"Man of Steel" Soundtrack Now Available as Vinyl Record

Furnace Record Pressing Completes Pressing of "Man of Steel: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack"

Original soundtrack by Hans Zimmer pressed on Limited Edition 180g Double Vinyl LP.

This summer's blockbuster "Man of Steel," was released June 14, 2013, and has earned over $500 million worldwide. Soon fans can also rejoice over a Limited Edition Deluxe 180 gram, Double-LP Vinyl Record of the critically-acclaimed soundtrack, manufactured by Furnace Record Pressing.  Academy Award®-, Grammy-, and Golden Globe-winning composer Hans Zimmer took on scoring the film, which reboots the iconic story of Superman. Working with director Zack Snyder, the soundtrack combines unique musical themes and outside-of-the-box collaborations with some of the best drummers and pedal steel guitarists in the world. Zimmer brought together a 12-member drum circle, including such greats as Jason Bonham, Sheila E. and Pharrell Williams, and combined it with eight world-renowned pedal steel guitarists.

Water Tower Music, the in-house music label for Warner Bros. Pictures, chose Furnace to manufacture the film's soundtrack on vinyl. Furnace Record Pressing is a world leader in manufacturing audiophile-quality records. The soundtrack is pressed on two 180-gram LPs, and then packed into full-color gatefold jackets with a bonus download card.

"WaterTower Music is thrilled to partner with Furnace for the "Man of Steel" LP," says head of WaterTower Music, Jason Linn. "This double disc release gives fans yet another exciting way to experience the dynamic brilliance of composer Hans Zimmer. WaterTower looks forward to exploring many future vinyl projects with both Hans and Furnace."

Musicians and record labels alike are taking advantage of the recent resurgence in popularity of vinyl records. Consumers are reigniting the love affair they once had with tangible artwork and lifelike audio reproduction that cannot be found on CDs or digital download formats.

"Releasing a symphonic score on vinyl is a great treat for fans of the movie and of Hans Zimmer. The richness of this masterpiece is heightened by the warmth that the vinyl provides upon playback, and the packaging is just stunning," says Furnace president Eric Astor.

Fans of the movie and the soundtrack are able to pre-order the Limited Edition Vinyl soundtrack now at the Superman Homepage Online Store HERE

Holly Golightly - Truly She Is None Other (Expanded Edition)

10 year anniversary re-issue of Holly's greatest album with 2 BONUS UNRELEASED tracks!

Collector's edition on RED vinyl and digipak CD

It's been out of stock for a while so we've decided to make this re-issue a little bit special. Often cited as perhaps her best solo album 'Truly She Is None Other' was recorded in 2002/3 at Toe-Rag Studios by Liam Watson and features the song 'Tell Me Now So I Know' which was picked for the main title theme for Jim Jarmush's 'Broken Flowers' movie.

Among the nine Holly originals the album features two Ray Davies songs ('Time Will Tell' & 'Tell Me Now So I Know'), along with 'There's An End', (penned by her friend Craig Fox from The Greenhornes.) There's also a fine version of Jessie Mae Robinson's 'Black Night', a song most famously covered by Muddy Waters.

Backed by the cream of Toe-Rag's in house musicians, this is Holly Golightly at her finest.
With sleeve notes by none other than Jack White III.

RE-ISSUE OF THE LEGENDARY DEBUT GORILLAS ALBUM FROM 1978

**FIRST TIME ON VINYL SINCE 1978**

LP on RED VINYL! (Ltd to 1000 copies)

CD first time on digipak!

The Gorillas livened up the mid-70s rock scene like few others.

They were the missing link between Hendrix, glam and punk.

Interest in Jesse Hector and The Gorillas (originally The Hammersmith Gorillas) has grown steadily in recent years in no small part due to Caroline Catz' documentary film, A Message To The World, the Gorilla Got Me compilation on Big Beat Records and the recent Crushed Butler albums re-released on Last Years Youth Records. The band also featured heavily in Wired Up!, last years' excellent book of proto-punk and glam record sleeves. Unavailable for some time, we're now re-issuing their debut album. On vinyl for the first time since 1978, our version features 3 BONUS TRACKS not featured on the original Raw Records release ("I'm Seventeen" "My Son's Alive" and the classic single "It's My Life".)

Legendary Rocker, Pete French, Teams With Ripple Music To Release New LEAF HOUND Album, Live In Japan

Late 60s/early 70s classic rock band LEAF HOUND is legendary.

And now the band's equally legendary frontman, Pete French, and the rest of LEAF HOUND has joined forces with Ripple Music to release an LP, CD, DVD project of all newly recorded live material -  Live in Japan.

Recorded live in July of 2012 in Tokyo, Live in Japan will see worldwide release later this year via Ripple Music. Look out world, LEAF HOUND has been unleashed once again!

"As good a rock album as you could hope to hear. (LEAF HOUND, 'Unleashed')" -Alastair Riddell, Kerrang!

"...a long-lost and quite wonderful doom-tinged hard rock band"  - Dave Ling, Classic Rock

"...rightful heirs to the Led Zep/Bad Company blues rock crown" - Pete Sargeant, Blues Matters

Few bands from the proto-metal period command the undying respect and nods of approval as does Leaf Hound.   Talk about a pedigree.  Leaf Hound formed in 1969 under their original name, Black Cat Bones. Early incarnations of the Black Cat Bones featured guitarist Paul Kossoff and drummer Simon Kirke who both left to form Free. Black Cat Bones issued one album then replaced their vocalist with perfect-wailer Peter French, Guitarist Rod Price departed soon after to join Foghat and French added his cousin Mick Halls on guitar.  With that change, Leaf Hound was born.

In 1970, Leaf Hound released the seminal album "Growers of Mushrooms" which has rightly been hailed as a bonafide classic of 70's British underground rock scene. Classic Rock magazine has raved that "Growers of Mushrooms" is one of the most influential pieces of music on the stoner rock, and the album has gained a reputation as being one of the true lost gems of the early British hard rock scene.   Original Decca vinyl copies on are one of the most rare collectable rock albums out there with prices soaring above £4,000!

After the band broke up, Peter French found himself in high demand. He has been the voice of Atomic Rooster, Cactus and Randy Pie as well as releasing an acclaimed solo album on Polydor, 'Ducks In Flight', which featured the likes of Micky Moody, Brian Robertson and Kenny Jones. But the legend of Leaf Hound wouldn't die.  Interest in the band took a seismic shift when the album was first re-released on CD in 1994, finally giving rock fans easy access to the buried treasure. It gained a second re-release in 2005. The music is a prime slice of classic 70's hard rock - a heady mix of Cream, The Who, Free, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.

Following intense public demand, Pete French put a new version of Leaf Hound together in the Spring of 2004, and in 2007 Leaf Hound released their first new album in decades,  'Unleashed' on the R.A.R.E/Repertoire label to highly positive critical acclaim. The opening track, '105 Degrees', was voted one of the top 100 rock tracks of 2007 by Classic Rock magazine. To launch the release of the album, they headlined the second night of the All Hallows Festival at London's Camden Underworld.

Now, the next chapter in the myth that is Leaf Hound unfolds as the band has joined the stalwart heavy rocking label, Ripple Music to unleash an all new set of killer live Leaf Hound onto the unsuspecting public.  Soon to be released on LP, CD and DVD formats, Ripple Music will bring to a whole new audience the legend that is Leaf Hound.  With a roster of classic proto-metal rockers that includes Poobah, JPT Scare Band, and Iron Claw, Ripple Music has already proven its ability to bring classic rocking bands to a modern audience.

LEAF HOUND is:

PETER FRENCH - VOCALS
LUKE RAYNER - GUITAR
PETER HERBERT - BASS
JIMMY ROWLAND - DRUMS

Free - Fire And Water

Free was one of the British bands that pioneered Hard Rock.  Despite a short life span, they were a huge influence bands such as Bad Company and Foreigner, thanks to their style of stripped-down British Blues.

Their follow up to Free [MOVLP415], Fire And Water, peaked at #17 in the album charts, carried by the classic Rock anthem "All Right Now" – which peaked at #4 in Billboard's Hot 100 in 1970. Paul Kossoff's guitar playing and Paul Rodger's incredible voice made Free one of the best bands around. Their revered legacy is justified with Music On Vinyl's 180 gram audiophile treatment.

Muddy Waters - More Real Folk Blues

This is Muddy in his younger years, recorded on several dates spanning 1948-1952 at what were probably his first amplified sessions.  Great tracks include the scorching "She's Alright", "Kind Hearted Woman" and "Honey Bee". More Real Folk Blues (originally released in 1967 on the famed Chess Records) is an essential early Muddy Waters compilation for Chicago Blues fans.

As the liner notes by Crawdaddy Magazine's Paul Williams state: 'Listening to Muddy Waters is as simple as forgetting your zip code; you just relax your mind, let go of the little things and let the blues come through, clean and easy. When Muddy sings, you feel the blues, and you feel the joy that goes with them.'.  On 180 gram audiophile vinyl !

Corrosion Of Conformity - Wiseblood

One of the most well-known Corrosion of Conformity albums, Wiseblood was their 5th full length release, peaking at #104 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart in the US in 1996.

The history of Corrosion of Conformity in modern heavy music is highly significant, not least due to Pepper Keenan's formation of Down along with Pantera's Philip Anselmo, leaders of the New Orleans NOLA scene.  A totally authentic heavy band and movement, COC naturally progressed from their thrashy, underground days to pushing the boundaries of what was classed as heavy music.  Decibel Magazine refer to COC as 'a crucial stylistic lynchpin in the bridge between metal and punk' that 'irrevocably re-shaped crossover's sonic possibilities.'.

Metallica's James Hetfield makes a guest appearance on this album, providing backup vocals on "Man Or Ash".
  • 180 gram audiophile vinyl
  • First 750 copies on black/ red splattered vinyl. Afterwards available on black vinyl.
  • Printed innersleeves
  •

Damn Yankees - Damn Yankees

Damn Yankees successfully delivered their unique blend of arena Rock well into the early nineties. They lived up to their name (or "Bad Reputation") as patriotic warriors defending the stars & stripes on and off stage.

The band, consisting of the inimitable Ted Nugent, Styx member Tommy Shaw and Night Ranger's Jack Blades, rocked stages with a vengeance. Their self-titled debut went platinum, carried by the hit charting power ballad "High Enough", the rocking opener "Coming Of Age" and "Runaway".

This is the first time Damn Yankees is reissued since its original release in 1990!  On 180 gram audiophile vinyl

50 Years Ago "Surf City" #1 On The Charts

In July 1963, "Surf City" by Jan and Dean hit #1 on the charts.

Surf City  was released in June of 1963, a song co-written ironically by Beach Boy Brian Wilson (and Jan Berry); whose band helped to define the genre (who released their debut LP Surfin' Safari on October 1, 1962)

The first draft of the song, with the working title "Goody Connie Won't You Come Back Home," was written by Brian Wilson.  He gave it to Jan Berry and Dean Torrence of Jan and Dean who finished writing and recording it with Wilson in the early 1960s.  Surf City" became the first surf song to reach #1 on theBillboard Hot 100 in 1963. The song also crossed to #3 on Billboard's R&B charts.

"Surf City" is one of a handful of Jan and Dean songs that used the group of leading studio musicians known as The Wrecking Crew. They included:

Billy Strange - guitar, arranger
Ray Pohlman - guitar, leader
Glen Campbell - guitar
Bill Pitman - bass
Hal Blaine - drums
Earl Palmer - drums

ORIGINAL MEMBER OF THE GRASS ROOTS CREED BRATTON REVEALS DETAILS FOR NEW ALBUM

TELL ME ABOUT IT "AN AUDIO BIOGRAPHY ABOUT LSD, UNEMPLOYMENT & THIRD ACTS"

Vinyl Version Available Now

(Los Angeles, CA) - Singer-songwriter and actor-comic Creed Bratton, currently best-known for the quirky former 60’s rock-star character he portrays on the NBC TV hit comedy series The Office, is back with a new album/audio-biography Tell Me About It. Creed Bratton along with his band The Rubbermen give us a behind the scenes look into Creed. Fans of Creed's character on The Office often wonder who Creed really is - what's his story? Well his new album Tell Me About It may give them an idea. It's a three-act "audio-biography" that tells his story through music. From LSD to unemployment lines and third acts, the Creed that sits behind his desk playing solitaire and eating mung beans has done a lot of "living for today."

"I approached my 6th solo album by writing with different writers I respected. So after The Rubbermen and I had started the album, Dave Way my producer said this is the story of your career. He said you should make this a concept album. He was right.....I hadn't even seen that side of it. So we went from there to approaching it that way. The 3 acts are like a play. It's a story that takes you along in a psychedelic way. ‘Tell Me About It’ .... a audio-biography indeed, says Bratton.

A founding member of the seminal 60s rock band The Grass Roots, Bratton recorded and toured extensively behind the back-to-back monster hit singles, "Let’s Live for Today" and "Midnight Confessions," which became early 60s youth anthems. Several original members of the band reunited in 2000 for the 35th Anniversary of the historic rock venue The Whiskey A Go Go, where bands such as The Byrds, The Turtles, among others have played.

Bratton’s Dunder Mifflin co-workers got a preview of the actor’s guitar chops in a previous episode of The Office when Bratton rescued a not-quite-up-to-the-task boss Michael Scott from band jam embarrassment. His last release Bounce Back, assisted by his backing band, The 3DVB’s (aka The Rubbermen) and his Office co-star Ed Helms, showed Bratton’s passion as a serious and accomplished musician.

Vinyl Record News & Music Notes

Rhino Records Announces Black Sabbath Vinyl Reissues

Rhino Records have just announced the July 30th vinyl reissues of three Black Sabbath's 1970's releases including 'Technical Ecstasy,' 'Never Say Die!' and 'We Sold Our Souls For Rock ‘N’ Roll.'
Sabbath’s seventh studio album, 'Technical Ecstasy,' was released in September of 1976. The LP continued the band's separation from its signature doom and darkness that had been such a trademark of their early career. While the album's lyrics dealt with topics such as drug dealers, prostitution, and transvestites, the music itself was seldom dark, including tracks like “Rock 'n' Roll Doctor,” “Dirty Women” and “It's Alright.”  (the latter sung by drummer Bill Ward—a decision supported by Ozzy Osbourne), which were all very different from the band's earlier recordings.

'Never Say Die!' was the band's eighth studio LP released in 1978 and the last Sabbath studio album until 2013 with Ozzy Osbourne before he was fired from the group in 1979.  In the UK the title-track, released well-ahead of the album and the band's first UK picture-sleeve single, reached #21 in the chart and gave the band its first Top Of The Pops appearances since 1970.

'We Sold Our Soul For Rock 'N' Roll' was released on December 1, 1975 in the UK and on February 3, 1976 in the US.  It is a double-album compilation of the band’s first six records and includes the Black Sabbath staples such as "The Wizard," "War Pigs," "Paranoid," "Iron Man," "Sweet Leaf," "Fairies Wear Boots" and "N.I.B.;" among others.  In the US the RIAA certified the album as Gold in February 1980, Platinum in May 1986, and 2x Multi-Platinum in March 2000.

Black Sabbath - 13

The drum tracks on the album were laid down by RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE sticksman Brad Wilk following original drummer Bill Ward's decision to bow out of the reunion. Osbourne went on the BBC in England to discuss the band's new single, "God Is Dead?" and the inspiration behind the track. Ozzy explained, "I was in somebody's office and there was a magazine on a table and it just said, 'God Is Dead', and I suddenly thought about 9/11 and all these terrorist things and religion and how many people have died in the name of religion. When you think about the tragedy that's happened throughout time, it just came in my head. You'd think by now that their God would have stopped people dying in the name of, so I just starting thinking that people must be thinking, 'Where is God? God is dead' and it just hit me."

Tori Amos - Under The Pink

Released in 1994, Tori Amos' 2nd album Under The Pink was received with great popular acclaim. After her appealing debut Little Earthquakes, Under The Pink established Amos as a Pop force to be reckoned with.

She finds herself in the niche Kate Bush and Joni Mitchell originally carved out, but Amos forged her own style of songwriting, virtuoso piano playing perfectly complementing her sensitive and subtle voice. Emotional lyrics are strengthened by beautifully orchestrated strings and guitars, all adding to a wonderful experience. We've thrown in a first pressing of 1.000 pink coloured copies, each individually numbered for high collectability.
  • 180 gram audiophile vinyl
  • First 1000 copies numbered  & limited on pink vinyl. Also available on black.

Uriah Heep - Salisbury (Expanded)

Perfectly combining Heavy Metal and Prog Rock, Uriah Heep proved on their second album Salisbury (1972) that they were the undisputed flag bearers of the British Prog Rock movement. The album's title track is a 16 minute long jam on the B side, which shows the diversity and musicianship of these guys.

Absolutely unique about the Music On Vinyl reissue is the bonus LP, which contains a wealth of previously unreleased tracks and single edits. It also contains "Simon The Bullet Freak", a track that was released in the US but was not included in the UK tracklisting. The gatefold sleeve sports the original UK artwork. Heep fans will undoubtedly love it!
  • 180 gram audiophile vinyl
  • Insert
  • Including  a bonus LP
  • Expanded edition never before on vinyl

 Bill Withers - Menagerie

Bill Withers has been making a comeback since the release of the documentary Still Bill, but there are many who would argue that, although he hasn't recorded an album since 1985, he never really left.

His musical legacy has found a place in our hearts and settled into our subconscious, none more so than Menagerie's opening track "Lovely Day".  Every song as smooth as the next, this upbeat album is perfect for the summer to come. There's a relaxed vibe running through every note – even  in the more up-tempo songs – and a consistency here that shows Bill at his best.

Now's the perfect time to add this certified gold record that hasn't been reissued on vinyl since 1978 to your ever-growing Bill Withers collection! On 180 gram audiophile vinyl!

The Grapes Of Wrath - High Road (Vinyl)

Platinum-selling Canadian folk-rock trio The Grapes of Wrath announce the release of High Road on March 19, 2013 via Toronto-based imprint Aporia Records. High Road is the first album in 22 years to feature all three of the band’s original members Kevin Kane, Tom Hooper and Chris Hooper. In 2010, the three founding members shared the stage for the first time since their final show in 1992. “We realized there was a special kind of chemistry between the three of us,” recalls Chris. “I guess because we’d grown up together.”

“It’s interesting how this has evolved from doing just a single reunion show to signing a new record deal – all on it’s own steam,” says Kevin. “It’s nice when things sort of come together of their own volition and don’t feel forced or contrived.

“In the spring of 2012 the trio gathered at co-producer Darryl Neudorf’s (Neko Case, Blue Rodeo) private studio to begin work on the album – the first time all three had been in a studio together since completing their final album, These Days, at London’s Abbey Road in 1991. The resulting twelve tracks, written by both Kevin and Tom, feature the signature harmonies, vivid melodies and heartfelt lyrics The Grapes are known for yet also explore new sounds that will surprise the average fan.

“This record is a continuation of where we last left off. This isn’t a nostalgia trip. It’s like our other records – the next step in our growth as songwriters and musicians. The only difference is it took us a little longer to make the step” says Tom.

We expect this item to be in stock on July 26, 2013
