LOS ANGELES, March 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Dust Bowl (J&R Adventures), the new album from multi-talented blues-rock guitar hero, singer-songwriter and Billboard's #1 Blues Artist Joe Bonamassa comes out today, Mar. 22. Bonamassa's twelfth full-length solo album, produced by Kevin "Caveman" Shirley, has quickly received an abundance of glowing critical acclaim. Premier Guitar called it "A blues-rock achievement... his best record to date," and gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars. The Dallas Morning News described it as "thematic and expansive... a blues-rocking tour-de-force from an artist who knows no other way of making music." Dust Bowl was recorded in sessions at Black Rock Studios in Santorini, Greece; Ben's Studio in Nashville, TN; The Cave in Malibu, CA and The Village in Los Angeles, CA.
It combines the gritty, blues-based tones of Bonamassa's first albums with the fluid, genre-defying sounds he's mastered in the years since and adds a dash of country from Joe's collaborations with the best of Nashville including legends Vince Gill and John Hiatt. Premier Guitar's Oscar Jordan describes the album as a "widescreen John Ford-style panorama" with "ominous cinematic imagery of trains, cotton fields, heartache, alienation, evil women, and death."
The album opener "Slow Train" "explodes into a fusion of gritty blues and hard rock; Joe's blistering guitar and falsetto create both a haunting and electrifying start to an exquisite album," says American Blues Scene. Other tunes such as "No Love On The Street," "Prisoner," and "The Meaning of the Blues" "play like epics," says The Dallas Morning News.
Standout originals include the "stomping blues" tune "Black Lung Heartache," the "moving" "The Last Matador of Bayonne," and "The Whale That Swallowed Jonah."
Bonamassa duets with Hiatt and trades licks with Gill on the John Hiatt/John Porter-penned "Tennessee Plates" which The Sun calls a "country romp." Other album collaborators include Bonamassa's Black Country Communion bandmate Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple) who lends his legendary voice to the Paul Rodgers song "Heartbreaker." Last month Bonamassa kicked off the first leg of his North American tour. He heads next to Europe, Asia and Australia, makes a quick stop back in the U.S. for a summer tour with his hard-rock band Black Country Communion, and then heads back out for more dates in Europe. David Crosby and Graham Nash Launch New Label Blue Castle Records
With First-Ever Digital and Vinyl Releases of Their Renowned 1971 Live Set 'Another Stoney Evening' on March 22
DUO KICK OFF COAST-TO-COAST CROSBY/NASH TOUR ON MARCH 25
Singer-songwriters David Crosby and Graham Nash have been harmonizing ever since Crosby, Stills & Nash formed in 1968. In addition to making music with CSN and CSN&Y, an ongoing element of their collaboration is recording and performing as a duo. That two-man configuration is celebrated this spring with both a nationwide tour kicking off March 25, and the launch of Crosby and Nash's new independent label - Blue Castle Records, distributed by ADA and ADA Global - with digital and vinyl versions of Another Stoney Evening as inaugural releases on March 22.
Another Stoney Evening was recorded on October 10, 1971 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles during one of Crosby and Nash's first in-concert performances as "two together." Previously released only on CD (in 1998), Another Stoney Evening captures an intimate performance spotlighting the duo's stellar harmonies, acoustic guitar and piano accompaniment, and between-song banter. Song highlights include "Deja Vu," "Wooden Ships," "Southbound Train," "Immigration Man," "Guinevere," and "Teach Your Children." Distribution for Blue Castle is through Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA) in the U.S. and Canada, and Alternative Distribution Alliance Global worldwide.

Monster Music proprietor Galen Hudson remembers his first experience with vinyl. "Steve Miller's Fly Like an Eagle came out when I was nine years old," he says. "I had my mom buy me the record, and there were a lot of other good songs on it, and after that I would just go to the record store and learn.
"And soon I became really into Traffic and Steve Winwood and I was hooked," he says, looking up at an image of Winwood, hanging on the wall of his poster-plastered office.
Ever since those experiences, Hudson has been a self-proclaimed record nerd. Now he has organized the local vinyl jamboree of the year, this Saturday's Charleston Record Expo, which will bring together collectors, sellers, and buyers to meet, browse, and share the vinyl experience.

Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Rolling Stones Announce Record Store Day Releases
– Nirvana – Hormoaning EP: Only available during the bands 1992 Australian tour, the EP features two originals (“Aneurysm” and “Even In His Youth”) plus covers recorded during a 1990 BBC Peel Session. The covers include Devo’s “Turnaround,” The Wipers’ “D-7,” and The Vaselines’ “Son of A Gun” and “Molly’s Lips.” This rare six-track collection is limited to 6,000 copies.
– Sonic Youth – Whores Moaning EP: Yes, it’s a play on the title of the Nirvana EP. Yes, it was released during Sonic Youth’s own Australian tour in 1993. Yes, the cover artwork is a photocopy of Kurt Cobain’s doll and the back artwork is a Cobain original drawing. Yes, the tracks include a radio edit of “Sugar Kane,” instrumentals of tracks “The End of The End of The Ugly” and “Tamra,” and covers of the New York Dolls’ “Personality Crisis” and Alice Cooper’s “Is It My Body.” Yes, it’s pretty sweet.
– The Rolling Stones – “Brown Sugar”/“Bitch”/“Let It Rock”: To celebrate the release of their The Complete Singles (1971-2006) box-set three days after RSD, the Stones will release 5,000, individually numbered U.S. copies this 7” vinyl which replicates the original single. The first two tracks hail from Sticky Fingers, while “Let It Rock” is an ultra-rare cover of the great Chuck Berry.
– Derek and The Dominos – “Got To Get Better In A Little While”/“Layla”: Eric Clapton only got one record out with Derek and The Dominos: 1970’s Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, but it’s mark on music is ever evident. “Layla” comes from that classic record, while “Got To Get Better In A Little While” comes from a newly discovered recording session for a never-materialized followup album. The vocals were recently finished by Derek and The Dominos member Bobby Whitlock, and this 7” vinyl is limited to 2,500 in the U.S.

Death Cab for Cutie Unveil Tour Dates

Seattle indie vets Death Cab for Cutie are dropping their seventh studio album, Codes and Keys, on May 31, so fans will have tons of opportunities to catch 'em live, right? Wrong. And that's what makes their limited 13-date tour, unveiled exclusively on SPIN.com, that much more special.
"I would love to find myself making a record a year from now rather than moving into our seventh straight month of touring," explains singer-guitarist Ben Gibbard. "I'd like to capitalize on feeling inspired to write rather than hobbling up onstage and jumping around for two hours..."
The short outing, dubbed the Underplay Tour, kicks off May 18 in Toronto and hits Chicago, New York City, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles before closing in San Francisco on June 9.

In 1986, Mark Dinning, who scored a US number one hit in 1960 with "Teen Angel", died following a heart attack at the age of 52. The song had been written by his sister, Jeannie. Although he never had another hit, Mark continued performing throughout the 1960s, but felt his lack of success was because, "groups were in and singles were out", once the British Invasion started. He died just after returning home from a club appearance in Jefferson City, Missouri.
In 1991, Dave Guard, a founding member of The Kingston Trio, died of cancer at the age of 56. The group had 17 chart singles and nine Gold albums between 1958 and 1963. Guard left the group in 1961 to form the Whiskey Hill Singers.
In 2004, Ozzy Osbourne topped a Yahoo poll as the UK's favorite ambassador to welcome aliens to Earth. nice....

King of Limbs by Radiohead to Be Released On Vinyl
Radiohead, formed in 1985, has seen worldwide success since their debut studio album, "Pablo Honey," released in 1993 and their single "Creep" exploded across the airwaves. In 2005, they were even ranked at number 73 on the list of "The Greatest Artists of All Time" in Rolling Stone Magazine.
The online release of "The King of Limbs" on February 19 was given four stars by Rolling Stone and an eight out of ten by Spin Magazine. SoundStage Direct will be selling the 12-inch vinyl album when it becomes available on March 28th, and is currently reserving pre-orders. The CD will also hit stores the same day.
Radiohead will also be releasing a "newspaper" edition on May 9th. This edition will include both the CDs and two clear 10" vinyl records in a purpose-built record sleeve. It will include large sheets of artwork, 625 tiny pieces of artwork, and a full-color piece of oxo-degradable plastic to hold it all together. The "newspaper" edition will also be released with a digital download of the album.
The new album, "The King of Limbs", is the first album since the band independently released "In Rainbows" in 2007. It was first released digitally and fans were able to set their own price for the download. When it was later released in physical form, it was praised by critics and topped the charts at Billboard and held a position there for 28 weeks.
The artwork on the album was designed by Stanley Donwood, and pays homage to Northern European fairy tales and their theme of symbiotic relationships with forests and woods. "It's very much about natural forms. I'd heard something about the northern European imagination, in the sense of all our fairy stories and mythical creatures, they all come from the woods," said Donwood. "Me and Thom (Yorke) were working on these ideas of strange, multi-limbed creatures that are neither malevolent or benevolent, they're simply there, part of the living spirit of the forest. That's come through into all of the work."
The name "The King of Limbs" is in reference to a 1,000 year-old oak tree in Wiltshire's Savernake Forest, three miles from Tottenham House where segments of 'In Rainbows" were recorded. Though the tree is not seen anywhere in regards to the album, it was an inspiration, and the phrase also appears in the 23rd chapter of the Qu'ran.
On February 18th, Radiohead released the track "Lotus Flower" and a music video for the song on their blog, and fans quickly began buzzing about the new eight track album. Los Angeles Times music blogger, Ann Powers said that it "can be heard from several different angles", and "Fans and critics have already been registering wildly divergent reactions: Some think it's one of the band's best efforts; others find it too low-key or similar to previous work; a few consider it awfully gloomy, and a few others wish it were less abstract." Nevertheless, Radiohead is a band that has always drawn in their fans and at SoundStage Direct, they expect no different.

The dB’s are releasing a limited edition 45rpm single of “Picture Sleeve” b/w “Write Back” on Record Store Day. The former is a co-written by Chris Stamey and Peter Holsapple, and the flip is Will Rigby’s first song with The dB’s. They’re from the forthcoming album—their first with the original four guys in thirty years.
The db’s will be performing on Record Store Day at Criminal Records in Atlanta, with Fan Modine.

ARTIZAN: Debut Album Artwork Unveiled
U.S. melodic metal act ARTIZAN has set April 29 as the release date for its full-length debut, "Curse Of The Artizan", via the German label Pure Steel Records. THE world’s oldest record shop teamed up with a local music lover to hold a special silent event yesterday.
Spillers Records and Steve Shepherd teamed up to hold the first Real Record event in the city centre.
The event invited vinyl fans to the O’Neills pub, on Trinity Street, to listen to Captain Beefheart’s 1970 album Lick My Decals Off, Baby! and Frank Zappa’s 1969 album Hot Rats.
Mobile phones were switched off and conversation not allowed during the music.

In 1952, the Cleveland Arena was the site of what will become recognized as the world's first major Rock 'n' Roll concert. With over 10,000 people inside and another 20,000 waiting outside, Alan Freed was set to broadcast the event 'live' over WJW radio. Paul Williams and His Hucklebuckers were playing their first song when city officials decided to shut the proceedings down, citing fire code violations. Doors and windows were smashed, a few fights broke out, but no one asked for their $1.75 admission back.
In 1964, the Beatles replaced one Billboard chart topper with another when "She Loves You" took over from "I Want To Hold Your Hand".

A cleaner at a Johannesburg record company when he wrote it, Linda received virtually nothing for his work and died in 1962 with just $25 in his bank account. It is estimated that the song, recorded by Pete Seeger, The Karl Denver Trio (as “Wimoweh”), The Kingston Trio, The Tokens and R.E.M., had earned $15 million from its use in Disney’s The Lion King alone.

Think Fast! To Release Sick Of It All Vinyl
New York hardcore veterans Sick Of It All have announced that they will release their latest album 'Based On A True Story' on vinyl via Think Fast! Records. The band's ninth album was released last year as the follow-up to 2006's 'Death To Tyrants.' 'Based On A True Story' was recorded and produced by Tue Madsen, who has also worked with Suicide Silence, Aborted, The Haunted and August Burns Red.
The LP edition of the album will be released under exclusive licence of Century Media Records on June 14.

Hallowed Butchery Reveals Cover Art For Split With The Austrasian Goat
Hallowed Butchery have posted the cover artwork for their upcoming split with The Austrasian Goat. Hallowed Butchery commented on the split and their upcoming full-length album:
"A Choir of Dead Children Sing Their Hymn for a Sleeping God: This is the tentative title for the forthcoming full-length album. The concept has changed. The entire album will deal with child abuse, neglect, and murder. All proceeds will be donated to a charity for abused children. More details and a confirmed charity organization will available soon. A release date can be expected late 2011/early 2012.
"The split 10" with the Austrasian Goat should be available soon. There were some delays with mastering, and the girl who was supposed to do the artwork has disappeared. I will be taking over artwork duties. Screenprinted, metallic paper is in the works!!!

About this projecttime-lag records is an independent, one-man record label based in rural montville, maine. the label was started in 2000, with a focus on vinyl releases that combine the highest possible quality production with an emphasis on the aesthetic of the object itself, and a deep love of interesting, unusual, and undiscovered music, both new & old. we aim to do more than just release records; to create a full, tangible & tactile experience in art & sound. over the last 10 years we've released 50 vinyl artifacts, numerous cds, cdrs and lathe-cuts, presented five large music festivals, and organized nearly 200 live shows. we initially worked solely with contemporary artists, but over the years we've begun to focus increasingly on reissuing little known treasures from the past. it's a great thrill to present these wonderful & unique albums to a wider audience. in many cases it is these artists first real exposure to an audience at all, after 30 or 40 years of total obscurity.

Record Label Hero Bob Marcucci Dies

Legendary record company owner and talent manager Robert Marcucci died of respiratory complications and severe infections on March 9 at an Ontario, California, hospital, according to The New York Times. He was 81. Credited with molding the careers of teen idols Fabian and Frankie Avalon, Marcucci’s life inspired the 1980 movie The Idolmaker.

A twelve hour session will produce his next single, "Stuck On You", which will top the Billboard chart a month later. Scotty Moore and Bill Black, who had quit Presley's touring band in 1957, are in the studio with him for the last time.
Ricky Nelson recorded "Hello Mary Lou" in 1961, which would climb to number 9 in the US by early May.
The top tune in the US in 1961 was Elvis Presley's "Surrender", which used updated lyrics put to a melody that was written in 1911 as "Come Back To Sorrento". The song would also reach #1 in the UK.
Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Richie Furay and Jim Mesina were arrested at Stephen Stills' house in Los Angeles in 1968 for "being at a place where it is suspected marijuana is being used." It's a misdemeanor for which Clapton will be found innocent while the others paid small fines. Duh, it was the 60's!
In 1969, John Lennon and Yoko Ono were married at the British Consulate Office in Gibraltar. They spent their honeymoon in Amsterdam, campaigning for peace via a week-long “bed-in”. Lennon detailed this period in The Beatles’ single, “The Ballad of John and Yoko,” which was recorded by just Lennon and Paul McCartney on April 14, 1969.
In 1972, Ringo Starr recorded the inane cut "Back Off, Boogaloo", which will become the second of his seven US Top 10 singles. The session was produced by George Harrison.
In 1977, T-Rex played their final gig when they appeared at The Locarno in Portsmouth, England.
Joan Jett And The Blackhearts started a seven week run at #1 on the US singles chart in 1982 with "I Love Rock 'n' Roll".
In 1989, Dick Clark announces his retirement from American Bandstand. On April 8th, comedian David Hirsch would take over, but the show was never the same and came to an end on October 7th. It continued to tape live at the Harrah's Club and Casino in Reno, Nevada, and aired locally until the mid-1990s
Sadly, in 1991, Eric Clapton's four year old son, Conor, fell to his death from the 53rd story of a New York City apartment window. The boy was in the custody of his mother, Italian actress, Lori Del Santo and the pair were visiting a friend's apartment. The housekeeper had just cleaned a room and opened the window to air it out. Eric was staying in a nearby hotel after taking his son to the circus the previous evening. The tragedy inspired his song "Tears in Heaven".

Think Fast! To Release Sick Of It All Vinyl
New York hardcore veterans Sick Of It All have announced that they will release their latest album 'Based On A True Story' on vinyl via Think Fast! Records. The band's ninth album was released last year as the follow-up to 2006's 'Death To Tyrants.' 'Based On A True Story' was recorded and produced by Tue Madsen, who has also worked with Suicide Silence, Aborted, The Haunted and August Burns Red.
The LP edition of the album will be released under exclusive licence of Century Media Records on June 14.

Hallowed Butchery Reveals Cover Art For Split With The Austrasian Goat
Hallowed Butchery have posted the cover artwork for their upcoming split with The Austrasian Goat. Hallowed Butchery commented on the split and their upcoming full-length album:
"A Choir of Dead Children Sing Their Hymn for a Sleeping God: This is the tentative title for the forthcoming full-length album. The concept has changed. The entire album will deal with child abuse, neglect, and murder. All proceeds will be donated to a charity for abused children. More details and a confirmed charity organization will available soon. A release date can be expected late 2011/early 2012.
"The split 10" with the Austrasian Goat should be available soon. There were some delays with mastering, and the girl who was supposed to do the artwork has disappeared. I will be taking over artwork duties. Screenprinted, metallic paper is in the works!!!
"Also in the works are a series of limited live performances. With a backing band, I will perform 'Funeral Rites for the Living' in its entirety. More details coming soon."

Mobile Fidelity Silver Series Off to Auspicious Beginning

The music made by the Australian group Dead Can Dance during their seventeen year existence resembled soundtracks to imaginary movies. The core duo of Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard, who were also an item at the time, moved to the U.K. a year after the group's founding in 1981. They issued their first album on 4AD in 1984.
From the beginning the group trafficked in ambient soundscapes and ethno-techno drumming leavened with the ubiquitous synthesizers then driving the era's pop music scene. The debut (4AD CAD 404) sounds something like The Thompson Twins meets Joy Division, meets Hieronymous Bosch meets My Bloody Valentine meets "world music" probably before the term was coined—but with far more depth of soulful expression. Both Perry and Gerrard's vocal chops expanded exponentially over time compared to how they sounded on the debut. Gerrard sounds a bit like Edith Piaf there. Not on this record!
Over the years the group's musical palette expanded while the ethnic sounds in which they traded gained greater currency in pop music. At the same time, purist practitioners began incorporating more pop.
By the time this complex gem, featuring just the duo of Perry and Gerrard, was first issued in 1993, a large audience was waiting to accept and embrace it and it hit the Billboard Top 200 Chart and went on to sell an amazing half-a million or so copies—and for good reason!
The music is a complex melange of straight forward goth-rock, with plenty of shimmering, chimey guitars, mixed with a jumble of ethnic musical accents ranging from American Indian to Indian Indian to Arabic plus sound effects, heavy and varied percussion occasionally anchored with shuddering bass.
The vibe is heavy. The religious overtones are earthy and dank. Death and mystery hover in the air. There's a dense adaptation of Bertold Brecht's "How Fortunate the Man With None" from "Mother Courage," and one set to Robert Dwyer Joyce's Irish rebellion poem "The Wind That Shakes the Barley," plus originals that cover a wide variety of mysteries and betrayals. There's chanting.
Mr. Perry is not only a talented singer, musician, arranger and composer. He's also a brilliant engineer and producer. This double LP set was recorded in Quivvy Church, Ireland and Perry captures both the instrumental timbres and textures and the spaciousness of the venue with alarming immediacy and dynamic involvement.
If you don't jump out of your seat on occasion as this plays—I don't care how many times you've heard it—something is wrong with your stereo. I've been playing it for seventeen plus years on the original double UK pressed LP set but truthfully haven't listened for awhile as my system has dramatically improved and I had a few adrenaline surges a few times listening to this superb Mobile-Fidelity reissue.
The spaciousness is astonishing, the clarity and precision of the percussive attack intense, the bass, deep, taut and well-textured and the presentation of Perry's and Gerrard's vocals full bodied and three-dimensional. This is as good as recorded music can sound in my opinion and Mobile Fidelity's reissue on RTI standard weight audiophile quality vinyl presents it against the blackest backdrop. I've played my original to death (pun intended) and it still sounds great and quiet, but this reissue presents an even blacker backdrop. It might be better than the original, but given how many plays mine has had, I'm not sure. It's at least as good, that's for sure.
An auspicious start for Mobile Fidelity's new lower cost silver series of LPs. Even if you've never heard this group or this record, if you're going to step out and try something new, this would be the place to do it. Highly, highly recommended for both music and sound. Turn the lights out and you'll be transported to another place.

can't say I knew what a muse was when The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan came out in 1963. I was 13, so I did know about girlfriends -in theory, anyway -and it was plain that the woman pictured on Dylan's second album was his sweetheart.
On the album cover, she and Dylan are walking arm-in-arm down the middle of a slushy street in Greenwich Village. She is smiling, her head pressed against Dylan's shoulder.

Thom Yorke Releases Two New Singles
Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke premiered two new singles, "Ego" and "Mirror," on March 15. The debuts came on U.K. radio between sessions by Four Tet and producer Floating Points. The two songs are Yorke's first new releases since Radiohead made their new album 'The King Of Limbs' available to download last month. The tracks are available on vinyl only.
The new songs are set to be released on 12-inch vinyl through Four Tet's record label, Text Records. The 12" double A-side single will contain only "Ego" and "Mirror."

The Record Collector (Roselle Chen)Rows of records with album covers yellowed with age are neatly stacked on pine hand-carved shelving. Yards of 33rpm long-playing records line the 3,400-square-foot store from floor to ceiling. Inky black vinyl devoid of scratches, dust and orange price stickers (that forever leave their sticky residue) stretch from the front of the store well into back corners, hidden from customers.
In rooms layered upon rooms, there are old Victorian gramophones, reel to reels, 45’s, 78’s, cylinders and speakers from the 1950s. Sanders (Sandy) Chase gives tours of his store to people who pass a sort of veneration test. If they love music the way that he does, they get to see what’s more than just a rare and vintage vinyl store holding half a million records. Not only does Chase run a unique store, but he also believes in playing the records on analog equipment only.
“The Record Collector,” the words displayed in white letters on a green awning, sits on the corner of Melrose Ave. near Fairfax. The store was established in 1974 with Sandy’s personal collection of 10,000 LP’s of mostly classical music. He used his earnings from his success as a violinist to open what is now LA’s oldest record store.

Bob Dylan released his self-titled debut album in 1962.
In 1965, Tailor And Cutter magazine ran an article asking The Rolling Stones to start wearing ties. The current fashion did not include wearing ties with shirts and many tie-makers were facing financial disaster. Mick Jagger said of the appeal, “The trouble with a tie is that it could dangle in the soup. It is also something extra to which a fan can hang when you are trying to get in and out of a theatre.”
In 1974, Jefferson Airplane changed their name to Jefferson Starship. The new line-up includes Paul Kantner, Grace Slick, drummer Johnny Barbata, David Freiberg, Peter Kaukonen, Cragi Chaquico and Papa John Creach.
The third album from KISS, 'Dressed to Kill,' was released in 1975.
In 1976, former Free guitarist, 26 year old Paul Kossoff died of heart failure while on a flight across the US. He had been troubled with heart disease most of his life. Free is most often remembered for their hit, "All Right Now". Lead singer Paul Rodgers went on to form Bad Company with Free drummer Simon Kirke, Boz Burrell (from King Crimson) and Mick Ralphs (of Mott the Hoople).
In 1982 - Randy Rhoads died at the age of 25 in a plane crash. The plane was buzzing Ozzy Osbourne's tour bus when it crashed. The pilot and another female passenger were also killed.
In 1996, the second volume of The Beatles Anthology was released. The album featured “Real Love,” the second track to be released where the surviving members overdubbed onto an old piano demo recording by John Lennon. The song, first recorded by Lennon in 1977 on a domestic tape recorder at home, originated as part of an unfinished stage play that he and Yoko One were working on at the time entitled “The Ballad Of John And Yoko.”

can't say I knew what a muse was when The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan came out in 1963. I was 13, so I did know about girlfriends -in theory, anyway -and it was plain that the woman pictured on Dylan's second album was his sweetheart.
On the album cover, she and Dylan are walking arm-in-arm down the middle of a slushy street in Greenwich Village. She is smiling, her head pressed against Dylan's shoulder.

Thom Yorke Releases Two New Singles
Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke premiered two new singles, "Ego" and "Mirror," on March 15. The debuts came on U.K. radio between sessions by Four Tet and producer Floating Points. The two songs are Yorke's first new releases since Radiohead made their new album 'The King Of Limbs' available to download last month. The tracks are available on vinyl only.
The new songs are set to be released on 12-inch vinyl through Four Tet's record label, Text Records. The 12" double A-side single will contain only "Ego" and "Mirror."

Yards of 33rpm long-playing records line the 3,400-square-foot store from floor to ceiling. Inky black vinyl devoid of scratches, dust and orange price stickers (that forever leave their sticky residue) stretch from the front of the store well into back corners, hidden from customers.
In rooms layered upon rooms, there are old Victorian gramophones, reel to reels, 45’s, 78’s, cylinders and speakers from the 1950s. Sanders (Sandy) Chase gives tours of his store to people who pass a sort of veneration test. If they love music the way that he does, they get to see what’s more than just a rare and vintage vinyl store holding half a million records. Not only does Chase run a unique store, but he also believes in playing the records on analog equipment only.
“The Record Collector,” the words displayed in white letters on a green awning, sits on the corner of Melrose Ave. near Fairfax. The store was established in 1974 with Sandy’s personal collection of 10,000 LP’s of mostly classical music. He used his earnings from his success as a violinist to open what is now LA’s oldest record store.

In 1982 - Randy Rhoads died at the age of 25 in a plane crash. The plane was buzzing Ozzy Osbourne's tour bus when it crashed. The pilot and another female passenger were also killed.
In 1996, the second volume of The Beatles Anthology was released. The album featured “Real Love,” the second track to be released where the surviving members overdubbed onto an old piano demo recording by John Lennon. The song, first recorded by Lennon in 1977 on a domestic tape recorder at home, originated as part of an unfinished stage play that he and Yoko One were working on at the time entitled “The Ballad Of John And Yoko.”

Captured Tracks Announces Releases For Record Store Day 2011
Captured Tracks have announced that they’re releasing two classic, hard to find singles by highly influential Scottish post-punk band, The Wake.
These two releases book-end the 80′s for the band, as their privately released On Our Honeymoon 7″ on Scan in 1982 was their first (and only) pre-Factory record, while Crush the Flowersis their final release in the 80′s (1989) and their first post-Factory record for the illustrious Sarah label.
In conjunction with those two releases, Captured Tracks is also offering a tribute white vinyl 7″ featuring faithful and well-crafted Wake-approved covers of two classic songs by two C/T artists, Beach Fossils and Wild Nothing.
Only 1,000 of each 7″ will be pressed. Of those 1,000, there will be an offering of 300 bundles which will have all three 7″s packaged together. The bundle of all three 7″ records will come with reproduced buttons of The Wake.

The Vinyl Factory has unveiled its collectible art and vinyl limited edition of the Pet Shop Boys’ new ballet score, The Most Incredible Thing, which includes exclusive PSB music.
Inspired by a Hans Christian Anderson short story, The Most Incredible Thing is Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe’s first ever full-length ballet score, produced in collaboration with Sadler’s Wells and choreographer Javier de Frutos.
The release of the music by The Vinyl Factory is a jaw-droppingly handsome art edition limited to 500 copies for the world, each hand-numbered and signed by the Pet Shop Boys. The design is by Farrow, who worked with The Vinyl Factory, Tennant and Lowe on the collectors’ edition of the the last PSBs album, Yes, copies of which have sold for over £3,000 at auction.
The Vinyl Factory’s deluxe edition of The Most Incredible Thing is a silk cloth-bound, hard board slipcase containing a hardback book with seven record sleeves. Six of these house 180gram vinyl records pressed on the EMI 1400, featuring the Pet Shop Boys’ music for the ballet plus original demo versions of each of the compositions, exclusive to this release.
The seventh sleeve contains an over-sized foldout sheet music print, signed by Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe. The ballet’s synopsis is printed onto the record sleeves so that each has an accompanying narrative that reads like a storybook.

He would go on to become the world's first recording star. Two years later, he began recording in America for the Victor Talking Machine Company (later RCA Victor). Over a 16-year span, he would earn millions of dollars in royalties from the retail sales of his 260 recordings.
In 1965, three of The Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger, Brian Jones and Bill Wyman, were caught urinating against a garage wall in Romford, Essex, after playing the final shows on a U.K. tour. On July 22, they were each fined £5 for insulting behavior.

In 1994, four guns and 25 boxes of ammo were confiscated from Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) after his wife, Courtney Love, called police fearing he was going to commit suicide. He did commit suicide about 3 weeks later.
In 2001, singer, guitarist, and songwriter John Phillips, formerly of The Mamas & the Papas, died at the age of 65 of heart failure.

Jack White Still Knows How to Grab Attention

AUSTIN, Tex. — South by Southwest is about music, lots and lots of it: 2,000-plus bands over six days. But partly as a result of there being so much music, the festival is also about attention-getting stunts: bands playing up to a dozen gigs in unusual spaces, announcing last-minute performances on Twitter, teasing crowds with “TBA’s” on schedules.
This year Jack White, formerly of the White Stripes, has one of the better stunts, a yellow and black truck representing his Nashville-based record label and studio, Third Man.

For the love of vinyl: A testament to the Fox Valley music scene

Today’s younger music fans may be more likely to put a vinyl record on their bedroom wall than on a record player, but that doesn’t mean this not-so-forgotten medium has fallen completely out of favor.
On April 16, a day dedicated throughout the country as Record Store Day, Kiss the Sky in Geneva will actually release a new original album featuring a lineup of Fox Valley musicians – on vinyl. As cool as it would look on some teenager’s wall, the record, “Made in Aurora,” serves to remind local music fans that records and the stores that sell them still deliver musical satisfaction every day to those who’ve made a point to preserve the medium.

Acid Jazz Great Melvin Sparks Dies

Melvin Sparks, the legendary acid jazz guitarist, has died of heart failure at his home in Mt. Vernon, New York. He was 64.
Sparks first surfaced in the ’60s and ’70s as a soul-jazz guitarist (famously backing Lou Donaldson on the funk-jazz classics “Everything I Do Gonna Be Funky,” “Hot Dog,” “Donkey Walk” and “The Caterpillar.”) and later played a key part on the acid jazz movement of the ’90s.
