Hooded Menace - Effigies Of Evil Deluxe 2xLP (Orange with Exclusive 7")

Finland’s doom/death-lords Hooded Menace make their Relapse debut with ‘Effigies of Evil’, a brutally ripping album of slow-paced, down-tuned ultra-heaviness. Combining the grooving riffs of Black Sabbath and early Cathedral with the fire of classic Autopsy and Asphyx, ‘Effigies Of Evil’ is an instant metal classic. ‘Effigies Of Evil’ is the peak combination of Hooded Menace’s fascination with classic 90s death metal, prototypical 70s doom and cult horror flicks-----a collection of obsessions that any heavy-music fan proudly wears for life. ‘Effigies of Evil’ is a triumphant album of filth, sludge, riffs and groove that transforms cult heroes Hooded Menace into legitimate heavy metal icons.

Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah - Bikini Kill

Bikini Kill Records is excited to announce our second reissue - the newly expanded Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah LP featuring seven previously unreleased tracks. It will be released on April 15th, 2014.

The first 500 copies ordered will receive a free, limited edition poster.

Side A of Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah was originally released in 1993 as the BK side of their split record with the UK’s Huggy Bear, to kick off their legendary co-headlining tour of the UK in March of that year. Those tracks were recorded in their Washingon DC basement practice space on a 4 track reel to reel in 1992 by Tim Green (Nation of Ulysses, The Fucking Champs).

Side B features seven songs either recorded live at shows during that era or at Bikini Kill practices.

The LP also includes new photos and liner notes from David Feck (Comet Gain), Erin Smith (Bratmobile), and from the band themselves.

The LP was mastered by TJ Lipple and Bob Weston.

Pre-order includes digital album in the high-quality format of your choice (MP3, FLAC, and more), plus unlimited mobile access using the free Bandcamp listening app. You'll also get the complete album the moment it’s released.

Shipping out on or around 15 April 2014

PolyVinyl Test Pressing Sale -- 15 Titles Being Offered

Making CDs is predictable. You send a master off to the duplication plant and wait for thousands of shiny, identical discs to arrive.

Vinyl is a very different beast. Making a record is an intricate process that starts with the creation of a master lacquer, which is then plated in metal and used to make a negative version of the record, called a stamper, that serves as the basis for mass production.

During this chain of events something can always go wrong --- causing pops, skips, crackles or distortion. You name it, we've heard it many times over.

Which brings us to test pressings, a very necessary part of the vinyl production process that helps catch these sorts of problems before all of the records are manufactured.

By their very nature, test pressings are rare and unique. They're the first taste we receive of each album on vinyl and only a small number are ever made, making them sought after by fans and collectors.

In fact, one of the most frequently asked questions we receive year after year is "Hey fine folks at PV, do you have any test pressings for sale?"

The sad truth is, after a few test pressings are given to PV bands as keepsakes, the remaining copies just sit on a shelf in the dark recesses of our office.

And so, for a limited time, we're giving you the opportunity to bid on these special items and support a great cause (American Humane Association) at the same time!

A variety of titles are being offered in the hope that you see something you like and enjoy the chance to own a special piece of a treasured album.

Titles include:

31Knots The Days and Nights of Everything Anywhere LP
Aloha Here Comes Everyone (Record Store Day Edition) LP
Architecture In Helsinki Places Like This LP
Braid Frankie Welfare Boy Age Five 2xLP
Deerhoof Deerhoof vs. Evil LP

Vinyl Record News & Music Notes

from our friends at PolyVinylRecords

Polyvinyl Record Store Day Releases Announced

1. of Montreal - Satanic Panic in the Attic 10 Year Anniversary Reissue

Featuring favorites such as “Disconnect the Dots,” “Lysergic Bliss,” and “Chrissy Kiss the Corpse,” of Montreal’s breakthrough album Satanic Panic in the Attic marked a slight departure from the band’s previous sound due to influences ranging from 1970’s Afro beat to 80’s New Wave.

To celebrate this beloved record’s 10-year anniversary, Satanic Panic in the Attic has been re-mastered for vinyl and is being pressed on 180-gram yellow & light blue wax (limited to 2,000) with a second disc featuring seven additional tracks recorded during the same era. This deluxe double LP re-issue comes packaged in a gatefold jacket that restores the interior artwork to its original full-color design.

2. of Montreal - Jigsaw Puzzle 7"

On their latest full-length Lousy with Sylvianbriar, of Montreal adopted a new songwriting approach (writing retreat in San Francisco), a different recording method (direct to 24-track tape machine), and a fresh group of musicians. Inspired by Dylan, the Stones, Neil Young, and more, Paste declared the record “[a] stunning re-imagining of Barnes' songwriting prowess.”

“Jigsaw Puzzle” was recorded during the same sessions that produced Lousy with Sylvianbriar and is now available as a limited edition 7" for Record Store Day 2014 (limited to 1,500 on light green vinyl). An alternate version of Lousy with Sylvianbriar track “Triumph of Disintegration” is featured on the B-side.

3. Xiu Xiu - Unclouded Sky

During the summer of 2013, Xiu Xiu frontman Jamie Stewart and producer Shahzad Ismaily traveled to Sigur Rós’s personal studio in Iceland. Having access to the space for only one day, Stewart worked on setting down his interpretations of American and Caribbean spirituals using a 1953 Silvertone guitar given to him by his father (producer Michael Stewart), the man who introduced him to religious thought and folk music.

The resulting album, Unclouded Sky, explores themes of death and faith over the course of nine songs originally composed between 1850 and 1920, which are interspersed with field recordings Stewart made in the jungle of Guyana.

Unclouded Sky will be available on 180-gram "cloud colored" vinyl (limited to 1,000).

4. The Dodos - Yours Truly Session 7"

In the fall of 2013, San Francisco-based duo The Dodos reconvened at John Vanderslice’s Tiny Telephone studio (where they recorded their latest full-length Carrier) to re-visit two songs in collaboration with the Magik*Magik Orchestra. Featuring beautiful new arrangements, these special performances of “Substance” and “The Ocean” were captured on film by music website Yours Truly and are now available on yellow vinyl (limited to 1,000) for the first time via this one-time pressing.

5. Saturday Looks Good To Me - Love Will Find You

Love Will Find You was originally released in 2002, but it's never been available on vinyl through retail stores...until now! This classic SLGTM title will now be available on red vinyl (limited to 500) with hand silkscreened jackets from the original artwork.

6. Saturday Looks Good To Me - Saturday Looks Good To Me

Saturday Looks Good To Me's self-released debut album from 2000 was a lo-fi four track take on reinterpreting Motown and oldies radio through a murky crust of noise.

Though the recording finds the project in it's most experimental larval stages, the sparkle and excitement of these earliest basement incantations comes through loud and clear, and many of the songs here became fan favorites as the band grew. The album will now be available for the first time on vinyl through retail stores as an expanded 14-song edition on blue vinyl w/ hand silkscreened jackets from the original artwork (limited to 500).

Aloud Releases "It's Got to Be Now"

It's Got To Be Now, as it was meant to be heard! Limited edition pressing of Aloud's fourth album on individually hand-pressed 12" vinyl. Digital download includes bonus track, "You Will Know".

Pre-order includes immediate download of 1 track in the high-quality format of your choice (MP3, FLAC, and more), plus unlimited mobile access using the free Bandcamp listening app. You'll also get the complete album the moment it’s released.

Hailing from Boston, MA, pop-infused rock 'n roll outfit Aloud blends throaty lead vocals with spine-tingling male/female harmonies accompanied by infectious grooves and hard-hitting riffs.  Henry Beguiristain (lead vocals/guitar) and  Jen de la Osa (lead vocals/guitar)  have been writing songs together since they were teenagers, developing a sound reminiscent of Alabama Shakes, Dr. Dog, Fitz and the Tantrums, The Black Keys, and The Love Language.  They moved from their hometown of Miami, FL to Boston, founded Aloud, and began touring extensively in early 2008 to support their album Fan The Fury. It was during this time their constant rhythm section departed due to conflicting priorities, but in 2009, Aloud welcomed aboard Charles Murphy (bass/backing vocals). In 2010, Aloud released the folkier-edged Exile and toured the U.S. coast-to-coast to promote it, rocking major venues like  Paradise Rock Club (Boston), Mercury Lounge (NYC), The Double Door (Chicago), and Exit/In (Nashville).  Frank Hegyi (drums/percussion) joined as Aloud’s drummer in early 2012, and the four feature their refined, songwriting sensibilities on their forthcoming album It’s Got To Be Now, out 4/1/14.

Earning nominations by the Boston Phoenix for best vocalist and Best Indie Band Aloud is always a crowd favorite. Their audiences can speak volumes about the band’s energetic connection with their fans and passionate stage performance.

Peter Walker - “Second Poem To Karmela" Or Gypsies Are Important

Light In The Attic and the legendary folk/blues/roots label Vanguard Records are proud to begin a series of collaborations under the umbrella Vanguard Vault. The series will explore the vaults of Vanguard and see the reissuing of obscure nuggets, psychedelic weirdness and just some good old-fashioned seminal music.

Originally released in 1968 on Vanguard Records, Peter Walker’s album “Second Poem To Karmela” Or Gypsies Are Important was a ground breaking blend of folk, raga, psychedelia, Eastern and Modal sounds that has remained unsung for decades. While his debut album for Vanguard, Rainy Day Raga, has been reissued several times on LP and CD, this album (his sophomore effort), remains an obscure and hard to find vinyl relic. Until now….

Carefully re-mastered from the original tapes, guitar scholar Glenn Jones recently interviewed Peter Walker for hours and has written a book-deep essay for the CD and LP liner notes that detail Walker’s association with an incredible cross-section of 1960’s counter-culture icons including LSD guru Timothy Leary (Walker personally provided ‘the soundtrack’ to many a trip), he studied raga music with Ali Akbar Khan, and like his close friend Sandy Bull, Walker worked on a fusion of Western and Eastern sounds. Jim Pepper plays flute on Second Poem (he also recorded with The Fugs and Don Cherry), other accompaniment to Walker’s guitar, Sarod and Sitar playing includes violin, organ, tablas, and tamboura.

This is true “acid folk” as interesting, progressive, and memorable as fellow 1960’s world travelers Robbie Basho, Davy Graham, and the Incredible String Band.

•Remastered from the original stereo 1/4" tapes
•LP and CD feature expanded gatefold tip-on jackets and liner notes
•ON-LINE ONLY: First 150 pre-orders get limited pressing on PEACH wax! Don’t sleep! (LIMIT ONE PER CUSTOMER)

KYNG LAUNCH PRE-ORDER BUNDLES AND RELEASE COVER ART FOR NEW STUDIO ALBUM BURN THE SERUM AT MERCHNOW

Burn The Serum To Be Released On April 15th On Razor & Tie

(New York, NY) – Southern California rock trio KYNG has officially launched pre-order bundles for their forthcoming new studio album, Burn The Serum, at MerchNow Bundles include CD, vinyl and variety of t-shirts and hoodies.

Burn The Serum will be released on April 15th through Razor & Tie. The album was produced by Andrew Alekel (Foo Fighters, No Doubt, Queens of The Stone Age, Clutch) and James A. Rota (Sound City, Fireball Ministry) and was recorded at Grandmaster Recorders LTD and Sword & Shield in Hollywood, CA as well as at Studio 606 in Northridge, CA.

On their second full-length album and first for Razor & Tie, the band harks back to the essence of heavy rock 'n' roll, forging thunderous percussion to lightning hot riffs driven by a divine vocal howl. At the same time, they keep their eyes wide open towards the future. KYNG find grandiosity in simplicity. The Los Angeles outfit may only boast three members—Eddie Veliz [vocals/guitar], Pepe Clarke [drums], and Tony Castaneda [bass/backup vocals]—but their collective roar could easily tip the Southern California Richter Scale.

Formed in 2008, KYNG broke out of the City of Angels in 2011 with the group's independent debut Trampled Sun.  The album landed shining critical acclaim for its "California Heavy" sound merging the metallic meanderings of Soundgarden and Queens of the Stone Age with the timeless scope of Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. They hit the road with everybody from The Sword and Clutch to Trivium and Megadeth—even being picked to play at Metallica's first-ever Orion Music + More festival. Loudwire raved, “a hard hitting fusion of rocking goodness,” and Ultimate-Guitar added, “if they keep churning out records as good as Trampled Sun, they will be mentioned right up there with Mastodon and the like.”

The band's entire Metal Blade discography: "To Serve Man" (2002), "Humanure" (2004), "Karma.Bloody.Karma" (2006), "The Harvest Floor" (2009), and "Monolith of Inhumanity" (2012) are all being prepared in lavish gatefolds for release. new releases from our friends at MusicOnVinyl

ELVIS PRESLEY - ELVIS 56

Elvis 56 – originally released in 1996 – is a compilation of studio master recordings made by Elvis Presley in 1956. The sessions on this LP took place at RCA Studios in Nashville and New York, as well as at Radio Recorders in Hollywood.

Made up of the hottest tunes from The King's first year at RCA, Elvis 56 is the definitive rock 'n' roll album, including "Heartbreak Hotel", "Blue Suede Shoes", "Hound Dog" and "Rip It Up". The digitally remastered album also includes an insert with rare photos and full recording data.
  • 180 gram audiophile vinyl
  • 4 page insert
  • Printed innersleeve
  • Remastered

TONY JOE WHITE - BLACK & WHITE

Released in 1969, Black And White contains some of the best swamp-folk-soul-funk of the era. Hailing from the soggy marshlands of Louisiana, Tony Joe White is nothing but the real thing, his deep voice sounding like it's dredged from the bottom of the swamps itself.

His catchy songs are chock full of witty, sometimes even funny lyrics on rural life in the Dirty South, accompanied by a strong and funky backing band. White tackles cover versions of Johnny Taylor's hit "Who's Making Love" and O.C. Smith's "Little Green Apples", as well as his own material like "Soul Francisco" and his major U.S. hit, "Polk Salad Annie".

Highly recommended for fans of Creedence Clearwater Revival, J.J. Cale and sixties Soul!  180 gram audiophile vinyl

UNCLE TUPELO - NO DEPRESSION

No Depression is cited as one of the most important albums in the alternative country genre. Due to the impact of the album on alternative country, the term 'No Depression' is sometimes used as a synonym for the genre. The album helped kick start a revolution which reverberated throughout the American underground. In 1999, Spin Magazine listed the album as one of the Top 90 Albums of the 90s.

The album's punk attitude, featuring heavy guitars combined with mandolins, fiddles, and banjos, was the brainchild of singers/songwriters Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy. Their lyrical depictions of rural, blue-collar life paint grim portraits of Midwestern existence as life in the twilight zone, split between days working in the factory ("Factory Belt") and nights spent blurry-eyed and wasted ("Whiskey Bottle," "Before I Break").  180 gram audiophile vinyl

BOOKER T AND THE MG'S - SOUL DRESSING =MONO=

When Booker T. Jones and his Memphis Group, or Booker T. & The MGs in short as they're actually known, are playing no one stops to figure out whether their music is Pop, R & B or Jazz. They just know it's good music.

Originally released in 1965, Soul Dressing confirmed why the outfit made a name for itself in the aforementioned fields. The LP includes several of their best selling records such as "Soul Dressing" and "Jellybread". It's no coincidence that so many of their song titles refer to food (their biggest hit, "Green Onions", comes to mind as well), as the MG's simply love good food as much as they do good music. So, please go heavy on the soul dressing!  180 gram audiophile vinyl Mono edition

Black Sabbath To Reissue Early Albums

Ask Mr. Music by Jerry Osborne

FOR THE WEEK OF MARCH 3, 2014

DEAR JERRY: I know it was common in the 1950s and '60s for someone to write words to go with most of the instrumental hits. Quite often, both the instrumental and the vocal became very popular.

I'd like to see a list of some of the hits recorded both ways, but only ones from those two decades.

I don't expect to see them all, but do the best you can in the space allotted.
—Tanner Redding, Palm Springs, Calif.

DEAR TANNER: Here we go again, creating another list that, to the best of my knowledge, does not yet exist.

Here is the format:

Instrumental titles are alphabetical, followed by the artist. If that year differs from the vocal, it will be before the hyphen. When both have the same year, it will be shown only once, at the end of the line.

To the right of the hyphen may be a vocal title, which is only necessary if different than the instrumental title. Next is the vocal credit and year, for either the vocal, or for both if the year is the same.

Neither the time of issue nor chart success affects the layout. Instrumentals are always listed first.

Only singles qualify, and both releases must be from the 1950s or '60s.

Many versions exist for most of these tunes, but we can list only one per. I chose what I feel are the most appropriate entries for this specific project.

"All My Loving": Hollyridge Strings - Beatles (1964)

IZ ZAT SO? I wouldn't blame you if a couple of these entries had you questioning my sagacity, specifically "Honky Tonk" and "The Horse."

With these two, fittingly back-to-back alphabetically, the same artist is credited on both the instrumental and vocal versions of the songs.

The two waxings of "Honky Tonk" are on two separate records, the vocal — actually by Tommy Brown — being issued while the instrumental was still on the charts.

"The Horse" became a monster hit quite by accident.

The intended A-side was "Love Is All Right, and the entire session was about getting this tune just the way they wanted it.

As the end of their studio time drew near, they came up with a plan to save time and money. Just eliminate the Cliff's vocal track from "Love Is All Right," and let the instrumental track be on the B-side. Then name it something that seemingly has nothing to do with anything, such as "The Horse."

Makes sense, but fate had other plans. Dee jays liked the instrumental side much better, and "The Horse" trotted off to the winner's circle.

Vinyl Record News & Music Notes

Record Store Day releases from our friends at Sundazed

Link Wray - Slinky / Rendezvous 7" Single

Taut and tough Wray from his heyday! One of the original heavy metal heroes, Link Wray basically invented power chord riffing—both Jimmy Page and Pete Townshend have credited their interest in becoming axe gods to him—and his recordings are a monument to the relentless influence of his unique razor-blade extended guitar sound. “Slinky,” from 1959, was the his third Epic Records single, a mysterious, stinging riff that builds into a frenzied solo, then coolly resolves…the perfect soundtrack for a gang of leather-jacketed teenagers looking for trouble on a warm city night! “Rendezvous” suggests gentler side of Wray, beginning as a mellow midtempo cha-cha, but ultimately evolving into a snarling stroll with a killer guitar solo. Backed on both sides by the sympathetic swagger of Wray’s brothers Doug and Vernon, these two recordings show a key personality in the development of rock ’n’ roll, at a time when record labels continually wanted to soften him and make him safe, continuing to follow his metal muse and lay down recordings that would inspire thousands of rock, punk and surf guitarists for decades to come. Features a reproduction of the ultra-rare original picture sleeve, and promotional labels—get this Wray today!

•Reproduction of the ultra-rare original picture sleeve and original Epic promo labels!
•Limited edition for Record Store Day 2014!
•Mastered from the original reels!

The Standells - Dirty Water / Twitchin' 7" Single

The Standells are one of the most successful of all garage rock bands, with their signature song "Dirty Water" having been a huge nationwide hit in the sultry summer of 1966! True fathers of punk rock, they were touring later that year to support the success of their hit record when they were professionally captured on tape opening up for the Beach Boys at a University of Michigan performance as they served up a raucous, raw live helping of their most famous record—now featured on this limited edition that puts you as close to a mid-’60s frat fuzz party as you can get! “Dirty Water” is a tireless anthem, a song for the hip-and-happening whose legacy shines in this rare recording. Also includes “Twitchin’,” a previously unissued 1963 instrumental from the group’s earliest days, predating their first record. Plus, recollections about both recordings from original member Larry Tamblyn, housed in a picture sleeve featuring rare photos that evokes the look and feel of 1966. Live and raw energy from the legendary Standells—on clear vinyl!

•Live 1966 punk in action—professionally recorded!
•Picture sleeve with rare photos and new notes by the Standells' Larry Tamblyn!
•Record Store Day 2014 limited edition on clear vinyl!

The Sunrays - Our Leader / Won't You Tell Me 7" Single

When the Beach Boys fired their manager-father Murry Wilson in 1964, he recruited a young group — the Sunrays — to mentor as he had his own children. The ’Rays took on sun, fun and girls in songs like “I Live For the Sun” and “Andrea”—heavily influenced by Brian Wilson's rich, intricate production work for the Beach Boys—which became huge regional hits. As a thank you, the Sunrays wrote and recorded “Our Leader” for Murry, a heartfelt tribute to one of rock music’s most storied personalities. Presented to Wilson on Christmas Eve 1965, the track is as polished and produced as any of the group’s released records, and even features the mixed time signatures and a cappella sections that Brian would explore in depth the following year with Smile! Plus, “Won't You Tell Me” is the classic lost recording from the Wilson circle, a demo for a song Murry had written for his sons, featuring members of the Sunrays and the Wrecking Crew—along with assistance from Dennis Wilson—emulating the Beach Boys sound and achieving something as complex and moving as anything on the group's greatest album of the period, Sunflower. Neither track was originally issued, and both appear here on vinyl for the first time. Also features rare photos and an insert with notes by original Sunrays member Rick Henn. The sunny and soulful sounds of the Sunrays!

•First-ever vinyl issue for both tracks!
•Rare photos, plus notes by founding Sunrays member Rick Henn!
•1965-styled picture sleeve with vintage full color Sunrays photos!

The Litter - Action Woman / A Legal Matter 7" Single

The 1966 debut by the Minneapolis-based Litter! “Action Woman” and “A Legal Matter” are stomping, searing ’60s sides—an unstoppable collection of snotty vocals and fuzzy guitar lines. The Litter become a determined collective mind on these performances, and the result is a coupling that stands side-by-side with other iconic recordings of the era, like “Sweet Young Thing” and “You're Gonna Miss Me.” Even the tambourine and maracas have loud and clear attitude that few other records can match! The original Scotty 45 is a cornerstone of any serious 1960s record collection, and now is reproduced in this lovingly created edition that features a Scotty Records-styled sleeve with a rare vintage group photo and notes by TeenBeat Mayhem! author Mike Markesich. “Action Woman” is a flawless hallmark performance, and “A Legal Matter” takes the Who’s music from the Mod clubs into the suburban garage with jet fuel-powered tempo and aggression. With in-the-studio presence and clarity taken from the original masters, this is the sound of garage rock maturing into psychedelia—prime, postured and pulsating!

•New picture sleeve with a rare photo of the Litter, plus notes by author Mike Markesich!
•Stunning audio taken from the original reels—pressed on blue wax!
•Scotty Records 45 labels, just like the 1967 original!!!

The Spectacular Six-String of Roy Lanham 7" Single

The space-age guitar sound of Roy Lanham! A guitarist's guitarist, Lanham had no less a player than Merle Travis commenting about listening to his records in admiration—his clean, jazzy lines were a fountain of inspiration for several generations of pickers! After touring heavily in the 1940s with acts like western swing pioneer Hank Penny and early pop idol Gene Austin, Lanham was at his peak in 1959 when he made these recordings, which have never been issued in any form until now! Includes the stunning “My Adobe Hacienda,” a romping original “Lanham Boogie,” and takes on “Carnival In Paris” and “Song of India,” both of which Lanham would later record for other labels, all featuring his gorgeous tone wrapped in vintage (and cool!) tape delay echo! With a small, unobtrusive combo backing Lanham’s tasteful, complex lines, these are not the typically overproduced instrumental recordings of the late ’50s but the genuine sound of a guitar leader and his supporting musicians deftly playing through tunes they clearly knew and loved. Pressed on red wax—a tribute to Roy's famed red Jazzmaster—with new notes by Rich Kienzle, this is an indispensable collection of previously unissued guitar mastery!

•1959 recordings, previously unissued in any format!
•Limited edition for Record Store Day 2014…with tracks only available here!
•Pressed on red wax—a tribute to Roy's signature red Fender Jazzmaster guitar!

English Oceans by Drive-By Truckers

ATO announces that Drive-By Truckers will be releasing English Oceans in 2014. Rolling Stone released the news exclusively today calling it a “return to simplicity.” English Oceans, the band’s 12th release, is an elegantly balanced and deeply engaged new effort that finds the group refreshed and firing on all cylinders. “It can go from this chainsaw rock ‘n’ roll to this very delicate, pretty-sounding stuff,” says Mike Cooley.

English Oceans was recorded over 13 days at Chase Park Transduction Studios in Athens, GA with their longtime producer, David Barbe. Cooley fans will be happy that he brought six new songs to the sessions and this record marks the first time that Cooley sings a song penned by Patterson Hood on “Til He’s Dead or Rises.”

In typical DBT fashion the songs depict an array of characters. “Pauline Hawkins,” is based on a new novel by Willy Vlautin. DBT’s ever-keen political edge can be seen in two songs on the record. Cooley’s “Made Up English Oceans” and Hood’s “The Part of Him.” “It’s about political assholery — there’s someone new playing that role every few months,” says Hood. “Grand Canyon,” the final song on the album, is an emotionally overwhelming tribute to Craig Lieske, a longtime member of DBT’s touring family. Lieske died suddenly in January and the album is dedicated to him.

The album was recorded with a compact, retooled lineup. Jay Gonzalez, who joined the band in 2008 as keyboardist, has added guitar to his duties, while bassist Matt Patton was drafted from the Tuscaloosa group The Dexateens. “It’s a very tasteful group, and when it needs to be it can be a very big, powerful, over-the-top band, too, and it can go from one to the other seamlessly,” says Hood.

Wild Beasts - Present Tense

Present Tense is a dramatically new album – taking cues from the most intense and effervescent of 1980s and 1990s electronic sound but rethinking and retooling these elements with exquisite detail for the 21st century.

Longer in creation than any of its predecessors, Hayden Thorpe, Tom Fleming, Chris Talbot and Ben Little took almost a full year away from touring to conceive and construct the eleven tracks of Present Tense. Written in London and recorded at Konk Studios in London and at The Distillery in Bath, the band worked in close collaboration with co-producers Lexxx and Brian Eno protégé Leo Abrahams to create a record of astounding intricacy, coherence and emotional resonance.

Alongside its breathtaking leap in production, Present Tense also finds the band at the peak of their considerable songwriting powers – each one of the album’s eleven tracks illuminating the precious, tender, sad and funny moments of modern life in their trademark plain-spoken poetics.

Already rightly considered to be one of contemporary Britain's most innovative and vital bands, Present Tense sees the group's ever-restless collective muse lead them to remarkable new heights - boldly embracing new production techniques and songwriting forms whilst retaining the thrilling idiosyncrasies that have made them so beloved over the course of three beguiling and beautiful albums to date.

Nothing - Guilty Of Everything

Philadelphia’s NOTHING have been destroying the eardrums of audiences throughout North America for the past 2 years with a magnetic blend of captivatingly dark and beautiful vocals and explosive, blown out, in the red guitar fuzz. On their debut full length Guilty Of Everything, recorded and produced by Jeff Zeigler (Kurt Vile, War On Drugs, etc) NOTHING seamlessly merge the huge distorted guitar sound of 90s/00s alternative rock giants My Bloody Valentine and Smashing Pumpkins with Jesu’s introspective post-metal/hardcore. This is a triumph of a debut that successfully manages to be massively loud, darkly introspective and totally beautiful all at once.
