"Total Entropy", out on Nuun Records, brings together for the first time on an album envisioned by the artist. Includes previous unreleased or limited edition collaborations by the likes of Tim Burgess, Toog, Antipop, Brian Molko and many others. Poetically direct, vital and glowing, between dream and madness, Total Entropy evokes the artist's impossible love or interrupted boredom and thirst for life. Alternating orchestral ballads, blues-rock, new wave experimental and minimal techno, including guitars and layered sounds and the deep and intense voice of Asia, Total Entropy is difficult to categorize and reveals a talented charming perspective, between dark and light.

This debut album of America (1972) is considered as a folk-pop classic filled with a great collection of memorable songs that proves their influence on acts as The Eagles and Dan Fogelberg. Using vocal harmonies on "Sandman" and "Children and an intricate interplay of acoustic guitars is for the period of time highly ambitious. The hits of this album are ofcourse the widely known "A Horse With No Name", "I Need You" and again "Sandman". But also the buoyantly charming "Three Roses", the yearningly lovely "Rainy Day" and the quietly ringing "Clarice" make this album as one of their best and recommendable for any kind of music fan. A classic to own and a stepping stone to into the world of folk-pop music.

Tim Buckley - Starsailor
On his first albums Tim was a gentle, melodic folk rocker but during the making of these albums he evolved into a downright experimental singer/songwriter exploring jazz and avant-garde. The result? Starsailor!
The album is a culmination of his experiments and with former Mother of Invention Bunk Gardner on sax and alto flute the story is complete. Surrealistic lyrics, heavy chords and unexpected twists make Starsailor a brilliant album that admittedly, isn't for everybody, but endures as one of the most legendary albums ever made by a singer/songwriter.

Side 2 1. Jungle Fire 2. Starsailor 3. The Healing Festival 4. Down By The Borderline
DEAR JERRY:Greetings from the Chemical Capital of the World!
Unfortunately, even here there is no chemical solution for my music mystery, one involving Sam Cooke.
Around the time Elvis returned from Germany, one of our local dee jays mentioned that Elvis and Sam Cooke were the only artists with two songs in the WAMS Top 30.
Presley's two were "Stuck on You" and "Fame and Fortune," and I know one of Cooke's was "Teenage Sonata."
Nowhere can I find even a peep about the second Sam Cooke hit that week.
Every available source, online plus music books and album liner notes, say "Chain Gang" is the follow-up to "Teenage Sonata," but it came several months later and can't be the one.
What is this song that seems like it never was?
—Cleo Hoyle, Wilmington, Del.
DEAR CLEO: It is funny that you recall that quirky Top 30 tidbit about Wilmington's Authentic Music Survey (WAMS reverse acronym, or "backronym"), but not the Sam Cooke tunes that made it worth mentioning.
For the week of April 17, 1960, they rank "Teenage Sonata" at No. 13 and dropping, and "You Understand Me" at No. 30 and rising.
So the real follow-up to "Teenage Sonata" (RCA Victor 47-7701) was "You Understand Me" (RCA Victor 47-7730), and then came "Chain Gang" (RCA Victor 47-7783).
These three, plus "If You Were the Only Girl," the B-side of "Teenage Sonata," came out in 1961 on a Compact 33 Double EP (RCA Victor LPC-126), titled "Sam Cooke Sings."
Other than this EP and the original 45, "You Understand Me" seems to have fallen through the cracks. Inexplicably, this terrific tune is not on any of Sam Cooke's LPs.
Hear it here!
The astute observation you recall so accurately must have been made by one of these WAMS Fabulous Five: Willie Gaylord; Roger Holmes; Mel Bernam; Jack Barry; or Gene Miles.
For the record, both of the Elvis hits were back-to-back on one record (RCA Victor 47-7740), whereas the two Sam Cooke titles were on separate singles.
DEAR JERRY:An interesting blog called "Country's Top 10 Most Influential Artists" makes this statement about Lefty Frizzell: "At the height of his popularity he had four songs in the Top 10 simultaneously, a feat only matched by the Beatles a decade later."
Calling this "a feat only matched by the Beatles" implies no one else had four or more of the nation's Top 10 spots, regardless of time period or genre.
I'll bet there are a few earlier stars — Bing Crosby comes to mind — that equaled or even surpassed having 40% of the Top 10.
Can you provide some specifics to back me up?
—Marty Fuhrman, Halifax, Nova Scotia
DEAR MARTY: Limiting Mr. Frizzell's feat to just C&W history would have been best.
Had the blogger recruited either one of us to proofread, the Beatles would either be left out of the discussion, or accompanied by additional and essential details. As I now know, that means a few more hours of research.
Since most of William Orville "Lefty" Frizzell's bios make mention of his superb Top 10 achievement, but without providing titles and a date, let us begin there.
It was April 14, 1951 when "I Love You a Thousand Ways"; "Look What Thoughts Will Do"; "Shine, Shave, Shower (It's Saturday)"; and "I Want to Be with You Always" were all in the Country Top 10.
Now for some testimony on your behalf:
Not only did Bing Crosby have five of the Top 10 hits several times, there was one week in July 1944 when the only position in the top six he didn't claim was No. 3. Harry James managed to sneak in there.
Joining Bing in the Had Half of the Top 10 Club are the orchestras of Glenn Miller and Jimmy Dorsey, with both bands achieving it multiple times.
IZ ZAT SO? Besides being singers, what do these folks have in common: Andrews Sisters; Bing Crosby; Jimmy Dorsey; Trudy Erwin; Glen Gray; and the Mills Brothers?
Just happens they all recorded for Decca Records, far and away the most dominant label of the 1940s. Not RCA Victor. Not Columbia. Not Capitol.
Recordings by these stars are why, on more than one occasion in the mid-'40s, nine of the Top 10 hits were Decca singles.

The 13th Floor Elevators - Easter Everywhere (vinyl pre-order)

Previously only available as part of the Music Of The Spheres box set, this is the first official mono vinyl reissue of Easter Everywhere since 1967.
"Their masterpiece. Easter Everywhere is an all-time higher key document. With a measured Erickson vocal and a blissful Sutherland solo, 'Slip Inside This House' is eight minutes of constant build: the guide for a new enlightenment. The rest isn't bad either..." - Mojo

Soft Machine's second album was the last to prominently feature vocals - Robert Wyatt on particularly dazzling form - and the first to feature Hugh Hopper as a band member.
Volume Two is a wildly imaginative collection of off-kilter songs and proto-Jazz Rock instrumental strangeness that includes the two long suites Rivmic Melodies and Esther's Nose Job, and the timelessly beautiful Hugh Hopper piece, Dedicated To You But You Weren't Listening.

Jane’s Addiction has always thrown THE most provocative and extravagant parties in rock, mixing a fierce musicality and streetwise lyrics with a theatrical flair. 2011 and 2012 saw the band - who have always outrageously combined electricity, sex and danger - return to the stage in support of their acclaimed album The Great Escape Artist (Capitol Records). Filmed at New York City’s Terminal 5 on July 25, 2011 at a free show for the album’s launch, LIVE IN NYC encapsulates the true essence of Jane’s Addiction in concert, mixing music with performance art. With the band as the ringleaders, they take you, along with a diverse cast of vagabonds, through an extravagant world of flying burlesque dancers, trapeze artists and carnival sideshow antics, offering stunning visuals enhanced with a visual masterpiece of lasers, capturing the incredible mood of this spectacular night. Amidst it all, Jane’s Addiction, featuring frontman Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins and bassist Chris Chaney, gives astonishing performances of one classic after another including their 1988 Top 10 hit “Jane Says;” “Been Caught Stealing” and “Stop!,” both No. 1 singles on the Modern Rock Tracks chart; “Ain’t No Right,” “Three Days,” and “Just Because,” which went to No. 1 on the Modern Rock Tracks and No. 4 on Mainstream Rock chart. LIVE IN NYC also features the debut live performance of their latest single, “Irresistible Force (Met The Immovable Object),” from The Great Escape Artist. Bonus material on the Blu-ray & DVD include an interview with Perry Farrell and photo gallery.

Osbourne went on the BBC in England to discuss the band's new single, "God Is Dead?" and the inspiration behind the track. Ozzy explained, "I was in somebody's office and there was a magazine on a table and it just said, 'God Is Dead', and I suddenly thought about 9/11 and all these terrorist things and religion and how many people have died in the name of religion. When you think about the tragedy that's happened throughout time, it just came in my head. You'd think by now that their God would have stopped people dying in the name of, so I just starting thinking that people must be thinking, 'Where is God? God is dead' and it just hit me."

Let's have a little fun, so here are some rock and roll nuggets so you can win at music trivia games and become a top musicologist!
While The Rascals' "People Got to Be Free" was perceived by some as being related to the assassinations of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy, it was actually recorded before the latter's death. The song was written partly as a reaction to an ugly encounter when the band was threatened by a group of rednecks after their tour vehicle broke down in Fort Pierce, Florida.
In 1964, The Beatles topped the Cashbox Magazine record chart for sixteen straight weeks with four different songs. From January 25th until May 16th the Fab Four lead the best sellers list with "I Want To Hold Your Hand" (8 weeks), "She Loves You" (2 weeks), "Twist And Shout" (1 week) and "Can't Buy Me Love" (5 weeks). Their streak was interrupted by Louie Armstrong's "Hello Dolly" for one week before "Love Me Do" put them back on top for another week.
In 1967, a song called "Yellow Balloon" by a group of studio musicians billed under the same name, reached #25 on the Billboard Hot 100. The problem was that there was no actual band that could go on tour in support of the single or to record an album. Producer Ken Handler of Canterbury Records enlisted the help of Don Grady, a former Mouseketeer and better known as Robbie Douglas of the TV series My Three Sons, who put a band together and recorded a self-titled LP that is now considered a cult classic.
According to Guinness World Records 2009, Led Zeppelin hold the record for the "Highest Demand for Tickets for One Music Concert" as 20 million on-line requests were made for their December 10th, 2007 reunion show at The O2 Arena in London.
When Elvis bought Graceland for he and his parents to live in, he said he wanted to create "the most beautiful bedroom in Memphis" for his mother. Gladys, however had other priorities. She wanted to add a chicken coop and a hog pen.
The hit version of Neil Diamond's "Cherry, Cherry" has no drum track because it was recorded as a demo and was never intended to be released as a single. In later sessions, drums and horns were included, but none of those tracks turned out as well as the demo.
When Rupert Holmes wrote "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)", he originally wrote it as "If you like Humphrey Bogart and getting caught in the rain", before coming up with the final lyrics. He would later admit that at the time, he had never tasted a Pina Colada.
America reached #8 in the US with "Ventura Highway" in 1973. Although no such highway exists, there is a Ventura County in California and Highway 101 runs through it.
Although a tombstone inscribed with the name "Eleanor Rigby" stands in the graveyard of St. Peter's Parish Church in Woolton, Liverpool, just yards away from where Paul McCartney met John Lennon in 1957, Paul said he came up with the name Eleanor from actress Eleanor Bron, who had starred with the Beatles in the film Help!. Rigby came from Rigby & Evens Ltd, Wine & Spirit Shippers, the name of a store in Bristol. In 1984, Paul was quoted as saying "I just liked the name. I was looking for a name that sounded natural. Eleanor Rigby sounded natural."
