Based on the best-selling novel by Stephen King, Carrie is directed by Kimberly Peirce with a screenplay by Lawrence D. Cohen and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, with top actresses Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore signing for the lead roles.

The haunting classical score by Marco Beltrami vividly accompanies the eerie and terrifying scenes of the film. The dynamic soundtrack is wonderfully suited for a vinyl issue, making this without a doubt an audiophile collectible. In cinema's now!

Trans-Siberian Orchestra The Christmas Attic

“THE HOLIDAY TRADITION FOR A NEW GENERATION!”

Originally released in 1998, "The Christmas Attic" is the second album by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and the second installment of their Christmas Trilogy. The story begins On Christmas Eve,  when a young girl's curiosity leads her to a night of mischief and magic when she decides to sneak up into the attic of her parents' home while she should be asleep.  This album contains a mix of vocal and instrumental songs. The track “Christmas Canon,” one of the TSO's most well-known songs, is a variation of Pachelbel's famous Canon in D Major, with lyrics and new music added as well as Boughs of Holly and a soulful rendition of Music Box Blues.

“The Christmas Attic” is being made available on vinyl for the first time in a 2-LP set. The brilliantly remastered records are packaged in a seasonal gatefold jacket that includes a colorful 12-page booklet filled with the tale of The Christmas Attic as well as the lyrics to all the songs.

When founder and producer Paul O'Neill first conceived Trans-Siberian Orchestra, his goal was as straightforward as it was ambitious: “...create a progressive rock band that would push the boundaries further than any group before, following in the footsteps of Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Pink Floyd, the Who...but take it way, way further.”

Pre-Order Deerhoof's 'La Isla Bonita' Via Polyvinyl

Blame it on the Ramones. After Deerhoof finished recording demos for La Isla Bonita this past February, they began rehearsing for an upcoming tour. Halfway through a run-through of a long-time Deerhoof live favorite, their cover of the Ramones classic "Pinhead," someone offhandedly asked, "Why don't we ever write a song like this?" So Greg quickly dashed off a song on a scrap of paper, showed it to the band, and they recorded the breakneck stomper "Exit Only" in one take.

La Isla Bonita was recorded in guitarist Ed Rodriguez's basement. Situated next to a parking garage, it was perfect for making noise till the wee hours. They recorded live, DIY style, "a weeklong sleepover arguing over whether to try and sound like Joan Jett or Janet Jackson, cracking each other up, one guitarist whose name starts with J always putting too much red chile into the rations," says Greg. But more than that La Isla Bonita is about the eclectic worldwide community that has supported them.

You'll hear them pay musical tributes to their improbable list of heroes-turned-fans: David Bowie, Ric Ocasek, The Roots, Lou Reed, David Byrne, Sonic Youth, The Flaming Lips, Radiohead, Beck. Of course their intent is never reverence, but provocation. They are always on the hunt for that perfect union of the hilarious and the terrifying that one hears in other bands of their generation like Bikini Kill and Lightning Bolt. 2014 has been a killer year for young, aggressive female-fronted bands (St. Vincent, Tune-Yards, Perfect Pussy, Karen O, Speedy Ortiz) and La Isla Bonita is also partly a discourse with them.

To produce the vocals they tapped former journalist-turned-label owner and producer Nick Sylvester, and that's where the album's pop side comes out: Satomi's singing is front and center, and if it sounds

like she's commanding the band, it's because she was. "Satomi determined the direction the music would go," says Greg. As the inevitable temptation to sweeten the mix and edit down the takes crept in, Satomi kept everything focused on repeating grooves and simple arrangements. This is the glorious sound of four musicians owning their own hard-won and richly deserved legacy.

NERVES - One Way Ticket

Formed in 1975 by guitarist JACK LEE, bassist PETER CASE, and drummer PAUL COLLINS, the Nerves are one of the most influential garage/punk pop outfits to come out of the mid-70's LA scene, and certainly one of the least documented... until now.

Mostly remembered for their classic "Hanging On The Telephone," a Jack Lee composition which has been covered over the years by a myriad of artists from BLONDIE to L7 to CAT POWER, the Nerves were above all a high energy rock'n'roll band with all three members composing and singing. Playing fast, ear-catching garage pop songs, sometimes wearing matching suits, the trio had more than a bit of the stripped down street energy of the Los Angeles's early punk movement. They shared the stage with the Ramones and Mink Deville during their infamous US "Magical Blistering Tour," played the Punk Palace and the legendary Masque in Hollywood, and headlined shows with the Avengers, the Zeros, The Dils, The Screamers and Shock, to name just a few.

After the band's break-up in 1978, Peter Case and Paul Collins formed The BREAKAWAYS, and later went on to front the legendary PLIMSOULS and The BEAT, respectively. Following the success of "Hanging On the Telephone," JACK LEE has mostly focused on his songwriting career, releasing an album in 1981. Both Peter and Paul are still recording and touring. PETER CASE's latest album "Let Us Now Praise Sleepy John" (Yeproc 2007) was nominated for a Grammy. This collection, authorized for the first time ever by the three band members, features their 1976 EP (now regarded as a power pop classic), as well as demos and previously unreleased live recordings, REMASTERED and complete with notes and photos.

Ennio Morricone's 'A Lizard in a Woman's Skin' Gets Deluxe Vinyl Reissue Via Death Waltz

It is a proud day for Death Waltz Recording Company as we prepare to release a score by one of the biggest composers in film music history. Ennio Morricone has produced masterpiece after masterpiece, but none so creatively unsettling as his score to the 1971 Lucio Fulci giallo A LIZARD IN A WOMAN’S SKIN (aka UNA LUCERTOLA CON LA PELLE DI DONNA). Like many of Fulci’s movies, LIZARD blurs the line between dreams and reality, with hedonistic nightmares featuring narcotic-fuelled orgies leading to real murder that may or may not have been committed during one of the dreams.

Morricone’s music is as unhinged as the film itself, mixing post-sixties funk and jazz with increasingly uncomfortable effects to provide a haunting and biting backdrop for the turn of the century thriller. As always, elements of the maestro’s music are beautiful, with ethereal vocals by regular collaborator Edda dell’Orso, and this works even better in stark contrast with the harsher sections, with eerie woodwinds, the requisite whistling, wind instruments that sound like coyote howls, and low rhythmic bass that hits your head and your stomach at a point where you start to wonder if someone else is if the house with you. Still, if you’re going to be graphically murdered, A LIZARD IN A WOMAN’S SKIN is the soundtrack to have it done to you by.

Can by Can

Can was founded in 1968 by Irmin Schmidt, Holger Czukay, Michael Karoli and Jaki Liebezeit who formed a group which would utilize and transcend all boundaries of ethnic, electronic, experimental, and modern classical music.

Can, the 11th studio album by Can was originally released in 1979. Lost during its initial release amongst the punk explosion, Can features the classic tracks “Sodom” and “Can Be”. Holger Czukay’s involvement took a back seat on this album. Can is also the last album before Can reunited with Malcolm Mooney on the reunion album, Rite Time in 1986.

The band’s powerful influence has never diminished, and their indelible mark is apparent in the bands who freely acknowledge their importance - from Portishead, James Murphy, New Order, Factory Floor, Public Image Ltd, Mogwai, Kanye West (who sampled ‘Sing Swan Song’) and Radiohead - as well as across other disciplines such as visual art and literature.

All Hands On The Bad One by Sleater-Kinney

Sleater-Kinney is an acclaimed, American rock band that formed in Olympia, Washington in 1994. The band's core lineup consists of Corin Tucker (vocals and guitar), Carrie Brownstein (guitar and vocals), and Janet Weiss (drums). Sleater-Kinney were known for their feminist, left-leaning politics, and were an integral part of the riot grrrl and indie rock scenes in the Pacific Northwest.

All Hands on the Bad One is the fifth studio album by Sleater-Kinney, originally released on May 2, 2000 by Kill Rock Stars. The album was produced by John Goodmanson and recorded from December 1999 to January 2000 at Jackpot! Studio in Portland, Oregon and John & Stu's Place in Seattle, Washington.

Upon release, All Hands on the Bad One reached number 177 on the US Billboard Top 200 chart and number 12 on the Heatseekers Albums chart. All Hands on the Bad One appeared on several end-of-year lists and received a nomination for Outstanding Music Album at the 12th Annual Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Awards. The Village Voice placed it at number 10 in its 2000 “Pazz & Jop” Critics' Poll.

The album has been freshly remastered by Greg Calbi for this release. This reissue coincides with Sub Pop’s release of remastered versions of Sleater-Kinney’s six other albums, as well as a limited-edition, deluxe vinyl box set featuring all seven albums.

AMERICAN SHARKS RELEASE SPECIAL EDITION "COLOR-YOUR-OWN" VINYL RE-PRESS 

American Sharks first pressing of their debut album sold out a few weeks ago. Yesterday, the band announced on their Facebook page that they are releasing a special edition “color-your-own” vinyl re-press limited to 500 copies. They stripped the original gatefold jacket of all color, leaving just the black and white outline, and packaged the record with custom markers so you can “color-your-own."

The vinyl itself is white with black splatter to match the jacket. The custom markers are named after the bands favorite weed flavors (strawberry cough, blue dream, grape ape, green crack, pineapple kush, sweet island skunk, & hashish). To make things even more fun they are holding a coloring contest and giving away $666 to the winner. All We Are Self-Titled LP Up For Pre-Order

Third Eye Blind is the eponymous debut for the American alternative rock band Third Eye Blind, originally released in 1997. It spawned several singles, including top 10 charting “Semi-Charmed Life”, “Jumper”, and “How’s It Going to Be”. While Third Eye Blind peaked at #25 on the Billboard 200, it spent 104 weeks on the charts. It is the group’s bestselling album, having been certified 6x Platinum.

The story: life changes in an instant for young Mia Hall after a car accident puts her in a coma. During an out-of-body experience, she must decide whether to wake up and live a life far different than she had imagined.

New York based Indie Rock producer Adam Lasus prefers recording on analog tape over digital. He produced six original songs and a cover of the song “Today” by Smashing Pumpkins, that were performed by the fictional band Willamette Stone in the movie led by Jamie Blackley’s character Adam Wilde. Other songs on the If I Stay soundtrack include tracks by Sonic Youth, Beck and Tom Odell.

of Montreal 'Cherry Peel' & 'The Gay Parade' Back On Vinyl Via Polyvinyl

After years of being out of print, two early of Montreal albums are now back on vinyl 

Hailing from the '90s-resurgent Athens, Georgia scene, unofficial homebase to the Elephant 6 collective, of Montreal is perhaps the least publicized band in the Elephant 6 stable but not because they make the least-worthy music.

To the contrary, Cherry Peel is one of the most unabashedly pretty releases from that group, and, in fact, stands apart from most everything in the pop scene due to its simple, unassuming innocence.

The vocals of songwriter Kevin Barnes are achingly heartfelt and puppyish, and his songs seem to spring directly out of childhood, or at least seem touched by a childlike yearning, so much so that you can't help feeling all fuzzy inside and perhaps desirous of hugging someone, maybe your mom, after hearing them.

And the songs are uniformly expert: "In Dreams I Dance With You" comes across like a cupid-struck Pinocchio's sweet longing; "Montreal" is a wasteland ballad worthy of Neil Young; and "Don't Ask Me To Explain" will make your heart palpatate and bubble up into your throat it is so unpretentiously euponic. The closest cousin to of Montreal is probably The Apples In Stereo, and like that band, the influence of The Beatles, particularly Paul McCartney, and the Beach Boys is pervasive, and other Sixties music such as Brill Building pop and Lovin' Spoonful ("Everything Dissappears When You Come Around") and a bit of psychedelia, as well as a pinch of new wave occasionally reaches the surface of the songs.

But of Montreal touches on so many other sources than those, such as circus music and, on "I Can't Stop Your Memory," even a bit of jazz, and the entire album has the sentiment and conviction of early twentieth-century, old timey and Tin Pan Alley tunes.

The gorgeous lushness of Cherry Peel conceals the bedroom-bred genesis of the entire undertaking. And though it would be easy to dismiss the whole album as so much cuteness, of Montreal never hint at irony. The band is not mocking pop, it loves the form and the chance to express that joy; and that joy is on full display on Cherry Peel like no band since the early Beatles.

The Gay Parade is indie-pop's very own Sgt. Pepper, a richly detailed, grandly ambitious concept record which forgoes the ponderous pretensions the phrase implies to instead exult in the simple joys of everyday life.

Kevin Barnes' songs radiate a childlike wonder and boundless enthusiasm, discovering beauty in the most unlikely of places; his lyrics suggest psychedelic nursery rhymes, populated by absurdist characters (each and every one depicted on the jacket art) sketched in Crayola across a series of majestic melodies and ornate arrangements which belie the record's surface naïveté.

For all of The Gay Parade's effervescence and whimsy, there's also a melancholy that pervades songs like "Jacques Lamure," "The Autobiographical Grandpa" and "My Friend Will Be Me," recalling the lovelorn hues of the previous of Montreal record, The Bedside Drama: A Petite Tragedy; far from deflating the euphoria, however, these moments simply acknowledge the necessity of sadness and loss to the human experience, and deem them worthy of celebration as well.

These are songs in the key of life, Zen-like expressions of simplicity and innocence resonating with remarkable complexity and wisdom.

It is not surprising that Bobby Hutcherson became a vibraphonist after listening to Milt Jackson. He adopted some of the improvisational fluidity of Jackson but connected with a modern sense of harmonics and band play. As a member of Jackie McLean’s band (his debut was on the critically acclaimed One Step Beyond), he began a long, productive association with Blue Note Records. Gigs with Eric Dolpy, Dexter Gordon and Hank Mobley enhanced his reputation, but his career as a bandleader propelled his success. His Blue Note tenure (1963-1977) was second only to Horace Silver. At the core of this catalogue was Hutcherson’s union with saxophonist Harold Land that resulted in seven albums. With drummer Joe Chambers and pianists like Chick Corea, Stanley Cowell and Joe Sample, Hutcherson’s unique brand of hard bop/post-bop and mainstream jazz flourished.

Like many jazz greats, Hutcherson continued to record for different labels (Landmark, Columbia). A brief excursion into fusion resulted in Little B’s Poem, his most recognized composition He remained in demand as a sideman and worked with Sonny Rollins, Donald Byrd, Woody Shaw, Herbie Hancock, John Lewis Pharoah Sanders, Kenny Barron, Sonny Stitt and Roy Haynes, to name just a few. In 2004 he was an original member of the SF Jazz Collective and established two performing quartets in that decade. Hutcherson returned to Blue Note in 2014, releasing Enjoy The View, featuring Joey DeFrancesco, David Sanborn and Billy Hart.

As part of their 75th anniversary, Blue Note Records had re-mastered their vintage albums in hi-def resolutions of 96k and 192k. Now they have decided to release low-cost, higher-quality pressing of the original vinyl recordings, including the original packaging. One of these re-mastered vinyl albums is Total Eclipse. This was the first Bobby Hutcherson Blue Note album project with Harold Land. With mostly original compositions, this is a definitive representation of Hutcherson’s acumen as an ensemble leader (He also was active in Gerald Wilson’s orchestra, and incorporated complex arrangements into his work). Opening Side 1 is a hard bop swing opus, “Herzog”. This piece explodes and the furious pace never abates. Chick Corea starts off with percolating runs that lead into Hutcherson’s initial solo. And it is breathtaking in its flexibility. He expands the overall tonality and depth of the vibes. Reggie Johnson and Joe Chambers are a solid rhythm section. Chambers is a driving force (not unlike Philly Joe Jones) and provides subtle tempo breaks. Land contributes to the intensity with a hard-driving saxophone translation. At the end, the quintet unites with vibes and saxophone sharing a unison lead. The title cut has an ethereal, moody resonance. Land’s sax is smoky and evocative. Hutcherson is fluid, with a late night ambiance. His ascending and descending vibraphone technique is compelling. Corea adds a delicate, expressive interlude. Hutcherson is comfortable with his band mates and encourages their creativity. “Matrix” (a Corea song) is a variation on twelve-bar blues that cooks with Land burning on saxophone. Hutcherson matches his fury with scintillating eloquence. Chambers’ crashing drums bring a powerful energy to the jam.

“Same Shame” celebrates the fearless exploration of modern jazz. Anchored by a pulsating, Latin-tinged aesthetic, Hutcherson revels in versatility, offering a variety of tonal shadings. There is a graceful transition to a Chick Corea solo that is fresh and graceful. The finale (“Pompeian”) is an intriguing waltz that showcases Land on flute. The inherent chemistry between Land and Hutcherson is palpable. The group engages in a swirling blend of sound that envelops this ballad. Artistry and emotional depth are merged in musical context.

This vinyl re-mastering is a definite improvement over the 1960s analog technology. It is not as dynamic as hi-res digital format, but still manages to capture the warmth and texture of jazz instrumentation. The vibraphone shading is subtle (especially on a track-ending fade). Tenor and flute sound organic, not harsh. Liner notes by Herb Wong provide a back story to the album. A picture of a smiling, cigarette-dangling Hutcherson is a glimpse of 1968 personal style. Total Eclipse is a good jazz album, and reasonably priced (under $20) as well!  —Robbie Gerson
