Press Release:

Queen Release Greatest Video Hits on DVD in North America

August 28th Sees The Best of Queen's 70s and 80s Promo Videos Get Released in 2-disc Box Set

This 2-disc set packages many of Queen’s classic promotional videos into 1 package for the first time. The 33 videos on display have gone through video restoration and received a DTS Surround Sound mix, along with commentary from Brian May and Roger Taylor.

Disc 1 spotlights Queen in the 1970’s, when the music video began to emerge. This collection highlights some of their most beloved tracks, from "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Another One Bites The Dust", "We Will Rock You" & "We Are The Champions". From the freezing backyard shoots of "We Will Rock You" and "Spread Your Wings", to the visual masterpiece that accompanies "Bohemian Rhapsody", Queen was already showing off the various ways that they visually wanted to represent their music.

Disc 2 shows the masterwork of Queen in the 1980’s, from 1982’s Hot Space album through 1989’s The Miracle. With the advent of MTV in the US, Queen proved that they could be as creative visually as they were on record. From the Metropolis-themed video for "Radio Ga Ga", the spoofing of Coronation Street in "I Want To Break Free" (which would be banned from the network) and the band being replaced by children in "The Miracle", Queen put their stamp on the music video in the best way they knew how: by doing something new and different each time.

Flea Records Album With Proceeds Going To The Silverlake Conservatory of Music

From Flea:

Warning! It is not a Chili Peppers record. It does not have songs that are like the Chili Peppers at all. It is a mostly instrumental, weird and arty record, the music is mostly just me creating soundscapes that are very emotional for me, but certainly not for everyone! Just me tripping out at home. I am putting it out to raise money for The Silverlake Conservatory of Music a community based non profit music school that i am an integral part of.

Thorns - Thorns (double vinyl)

Originally formed in 1989 by mastermind Snorre Ruch, Marius Vold, & Bård Faust (Emperor), Norwegian band Thorns has inspired a great number of acts such as Satyricon, Mayhem, Dissection, & Emperor, mainly due to Snorre's highly influential style of playing & creating riffs on the early Thorns demo tapes. So impressed was Euronymous of Mayhem, that Snorre became second guitarist in the band for a while & his riffs were used in classic Mayhem tracks.

'Thorns' was the band's debut (& only, thus far) full-length studio album. It was released in 2001 & is a cult slice of highly-individual Norwegian black metal, including experimental & sometimes industrial influences along with synth passages to create a chilling yet clinical slice of extremity. The album was notable for featuring Satyr of Satyricon on vocals, a duty shared between songs with the vocal talent of Aldrahn (ex-Dødheimsgard) & the recording line-up also featured Hellhammer of Mayhem on drums. The outcome was a unique & original album which is today considered a cult classic release by critics.

This edition of 'Thorns' contains 2 bonus tracks from the band's 2000 demo; namely the album track 'Existence' but also a previously unreleased song called 'TSoS'. This edition of 'Thorns' is presented officially for the first time on vinyl. On double black 180gm vinyl.

Stolen Babies Reveals New Album Cover Art

Avant-garde act Stolen Babies have recently revealed the album cover art for the band's upcoming full-length album called 'Naught, which is slated for release later this year.

"In continuing our collaboration with artist Crab Scrambly, it was really important to us to create something our fans would want to keep staring at while they caress and possibly fondle it's smooth exterior... not something easily done to a downloadable mp3, I must note," states bassist Rani Sharone. "We hope this album cover brings plenty of candy coated smiles to the masses and even more warm and fuzzy feelings when they see the rest of this little gem that is the album's packaging. Naught is our mutant, not so well behaved second full-length studio album and we look forward to its release!"

The band plans to release more details about 'Naught' in the near future.

Beatles Album Sells For $15,000

A NM copy of the first Beatles album to be released in the US recently sold (July 12th) for almost $15,000 at auction on eBay. A rich record collector paid $14,999 for an "Ad-Back" copy of ‘Introducing … the Beatles.’ What makes the album unique is the back cover of the jacket, which featured a full-page advertisement record company Vee-Jay records used after realizing they had 6K front album covers, but no back cover. The ad has 25 records from their label.

In this world of buyer beware, this particular Beatles LP is one of the most counterfeited records out there (I have a 'bootleg copy myself), so be careful, my friends.....

One of the most respected singer-songwriters in music, Yoakam has sold more than 25 million albums, has 12 gold albums and nine platinum or multi-platinum albums, including the triple platinum "This Time." DEVIL TO PAY Sign With RIPPLE MUSIC; Enter Studio to Record New Album For Vinyl and CD

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RIPPLE MUSIC is proud to announce the signing of acclaimed, hard-hitting American Doom rockers, DEVIL TO PAY to their ever-expanding roster!

The band’s fourth, as of yet untitled, album is set for worldwide release on RIPPLE MUSIC in the coming months and the band will subsequently tour to knock the crowds out of their skulls, including appearances in all the major heavy rock/doom festivals.

DEVIL TO PAY commented yesterday upon the new alliance; "We are stoked to be a part of the Ripple family and to work with one of the most genuine heavy rock labels in the world! Having released our first three albums independently, it’s clear that these guys don't compromise in terms of putting out creative music and are the true believers of heavy rock. The variety of bands and the sheer quality of music they’ve released speaks for itself. We are very much honored that our music earned its place among their ranks!"

DEVIL TO PAY was formed in the beginning of the millennia as a doom rock band with metal/stoner and rock tangents, effortlessly crushing skulls while simultaneously coaxing them to sing along. The band hails the almighty riff, but unlike many of their contemporaries, the song is still king. That is what separates the great bands from the shoulda & coulda bands. Now celebrating their 10th year anniversary, DEVIL TO PAY has aged like Kentucky bourbon, distilling a culmination of years of sweat, highway miles, cigarette smoke and hangovers into crushing compositions and bone-jarring, heavy musical moments.

With a catalog of underground releases, DEVIL TO PAY gained accolades, awards and a hard earned cult-like status. They have established themselves as the go-to band for those searching out more than just a few killer riffs; a foundation of heavy that will flourish under the Ripple banner.

NEO-COUNTRY ROCK SENSATION SHANE GAMBLE SADDLES UP FOR NEW ALBUM RELEASE 9/18/12

RADIANT MUSIC VIDEO FOR HIT SINGLE "TURN MY WAY" EXCLUSIVELY PREMIERES THROUGH BAEBLE MUSIC

"Shane Gamble writes classic, Americana leaning songs, dipping in to pop, country, and dabs of indie rock along the way. Think of it as equal parts Nashville and New York, all tumbling about in songs that are crystal clear in their topical intentions."

"Gamble pens the lyrics to adult alternative tunes, then works through the musical arrangements by blending in aspects of folk, rock, country and Western." --- NORTHERN VIRGINIA MAGAZINE

Shane Gamble, the rugged singer / songwriter with honey-toned vocals and hint of country swag, announces the release of his latest album, on September 18, 2012. Effortlessly yet intricately weaving together Pop, Country, Americana, and Indie Rock, Shane Gamble’s music comes across like a freight train heading full steam on the road less traveled. Propelled by a steady and assured rhythm section, layered guitars, and beautiful vocal harmonies, Shane rhapsodizes about love, adventure, and emotional redemption.

You take one look at Shane with his short tussled hair, a worn denim shirt, leather boots, and acoustic guitar slung across his shoulders – and you’ll know that this guy believes in what music can do to the mind and the soul. Gamble attacks his acoustic guitar with an energy rarely seen at such events. He tends to lean forward on one foot and face towards the microphone – guitar at a downward angle, singing from the depths of soul with earnest conviction.

This neo-country crooner is sharing 12 sparkling & seductive new songs on his forthcoming full-length self-titled album. Shane Gamble is an album that finds him combining radio-friendly songs, ("Turn My Way" & "One Balloon") resonating distinctly with Nashville cats and New York City hipsters alike. Each track on Shane Gamble pulls at a different heartstring, revealing raw and emotive melodies accentuated by Shane’s mind blowing talents on the harmonica.

The music video for the album’s compelling debut single "Turn My Way" had its exclusive world premiere on Baeble Music. "It’s not necessarily about perfection, I just love capturing music that is honest and real. I want you to hear ‘Turn My Way’ and connect with the lyrics on an emotional level, that’s the only hope a song has to leave a lasting impression," says Shane about his leading track.

To celebrate his upcoming release, Shane Gamble will be performing a series of Mid-Atlantic tour dates. Shane Gamble will be available on Tuesday, September 18.

Shane Gamble Track Listing:
1) Turn My Way
2) Bleeder
3) One Balloon
4) Rosalee
5) Way Back To Town
6) Break Your Fall
7) Wish
8) Kissing You Tomorrow
9) Blue Sky
10) Bounce Back
11) Shelter Me
12) Always Did

Iron Maiden's Steve Harris To Release Solo LP

Iron Maiden's Steve Harris just announced he will release a solo album called 'British Lion' via EMI Music on September 24, 2012. The album is comprised of ten songs that Steve and his collaborators have been working on for the past few years between Iron Maiden tours and releases.

According to the press release: "With a decidedly heavy rock-vibe this roaring debut paints with a full palette of sounds; brooding, melancholic, righteously indignant and exuberantly heavy. With Kevin Shirley at the mixing helm – whose credits include Iron Maiden as well as Led Zeppelin, Journey and Rush among many others – this is an album to sink your teeth into.

"From the growling riffage of opening salvo 'This Is My God' to the heavy forlorn balladry of follow-up Lost Worlds which showcases Richard Taylor’s soaring vocals, it’s clear that ‘British Lion’ is an altogether different beast from Maiden.

" 'Karma Killer', with its dirge-like muscularity, and 'Us Against The World', with its massive chorus, demonstrates just how far ‘British Lion’ has flexed Steve Harris’ considerable musical muscle. Dovetailed with guitarist David Hawkins’ positively gargantuan lyrical guitar melodies, it’s a mere hors d'oeuvre ahead of the epic, riffing-feast of 'The Chosen Ones', with its swaggering bravado.

" 'A World Without Heaven, at a breathtaking seven minutes and infused with progressive elements without ever teetering into self-indulgence illustrates perfectly these songsmiths’ colossal abilities to create a mood and stay there. Supercharged by Steve Harris’ inimitable style, there’s an un-cynical vibe here that’s as refreshing as it is out of place in today’s all-too-categorised music industry.

"And as far as the name ‘British Lion’; 'I’ve always been proud to be British,' explains Steve, 'I don’t see any reason why I shouldn’t be. It’s a massive part of being me. It’s not like I’m flag-waving or trying to preach, this is not a political statement at all. It’s like supporting your football team, where you come from. I just think it lends itself to some really strong imagery too, and to me it fits in with the sound.'

"With Iron Maiden, Steve Harris has become one of the most recognised and successful ambassadors for British music on the world stage. Having released 15 studio albums, sold over 85 million records worldwide and played more than two thousand gigs in 58 countries in the band’s thirty-five year career, his appeal is truly global.

"And now with ‘British Lion’, Steve steps out from Iron Maiden’s illustrious shadow to present a different side of his musical visions."

The tracklisting for ‘British Lion’ is as follows:

1. This Is My God
2. Lost Worlds
3. Karma Killer
4. Us Against The World
5. The Chosen Ones
6. A World Without Heaven
7. Judas
8. Eyes Of The Young
9. These Are The Hands
10. The Lesson

Ask Mr. Music by Jerry Osborne

FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 16, 2012

DEAR JERRY: One of my favorite music stores has a special section where each week's Top 10 CD albums are displayed.

It was no surprise to see Adele's "21" at No. 1, but the shocker was finding the Beach Boys at No. 3, with "That's Why God Made the Radio."

Unlike many "new" albums by famous 1950s and '60s artists, most of which are anthologies, "best of" compilations, and repackages of older releases, their album contains very recent recordings.

Since their debut album was close to 50 years ago, is there anyone else on the this year's charts, with previously unreleased recordings, whose first LP pre-dates that of the Beach Boys?
—Hans Van Ardsley, Lancaster, Pa.

DEAR HANS: Oh yes, and by 13 years!

From "Surfin' Safari" (1962) to "That's Why God Made the Radio" (2012) is indeed 50 years. FYI: My favorite cut on their CD is "The Private Life of Bill and Sue."

If your question asked "is there any GROUP," the answer would be no. But with the competition open to "ANYONE else on the charts this year," the answer is the venerable 88-year-old Doris Day, who earlier this year raised the bar in this category to the stratosphere.

After four years as the featured female vocalist with the Les Brown Orchestra, Columbia, in mid-1949, gave Doris her first solo LP, "You're My Thrill" (Columbia CL-6071). As the number indicates, this is the 71st LP from Columbia, the company that invented the long-playing record a year earlier. Like most others in the "Popular Music" 6000 series, "You're My Thrill" is a 10-inch disc with eight tracks.

Most in the music world were indeed thrilled to see Doris Day back on the album charts, this time with "My Heart" (Arwin Productions 656C6KK), and nearly 63 years after "You're My Thrill."

Another angle to the story of Doris Day's resurgence is the 47-year gap between "My Heart" and "Love Him" (1964), Doris Day's last charted LP. That span is not likely to be surpassed.

DEAR JERRY: Is there an early '60s tune by Roy Orbison called "Walk Away"? The only title I found that comes even close is "Go Away," but when I heard it I knew it is not the right one.

My only other clue is it was played on the radio at the same time as Pat Boone's "Speedy Gonzales."
—Sharon Moss, Kodiak, Alaska

DEAR SHARON: I'm surprised you were able to unscramble as much as you did, what with both songs playing at once.

On a more serious note, your referencing "Speedy Gonzales" (Dot 16368) was a huge clue because it pointed to the summer of 1962, and that led to a speedy solution.

The full title is "I Can't Walk Away" (Dot 16367), and it happens to be the Dot single issued right before "Speedy Gonzales."

Complicating your search considerably is that "I Can't Walk Away" is actually by Chase Webster, who some might say sounds a bit like Roy Orbison at times."

IZ ZAT SO? Just one year before Chase Webster and Pat Boone had consecutive Dot singles, their soggy paths first crossed.

In March 1961, Chase's own version of a song he wrote, "Moody River" (Southern Sound 101), came out to glowing reviews. Billboard included it with their "Special Merit Spotlight" singles, gave it a four-star rating, then added: "A strong performance of a tragic story about a girl who drowns in Moody River. Song casts a moving spell and Webster sells it with feeling. Watch out [for this one]!" Nevertheless, Webster's original version never got off the ground.

Pat Boone's nearly identical cover followed a month later, and by mid-June reigned as the nation's No. 1 song.

Because he earned a songwriting royalty, on sales by Pat Boone and everyone else who recorded it, Webster at least got a substantial slice of the "Moody River" pie.

We're not sure if he's above same river, but in "I Can't Walk Away" the despondent singer is on a bridge contemplating a jump. That is the temptation from which he couldn't walk away.

Ben Gibbard Announces Solo Album

Ben Gibbard, the Death Cab for Cutie frontman, has announced an Oct. 16 release date in North America for ‘Former Lives,’ which is a 12-track solo collection that will feature guest contributions from Superchunk drummer Jon Wurster, Son Volt’s Mark Spencer and singer-songwriter Aimee Mann.

Gibbard has been working on his ‘Former Lives’ songs for several years, but didn’t really start focusing on completing the tunes until a few years ago when he moved from his former hometown of Seattle to Los Angeles, where he quit drinking, married Zooey Deschanel and went on a health kick that eventually included him running the Los Angeles marathon. Regardless, he never really planned on releasing a solo disc and wants to be clear he’s not leaving his Death Cab mates behind (although he has since split from Deschanel).

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW BOB DYLAN ALBUM – TEMPEST - SET FOR SEPTEMBER RELEASE

COLLECTION OF TEN NEW BOB DYLAN SONGS MARKS MUSICIAN’S 50TH  ANNIVERSARY AS A RECORDING ARTIST

Columbia Records announced today that Bob Dylan’s new studio album, Tempest, will be released on September 11, 2012. Featuring ten new and original Bob Dylan songs, the release of Tempest coincides with the 50th Anniversary of the artist’s eponymous debut album, which was released by Columbia in 1962.

Tempest is available for pre-order now on iTunes and Amazon. The new album, produced by Jack Frost, is the 35thth studio set from Bob Dylan, and follows 2009’s worldwide best-seller, Together Through Life.

Bob Dylan’s four previous studio albums have been universally hailed as among the best of his storied career, achieving new levels of commercial success and critical acclaim for the artist. The Platinum-selling Time Out Of Mind from 1997 earned multiple Grammy Awards, including Album Of The Year, while “Love and Theft” continued Dylan’s Platinum streak and earned several Grammy nominations and a statue for Best Contemporary Folk album.

Modern Times, released in 2006, became one of the artist’s most popular albums, selling more than 2.5 million copies worldwide and earning Dylan two more Grammys. Together Through Life became the artist’s first album to debut at #1 in both the U.S. and the UK, as well as in five other countries, on its way to surpassing sales of one million copies.

Those four releases fell within a 12-year creative span that also included the recording of an Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning composition, “Things Have Changed,” from the film Wonder Boys, in 2001; a worldwide best-selling memoir, Chronicles Vol. 1, which spent 19 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller List, in 2004, and a Martin Scorsese-directed documentary, No Direction Home, in 2005. Bob Dylan also released his first collection of holiday standards, Christmas In The Heart, in 2009, with all of the artist’s royalties from that album being donated to hunger charities around the world.

This year, Bob Dylan was the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country’s highest civilian honor. He was awarded a special Pulitzer Prize in 2008 for “his profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power.” He was also the recipient of the French Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres in 1990, Sweden’s Polar Music Award in 2000 and several Doctorates including the University of St. Andrews and Princeton University as well as numerous other honors.

Tracklist:
1. Duquesne Whistle
2. Soon After Midnight
3. Narrow Way
4. Long and Wasted Years
5. Pay In Blood
6. Scarlet Town
7. Early Roman Kings
8. Tin Angel

Bowie Picture Disc Reissue

EMI are set to release a limited edition 7” picture disc of David Bowie’s "John, I’m Only Dancing" in celebration of the song’s 40th anniversary. The picture disc will be available from September 3rd on EMI.

Originally released on September 1st 1972 on RCA, David Bowie's 'John, I'm Only Dancing' reached number 12 on the UK charts, though it failed to appear on any of his studio albums. Now, to celebrate its 40th anniversary, the track is to get a re-release in the form of a limited edition 7" picture disc. Recorded too late to be included on The Rise & Fall of Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders From Mars it was considered as a track for Aladdin Sane but in the end failed to make the cut.

The A-side has a still from the Mick Rock directed promo video filmed during rehearsals at The Rainbow just a week prior to the original single issue release date of September 1st, 1972.
The AA-side has one of Sukita's more beautiful portraits of Bowie taken at Radio City Music Hall in February 1973, just three weeks after the completion of Aladdin Sane.

this from our friends at soundstagedirect.com.  seth has some new software and it is a godsend to those who go in circles while searching for a specific item, read on.......

SoundStage Direct Connects Audiophiles to Hard-to-Find Vinyl LPs Using Site Search from SLI Systems

Online Retailer of LPs and Stereo Equipment Increases Conversions and Revenue Per Visit with Site Search that Learns from Visitors' Behavior

SLI Systems ( www.sli-systems.com ) today announced that SoundStage Direct ( www.soundstagedirect.com ) has seen its online conversions and revenue per visit increase more than five times since implementing the company's full-service site search. SoundStage Direct, an online retailer with the largest selection of vinyl LP records and newly released vinyl LPs, has also improved the overall site search experience with more relevant search results, and the addition of related search suggestions, refinements, and Rich Auto Complete, all of which contribute to higher conversions and order values.

SoundStage Direct sells new and reissue vinyl LPs along with LP turntables and related stereo equipment, and caters to LP enthusiasts who believe sound quality of vinyl records greatly surpasses that of CDs. Seth Frank, CEO of SoundStage Direct and a vinyl record fan since childhood, founded the company eight years ago in his home, and now offers about 22,000 LP titles from the company's headquarters in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

SoundStage Direct had been using site search from Nextopia, but the solution did not allow for precise searching by customers, nor did it offer refinements or suggestions for similar searches, which encourage customers to browse selections from other bands or genres. "With our previous site search, our visitors would get results that were not specific to the keywords," Frank said. "For instance, if they searched for Mick Jagger, they'd also get results for Mick Jones from the Clash. That's just wrong."

When he asked his previous provider to make improvements so the search results would be more relevant, Nextopia responded with options that would all incur additional expense. In contrast, Frank said he has found SLI's full-service approach to be extremely responsive and accommodating without adding to the cost of the solution.

Improved Site Search Contributes to Successful Holiday SeasonBefore the start of the 2011 holiday shopping season, Frank looked into implementing SLI's full-service SaaS-based Learning Search, on a recommendation from a friend. After a short deployment period, Learning Search was up and running on the SoundStage Direct site in time for the crucial Black Friday kick-off to the holiday shopping season.

"Right away, we could see that search results were much more closely related to keyword terms," Frank said. "And because Learning Search learns from the way our customers search for LPs and applies that information to future searches, results become even more relevant over time. We also now offer search suggestions, which help customers find LPs from similar musicians - which can motivate them to buy more."

In addition to Learning Search, SoundStage Direct is using SLI's Rich Auto Complete feature, which provides keyword suggestions and product images as soon as site visitors begin typing a search term in the search box. Visitors who click on Rich Auto Complete suggestions are nearly twice as likely to convert than visitors who use the search box. The company will also soon use SLI Mobile to power the site search on its mobile commerce site and address the needs of its growing audience of mobile shoppers.

As SoundStage Direct's search experience has become more robust, more shoppers are using site search, Frank said. "Instead of browsing on a category page, like jazz or hip hop, shoppers are going directly to the site search box," Frank said. "That's good news for our business, because we've found that customers who use search will spend more and buy more than people who don't use search."

"For online retailers with large product catalogues, site search offers a way to increase customer engagement, and guide customers to relevant product choices while helping them narrow down the options," said Shaun Ryan, CEO of SLI Systems. "And tools like Rich Auto Complete and related search suggestions also lead customers to the products and content they need, encouraging them to browse and buy."
