KING CURTIS - LIVE AT FILLMORE WEST

Live At Fillmore West is the ultimate King Curtis live album, a brilliant confirmation of the saxophonist's place in popular music. This is the stuff of Soul legends that belongs in any record collection.

The album showcases three concerts he played with his band The Kingpins at the Fillmore West venue in San Francisco in March 1971. Those nights, the group supported Soul singer Aretha Franklin, as were they her backing band. Famed for their outstanding rhythmic interplay, the group of seasoned session men featured a.o. Cornell Dupree on guitar, Billy Preston on electric organ and Bernard 'Pretty' Purdie on drums, supported by the inimitable Memphis Horns.

Curtis rips through some of the biggest hits of the day including Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)" and Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love", transforming them into showcases for the group's soulful playing. Beautiful renditions of "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" and "I Stand Accused" are highlights, and full-throttle rockers like "Changes" and "Memphis Soul Stew" comprise the heart of the album.

Tragically only a week after its release, Curtis was stabbed to death outside his brownstone apartment in New York following an argument with two junkies. The day after he died the album peaked at No. 54 on the Billboard 200 album chart, his greatest success as a solo artist.

TEN YEARS AFTER - UNDEAD

Undead is a live album by Ten Years After, recorded live at the small jazz club, Klooks Kleek, in London on May 14th 1968, The show combined Blues, Boogie and Jazz playing that merged more traditional Rock and Roll with 50s-style Jump Blues. Alvin Lee, Leo Lyons, Chick Churchill and Ric Lee together became one of the biggest club attractions in England. Their music knows no compromise - it's straight down the line. It's loud and tough - but honest. Undead captures the excitement and raw energy of the band's live performances.

When originally released in 1968, the album was only 38 minutes long, due to the timing constraints of vinyl. As the band's tunes were all pretty long, there were only five tracks on the original issue. The expanded edition of Undead contains 4 additional tracks of the performance and is available on vinyl for the very first time. The remastered audio is pressed on 180 gram audiophile vinyl and Side D is beautifully etched.

Merge Reissuing Teenage Fanclub's Man-Made and Shadows LP's

On August 5, Merge will reissue Teenage Fanclub’s 'Man-Made' and 'Shadows,' two critically acclaimed albums never before available on LP in the US. These reissues continue our year-long 25th anniversary series of re-releasing classic albums from our back catalog each month throughout 2014.

Teenage Fanclub released 'Man-Made,' their Merge debut, in 2005. Recorded with John McEntire in Chicago, Man-Made is described by the band as “a medium-risk experiment—to cut ourselves off from what we knew, to be in a different type of city, on a different continent, to work with John, a different type of musician, an engineer with a particular sound, and to interact with whatever equipment he had at Soma: his drums, his amplifiers, his keyboards. The plan was to be somewhere truly new and deal with it, see how it worked out. We had never made a record this way before, and the prevailing circumstances at the time, the fact that we really had nothing to lose, made doing something slightly differently seem quite appealing.”

'Shadows' followed five years later. The band reveals how the recording process differed from the previous album: “Compared with Man-Made, this is a softer isolation, surrounded by fields and emptiness, and the live room at the studio, a converted barn, is filled with our equipment all mic’d up and ready to go. This set-up is how we approached the three records leading up to Man-Made, and we feel it suits us: a residential country location, close enough to drive but with sufficient distance from home to concentrate our minds on the job at hand.”

Both albums illustrate what SPIN magazine wrote of Teenage Fanclub: “Proof that youth is a state of mind you need never outgrow.”

'Man-Made' and 'Shadows' will be released on 180-gram vinyl, and each LP will include a download of the album plus two bonus tracks. Teenage Fanclub will return to the US in July for the first time since 2010 to play the Merge 25 Festival and the River Rocks Festival in New York.

'Man-Made' bonus tracks:
"Please Stay"
"Falling Leaf"

Preorders will ship to arrive on or around the release date of August 5th.

Super Furry Animals 'Dark Days/Light Years'

The Welsh psychedelic pop legends Super Furry Animals return with 'Dark Days/Light Years,' their ninth studio album. Where previous albums have seen the band experiment with extra instrumentation, this release is full of songs based on grooves rather than ensemble composition. The band's impish sense of humor remains, though, with track titles such as 'The Very Best Of Neil Diamond' and 'Moped Eyes' standing out. Also notable is Franz Ferdinand guitarist Nick McCarthy's guest appearance on the Kraftwerk-inspired 'Inaugural Trams', performing a German-language rap.

Vinyl Record News & Music Notes

upcoming releases from our friends at MusicOnVinyl

ROY ORBISON - OH PRETTY WOMAN

Now, for the first time since its appearance in the Monument Vinyl Box released on Black Friday 2013, this is what would have been Roy's fourth Monument album: Oh! Pretty Woman, the missing Monument masterpiece. Made up of songs recorded late in his Monument career and carefully selected by Roy's boys - his sons Wesley, Roy Kelton, and Alex Orbison - this album features specially created artwork so that it looks just as it would have in 1964, had Roy not left Monument.

Some songs have made their way onto hits compilations, like the title track "Oh, Pretty Woman" and "It's Over". The haunting "It's Over" (1964, #9 Pop) spoke of golden days before they end. It winds up to an Orbison crescendo that reminds you that you are on the edge of your seat, knowing not how you got there. "Oh, Pretty Woman" (#1 Pop): the smash of all smash hits. It entered the charts twice in 1964 and garnered Roy international superstardom and a million dollar contract with another label, thus ending a magical time, with magical people, making magical music at Monument. On 180 gram audiophile vinyl, Remastered audio.  The lost album from 1964!

ROY ORBISON - LONELY AND BLUE

Lonely And Blue is Roy Orbison's first album, released in 1961. The album was not only a breakthrough for Orbison as his debut LP, but also for Rock & Roll. Up to that point, apart from Elvis Presley - who was in a class by himself - few white rock & rollers had even tried to make as bold a use of the LP as what we hear on this record.

Lonely And Blue is a huge canvas for a sound that combined Rock & Roll's beat, Nashville's sound, and the singer's unique multi-octave range and intensity. The single "Only The Lonely" is perhaps the most accessible and commercial side of this new sound, but the whole album is packed with great moments.

The material was uniformly strong and consistent, probably due, in part, to the fact that producer Fred Foster was able to draw from nearly a year's worth of recording activity to assemble the contents of the album. Foster also took advantage of the album's stereo release to devise a crisp, discreet, two-channel mix that brought out all of the details of this sound in notably sharp relief, creating one of the earliest stereo rock & roll albums that was actually superior to its mono equivalent. Indeed, Sings Lonely and Blue was among the first rock & roll LPs to attract the interest of serious audiophile enthusiasts.  On 180 gram audiophile vinyl Remastered audio

ROY ORBISON - CRYING

Best known for his trademark sunglasses, distinctive, powerful voice, complex compositions, and dark emotional ballads, Roy Orbison is one of the few American artists to score significant British success during the "beat boom" of 1963-5. He was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.

Crying is the second album released by Roy Orbison in 1962. It was also his second album on the Monument record label. The album name comes from the 1961 hit song of the same name that in 2002 was honored with a Grammy Hall of Fame Award. In 2004, the song ranked #69 on Rolling Stone Magazine's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time".

The album features nearly all original material by Orbison and some of the writers who frequently tailored songs for him, such as Felice Bryant and Joe Melson. The trademark early Orbison production flourishes, with swooping strings and full vocal choruses, are also present. 180 gram audiophile vinyl  Remastered audio

CHICKEN SHACK - 100 TON CHICKEN

100 Ton Chicken is the third album by the UK Brit Blues band Chicken Shack. Originally released in 1969, the follow-up album of their first two albums 40 Blue Fingers Freshly Packed And Ready To Serve and OK Ken? was Paul Raymond's first album as a member of Chicken Shack. Raymond replaced Christine Perfect, who left the band when she married John McVie of Fleetwood Mac.

Terence Ibbott was in charge of the album artwork for 100 Ton Chicken, which was bizarre as always. The recordings sounded quite different and gave The Shack what they were looking for - a "heavier" sound. On the album Chicken Shack covered Clarence Carter tunes ("The Road Of Love" and "Weekend Love"), a great Freddie King tune "Look Ma, I'm Cryin'", Lowell Fulson's "Reconsider Baby" and Clarence Gatemouth Brown's "Midnight Hour."   180 gram audiophile vinyl

MINISTRY - TWITCH

Before Ministry created their influential  and breakthrough album, The Land of Rape and Honey, there was Twitch. Originally released in 1986, their second album Twitch stepped away from the Pop-oriented form of their debut album With Sympathy and moved toward a darker, more aggressive sound in the form of the EBM genre.

For this album founder and front man Jourgensen was granted more artistic control over the production, for which he mostly performed solo. Although the album doesn't sound like any of the other Ministry albums, listeners may hear how the band came of age. Twitch sold well, but was still considered to be 'underground'. The only single from the album was "Over The Shoulder." 180 gram audiophile vinyl and Insert.

Busman's Holiday -A Long Goodbye

Busman's Holiday is Lewis and Addison Rogers, brothers of melodic charm and ecstatic showmanship. Lewis plays guitar, and Addison plays drums. The singer/songwriter duo are occasionally accompanied by a string section who fill out their complexly euphonic ballads of love, loss, lust and outer space. Born and raised in Bloomington, Indiana, the pair has toured the U.S. and Canada extensively the past four years, appearing on WNYC's Radiolab, Daytrotter, and backing Jens Lekman.

Though adept in a D.I.Y. aesthetic of acoustic busking with only a guitar and a suitcase drum set, the brothers are equally at home on stage playing their unique songs of wanderlust and first love. Evoking a classic tent-show rock sound joined with the affable atmosphere of the assured vaudevillian, Busman's Holiday possesses their own unique blend of humor and musical talent.

Their debut full-length album, A Long Goodbye, was recorded in the legendary studio-in-a-church owned by Arcade Fire outside Montreal not long before Arcade Fire had to abandon it due to a collapsing roof. It was recorded and produced by Mark Lawson (Arcade Fire, Islands) and mixed by Drew Vandenberg (of Montreal, Kishi Bashi). Also appearing on the album are Jamie Thompson (The Unicorns, Islands) and Sebastien and Alexander Chow (Islands).

YELLOWBIRDS - Songs From The Vanished Frontier

Songs From The Vanished Frontier, the second album from New York’s Yellowbirds, includes love songs and breakup songs, happy numbers and sad numbers, tunes about not believing in the truth and, alternately, tunes about delivering it. There’s bracing rock ‘n’ roll and bubbling folk, drifting jangle and swiveling R&B. But the thread that unites these nine instantly affecting songs is their search to find the signal amid the noise—that is, to understand the world and its whirlwind and to deliver just a little bit of clarity every three or four minutes.

Singer, guitarist and songwriter Sam Cohen—who first came to prominence as part of the experimental psych rock band Apollo Sunshine—founded Yellowbirds as an outlet for new songs he’d been writing following his former band’s dissolution. Yellowbirds debut album, The Color, was released by The Royal Potato Family in 2011 and received favorable reviews, with Pitchfork noting that the record espoused “an endearing raggedness, as though Cohen invited you into his living room.” Vanished Frontier hinges on the same intimacy. The album glows with spectral harmonies and interwoven textures, decorative percussion and brilliant guitar playing; but, these are songs that could stand on their own, stripped of all that. In the end, the noise supports the signal.

Ask Mr. Music by Jerry Osborne

FOR THE WEEK OF JUNE 30, 2014

DEAR JERRY: We are in the process of binge watching Netflix's brilliant series, "Orange Is the New Black."

Near the start of the second season, the inmates have a Valentine's Day party. Softly playing in the background, and mostly drowned out by dialogue, is an old doo-wop style song. What is it?

Unlike most films, TV shows never identify the music used, which explains why people keep asking you for such information. Now it's my turn.
—Carmen Mendez, Canton, Ohio

DEAR CARMEN: Apparently, after hearing bits and pieces of "Do What Lovers Do," you did what people do, and with obvious success.

By Earl Lewis and the Channels, one of the 1950s premier doo-wop groups, "Do What Lovers Do" was not recorded until 1991 (Classic Artists 124).

Besides the single, this nifty throwback tune is also available on the 2000 CD album, "The Doo Wop Sound, Volume One" (Varese Sarabande 302 066 174 20).

That specific O.I.N.B. episode, "You Also Have a Pizza," is the sixth in the second season.

In an earlier episode, they really surprised me by playing "Crazy Eyes for You," a Top 40 hit from 1958 by Bobby Hamilton, and his only chart record. Even more shocking is they played it all the way through, as the credits rolled.

DEAR JERRY: When I recently heard the band named Alabama, I realized how few groups I know with the name of a state in their name, such as the New York Dolls.

Can you find one example for all 50 states?
—Claude Sanders, Brooklyn, N.Y.

DEAR CLAUDE: No wonder you knew one from the Empire State. Now, just to appear creative, I'll have to make different selections for both Alabama and New York.

With so much information to deal with, we'll have to do this in two parts: A-M and N-Z.

Here is each state with just one artist chosen whose name honors it:

ALABAMA: Alabama State Troopers (Introduced in 1972 with a self-titled LP on Elektra Records)

ALASKA: Alaska Troubadours (Recorded "Banoff Bounce" and "Sourdough Blues" for Royal)

ARIZONA: Arizona (Self-titled RCA Victor LP in 1976)

ARKANSAS: Black Oak Arkansas (Known for their Atco single, "Jim Dandy," a Top 30 hit in 1974)

CALIFORNIA: California Raisins (Only Claymation group on the list. Signature song was "I Heard it Through the Grapevine," from 1988. Surprisingly, they are the only "California ______" [fill in blank] act with a hit record on 45 rpm)

CONNECTICUT: Rudy Vallee and His Connecticut Yankees (Multi-talented superstar with many hits, especially in the 1930s and '40s)

DELAWARE: Delaware Valley U.S.A. West Featuring Ernie Walker (Issued "The Wreck of the Ninety 7" in 1961 on Kay-Y)

FLORIDA: Florida Hurricanes (Waxed "Just Another Day" for Hollywood Records in 1958)

GEORGIA: Georgia Satellites (Homegrown band whose Elektra single, "Keep Your Hands to Yourself," reached No. 2 in 1986)

HAWAII: Frank Ferera's Hawaiians (For the first half of the 20th century, Ferera was the Islands' preeminent guitarist, and the force behind hundreds of Hawaiian recordings.)

IDAHO: Idaho (UK band with the 1996 Caroline single, "Pomegranate Bleeding")

ILLINOIS: Illinois Speed Press (Chicago group whose self-titled debut LP for Columbia hit the charts in 1969)

INDIANA: Boys from Indiana (Among their mid-'70s King Bluegrass tunes is "I Miss My Indiana")

IOWA: Iowa Roxx with the OHS Madrigal Chorus (Hailing from the Hawkeye State, on the Action Sports label, and with "Hawkmania" for a title, make this 1984 single the perfect Iowa choice)

KANSAS: Kansas (This Topeka outfit had over a dozen hits, but are best remembered for their 1978 "Dust in the Wind")

KENTUCKY: Kentucky Headhunters (Award-winning country-rock band that landed in the Top 10 in 1990 with "Oh Lonesome Me," on Mercury)

LOUISIANA: Louisiana Rhythm Kings (New Orleans jazz band par excellence, with 34 terrific tunes from 1928 to 1930. Their 78s are usually in the $200 to $600 range)

MAINE: Maine (Five man Spanish band, now with two albums on Tralla: "Motor Home" [2000] and "A Moment Before" [2003])

MARYLAND: Marylanders with Buddy Lucas and His Band of Tomorrow (West Baltimore quintet that recorded for Jubilee in 1952 and '53, then evolved into the Stylists in 1959)

MASSACHUSETTS: Dick Madison and the Massachusetts Delegation (Artists with Massachusetts in their name are rare. Fortunately, this delegation made a single on Oracle circa-1969: "Give a Damn" backed with "Hey Jude")

MICHIGAN: Prince Arky and the Michigan Playboys (Arky implies from Arkansas, so he crossed the Mississippi River to Tennessee in 1963 to record "My Heart Would Surely Die" for Judd Records, in Memphis. Somewhere along the way, Arky acquired some Michigan Playboys)

MINNESOTA: Minnesota Marv and the Vanguards (These gophers made two singles for Cuca, both in 1961: "Nobody's Darling But Mine" and "Little Boy Blue")

MISSISSIPPI: Mississippi Blacksnakes (Only four 78s are known by this group, all from 1931, all for Brunswick, and none easy to find for under $1,000)

MISSOURI: Missouri (Recorded for Panama and Polydor from 1977 to '79, with singles and albums for both labels)

MONTANA: Patsy Montana and the Prairie Ramblers (Patsy's prime period is 1935 to '45, but her influence on latter day singing cowgirls and yodelers cannot be overstated. Patsy's signature song, "I Wanna Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart," remains one of the most performed songs in western music history)

IZ ZAT SO? There are plenty of choices for areas like New York, California and Texas, but finding artists' names that include these states presented a much greater challenge:

Alaska; Connecticut; Delaware; Idaho; Iowa; Maine; Massachusetts; Missouri; Nebraska; Nevada; New Hampshire; New Mexico; North Dakota; South Dakota; Utah; Vermont; West Virginia; and Wyoming.

Next week, Part Two: Nebraska through Wyoming.

Big Brother & the Holding Company MONO Edition LP

Sundazed presents the high-definition vinyl reissue of the ultra-rare mono edition of Big Brother & the Holding Company’s 1967 debut! Besides being the album that introduced the world to Janis Joplin, Big Brother & the Holding Company’s first release stands as one of the classic recordings of ’60s rock. Joplin had added her fiery wail to the archetypal Haight-Ashbury acid-rock quintet only months before it entered the studio to make the album, and for the sessions she shares vocal duties with bassist Peter Albin and guitarist Sam Andrew. But, thanks to the LP’s raging single, “Down on Me,” it was immediately clear to radio audiences of the time that the Texas-born singer was a new force to be reckoned with.

In addition to Joplin’s inimitable blues cry, Big Brother’s other key strength lies in the scraping, distorted guitars of Sam Andrew and James Gurley, which are in heavy abundance on such choice cuts as the trippy “Light is Faster Than Sound,” the punkish “Women is Losers,” and the group’s fuzzy, droning remake of Moondog’s “All is Loneliness.” Cut from the original mono masters, this Sundazed edition adds two scarce single-only sides.

The Guess Who - Shakin' All Over!

LIMITED EDITION COLORED VINYL- 2-LP Set

Though they found worldwide fame in 1969, Winnipeg's Guess Who had been scoring scads of hard-rockin' hits in Canada for years, beginning with 1965's ferocious rendition of "Shakin' All Over." Now, spurred by the recent unearthing of a bevy of vintage master tapes—and with the help of Guess Who guitarist Randy Bachman—we've gathered 24 of The Guess Who's hardest-hitting, most awesome recordings from '63-'67. With many tracks in true stereo and a handful of cuts that haven't seen daylight for more than 30 years, Shakin' All Over! is the ultimate distillation of the seismic sound of the early Guess Who, and is available on CD and as a double high-definition vinyl gatefold LP!

Along with B.B. and Freddie, Albert King will forever be hailed as one of the original “Three Kings of the Blues Guitar.” Cutting a dynamic 6’ 4” figure on stage while playing his 1958 Gibson Flying V upside down to accommodate his left-handedness (paging Mr. Hendrix!), Albert earned the nickname “The Velvet Bulldozer” due to his forceful yet subtle style. An enormous influence on the British blues scene, Eric Clapton was perhaps King’s most vocal fan, crediting Cream classics like “Strange Brew” as direct extensions of King’s playing. Other axemen falling under his sway were the afore-mentioned Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Mick Taylor, Joe Walsh, Robbie Robertson and Stevie Ray Vaughan. By the late 1960s, King was headlining rock shows around the country and turning on generation of American fans to electric blues.

To record Born Under a Bad Sign, King walked “Lucy,” his well-worn Flying V, down Memphis’ McLemore Avenue and straight into Stax Studios. Once inside, he enlisted the aid of Booker T. and the MGs as well as the Memphis Horns. Talk about a backing band! The combination proved absolutely explosive as the MGs solid groove allowed King to lay down stinging solos with abandon. Though rightly hailed for his guitar prowess, King was also an incredibly soulful singer as he definitively demonstrates throughout the album. Often, he used his guitar as an extension of his voice, answering a vocal line with an equally descriptive lick. Just listen to the back-and-forth of “Laundromat Blues” for a prime example. The album’s title track, which became King’s signature song, also features fiery vocal and guitar interplay. For the “velvet” side of the bulldozer, try King’s tender treatment of the Tin Pan Alley chestnut, “The Very Thought of You.”

Upon release in 1967, Born Under a Bad Sign was hailed as an instant classic. It has since been recognized as one of the all-time great blues albums, with a Grammy Hall of Fame Award, placement in Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Albums of All Time” and induction into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame’s “Classics of Blues Recordings” among its many accolades. No thorough blues or rock collection is complete without it. Sundazed has sourced this edition directly from the original Stax analog masters to ensure that every lick, every line, every shout is captured. In addition to the album’s eleven original tracks, this Sundazed release adds two King rare mono single sides, “Funk-Shun” and “Overall Junction.” This “bad sign” ain’t nothin’ but good!

MESSENGER - Illusory Blues (grey vinyl)

MESSENGER (UK) is a musical troupe from London formed in the spring of 2012 by Khaled Lowe and Barnaby Maddick. They booked a session with producer Jaime Gomez Arellano at Orgone Studios that gave birth to their debut album, Illusory Blues: a cosmic ode to the forces of nature and the inevitable cycle of life. To cite musical influences would be futile. The musicians had made their names with bands in scenes as far apart as hardcore punk, black metal, and ambient music. Tonally, one might recall finding oneself in the same "space" occupied by other architects of sound such as Ulver, The Beatles, Swans, or Pink Floyd. But the stream of sound that emanates from the source of Illusory Blues is a heaving mass of organic richness, brimmed with intricate sounds that acknowledge the original fathers of experimentation but look forward in creating something new and unique. They dwell equally in the earthly realm of folk music and in the celestial void of progressive psychedelia, but have chanced upon a sound and an experience that sounds like no other. Rounded off by Daniel Knight and James Leach, the lineup of MESSENGER is now complete, but the journey has just begun.

SUN RA - Cosmos (import reissue LP)

Sun Ra has always been an explorer, venturing out among the cycles and frequencies of the musical cosmos like a wild astronaut, bent on rejoicing and celebrating the wonders of the universe. The extended metaphor of space travel permeates the emotional climate of this masterful recording, as Sun Ras Arkestra reaches out to express the vibrations of the stars as in Interstellar the adventure of travel as in "Moonship" and "Unknown Planet." Sun Ra has always been ahead of his time, musically and spiritually, and has suffered somewhat at the hands of fashionable critics who disdained his attempts at cosmic communications.

The Delmonas - The Delmonas

British garage pop girl group, the Del Monas began life as the Milk-Boilers. If that moniker sounds suspiciously similar to that of the Billy Childish and Mickey Hampsire-led Milkshakes, it’s no co-incidence: The trio got its start by singing backup on the lads’ recordings (and dating the boys in the band). Sarah (who went with Mickey Hampshire), Hilary (with Russ Wilkins), and Louise (with Bruce Brand) took the lead on a rendition of the Beatles’ “Boys” before striking out on their own with a couple of four-song EPs in 1984: Comin’ Home Baby (popularized by Mel Tormé) and Hello, We Love You (actually the Doors’ “Hello, I Love You.”) In both cases, the Milkshakes served as their backing band and Childish and Hampshire wrote most of the originals.

For these EPs, the girls were re-christened the Del Monas (originally two words) by Bruce Brand. The name was inspired by various R&B song titles (eg:The Queen Bees, the Monas) and was finalised as The Del Monas after Bruce saw a record by the Del Capris in a shop window. The following year, the Delmonas released their first full-length recording, Dangerous Charms, which contained a new version of 'Comin' Home Baby', the remaining EP tracks, three outtakes, and five numbers from a radio broadcast (it was later re-released as with additional material from another BBC session from 1988).

Interpersonal tensions resulted in a recording gap of several years and a revamped lineup for 1986′s follow-up, Delmonas 5!.

Billy Childish, Holly Golightly - In Blood

BILLY has been releasing records since 1979, HOLLY has been releasing records since 1990, in 1999 they got together for a collaborative effort which originally came out in the USA on Wabana records.

IN BLOOD is a great album, pretty much ignored in Europe the first time around, it’s subtitled ‘ONE CHORD! ONE SONG! ONE SOUND! But it’s so much more than that, tracks like ‘Demolition Girl’ & ‘Step Out’ roar out of your stereo, really great dirty one chord (with many notes) blues songs with vocal trading, clanging guitars and backed by the Medway Delta Review, which features, Bruce and Johnny of Thee Headcoats as well as Johnny Gibb of the Wildebeests.

While simplicity, repetition and sheer rock & roll minimalism are at the heart of the album, ‘In Blood’ never ceases hold interest. It's just plain addictive.

Cannibal Corpse  - A Skeletal Domain (Picture Disc)

Lucky number thirteen? Lucky or not, it's a quantity of releases (not even counting VHS/DVD releases and EPs) and a wealth of material beyond which most bands could even imagine. Cannibal Corpse approaches each recording session with a honed and precise vision of a band in their third decade of existence. With this new entry to their extensive catalog, they have switched gears, opting to work with producer Mark Lewis at Audio Hammer Studios, after having tracked their previous three (Kill, Evisceration Plague, Torture) with Erik Rutan. Mark Lewis is a name metal fans have surely heard at this point; he has produced recent albums from The Black Dahlia Murder, DevilDriver, and many more. Sonically speaking, the result this time around is a massive, belligerent, and deliberate aural attack.
