The Best Of The Animals On 180 Gram Vinyl

In recognition of the 50th anniversary of the British Invasion, ABKCO Records will release clear vinyl edition of The Best Of The Animals on August 12. This title is now added to ABKCO’s Clearly Classic series, which saw the release of six clear vinyl Rolling Stones titles over the last few years. It will be pressed on 180 gram vinyl with original art. Lacquers were cut by Carl Rowatti at Trutone Mastering from high resolution audio sources mastered at Gateway Mastering.

Fronted by charismatic lead singer Eric Burdon, The Animals exploded onto the world stage in 1964 with their transatlantic No. 1 hit “House of the Rising Sun.” Straddling the line between hard-edged blues and Brill Building pop, the group from Newcastle enjoyed a swath of top 20 singles under the guidance of producer Mickie Most, including “I’m Crying,” “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood,” and “We Gotta Get Out Of This Place.” Recorded entirely within a scant 20-month period ending in September of 1965, The Best of The Animals includes all the aforementioned hits as well as timeless gems such as “It’s My Life,” and “Animalized”, renditions of Chuck Berry’s “Around And Around” and Sam Cooke’s “Bring It On Home To Me.” All of The Best of The Animals tracks were also produced by Mickie Most.

“For me the release of The Best of The Animals on vinyl is a journey back to a working world that doesn’t exist anymore,” said Eric Burdon, who is ecstatic about the upcoming release. “This is the way that all of those songs were originally intended to be heard. I am happy to see more and more young people discover the joy of putting on a record – and the elders rediscovering the thrill of the needle setting down into those grooves.” Burdon then vividly described the organic nature of the recording process in the 60s. “The Animals were a live, living band, coming off of the road and completing an album in two days and then going back on the road again. The moment was captured on quarter inch tape and now it’s returned to you in its original form, 50 years later. Enjoy the trip down memory lane!”
  • All tracks produced by Mickie Most, 1964-1965
  • The Best of The Animals was originally released in 1987
  • Mastered by Adam Ayan, Gateway Mastering

Rolling Stones - Hot Rocks 1964-1971 (Vinyl)

It's the rare greatest-hits album that takes on a life of its own. Generally, best-of collections are superseded by updated retrospectives. Hot Rocks 1964-1971 is the exception to the rule: a classic comprised of classics. Originally released in December 1971, this two-LP set is the Rolling Stones' first anthology and one of the band's all-time best sellers. Upon release, it remained on the Billboard album chart for an amazing 243 consecutive weeks with the highest chart position reaching #4. Hot Rocks has been certified 12X platinum by the RIAA. The album carries most of the band's biggest hits; the 21 tracks featured represent seven years of dizzying growth. While the emphasis is on the hits, Hot Rocks also includes several iconic album tracks such as "Play With Fire," "Under My Thumb" and "Gimme Shelter."

This gives listeners a well-rounded impression of The Rolling Stones' music and their ever evolving sound during this critical period. You hear them change from a loud R&B-inspired rock ‘n’ roll band covering their mentor’s hits and making them their own, such as Erma Thomas’ "Time Is on My Side," to true musical innovators with breakthroughs like "(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction," "Get Off of My Cloud," "19th Nervous Breakdown" and, finally, into self-actualized, rebel-poets with "Jumpin' Jack Flash," and "Midnight Rambler." From "Time is on My Side" through "Let's Spend the Night Together," on to Sticky Fingers' "Brown Sugar" and "Wild Horses," Hot Rocks 1964-1971 never lets up! The album tracks were produced by Andrew Loog Oldham, Jimmy Miller, The Rolling Stones and Glyn Johns. Hot Rocks 1964-1971 garnered 11 Top Ten U.S. and U.K. hits and 7 No.1 hit singles.

The Posies Failure Available On Green Vinyl Via Omnivore Recordings

The Posies’ 1988 debut is back and bigger than ever!

Little did Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow know that when they dropped off their cassette to Scott McCaughey (R.E.M., The Minus 5), the clerk at their favorite record store (who happened to do A&R for the indie label PopLlama), that a power-pop dynasty would begin.

Originally released by the band on cassette, then issued on LP (with one track removed for the then-current time constraints), and later on CD, Failure set the independent music world on fire. Omnivore Recordings is proud to reissue this landmark album, complete with eight bonus tracks, including one available for the first time.

Housed in a digipak, Failure contains the original 12 songs, plus bonus material from the highly sought after and out of print 2000 box set At Least At Last, as well tracks from the Spanish only 15th anniversary edition—plus, one track recently located in The Posies’ extensive archives. The booklet contains press clippings and essays from 1988, as well as updated messages from McCaughey and the band.

This 2014 edition sees the original 12-track playlist restored and available on vinyl for the first time since its original issue (and cut by Kevin Gray). The LP (initial pressing on colored vinyl) also includes a download card for the entire CD program.

While Auer and Stringfellow have continued on—whether as members of the reunited Big Star, as The Posies and as solo artists—the journey began at Failure. Step back in time and hear the future.

Contains 8 bonus tracks, including 1 available for the first time anywhere.

upcoming releases from our friends at MusicOnVinyl

GRAND FUNK RAILROAD - CLOSER TO HOME

Produced by Terry Knight, Closer To Home is Grand Funk Railroad's third studio album, and was released in 1970. The album reached Gold record status the same year, making it the group's third Gold record in one year. The album's inside artwork shows a live photo of the band performing at Madison Square Garden in February 1970.

Closer To Home was the record that really broke them through to the commercially successful level of Metal masters such as Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Rather than rushing headlong into their typical hard, heavy, and overamplified approach, Grand Funk Railroad began expanding their production values.

Most evident is the inclusion of strings, the acoustic opening on the disc's lead off cut, "Sins a Good Man's Brother," as well as the comparatively mellow "Mean Mistreater."  But the boys had far from gone soft. The majority of Closer To Home is filled with the same straight-ahead rock & roll that had composed their previous efforts.  180 gram audiophile vinyl and gate fold sleeve

RUFUS THOMAS - WALKING THE DOG

One of the artists who defined Memphis Soul and put Stax Records on the map, Rufus Thomas is known for liking his R&B hard-edged, gritty and earthy. That approach served him impressively well on his debut album Walking The Dog.

In contrast to the sleeker, more elaborate production style favored by Motown, Rufus Thomas rejects Pop elements altogether and thrives on rawness on his hits "Walking The Dog" and "The Dog" as well as inspired versions of "Land Of 1000 Dances" (which became a major hit for Wilson Pickett), Lee Dorsey's "Ya Ya" and John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom".

The title track became his biggest hit. The song was covered by The Rolling Stones in 1964. Many other artists have covered the song, including Aerosmith, Roger Daltrey, Green Day, The Flamin' Groovies, The Sonics, The Trashmen and more.  180 gram audiophile vinyl and insert

THE TREBLE SPANKERS - HASHEEDA

Hasheeda  is the second album by Dutch group The Treble Spankers, released in 1996. Following the success of Pulp Fiction and an "easy tune" hype, The Treble Spankers got massive airplay with the single "Red Hot Navigator" on Dutch national radio.

These musical omnivores didn't  care a rap for trends and externals. They provided magnificent songs by diverse artists such as Kraftwerk, Herb Alpert and 2 Unlimited with new energy. Casually, they added a few classics to music history by means of their own brilliant compositions. Their music is rebellious, and as mysterious as the swamps of Sumatra, and expresses the mysticism of the American Indians.

Between 1993 and 1996, The Treble Spankers played over 500 shows in Europe. The band played a packed Roskilde tent at the Pinkpop festival in front of 10,000 jumping fans and the album Hasheeda ended up selling an impressive 20,000 copies in the Netherlands only. Former band members are now active in The Phantom Four and Los Tiki Boys. 18 years after its original release, the album is reissued on 180 gram audiophile vinyl with insert!
