Audio Fidelity To Release Barry White 'Can't Get Enough' Limited Numbered Edition 180g Vinyl On February 18, 2014

Camarillo, CA – Much to the excitement of Barry White fans worldwide, Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity is releasing a limited numbered edition 180g vinyl LP of soul legend Barry White's critically acclaimed 1974 masterpiece 'Can't Get Enough' on February 18, 2014! 'Can't Get Enough' made Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time! This is the first time Barry White's music has been given the audiophile treatment! It's also the first time the lyrics to all the vocals on the record are included, listed on the inside of the attractive glossy coated gatefold jacket.

By the time he hit his stride in 1974 with 'Can't Get Enough', Barry White had firmly established his vocal persona on the contemporary music scene. This is the third in his stellar run of album successes. The album topped the Billboard 200 and R&B charts and peaked at #4 in the UK.

Barry White's allure lay in his ability to craft beautiful love songs and embellish them with luxurious strings, a great rhythm section, and a gospel-styled female chorus. The combination is never more evident than on the classic title track as well as the song “You're My First, My Last, My Everything”, an anthem that appealed to White's pop audience. Both of these uptempo #1 chart-topping tracks were early echoes of the danceable, orchestrated funk stylings that became the sound of the disco era.

In addition to the hits, “I Can't Believe You Love Me” and “Oh Love, Well We Finally Made It” qualify as two of White's most fetching slow burners. The album is bordered by “Mellow Mood (Pts. 1 & 2)”, two brief orchestral instrumentals that showcase White's knack for layered arrangements.

TRACKS:
Side One
1. Mellow Mood (Pt. I)
2. You're the First, the Last, My Everything
3. I Can't Believe You Love Me

Side Two
1. Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe
2. Oh Love, Well We Finally Made It
3. I Love You More Than Anything (In This World Girl)
4. Mellow Mood (Pt. II)

TASMANIAN TIGER - A STRICTLY LIMITED EDITION 4-TRACK COLOURED VINYL 7” EP IN GATEFOLD SLEEVE PACKAGED WITH 4 TRACK CD

Marc Almond is back with a brand new 4-track EP, featuring a plethora of excellent ‘friends’ including Jarvis Cocker (Pulp) and Carl Barat (The Libertines, Dirty Pretty Things). Following the successful experience with double A single ‘Burn Bright/The Dancing Marquis’, legendaryproducer Tony Visconti (Bowie, T-Rex, The Moody Blues, Morrissey) is also back working alongside Marc.

Next to producer Tris Penna, Visconti lends a helping hand on string arrangements and mixing duties for the opening track, ‘Tasmanian Tiger’, and ‘Death of a Dandy’, the latter inspired by the recent death of Soho’s tragic artist Sebastian Horsley and featuring special guest Danielz from T-Rex tribute ‘T.Rextasy’. Jarvis Cocker brings to the mix an infectious electro-pop number he wrote for the occasion, ‘Worship Me Now’, where he also features on backing vocals and takes care of production with Jason Buckle (All Seeing I). Completing the excellent recording, ‘Love Is Not On Trial’ sees Almond continuing his collaboration with Carl Barat, his co-star in the 2012 opera ‘Poppea’ at Theatre du Chatelet in Paris. Produced again by Tris Penna, the song was written especially for Marc by Carl, who also features on guitar and vocals.

The eclectic 4 track EP is available on a strictly limited edition turquoise coloured 7" vinyl in a beautifully designed gatefold sleeve, complete with a CD of the same four songs.

New We Are Scientist Album On Vinyl

This is the group's fourth full-length. It was produced in New York by indie studio guru Chris Coady (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, Grizzly Bear, Beach House) and includes the previously issued EP cuts "Dumb Luck" and "Return the Favor," while "Courage" appears in its completed form following the prior demo.

In a statement, singer-guitarist Keith Murray explained of the album, "We wanted to get at the seemingly inevitable parallax that happens between two people in a relationship, that sense that you get the gist of what the other person needs and wants and how they feel about you, but only the gist — you're relying on these broad cues a lot of the time to tell you what the hell's going on."

new release from our friends at MusicOnVinyl

DAVE EDMUNDS - REPEAT WHEN NECESSARY

Welsh Rocker David William 'Dave' Edmunds successfully combined traditional Rhythm & Blues with Soul and Rockabilly. In the late Seventies he released a string of bestselling albums, following a distinct formula that combined the energy of Pub Rock with Rockabilly swing. Edmunds must have thought: 'don't fix what isn't broken', revealed by his 1979 album title: Repeat When Necessary.

Behind him are Rockpile, the band that Edmunds formed with famed musician Nick Lowe in the mid Seventies, along with Billy Bremner and Terry Williams. Playing solid, rockin' rhythms, the group provides a sturdy foundation for Edmunds' entertaining croon – Fifties vibe meets Seventies sound. Recommended for fans of Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe!

The LP was recorded and released at the same time as Nick Lowe's Labour Of Lust, with the same set of Rockpile musicians. Only the guest musicians differed per album. On Repeat When Necessary by Dave Edmunds, guest appearances were made by Huey Lewis, Albert Lee and Roger Bechirian.

While the record mainly consists of (obscure) cover tunes, two songs were later recorded by famous artists as "Girls Talk" (written by Elvis Costello) was recorded later that year by Elvis Costello & The Attractions, and "Bad Is Bad" (written by Huey Lewis) was recorded years later by Huey Lewis & The News.  180 gram audiophile vinyl and Insert

THELONIOUS MONK - SOLO MONK

Recorded in late 1964 and produced by Teo Macero, Solo Monk is the 8th album Thelonious Monk released for Columbia Records. As the title implies, this album consists purely of Monk's solo piano playing. He handles classic Pop standards like "Dinah" and "Sweet And Lovely", but beautifully executes his own compositions like the bluesy "North Of The Sunset", "Ruby, My Dear" and "Monk's Point". If there is any album to own by Thelonious Monk, Solo Monk is clearly it. On 180 gram audiophile vinyl !

Ulcerate - Vermis

Underground extreme metal heroes, Auckland, New Zealand’s ULCERATE make their Relapse debut with ‘Vermis’ a pummeling, brain twisting example of just how creative and challenging the death metal genre can still be, without becoming obtuse or arty. Combining truly original dark atmospheric guitar work with powerful, blastbeat driven drums, ‘Vermis’ achieve a wholly unlikely harmonization of Neurosis and Morbid Angel. ‘Vermis’ is a genuine affirmation of how thrillingly brilliant extreme metal can be—an instant classic of forward thinking death metal.

Ask Mr. Music by Jerry Osborne

FOR THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 3, 2014

DEAR JERRY: It seems that Sun Records from Memphis is regarded as one of the most significant and collectible labels of the rock era.

Truth is, off the top of my head I can only name three artists who had hits while recording for Sun: Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, and Elvis. Who are the others that got their start with Sun, and made one or more of the three main charts for singles?
—Adam Hutch, Covington, Ky.

DEAR ADAM: The impact and significance of Sun Records far outstrips whatever number of hit records they had.

However, as you're about to discover, Sun also shined in that department.

Of Sun's 226 singles (1952-1967), 36 appeared on the Pop & Rock (P&R), Country & Western (C&W), or Rhythm & Blues (R&B) charts.

Of those, 15 were simultaneously ranked on two surveys, and six turned up on all three, a very rare trifecta.

With all the crossover hits added, the total number of chart appearances jump up to 63.

Ergo, Sun's percentage of charted singles is about 28% of their total output, making them one of the leaders in this category, among all companies with 200 or more releases.

Any record label would be thrilled if roughly two out of every seven releases charted.

Not part of our equation, but impressive nonetheless, is that 15 of those 36 singles were double-sided hits.

Sun's singles began with number 174 (1952), and ended with 407 (1967), though there are eight numbers that were either mastered but not pressed, or simply an unused number. They are: 174; 176; 235; 252; 357; 383; 385; and 388.

Here are Sun's chart makers, in order of release with both sides shown for double-sided hits, followed by the artist's name and charts on which they appeared:

1953
181 "(The Answer to Hound Dog) Bear Cat" (Rufus "Hound Dog" Thomas Jr.) (R&B)
187 "Feelin' Good" (Little Junior's Blue Flames) (R&B)

1955
217 "Baby Let's Play House"/"I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone" (Elvis Presley) (C&W)
221 "Cry! Cry! Cry!" (Johnny Cash) (C&W)
223 "I Forgot to Remember to Forget"/"Mystery Train" (Elvis Presley) (C&W)

1956
232 "Folsom Prison Blues"/"So Doggone Lonesome" (Johnny Cash) (C&W)
234 "Blue Suede Shoes" (Carl Perkins) (C&W/P&R/R&B)
241 "I Walk the Line"/"Get Rhythm" (Johnny Cash) (C&W/P&R)
242 "Ooby Dooby" (Roy Orbison and the Teen Kings) (C&W/P&R)
243 "Boppin' the Blues" (Carl Perkins) (C&W/P&R)
249 "Dixie Fried"/"I'm Sorry, I'm Not Sorry" (Carl Perkins) (C&W)
258 "There You Go"/"Train of Love" (Johnny Cash) (C&W)

1957
261 "Your True Love" (Carl Perkins) (C&W/P&R)
266 "Next in Line"/"Don't Make Me Go" (Johnny Cash) (C&W/P&R)
267 "Whole Lot of Shakin' Going On" (Jerry Lee Lewis) (C&W/P&R/R&B)
268 "So Long I'm Gone" (Warren Smith) (P&R)
279 "Home of the Blues"/"Give My Love to Rose" (Johnny Cash) (C&W/P&R)
281 "Great Balls of Fire"/"You Win Again" (Jerry Lee Lewis) (P&R/C&W/R&B)

1958
283 "Ballad of a Teenage Queen"/"Big River" (Johnny Cash) (C&W/P&R)
288 "Breathless" (Jerry Lee Lewis) (P&R/C&W/R&B)
295 "Guess Things Happen That Way"/"Come in Stranger" (Johnny Cash) (C&W/P&R)
296 "High School Confidential" (Jerry Lee Lewis) (P&R/C&W/R&B)
302 "The Ways of a Woman in Love"/"You're the Nearest Thing to Heaven" (Johnny Cash) (C&W/P&R)
303 "Break-Up"/"I'll Make It All Up to You (Jerry Lee Lewis) (P&R/C&W)
309 "It's Just About Time" (Johnny Cash) (P&R/C&W)

1959
312 "I'll Sail My Ship Alone" (Jerry Lee Lewis) (P&R)
316 "Thanks a Lot" (Johnny Cash) (C&W)
321 "Katy Too" (Johnny Cash) (P&R/C&W)

1961
356 "What'd I Say" (Jerry Lee Lewis) (P&R/C&W/R&B)
364 "Cold Cold Heart" (Jerry Lee Lewis) (C&W)

1962
379 "Sweet Little Sixteen"/"How's My Ex Treating You" (Jerry Lee Lewis) (P&R)

Here are the individual artist totals: Johnny Cash (17); Jerry Lee Lewis (9); Carl Perkins (4); Elvis Presley (2); and one each for Rufus Thomas Jr.; Little Junior's Blue Flames (Junior Parker); Roy Orbison and the Teen Kings; and Warren Smith.

LIARS NEW ALBUM 'MESS' OUT March 25th, 2014

LIARS (Angus Andrew, Aaron Hemphill and Julian Gross) release the first single from their new album, “Mess On A Mission,” on March 18th, 2014.

The single comes backed with remixes from Silent Servant (Sandwell District / Hospital Productions), SFV Acid (UNO / 100% Silk), Black Bananas (Jennifer Herrema of Royal Trux / RTX / Drag City) and young Melbourne based collective Nest Of Teens.

Listen to Silent Servant's mix HERE

“Mess On A Mission acknowledges some of the modern day issues of uncertainty, of being overwhelmed with possibilities, too many choices and it vocalises them. It’s cathartic and a more positive spin on something our music has always dealt with: anxiety”

The new album, Mess, will be released on March 25th on CD, double vinyl, download plus an extra special limited edition vinyl, which sold out in less than 24 hours.

Mess is the follow up to 2012’s WIXIW, the sound of a band in an ambiguous, fragile in-between state. Mess, on the other hand, is Liars with their balls out – an angry, ecstatic, primal burst of ritualistic electronics that sacrifices self-persecution for potent, purposeful abandon.

Watch the trailer for the new album HERE

Liars' career has seen the band rattle through pigeonholes in an attempt to avoid them all together: brittle yet taught punk funk; liminal no-wave; ecstatic noise-pop; 21st-century garage rock; post-millennial post-rock; delicate electronics; reaching here, where Angus Andrew, Aaron Hemphill and Julian Gross now find themselves – maybe not quite at ease with the world, but staring it straight in the eye while showing their teeth.

American Hustle Soundtrack (Pre-Order) by Various Artists

Like Goodfellas and Boogie Nights before it, American Hustle's music celebrates the epic feel of '70s pop, rock, and disco and uses it to give its story extra heft. David O. Russell's tale of con men, Feds, and the mob has a lighter touch than either of those two movies, however, and this is reflected in the soundtrack's song choices. More than a few of these tracks are by Electric Light Orchestra as well as Jeff Lynne on his own, and the whimsical yet driving sound of "10538 Orchestra," "Long Black Road," and "Stream of Stars" lends a tongue-in-cheek tone supported by Tom Jones' "Delilah" and Chris Stills' "Live to Live." The album touches on some of the decade's definitive songs (Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," Wings' "Live and Let Die," Donna Summer's "I Feel Love") but never sounds like a prepackaged hits-of-the-'70s collection, due in large part to unique choices like Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes' gritty version of "Don't Leave Me This Way" and Mayssa Karaa's otherworldly Arabic interpretation of Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit," which is so striking that it's one of the finest songs on an album packed with big names. A nuanced and playful soundtrack, American Hustle works well as a companion piece to the movie that spawned it and on its own.  - Heather Phares (All Music Guide)

Tracklist:

1. Jeep's Blues - Duke Ellington
2. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (Album Version) - Elton John
3. White Rabbit (Arabic Version) - Mayssa Karaa

Dark Side Of The Moon (40th Anniversary Edition)

Pink Floyd's most successful and singularly defining album is here to stay. The Dark Side of the Moon has sold over 40 million copies worldwide since its release in 1973, and it shows no signs of letting up. With lush, immaculate production and sweeping instrumentals, The Dark Side of the Moon is unrivaled in sonic brilliance. The complex textures found within have captivated audiophiles for over thirty years.

With lyrics about seemingly mundane details set against dreamy, atmospheric backdrops, the songs on The Dark Side of the Moon achieve a truly emotional response. Performances are not virtuosic, but they are brilliant nonetheless and were likewise brilliantly recorded. Abbey Road Studios engineer Alan Parsons and Pink Floyd made use of some of the most advanced techniques available at the time to craft a sound that was innovative yet entirely classic, by any sense of the word. Swirling organs, mellow drums, and spacious guitars are signature sounds that have been inextricably linked with Pink Floyd's magnificent songwriting.

The Dark Side of the Moon is a peerless entry in the annals of classic rock history. No record collection should be without this multi-platinum masterpiece.

Remastered by James Guthrie, and artwork by Storm Thorgerson. Ranked 43/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Band Of Horses “Acoustic At The Ryman” out Next Week!

SRC have posted a last minute addition to next weeks release schedule! This one is an acoustic album from Band of Horses “Acoustic At The Ryman”. The album features 10 acoustic versions from various Band of Horses songs.

ACOUSTIC AT THE RYMAN, is a 10-song virtual greatest hits set of acoustic renditions of songs from across the Band Of Horses catalog, recorded at Nashville's legendary Ryman Auditorium over two magical nights in April 2013. Having captured this two-night stands worth of singular performances that the Nashville Scene said -brought to mind the best efforts of Eagles and Crosby, Stills and Nash,- BOH set about translating the energy and electricity of the Ryman document into the closest possible experience to having been there. ACOUSTIC AT THE RYMAN is one of a mere handful of non-classical/jazz albums mixed and mastered in the DSD format, capturing the ragged magic of an unforgettable performance in dangerously pristine quality. The recording was mixed down to DSD through Mytek converters and mastered from DSD by Bob Ludwig at Gateway using the Mytek 8Z192 ADDA. It was then transferred from DSD to 180 gram vinyl by Doug Sax at The Mastering Lab

Depeche Mode Catalog Reissued On Vinyl

'Enjoy the silence!' Yes, that's right, throughout this winter and spring BMG, in partnership with Music On Vinyl, will reissue the back catalog of Depeche Mode on vinyl.

Started back in 1980, Depeche Mode quickly made a name for themselves in the world of Pop, Rock, New Wave and Electronic music. Still selling out arenas all over the world, Dave Gahan, Martin Gore and Andrew Fletcher are responsible for one of the most unique catalogues in popular music.

From their debut album Speak & Spell through last year's Delta Machine, the band never plays by the book and always stays true to themselves. This has resulted in major hit singles like "Just Can't Get Enough", "People Are People", "Master And Servant", and "Walking In My Shoes", and culminated in the album Violator that produced massive worldwide hits like "Enjoy The Silence" and "Personal Jesus".

Starting on February 3rd with the albums Some Great Reward, Music For The Masses, Songs Of Faith And Devotion and Black Celebration, the trail of releases continues on March 24 with A Broken Frame, Ultra, Construction Time Again and Violator and ends on May 28 with Speak And Spell, Exciter, Playing The Angel and Sounds Of The Universe.

The albums will come in glossy gatefold sleeves with thick slabs of 180 gram black audiophile vinyl, all containing inserts and liner notes.

GRAND FUNK RAILROAD - LIVE -THE 1971 TOUR

In 1971, Grand Funk Railroad were the pinnacle of American Rock 'n Roll, selling out arenas of ecstatic fans all over the United States. This no-nonsense band from Michigan defined the sound of early working class Hard Rock groups with their over-the-top sound, Mark Farner's heavy riffing, hard-hitting bass lines of Mel Schacher and intricate funky drums of Don Brewer.

The Live: The '71 Tour recordings were made during ecstatic performances in Chicago, Detroit and New York's Shea Stadium. Highlights include the 15-minute Animals cover "Inside Looking Out", taking up the whole C-side, a blistering cover of The Stones' "Gimme Shelter" and the Grand Funk classic "Footstompin' Music".

What's more; this release has never been issued on vinyl before!

VIOLENT FEMMES - 3

These Milwaukee rockers were the sound of troubled adolescent America in the '80s, releasing great albums filled with teenage angst en rebellious behaviour. After a three year period of absence, the group resurfaced in 1989 with 3, their fourth album.

Reconnecting with their original fanbase but expanding on their sound at the same time, 3 was the result of a band that was growing in their ambition and artistry. Gordon Gano, Brian Ritchie and Victor DeLorenzo called in the help of Peter Balestrieri on baritone sax and Sigmund Snopek II on keys. We've included a lyric sheet for good measure.

Pre-Order Pillar Point Pillar Point CD/LP/Tape

On Pillar Point's self-titled debut album, the moody, melancholy electronica is the work of Throw Me the Statue founder Scott Reitherman.

Far more intimate than anything he's done previously, Reitherman's personal struggles add lyrical depth to dance floor-ready beats and textures that "...[splice] M83 and Washed Out with glorious results" (The Line of Best Fit).

You'll certainly agree with this description after checking out a few tracks, including "Eyeballs," "Cherry," and "Diamond Mine," via  Soundcloud.

Pre-orders for Pillar Point will be shipping soon, so pick up a copy of the Early Bird Edition 180-Gram Yellow vinyl (limited to 300).

The album, which is also available on CD and black tape, hits stores February 25.

cool project:

BANDS TO MELT PLASTIC TOY GUITARS INTO VINYL RECORDS

Norwegian rock bands Bigbang, Raga Rockers, Skambankt, Rumble in Rhodos and Atlanter have all teamed up for a pretty unique project. The bands share the notion that there are too many plastic toy guitars around today, but not enough vinyl releases.

Under the moniker Guitars need Heroes, the bands and leading Scandinavian retailer of musical instruments and music equipment 4Sound offer music lovers to donate plastic toy guitars, like the ones supplied with Guitar Hero and Rock Band games, which in turn will be melted into new vinyl releases.

The aim of the project is to encourage aspiring guitarists to start out with real six strings rather than plastic buttons on a fake guitar. Plastic guitar donors are offered substantial discounts on real guitar purchases at the 4Sound stores. The project also includes a vinyl release with all participating bands.

These unique records, all of which will be pressed by Northern Record Pressing, will be limited to 1,000 numbered copies on one sided transparent gray vinyl with multi-coloured splatter from the crushed up plastic toy guitars. The vinyl also includes a booklet with complete lyrics and guitar chords for all the songs.

Raga Rockers – Desperado Bigbang – Magic Hour Skambankt – Voodoo Rumble in Rhodos – Eternal Seesaw (Live) Atlanter – Kaktos
