Windhand: Announce New Album 'Soma' - Out September 17 on Relapse Records

Confirmed for Roadburn Festival 2014  Listen to the 'Soma' album trailer here!

Richmond, Virginia’s psychedelic doom band, Windhand, are set to release their second full-length album Soma via Relapse Records on September 17 (Pre-order here).

After surging the DIY circuit with months of touring, their own IPA, a critically acclaimed self-titled release last year and a split with label-mates Cough this year, Windhand have confirmed they’ll be taking the main stage at next year’s Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, The Netherlands on Saturday, April 12. Soma is nothing short of transcendent. This record is for more than just doom-metal fanatics—this is an epic record for all fans of guitar driven rock and roll.

On Soma, Windhand successfully make syrupy slow, downtuned doom hooky and anthemic. Propelled by singer Dorthia Cottrell’s beautifully haunting bellow, Windhand’s dual guitar attack sounds like the glorious misfit offspring of Black Sabbath and Nirvana. An easy candidate for heavy music record of the year. The album was recorded and mixed by the band’s own Garrett Morris at The Darkroom and mastered by James Plotkin in their hometown. Take a sneak peak of the album here.

Formed in 2009, Windhand (Asechiah Bogdan - Guitar, Parker Chandler - Bass, Dorthia Cottrell - Vocals, Garrett Morris - Guitar, and Ryan Wolfe - Drums) play what has been described as a tinnitus inducing mix of eerie psychedelia and haunting ambient doom. 2012 saw the release of their self-titled, debut LP via Forcefield Records and was critically acclaimed by Decibel, Pitchfork, CVLT Nation and many more.

Vinyl is available in Blue (Limited to 300), Deep Purple (Limited To 100), Blood Red (Translucent) (Limited to 1,000) Pre-Order HERE

Cat Rapes Dog - Life Was Sweet (Vinyl)

Limited edition RED import vinyl with a sugar scratch-n-sniff cover. Only 245 copies made. Includes a copy of the CD.

Described by Sweden's national tabloid Expressen as "a perfect union of Front 242 and the B-52's," electronic punk group Cat Rapes Dog is back with their first album since 1999. The new album, dubbed Life Was Sweet, is the seventh Cat Rapes Dog studio release and first on label Artoffact. The band gets right to the point and stays true to their punk rock roots, rarely pausing and skipping all filler. The album clocks in at a "fits on vinyl" 35 minutes, but in this short space Cat Rapes Dog will tell you to go out and vote, give you a lesson in religion, and baffle you with a sense of humour all their own. Manic electronic synth lines meet over-the-top male and female vocals on nine tracks of pure DIY weird.

We expect this item to be in stock on September 17, 2013

Ministry - From Beer To Eternity (Limited 2LP Clear)

‘From Beer to Eternity’ is the 13th album of the US Industrial-legends! Their previous studio album ‘Relapse’ entered the charts all around the world. The new album will be released in 5 formats: standard CD, Digipak (+2 bonus tracks), 2 different Gatefold 2LPs (+ 1 bonus-track) & limited Fanbox! The Gatefold 2LPs (black & clear) will be limited to 500 units each, while the Fanbox is limited to 1000 worldwide and comes as a mini coffin including: the digipak, a rosary, prayer cards, prayer candle (with Ministry branding).

The CD was written last December (2012) prior to the death of the band's guitarist, Mike Scaccia. "This was one of the most creative MINISTRY tracking sessions ever. The band was on fire! We were having fun, we were coming up with great ideas and experimenting with everything we've ever wanted to do, from STONES-y blues to dub and, of course, heavy guitar-based rock. It was too easy. No fighting, no problems. Nothing goes that well without the floor eventually falling out." - MINISTRY mainman Al Jourgensen says. "It was the most emotionally difficult project I've ever done, but it was the most rewarding," Jourgensen continues. "Mikey was amazed with the songs when he was working on them, and I know he's looking down at us now and he's totally stoked with what we came up with."

Paul Butterfield Blues Band - Paul Butterfield Blues Band

When you count out the original Blues men from the United States, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band is arguably the finest example of raw Blues essence. With white harmonica player Butterfield at the center, the racially integrated group started as one of the first authentic and genuine Blues combos. They were the real deal – and paved the way for the upcoming Blues music movement in a in time when hit charts were still separated by colour of skin.

Their first and eponymous album from 1965 contains a mix of electric Chicago style Blues and Rock & Roll: raw, brazen and powerful, beautifully weaved together by Butterfields harmonica and scorching vocals. And more to their credit: the Paul Butterfield Blues Band single-handedly helped introduce more white listeners to the band's influences, such as Muddy Waters and B.B. King. On 180 gram audiophile vinyl.

Metal Church - Human Factor

Metal Church's 4th album is often cited as their best. Breaking through in the-mid eighties within a blossoming Thrash Metal scene, these guys from Seattle stuck to their guns while other bands were polishing their sound to meet popular demand.

The Human Factor (1991) excels in chugging riffs, melodic breaks, pulsing beats and furious vocals – a true Thrash classic. The lyrics stand out in their substance: singer Mike Howe tackles political and social subjects on "Date with Poverty," "Flee From Reality" and "The Final Word." On 180 gram audiophile vinyl

PSYCHIC TEENS - COME

Coming August 13th on CD/LP/CS/Digital via SRA Records

PSYCHIC TEENS are the loudest band from Philadelphia and play a hypnotic blend of gloom-ridden shoegaze, psychedelic post-punk and gothic noise rock with a touch of reverb soaked dramatic vocals. Formed in 2010, the band quickly released their debut album TEENS in 2011 to widespread critical acclaim. On their new album COME, the band expands their unique sound even further and will appeal to fans of Joy Division, A Place To Bury Strangers, Interpol, Bauhaus, Young Widows and everything in between.

COME was mastered by James Plotkin (Tim Hecker, Palms, Horseback) and features cover art by acclaimed Polish painter Aleksandra Waliszewska.

"Psychic Teens plies a simple modus operandi: a powerful and driving rhythm section creating the base and tether for screeching, noisy guitars and a talking / singing style that evokes similar ground to say Jim Morrison or Iggy Pop" - Scene Point Blank

Ask Mr. Music by Jerry Osborne

FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 15, 2013

DEAR JERRY: Years ago you addressed a strange word in the lyrics of "Moody River."

The conclusion then was that even though it clearly sounds like "the vainest knife," it makes very little sense.

A friend of mine has a different theory. He thinks it's veinist's knife, believing a veinist to be a regional or colloquial term for one who bleeds people for health reasons.

Thus the word would be a form of vein, not vain. If so, the knife would be sharp and the lyrics, to him, make sense.

Yet another friend disagrees, saying the veinist theory doesn't work because that person's knife would be aimed at doing good, not harm (i.e., "more deadly than the veinist's knife").

This man therefore votes for vainest, meaning the knife of a very vain person.
—Dave Leveton, Gainesville, Va.

DEAR DAVE & FRIENDS: I agree with Friend No. 2, and not just because he agrees with me.

The process of obtaining blood by intravenous access, be it for therapeutic reasons or for testing, can be done by many different health professionals, from staff nurses to phlebotomists and venipuncturists.

But nowhere do I find any references to such a thing as a veinist.

Also, vainest and veinist's are not exactly homophones, and no matter whose version you play you'll hear vainest.

Finally, and perhaps more importantly, every piece of sheet music I've seen for "Moody River" has "the vainest knife."

In order to have it make some sense, I assigned a personality to the knife. Might even give it a name.

DEAR JERRY: Occasionally you and your readers ask "how could this record not have been a hit." Well, I can't disagree with any of the songs that prompted that comment.

Now here is one I don't think you've ever discussed, and for my money it not being a hit is one of the mysteries of the universe: "School of Rock 'N Roll" by Gene Summers and His Rebels.

Did the record reviewers and programmers realize this would eventually be regarded as one of the greatest rock and roll records ever made?

Oh yeah, is there any connection between Gene Summers and the Tom Toms ("Big Blue Diamond") and Jac & Jay with the Tom Toms ("Monkey's Uncle")?
—Walter Tobin, Nanaimo, B.C.

DEAR WALTER: Obviously the media's collective crystal balls were foggy in 1958, at least with regard to the lofty status now enjoyed by "School of Rock 'N Roll."

However, the reviews at the time were relatively favorable.

Billboard, in their March 3, 1958 issue, included Gene's record among the week's 10 new releases most likely to be hits.

Both "School of Rock 'N Roll," and the flip side, "Straight Skirts," received better comments and higher ratings that week than Ed Townsend's "For Your Love" and Bill Haley's "Skinny Minny," and both of those wound up in the Top 25. "School of Rock 'N Roll" just never took off the way it seemed it would.

It wasn't helped much by being the first release for a brand new label (Jan 100). It would have been interesting to see how much better this, and some of Gene's other tunes, would have done on one of the major labels.

Summers' involvement with the Jac & Jay single is a bit more complicated than just he and they both being backed by some Tom Toms.

Realizing no one could explain this story any better than Gene Summers, and since he has often encouraged me to call him whenever I needed info, I did just that.

Interestingly, when I spoke with him (July 3) he was on his way to DFW to board a flight to London. He, Jack Scott, and Hayden Thompson are headlining "The Wildest Cat in Town Summer Weekend" in the UK. All three are members of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.

Here then is the scoop from Gene on the Jac & Jay record, issued in 1964:

"The A-side, "Monkey's Uncle" (Shane 47-2), is properly credited to Jac and Jay with the Tom Toms. Jac (Jack Castleberry) and Jay (James McClung II), along with Charlie Mendias; C.B. Williams; and Ernest Walker, were in fact all members of the Tom Toms, who backed me on other recordings. One of those was my best seller, "Big Blue Diamond" (Jamie 1273), also released in 1964.

"On the flip side, "Peanut Butter," I am featured, but the backing is by the same quintet (a.k.a., Tom Toms) heard on "Monkey's Uncle."

Even so, I am not identified. The label credits only Jac & Jay with the Tom Toms."

Travel safe old friend. I know you and Jack Scott will have those Brits rockin' in the aisles.

IZ ZAT SO? The Shane disc, with Gene only on one side, is valued in the $40 range, but a few of his other singles are a bit more pricey, especially these three 78s which were quite scarce even in 1958:

1958 "School of Rock 'N Roll" (Jan 7-100) $700
1958 "School of Rock 'N Roll" (Apex/Canada 76278) $200
1958 "Nervous" (Jan 102) $400

Beatles Pressing of the ‘White Album’ with lowest-possible number A0000001 Up For Auction At Heritage Auctions

One of the holy grails of record collecting, the Beatles first pressing ‘White Album’ with lowest-possible number A0000001 (Apple 101, 1968) is on the auction block at Heritage Auctions.  Most thought a copy of this magnitude would belong to one of the Beatles.  The opening bid has been set at $10,000.  Internet bidding ends on August 9, 2013 at 10:00 PM CT; followed by a Live Signature Floor Session on Aug 10, 2013.

According to Heritage Auctions:

"Our December 2012 Auction #7064, Heritage sold the White Album #A0000023 for $13,750 (Lot 46242) after quite a battle between seven bidders. How much more important is this offering? A MT 10 album sleeve with the number you never thought you'd get to see is now available to some lucky bidder. Included is the original poster and four individual photos along with a set of two EX 7 records (not original to this album). Also included is a very informative handwritten Letter of Authenticity dated April 2, 1989, from Clifford J. Yamasaki of Let It Be Records in San Francisco."

Got an extra $20,000-30,000 grand?  That's what I think it may go for (if not more!)

Tsurumi Records Releases Long-Awaited Vinyl Version of Film Soundtrack For Indie Horror Flick The Revenant

500 Limited Edition Vinyl Copies Now

Fangoria To Issue Vinyl SuperFan Packages

For Immediate Release - (Seattle, WA) – July 16, 2013 -The Revenant marks Seattle punk and garage rock imprint Tsurumi Record's first-ever soundtrack release. Staying true to the label's love for vinyl, Tsurumi Records will issue 500 limited edition vinyl copies of The Revenant on picture disc, with a subset specially packaged for horror fans through www.Fangoria.com. The vinyl package includes a picture disc (with main characters Bart and Joey on each side), CD in a sleeve, poster, and liner notes (retail $25). Witness the vinyl getting played here

“We are label focused on vinyl productions and this soundtrack is no different in that way,” enthuses label owner and Seattle resident Jeff Davis. “I've always been inspired by really good soundtracks, like Pulp Fiction and Clockwork Orange. We think fans of the movie will want these as collector items.”

In August Tsurumi Records will release a limited edition "Fangoria - The Revenant" box set.  It will feature a 1"x3" brass plate riveted to the lid of a classy black box numbered 1 through 50. The box will include the full vinyl package, a printed copy of the script signed by director Kerry Prior, an 8x10 movie still, a booklet with Fangoria's review of The Revenant and their 2 part interview with Kerry Prior, a T-Shirt and a few more surprises. The box set will be available for purchase exclusively tsurumirecords for $75.

The Revenant soundtrack features music from Tsurumi acts like garage punks The Beautiful Mothers and experimental rockers The Second Academy, international acts Aqualush and La Mala Rodriguez, classical music from two companies and even an appearance from seminal underground sensation The Shaggies.

Three years ago Davis' good friend and independent film maker Kerry Prior, approached him about collaborating on a soundtrack for The Revenant; a modern take on a classic horror story, which he wrote, directed and produced.

The childhood friends grew up together in Cleveland, OH listening to and playing punk rock.

The Revenant began its film festival run with a premier at the 2009 at Toronto's “After Dark” Fest, upon which they dubbed it one of the "10 Movies To See Before You Die." It later ran in theaters in 2012 and is now out on DVD. Reviews ranging from diverse sources such as The Newark Star-Ledger to DreadCentral.com declare it "sure to become a cult classic."

The film focuses on Second Lieutenant Bart Gregory (David Anders), who is killed under mysterious circumstances in Iraq only to find out that he didn't really die. Rather, he is undead: a zombie-vampire hybrid, known as the Revenant. Bart needs blood to hold back decomposition and he finds his way around his new state against the dark backdrop of downtown Los Angeles.

The Revenant appears to be moving towards that cult status with a solid underground and online fan base that is growing daily. Every cult classic needs a killer soundtrack and now fans of The Revenant won't have to wait any longer.

Universal Music’s vinyl subsidiary Uvinyl has launched "The Vinyl Project," a Kickstarter-like initiative that intends to repress rare and deleted records if enough buyers register their interest.  Funders of The Vinyl Project will become “owners of limited edition rare records, which will also include digital downloads and personalized art prints.”

Releases currently being considered for being made available to funders include ‘ABC’ by The Jackson 5, Sonic Youth’s ‘Goo’, Björk’s ‘Biophilia’, ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’ by Elton John, ‘His N Hers’ by Pulp, ‘Hysteria’ by Def Leppard, Cream’s ‘Disraeli Gears’, and Nirvana’s ‘MTV Unplugged’ performance.

Stay tuned for more details, it will be interesting to see what this becomes!

Genesis’ Debut Single Sells for $3,850

Ask Mr. Music by Jerry Osborne

FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 8, 2013

DEAR JERRY: In 1963, I bought a 45 titled "Dance, Romeo, Dance," by an unknown group called the Romeos. It is somewhat like the style of music the Drifters did at the time.

I heard it a few times on the radio that summer, and though it was soon gone, I still have my copy.

Backed with "A Lucky Guy," it is on the Vee-Jay label (VJ-494).

Flash forward 50 years, and I was scanning the Vee-Jay discography on GlobalDog.com, when I spotted release number 494 with the same two sides, but credited to the King-Pins.

Is this a mistake, or did Vee-Jay really change the name of the group? I know this can happen when somebody uses a name that someone else claims to own.
—Raymond Belker, Evansville, Ind.

DEAR RAYMOND: Global Dog is not mistaken, merely incomplete.

Vee-Jay did indeed issue the exact same recordings on both sides, using the same selection and identification numbers along with identical songwriting and production credits. Only the group name changed, not just twice but three times! They went from the King-Pins, to the Romeos, to the Winners.

Without any explanation to the media or the trades, Vee-Jay pressed this record three separate times, one right after the other, each time with a different group shown on the label.

The rarity and value factor matches that same order: King-Pins ($40), to the Romeos ($50), to the Winners ($65).

Not that another version was needed that year, but Alan Lorber, the arranger and conductor of the Vee-Jay 494 sessions, recorded an instrumental version (Kapp 523) of "Dance Romeo Dance" (without commas), creating a fourth possibility for those who want to "collect 'em all!"

A somewhat similar situation happened with "Memory Lane," first issued by the Stereos (1959), then by the Tams (1959), then again by the Tams (1963), and finally by the Hippies (1963) — and they're all the exact same recording.

DEAR JERRY: Last year, for the first time, I heard "Curtain Time" by the Dave Brubeck Quartet, and I had to have it. I found it on the 1957 Columbia LP, "Jazz Impressions of the U.S.A.," and for $50 it was mine. Is that a fair price?

The record shop manager said this was Brubeck's first album on the Billboard chart, which kind of surprised me since he started recording several years earlier.

How many albums did Dave and his group make before finally making the best-seller list?
—Bruce Welk, Salem, Ore.

DEAR BRUCE: You don't indicate the condition of "Jazz Impressions of the U.S.A.," but if it is even close to near-mint you did not overpay.

The answer to your second question comes with some fine-print, so let's get that out of the way.

Not until March 1967 did Billboard publish a separate chart for jazz albums. Coincidentally, ranked at No. 20 on that debut list of the 20 "Best Selling Jazz LPs" is "Dave Brubeck's Greatest Hits."

In earlier years, including when "Jazz Impressions of the U.S.A.," came out, jazz albums had to compete with ones by the top pop and rock performers, as well as the wildly popular original cast and soundtrack LPs.

Making the going even rougher for other formats is that the chart at that time listed the Top 15, plus four "Pop Albums Coming Up Strong." The latter list is similar to the Bubbling Under section for singles knocking at the door of the Hot 100, that began about two years later.

In the July 8, 1957 issue, "Jazz Impressions of the U.S.A." was in the Coming Up Strong group rather than the Top 15, putting it somewhere between 16 and 19. The following week, the quartet — Dave Brubeck (piano); Paul Desmond (sax); Norman Bates (bass) Joe Morelllo (drums) — and "Jazz Impressions of the U.S.A." simply disappeared.

Among the stars with a tight grip on the Top 15 that week are: Harry Belafonte; Pat Boone; Nat King Cole; Tennessee Ernie Ford; Elvis Presley; Tommy Sands; and Frank Sinatra. Joining them are albums of successful show tunes from "Around the World in 80 Days"; "My Fair Lady"; and "The King and I."

Before "Jazz Impressions of the U.S.A." (Columbia 984), Dave and the gang had 21 LPs on Fantasy (1951-1957) and seven for Columbia (1954-1957).

Over the next 10 years, in addition to adding more specialty surveys, the total number of chart spots for LPs gradually increased to 200, providing a more level playing field.

IZ ZAT SO? "Jazz Impressions of the U.S.A." may not have gone platinum or gold, like "Time Out Featuring Take Five" and "Dave Brubeck's Greatest Hits," but its catchy title made enough of an impression to inspire three more LPs in the series: 1958: "Jazz Impressions of Eurasia" (Columbia 8058); 1964: "Jazz Impressions of Japan" (Columbia 9012); and 1965: "Jazz Impressions of New York" (Columbia 9075).

Again, another opportunity to to "collect 'em all!"

Holly Golightly - Truly She Is None Other (Expanded Edition)

10 year anniversary re-issue of Holly's greatest album with 2 BONUS UNRELEASED tracks!

Collector's edition on RED vinyl and digipak CD

It's been out of stock for a while so we've decided to make this re-issue a little bit special. Often cited as perhaps her best solo album 'Truly She Is None Other' was recorded in 2002/3 at Toe-Rag Studios by Liam Watson and features the song 'Tell Me Now So I Know' which was picked for the main title theme for Jim Jarmush's 'Broken Flowers' movie.

Among the nine Holly originals the album features two Ray Davies songs ('Time Will Tell' & 'Tell Me Now So I Know'), along with 'There's An End', (penned by her friend Craig Fox from The Greenhornes.) There's also a fine version of Jessie Mae Robinson's 'Black Night', a song most famously covered by Muddy Waters.

Backed by the cream of Toe-Rag's in house musicians, this is Holly Golightly at her finest.
With sleeve notes by none other than Jack White III.

RE-ISSUE OF THE LEGENDARY DEBUT GORILLAS ALBUM FROM 1978

**FIRST TIME ON VINYL SINCE 1978**

LP on RED VINYL! (Ltd to 1000 copies)

CD first time on digipak!

The Gorillas livened up the mid-70s rock scene like few others.

They were the missing link between Hendrix, glam and punk.

Interest in Jesse Hector and The Gorillas (originally The Hammersmith Gorillas) has grown steadily in recent years in no small part due to Caroline Catz' documentary film, A Message To The World, the Gorilla Got Me compilation on Big Beat Records and the recent Crushed Butler albums re-released on Last Years Youth Records. The band also featured heavily in Wired Up!, last years' excellent book of proto-punk and glam record sleeves. Unavailable for some time, we're now re-issuing their debut album. On vinyl for the first time since 1978, our version features 3 BONUS TRACKS not featured on the original Raw Records release ("I'm Seventeen" "My Son's Alive" and the classic single "It's My Life".)

Legendary Rocker, Pete French, Teams With Ripple Music To Release New LEAF HOUND Album, Live In Japan

Late 60s/early 70s classic rock band LEAF HOUND is legendary.

And now the band's equally legendary frontman, Pete French, and the rest of LEAF HOUND has joined forces with Ripple Music to release an LP, CD, DVD project of all newly recorded live material -  Live in Japan.

Recorded live in July of 2012 in Tokyo, Live in Japan will see worldwide release later this year via Ripple Music. Look out world, LEAF HOUND has been unleashed once again!

"As good a rock album as you could hope to hear. (LEAF HOUND, 'Unleashed')" -Alastair Riddell, Kerrang!

"...a long-lost and quite wonderful doom-tinged hard rock band"  - Dave Ling, Classic Rock

"...rightful heirs to the Led Zep/Bad Company blues rock crown" - Pete Sargeant, Blues Matters

Few bands from the proto-metal period command the undying respect and nods of approval as does Leaf Hound.   Talk about a pedigree.  Leaf Hound formed in 1969 under their original name, Black Cat Bones. Early incarnations of the Black Cat Bones featured guitarist Paul Kossoff and drummer Simon Kirke who both left to form Free. Black Cat Bones issued one album then replaced their vocalist with perfect-wailer Peter French, Guitarist Rod Price departed soon after to join Foghat and French added his cousin Mick Halls on guitar.  With that change, Leaf Hound was born.

In 1970, Leaf Hound released the seminal album "Growers of Mushrooms" which has rightly been hailed as a bonafide classic of 70's British underground rock scene. Classic Rock magazine has raved that "Growers of Mushrooms" is one of the most influential pieces of music on the stoner rock, and the album has gained a reputation as being one of the true lost gems of the early British hard rock scene.   Original Decca vinyl copies on are one of the most rare collectable rock albums out there with prices soaring above £4,000!

After the band broke up, Peter French found himself in high demand. He has been the voice of Atomic Rooster, Cactus and Randy Pie as well as releasing an acclaimed solo album on Polydor, 'Ducks In Flight', which featured the likes of Micky Moody, Brian Robertson and Kenny Jones. But the legend of Leaf Hound wouldn't die.  Interest in the band took a seismic shift when the album was first re-released on CD in 1994, finally giving rock fans easy access to the buried treasure. It gained a second re-release in 2005. The music is a prime slice of classic 70's hard rock - a heady mix of Cream, The Who, Free, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.

Following intense public demand, Pete French put a new version of Leaf Hound together in the Spring of 2004, and in 2007 Leaf Hound released their first new album in decades,  'Unleashed' on the R.A.R.E/Repertoire label to highly positive critical acclaim. The opening track, '105 Degrees', was voted one of the top 100 rock tracks of 2007 by Classic Rock magazine. To launch the release of the album, they headlined the second night of the All Hallows Festival at London's Camden Underworld.

Now, the next chapter in the myth that is Leaf Hound unfolds as the band has joined the stalwart heavy rocking label, Ripple Music to unleash an all new set of killer live Leaf Hound onto the unsuspecting public.  Soon to be released on LP, CD and DVD formats, Ripple Music will bring to a whole new audience the legend that is Leaf Hound.  With a roster of classic proto-metal rockers that includes Poobah, JPT Scare Band, and Iron Claw, Ripple Music has already proven its ability to bring classic rocking bands to a modern audience.

LEAF HOUND is:

PETER FRENCH - VOCALS
LUKE RAYNER - GUITAR
PETER HERBERT - BASS
JIMMY ROWLAND - DRUMS

Free - Fire And Water

Free was one of the British bands that pioneered Hard Rock.  Despite a short life span, they were a huge influence bands such as Bad Company and Foreigner, thanks to their style of stripped-down British Blues.

Their follow up to Free [MOVLP415], Fire And Water, peaked at #17 in the album charts, carried by the classic Rock anthem "All Right Now" – which peaked at #4 in Billboard's Hot 100 in 1970. Paul Kossoff's guitar playing and Paul Rodger's incredible voice made Free one of the best bands around. Their revered legacy is justified with Music On Vinyl's 180 gram audiophile treatment.

Muddy Waters - More Real Folk Blues

This is Muddy in his younger years, recorded on several dates spanning 1948-1952 at what were probably his first amplified sessions.  Great tracks include the scorching "She's Alright", "Kind Hearted Woman" and "Honey Bee". More Real Folk Blues (originally released in 1967 on the famed Chess Records) is an essential early Muddy Waters compilation for Chicago Blues fans.

As the liner notes by Crawdaddy Magazine's Paul Williams state: 'Listening to Muddy Waters is as simple as forgetting your zip code; you just relax your mind, let go of the little things and let the blues come through, clean and easy. When Muddy sings, you feel the blues, and you feel the joy that goes with them.'.  On 180 gram audiophile vinyl !

Corrosion Of Conformity - Wiseblood

One of the most well-known Corrosion of Conformity albums, Wiseblood was their 5th full length release, peaking at #104 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart in the US in 1996.

The history of Corrosion of Conformity in modern heavy music is highly significant, not least due to Pepper Keenan's formation of Down along with Pantera's Philip Anselmo, leaders of the New Orleans NOLA scene.  A totally authentic heavy band and movement, COC naturally progressed from their thrashy, underground days to pushing the boundaries of what was classed as heavy music.  Decibel Magazine refer to COC as 'a crucial stylistic lynchpin in the bridge between metal and punk' that 'irrevocably re-shaped crossover's sonic possibilities.'.

Metallica's James Hetfield makes a guest appearance on this album, providing backup vocals on "Man Or Ash".
  • 180 gram audiophile vinyl
  • First 750 copies on black/ red splattered vinyl. Afterwards available on black vinyl.
  • Printed innersleeves
  •

Damn Yankees - Damn Yankees

Damn Yankees successfully delivered their unique blend of arena Rock well into the early nineties. They lived up to their name (or "Bad Reputation") as patriotic warriors defending the stars & stripes on and off stage.

The band, consisting of the inimitable Ted Nugent, Styx member Tommy Shaw and Night Ranger's Jack Blades, rocked stages with a vengeance. Their self-titled debut went platinum, carried by the hit charting power ballad "High Enough", the rocking opener "Coming Of Age" and "Runaway".

This is the first time Damn Yankees is reissued since its original release in 1990!  On 180 gram audiophile vinyl

50 Years Ago "Surf City" #1 On The Charts

In July 1963, "Surf City" by Jan and Dean hit #1 on the charts.

Surf City  was released in June of 1963, a song co-written ironically by Beach Boy Brian Wilson (and Jan Berry); whose band helped to define the genre (who released their debut LP Surfin' Safari on October 1, 1962)

The first draft of the song, with the working title "Goody Connie Won't You Come Back Home," was written by Brian Wilson.  He gave it to Jan Berry and Dean Torrence of Jan and Dean who finished writing and recording it with Wilson in the early 1960s.  Surf City" became the first surf song to reach #1 on theBillboard Hot 100 in 1963. The song also crossed to #3 on Billboard's R&B charts.

"Surf City" is one of a handful of Jan and Dean songs that used the group of leading studio musicians known as The Wrecking Crew. They included:

Billy Strange - guitar, arranger
Ray Pohlman - guitar, leader
Glen Campbell - guitar
Bill Pitman - bass
Hal Blaine - drums
Earl Palmer - drums
