Uriah Heep Offer Limited Edition Celebration Artwork
Uriah Heep are offering fans the opportunity to buy one of just 300 prints of the artwork for new album Celebration.
These have been created by the artist, Ioannis, and measure 18 inches x 24 inches. Unframed, each is numbered and signed by Ioannis and all of the band. In addition, there are also 60 prints available of the alternative cover for the album, which is now part of the CD artwork. These have been numbered and signed by the artist.
The first 25 people to order one of the album prints will also get one of the alternative cover prints, plus a pencil drawing done as preparation for the final artwork, again signed by Ioannis. The next 35 fans will get the two prints.

Uncle Tupelo's 'Anodyne' sees vinyl release in November
Finding Uncle Tupelo albums on vinyl is no easy task, and it's anyone's guess why Sony Legacy didn't include the LP format when it reissued the band's first three records in 2003.
Uncle Tupelo's last album, 1993's "Anodyne," was never released on vinyl in the first place, and Warner Bros. also skipped a wax pressing in 2003 when it reissued the album many fans regard as the band's best work.
They're rectifying that oversight.
In conjunction with Rhino, Warner Bros. releases "Anodyne" on 180-gram vinyl Nov. 24, according to ordering information on the label's press B2B. (Note to Warner marketing copywriters: the original drummer was Mike Heidorn, not "Heldorn." The other core members, of course, were Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy.)

Jawbox reunites for late-night TV appearance, album reissue
Jawbox will mark the reissue of their album "For Your Own Special Sweetheart" with a Dec. 8 appearance on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," according to a press release. The performance will be the DC post-punk icons' first of any kind in 12 years.
Originally released by Atlantic Records in 1994, "For Your Own Special Sweetheart" has been remastered and will be re-released Nov. 24 on CD and vinyl. The new version will include three additional tracks that appeared on a 1994 EP.
Jawbox, which played its first show opening for Fugazi in 1989, released two albums for the Dischord label before signing with Atlantic. "For Your Own Special Sweetheart" is widely considered to showcase the band at its peak.
There has been no word as to possible tour plans following the album reissue and the Jimmy Fallon appearance.

R.I.P. Blue Cheer's Dickie Peterson
Dickie Peterson, frontman for the hugely influential San Francisco power trio Blue Cheer, died at home in Germany this morning, as Blabbermouth reports and Blue Cheer's publicist confirms. No cause of death has been reported yet, though Blabbermouth believes he suffered from cancer. Peterson was 61.
On late-60s albums like Vincebus Eruptum and Outsideinside, Blue Cheer perfected a form of thudding, riff-heavy psychedelic rock rooted in a primordial blues lurch. The band landed on the top 40 with a scraggly cover of Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues", but their real impact wouldn't be felt for years. In the decades that followed, echoes of the band's stoned, simplistic roar would resonate in metal, punk, and grunge. Peterson's bored snarl and murky bass crunch, in particular, served as a stylistic bridge between mid-60s garage rock and early metal bands like Blue Cheer contemporaries Black Sabbath.
Blue Cheer broke up in the early 70s, but the band reformed to tour and record at various points over the years.

The deluxe editions-- featuring B-sides, demos and notes by Jarvis Cocker-- have been available in the UK since 2006.

Record albums have staying power
Vinyls are coming back in style
By Amanda Dovel
Walking down the stairs of “Albums on the Hill,” the store is a cluttered mess of fliers, CD’s, posters and of course an entire room full of LPs. The new Built to Spill album “Good Ol’ Boredom” was playing in the background of the store, unleashing a new part of the music world few are familiar with. This is the underground world of vinyl records.
Andy Schneidkraut has owned Albums on the Hill for 22 years. He sees a lot of young people buying and collecting vinyls and believes it’s about the sound quality and actually understanding the music.
“It’s about the experience, its more relational and intimate,” Schneidkraut said. “The music is not intended to be background noise, it’s about wanting to listen and having to actively get up and turn it over to listen to the other side.”
Recently, the top album sold at Albums is the limited edition 12” vinyl single from Thom Yorke of Radiohead. The record features “FeelingPulledApartbyHorses” and “The Hollow Earth.”
Classic rock albums such as The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, the Grateful Dead and many more from the 60s and 70s are still topping the charts in record sales. Records were born in a time where rock and roll ruled the music scene and the young adults that listened to it.
The cultural influence of these albums is obvious as the demand for classic records continues to increase. Many students expressed their love for vinyl records that have been passed down to them from their parents who collected many albums.
Taylor Iverson, a 20-year-old double majoring in film and journalism, said he found a vintage Beatles album in his parent’s collection and has collected over fifty records since. Iverson said he believes the best sound quality is in LPs.
“With vinyl, you hear the music exactly the way the artists want you to hear it,” Iverson said. “It’s the most pristine sound possible.”
Sam Sacher, a 21-year-old junior ethnic studies major, said she too became interested in record collecting because of her family.
“My dad listened to a lot of bad music but also some cool jazz, funk and soul,” Sacher said.
Sacher said was hooked on “The Blues Brothers” when she was younger, and she believes records are a different, more involved way of listening that has been lost over time.
She said that if she knows she likes the whole album, she’ll buy the record. If she only wants one song she’ll just buy the MP3, although she agrees the sound quality of a record is much better than anything else. Her most recent purchase is Betty Davis’ “Nasty Gal” LP.
“The album is raunchy, sexually charged funk,” Sacher said.
Vinyl sales have helped encourage people to continue buying music, rather than getting it for free off the Internet. Modern LP releases often come in a package that enables the purchaser to walk away with tangible album art, a high quality sound recording and often a code to download the MP3 version of the album for free.
LP purchases always support that band, but also the artist who designed the album art.
Iverson said he just bought the vintage “Grand Funk Railroad,” double LP, and that it came with “an awesome poster.”
Sacher said that she hopes the increase in record sales will encourage bands to wait on releasing their album until it’s perfect. That way, people will want to purchase the entire album to listen to it all the way through and really appreciate it’s crackling sound on the record player.
Adam Ladwig is the director of Radio 1190 on campus and a 21-year-old broadcast news major. He said he collects records because he likes the feel of a record; by holding a record the collector is much more involved in the music, when compared to the impersonal action of Internet downloading.
“It’s much more fun to drop a needle on a record than it is to play a CD,” Ladwig said. “There is a more earthy sound coming off a record player.”
While portability is sacrificed with the use of a record player, an iPod or mp3 player will never get sound that “pops” and “hisses” like that of a record player.
John Martinez has been employed at Bart’s CD cellar for 12 years now and he works upstairs in the vinyl section. He describes how his love of music has connected him with vinyl records.
“I like being around records,” Martinez said. “I’ve had the vinyl bug since I was little and I have been at it so long I just cant imagine doing anything else.”
He believes vinyl records are an “all encompassing medium” with has visual, audio and sensual qualities about it. Martinez also said he believes records create the best sound possible and you can hear the entire audio spectrum.
“Music is a really good escape from reality, it’s a distraction,” Martinez explains. “Music takes you out of yourself, a good concert invigorates you for days. It allows you to tap into feelings you have trouble expressing whether they’re happy or sad.”

Waylon Jennings' RCA Years Reissued On Collectors' Choice

In the 1950s, Jennings was a Lubbock DJ and fledgling singer whose first record was produced by Buddy Holly (Jennings briefly played bass for Holly, and gave up his airplane seat to the Big Bopper before the ill-fated flight that took the lives of the Bopper, Holly and Richie Valens).
In 1963 Jennings, then living in Phoenix, signed to A&M for one LP that went nowhere, and was advised by Bobby Bare, for whom he'd co-written a hit, that Nashville was the place to be. So when RCA Nashville A&R head/producer Chet Atkins invited Jennings to sign, he jumped at the chance: "I started out for Nashville in a yellow Cadillac with a yellow-haired woman."
As Escott reminds us in the liner notes for Folk Country/Waylon Sings Ol' Harlan, "Waylon, remembered by many these days as a grizzled cowboy stoner, was young once. Most artists dismiss their old work, but Waylon thought he was as good as he could be during every phase of his long career, and the evidence bears him out." The two albums, coupled onto one CD, document the 1966-67 period as Jennings found his way in Nashville.
"Folk Country," Jennings' RCA debut, was so called as Atkins wanted to attract some of the folk hootenanny crowd, but the record was mainstream country all the way -- most of the songs written by Harlan Howard, "among the most gifted and prolific writers in country music history," as Escott notes. From the album came Jennings' first hit, "That's the Chance I'll Have to Take." One year, two LPs and a movie later (Nashville Rebel, 1966), Jennings returned to the studio for his fourth RCA album, Waylon Sings Ol' Harlan, cut in '66 and released in '67. Included were Howard songs "Busted," "Tiger By the Tail," "She Called Me Baby," "Foolin' Around" and "In This Very Same Room."
The second CD combines "Love of the Common People" (1967) and "Hangin' On" (1968). Early in his career, Jennings released three LPs a year featuring old songs, then-current songs that moved him, and his most recent hits. Included on "Love of the Common People" were the title track, Lennon/McCartney's "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away," Mel Tillis' "Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town" (three years before it was a hit for Kenny Rogers & the First Edition) and "Young Widow Brown," later recorded by Frankie Miller. In the fall of 1967, Harlan Howard's "The Chokin' Kind" became Jennings' biggest hit, peaking at #8 on the country charts. It appeared on Hangin' On, and later became a #1 soul hit for Joe Simon. Also on Hangin' On: "Lock, Stock and Teardrops," "Hangin' On" and "The Crowd." Atkins, says Escott, "didn't care too much about albums. Singles were his business." And so after accumulating enough recorded material from Jennings, thrice yearly Atkins would pull songs for an LP. Hangin' On came out of several sessions between February and September 1967. And this got Jennings thinking about the meaning of albums.
Jennings grew weary of the "Nashville way." As Escott points out, "It was an assembly line and after five years, Jennings was beginning to resent it. He wanted less quantity and more quality. He wanted albums to be personal statements, not assemblages of songs from different sessions. And he wanted to work with his road band, not session men. Rock singers had achieved that level of autonomy but country musicians were still locked into Nashville's old ways."
Collectors' Choice's third CD twofer includes two 1970 LPs, when the tides were starting to turn. It was a big year for the artist as six of his songs appeared in the Mike Jagger movie Ned Kelly, A&M Records released a compilation of his early recordings, and RCA released a greatest hits collection. He also produced an album by his wife, Jessi Colter. And Chet Atkins, long Jennings' producer, was withdrawing from production to refocus on playing. Jennings was assigned a new producer, Danny Davis, and the transition didn't go well. "I would go into the studio and do tracks," Jennings wrote, and when I came back, I wouldn't recognize the same song." And there were other grievances. Yet their first collaboration, Waylon, turned out well and bore a #3 hit, a cover of Chuck Berry's "Brown Eyed Handsome Man." Also included were Mickey Newberry's stoner anthem "Thirty-third of August" and "All of Me Belongs to You," as well as a re-record of "Yellow Haired Woman."
Jennings shares CD space with Singer of Sad Songs, produced by the late Lee Hazelwood not in Nashville but rather Los Angeles. Sidemen included Randy Meisner (Poco), and future New Riders of the Purple Sage members Allen Kemp and Patrick Shanahan. Material ranged from Hazelwood's "She Comes Running" to Chris Kenner's R&B hit "Sick and Tired," plus songs by Tim Harden, Tom Rush and the Louvin Brothers. The transition to Outlaw was now complete. Singer of Sad Songs was an artistic success -- likely ahead of its time -- but commercially it failed. Escott writes, "Within couple years, however, Waylon Jennings would be making albums that are even now considered unapproachable classics . . . Waylon was in search of something and he was beginning to discover what it was. We'd all find out soon enough."

Jon Anderson Once Again Criticizes Yes Bandmates
A little over a year ago, Jon Anderson wrote a cutting post on his website about how he felt disrespected by the other members of Yes for their lack of communications after he became ill and his replacement in the band by a singer they found on the internet.
Rock Radio is now reporting that he has once again come out with criticisms of his bandmates over their current tour with Yes tribute band singer Benoit David up front when he was healthy enough to do the tour with them.
"I'd actually been ill for about five years and it got to the point where I couldn't continue. I had to take a complete break - and ended up having six operations."The band recruited a guy from a Canadian Yes tribute band and went on the road with him. I felt they could have waited until I'd recovered.
"I said to them I was available, but they said they were contracted to Benoit. It's a complicated situation.
"I think it's inappropriate and not respectful to the fans. People have bought tickets thinking I'm performing on the tour.
"I would like everybody to know that, as much as I wish the band well, they should not tour as Yes. The fans should be advised that I'm not part of the tour."
While the announcement may not be part of Yes' tour advertising, the following statement is prominent on the front of their web page:
Yes will be Europe starting in late October. Steve, Chris, and Alan will once again be joined by Benoit David on vocals and Oliver Wakeman on keyboards. All dates can now be found on the Europe Tour page. Jon Anderson is not part of the lineup on this tour...

Lucy In The Sky Song
Julian Lennon has recorded a tribute to his childhood friend, Lucy Vodden, who passed away recently from lupus. A drawing of Vodden by Julian inspired John Lennon to write Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds for the Beatles.
Lennon was in the studio working with new artist James Scott Cook on Cook's new album for Lennon's theRevolution Records. Originally, Julian was to sing background vocals on Cook's song Lucy, but the circumstances of Vodden's passing turned the record into a duet that is being released as a charity single to benefit lupus research.

Australian Music to the World (THE SIXTIES)
Here is another interesting article from my vinyl friend down under, Donald Kay:
by Donald J. Kay
Australian music from the sixties technically wasn’t recorded by Australians. We had overseas interests, migrants, which Australia would take under her wing and embrace and call them AUSSIE. Artists such as the Bee Gees, (UK) AC/DC (UK/Scottish), Easybeats (English Dutch), Billy Thorpe (UK,) Ray Columbus and the Invaders (New Zealand), to name but a few.
The record buying public went crazy over these artists, buying their records, watching every pop show we could, just so we could get a glimpse of our idols. Their concerts were sell outs, filled with mass hysteria, girls fainting in the aisles, having to be carted out on stretchers. The music was raw and poppy, selling in the millions. Unknowns became known and ‘till this day some of these artists remain legends.
Stories have been tossed around as to how the Aussie artists got their recognition in America. Some say, they made personal appearances on TV shows etc., while other’s say they got records released possibly because ozzie labels did deals with major/minor labels. Artists like Johnny Young, Normie Rowe, Russell Morris, Bee Gees, Johnny O’Keefe, Lynne Randel, and Dinah Lee all went to the UK or US, to record, and had records released there. It wasn’t until the 70’s with the advent of the video, that many major artists gained recognition, band such as: AC/DC, Midnight Oil, The Church, Little River Band, Jimmy Barnes, Kylie, among others. During the ensuing years thousands of videos were made, cementing the Aussie icons onto the world stage of music.
One of the MEGA metal bands in the world today, AC/DC, had their foundation in Western Australia (as the Valentines). The band had great success playing to packed houses all over Perth. With a few singles under their belt, having recorded for the small Perth label called Clarion, the band decided to broaden their musical horizons and make the journey east. After establishing themselves in Melbourne, they scored a record deal with Philips, which would see them record two or three singles, plus an E.P., and then disband. Vince Lovegrove would go on to manage the ever popular Divinyls, while Bon Scott would join Adelaide outfit, Fraternity, who recorded in their own studios in the Adelaide hills. Again the total output would be 3 or 4 singles and 2 albums, which are highly sought after by collectors.
After Fraternity disbanded, another band was happening, waiting for Bon Scott to take hold of the reins and rock hard. Their first lead singer was Dave Evans, who lent his vocals to the track “Can I Sit next To You Girl.” Evans was soon replaced with the legendary Bon Scott, who would re-record the Dave Evans track, making it his own. Bon would go on to leave his mark in rock history with many great hits and albums under his belt, until his sad death on the Feb, 19, 1980. The band almost folded, but kept going for Bon’s sake, and recruited Brian Johnson, who remains as lead singer to this day.
Another great export to the world is the Sydney band, The Church, featuring lead singer, Steve Kilbey. They first came to prominence after recording a 4 track demo and scoring a record deal with EMI records, with such favourites as “The Unguarded Moment,” and their classic first album,” Of Skins And Heart.” They had great success with their singles and albums souring high in the world charts.
Furthermore, another legendary band, The Divinyls would cement themselves in the music world, when Chrysalis records signed them. Founding members Christina Amphlett, (cousin of Little Pattie), and Mark Mcentee, would recruit players Jeremy Paul (ex-Air Supply), Rick Grossman (Matt Finish) among others. They were very big on the US touring circuit, with their albums, “Desperate,” What a Life” and “Temperamental” and remain personal favourites to this day. Chrissie hasn’t been well lately; having being diagnosed with MS. Former guitarist Mark Mcentee has been living in Perth, W.A.managing a clothing shop with his girlfriend.
Speaking of bands that got their start in Perth, before moving to the big smoke (Melbourne), INXS started out as the Farris Brothers, playing around the pubs and clubs of Perth, before relocating to Melbourne and teaming up with a very young Michael Hutchence, Kirk Pengily, and Gary Beers to become the explosive force known as INXS. Their first track, recorded for the small “Deluxe” label, was a cover version of Aussie band, the Loved Ones, track called “The Loved One.” Another 3 or 4 singles followed before they signed up to the giant WEA music group, which would launch them to the world stage with INXS becoming popular both with FM programmers and also a top billing stage act in their own right.
On the political fence sat one Peter Garrett, who would incorporate his political views in the music that was Midnight Oil. The group were playing pubs and clubs before signing up to Powder Works label, before moving to CBS records with such political motivated songs like “U.S. Forces” and “Blue Sky Mining.” At the present moment Garrett is heavily involved in the political arena, with his musical contributions firmly embedded in music history.
The ever popular Men at Work struck gold with their first self-titled album,” Men at Work.” The album would contain the now anathematic track “Down Under” which has become world famous because of its association with the “Americas Cup.” Enough said.
Nick Cave would leave his mark in music history, firstly with the Birthday Party, the Bad Seeds and a great duet with Kylie Minogue “Where the Wild Roses Grow,” a song reminiscent of the Nancy Sinatra/Lee Hazelwood duets of the sixties. His most memorable album is Murder Ballads.
In closing, there are many Australian bands making their mark, not only on Australian shores, but they’re being heard and appreciated by the music fans, Worldwide. Australia stand up and be counted.

In 2005, current and/or former members of AC/DC, Alice in Chains, Institute, Helmet, KISS, Judas Priest, Whitesnake and Dio contribute to the 11-track "Numbers From the Beast: An All-Star Salute To Iron Maiden." The set even features original Maiden singer Paul Di'Anno.

Liam Gallagher Confirms Oasis Split

"Oasis is no longer. I think we all know that."
Back in August, it was reported that Noel Gallagher had quit Oasis, issuing a brief statement that he:
"simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer." In an interview with the London Times (via Billboard), Liam confirmed that Oasis is kaput: "Well, Oasis is no longer. I think we all know that. So that's done."
Given that Noel served as the band's co-frontman and its guiding musical and artistic force, it was tough to picture Oasis soldiering on without him. But up until now, it wasn't exactly clear to anyone if they were a band anymore or not. Well, I guess that this isn't the old 'brothers will be brothers' fued, the group has ended.
Me? I have some mixed emotions, I was not a huge fan, but I never turned off their music when it played on the radio. I once read where they were compared to the Beatles, they certianly got the bickering down to a science like the Fab Four did, but musically, they were not in the same ballpark as the Beatles- not even close. Oasis will go down in rock history as just another band from England, but, unlike the beatles; they will not be remembered forty years from now.

Brian Wilson & Gershwin
Beach Boys mastermind Brian Wilson belongs on any list of the most important musicians of the 20th century as does composer/songwriter George Gershwin. So the news that the two are coming together for a collaboration is taking some by surprise. Although Gershwin died in 1937, he left a legacy that is revered to this day and he is looked up as one of the founding fathers of songwriting. It's hard to compare the two musicians, but they say great minds think alike.
Yesterday the L.A. Times reported that Gershwin's estate had authorized Wilson to complete unfinished songs that Gershwin left behind when he died. According to the Times, Wilson "plans to finish and record at least two such pieces on an album of Gershwin music he hopes to release next year." Wilson told the Times that he's "thrilled to death" at the chance to work on Gershwin's music: "I'm proud to be able to do it. Hopefully I'll be able to do them justice."
Apparently Gershwin left behind "several dozen" fragments in various stages of completion before his death. Wilson isn't quite sure what he'll do with all these pieces: "I can't decipher the verse from the chorus from the bridge, so I'm going to try to insert some new music into them. I might even write some music for an introduction."
Should be an interesting collaboration, stay tuned......

Susan Boyle Debut Album To Be A Covers Album
We first saw Susan Boyle earlier this year rise to fame as runner up on Britain's Got Talent and now she's getting ready to release her debut album next month, which will be an album full of cover songs. She will be covering songs from Madonna ("You'll See") the Rolling Stones ("Wild Horses"), the Monkees ("Daydream Believer"), as well as a song written for her called "Who I Was Born to Be."
"It was my greatest ambition to release an album and I have finally achieved it," she gushed. "This amazing journey has helped me find my own identity and fulfill my wish. There is happiness out there for everyone who dares to dream."
Here's the complete track list for the album, due out Nov. 24:
* "Wild Horses"
* "I Dreamed a Dream"
* "Cry Me a River"
* "How Great Thou Art"
* "You'll See"
* "Daydream Believer"
* "Up to the Mountain"
* "Amazing Grace"
* "Who I Was Born to Be"
* "Proud"
* "The End of the World"
* "Silent Night"
Now, I won't say that I am a big fan of the kind of music she sings, I don't like show tunes or cover songs per se, but I do like her striking voice and her determination and the story of how she developed from some lonely gal minding the house after her Mum died, to becoming an international singing sensation. She sings wiith such conviction and joy and for me, it is a pleasure to hear her angelic voice. I happened to catch her on America's Got Talent (she was a guest star) and when I heard what she would be singing I thought, not THE Rolling Stones song "Wild Horses." However, she pulled it off, with an uncanny ease, I was alone in my living room when I watched it and as she finished, I was clapping for her. Not many singers can do that, here she is singing the Stones' hit. Amazing, simply, amazing:

Unreleased Michael Jackson Song Coming On Sunday
The unreleased Michael Jackson track "This Is It" will get a worldwide digital release this Sunday night, October 11, at midnight EST. The song also plays during the closing sequence of Sony Pictures' forthcoming movie, Michael Jackson's This Is It, and it will be included on the two-CD set Michael Jackson's This Is It, the companion music to the film. The song features backing vocals by Michael's brothers and the Columbia/Epic Label Group is scheduled to release the two-disc album on October 27, in time to coincide with the worldwide release of the motion picture, which arrives in theaters on October 28 and runs for a limited two-week engagement.
Disc one will feature the original album masters of some of Michael's biggest hits such as "Billie Jean," "Smooth Criminal," "Human Nature" and "Thriller" arranged in the same sequence as they appear in the film. The disc ends with two versions of "This Is It," the original and an orchestral rendition. Disc two offers fans a rare listen to the early demo versions of classics "She's Out Of My Life," "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" and "Beat It." It also features a recently discovered spoken word poem from Michael called "Planet Earth." Michael Jackson's This Is It also includes a 36-page booklet featuring exclusive photos of Michael from his last rehearsal.
The movie will offer fans a behind-the-scenes look at the performer as he developed, created and rehearsed for his run of This Is It concerts that would have taken place at London's O2 Arena. Looks like we will be hearing much more form MJ in the upcoming weeks. I was not a huge fan, but what he did for music cannot be measured in my words. He helped in so many ways, both socially and musically. He was a great talent, one of the best showman I have ever witnessed. RIP Mr. jackson, your music will always be heard......

Freddie Mercury Memorial To Be Unveiled Near His Teenage London Home in West London
A memorial for late Queen legend Freddie Mercury is scheduled to be unveiled in West London next month. The 'Hollywood style' honor will be outside the The Centre library in Feltham, the town where Mercury lived in his teenage years after coming to London from Zanzibar.
Councillor Paul Jabbal was part of the committee that pushed for memorial.
“I am delighted that at last we are honoring Freddie Mercury's memory and his achievements with a permanent memorial. As well as celebrating his life and success, it can serve as a reminder to local people that it doesn't matter where you come from, if you work hard you can succeed in whatever you do."
“I'm looking forward to welcoming his family, friends and some band members to Feltham to show how proud we are to be associated with such a legendary artist.”

Carly Simon To Tour
Carly Simon has never been one to play to the masses, especially when it includes long plane flights over large bodies of water. The singer suffers both stage freight and fear of flying, so Europe has always been out of the question.
Simon told Reuters on Thursday that she's putting that behind her and will play a tour of small venues in Europe starting in January. She told reporters "I like to play small places, because I'm much better in an intimate setting than I am in a large hall where I can't see everybody. I really like to see the people that I'm singing to."
Also look for her on everything from the Today Show and Good Morning America to David Letterman and the Colbert Report promoting her new album Never Been Gone. The LP will be out October 27.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Annex in New York City will be free on October 9 and 10 as a tribute to what would have been John Lennon's 69th birthday. Included in the Annex is a Lennon exhibit, put together with the cooperation of Yoko Ono, which includes rare artifacts and New York based items related to Lennon.

Led by Wesley Eisold (publishing house head, esteemed poet and former frontman for eminent hardcore bands Some Girls, American Nightmare and Give Up The Ghost) and ably aided by ex-Xiu Xiu member Caralee McElroy and Dominick Fernow (aka influential noise artist Prurient), Cold Cave deliver the dark and discordant synthesized bleats of Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle with a glossy pop sheen reminiscent of New Order and early Human League.
Cold Cave’s debut album Love Comes Close is out on November 2nd. To coincide the band will tour the UK in late October/early November.
