MILES DAVIS - KIND OF BLUE (2014 REMASTERED)

Listed as one of the four most influential Jazz albums that happened to be released in 1959 (Dave Brubeck – Time Out & Charles Mingus – Ah Um among them), so much has been said and written about Miles Davis’ Kind Of Blue, it’s virtually impossible to summarize all the necessary info to the length of this page. We could simply list some facts (best sold Jazz album ever worldwide). We could try to explain why it’s the best Jazz album ever made, but the music itself will do that to you.

The first pressing of this remastered stereo version will be released as a limited edition of 2500 numbered copies on a ‘kind of blue’ transparent vinyl!

METHOD MAN - TICAL

Tical is the debut solo album of American rapper, and Wu-Tang Clan member Method Man, released November 15, 1994, on Def Jam Records.

It was the first Wu-Tang solo album released after the group's debut, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Similar to all first generation solo Wu-Tang projects, Tical was mainly produced by group member RZA, who provided a dark, murky and rugged sound. The album features guest appearances from RZA,Raekwon, Inspectah Deck, as well as several affiliates who would later appear on future group projects. The album's title "Tical" is a slang term for a blunt that has been laced with an adulterant, typically a sweetener or another psychoactive substance. The album title is also a play on the word "methodical".

Moon Duo - Live in Ravenna

Moon Duo's Live in Ravenna was recorded in the summer of 2013 and is available as a limited, one-time vinyl pressing. "Ravenna was memorable for a number of reasons, the most prominent being the really very intense heat, and the setting - Hanabi has an outdoor stage on the beach, the Adriatic Sea only meters away," the band's Sanae Yamada explains. "The show that night, and the recording of it, sort of encapsulates everything that was happening at the time - the heat wave, the journey, and the shift in the energy and composition of the band."

Temples - Sun Structures (Pink Vinyl) PRE-ORDER

Made in Kettering UK, Temples' first recording arrived in one Technicolor burst in July 2012. James Bagshaw and Tom Warmsley recorded Shelter Song, put it on the Internet, and set into motion an unstoppable chain of events that eventually saw them signed to Fat Possum Records. That same track, a bouncy, psychedelic romp, was issued as their debut single on Heavenly Recordings - and quickly became as sought after as any of the vintage vinyl they individually lusted over.

Extremely limited!

October is breast cancer awareness month. To support the cause ten bands will be releasing an album on pink vinyl. For every unit sold, $1 will be donated to Gilda’s Club NYC.

This album is a pre-order. We expect it to ship on or before the September 30th release date.

The Unicorns - Who Will Cut Our Hair When We’re Gone? (Remastered) PRE-ORDER

WWCOHWWG? was the third and final full- length album by the Canadian indie rock act The Unicorns, and was originally released in 2003. The album gained wide and immediate praise, with broad critical and commercial acclaim from outlets as diverse at NME, Pitchfork and The Village Voice. This cult affection is probably best summarized in the album’s involvement as the premise for the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother? i.e., the basis for the lead character falling in love with said “mother” being their mutual love of the obscure Who Will Cut Our Hair…?.

The Unicorns disbanded shortly after the release of WWCOHWWG?, with founding member Nick Thorborn going on to create the band Islands, and perform in various projects. The Arcade Fire shows are the first time The Unicorns will be performing in over a decade.

This album is a pre-order. We expect it to ship on or before the October 7th release date.

Geykido Comet Records - GC047 - LP Snapshot of the 2014 Las Vegas Music Scene

Geykido Comet Records—better known as GC Records— is the punk rock collective that has put this record out. This is the catalog number, our 47th release. Since 1999, the label has grown into a multimedia library of CDs, USBs, vinyl records, DVDs, and books representing the efforts of hundreds of musicians and artists.

2014 marks 15 years of creative output. It is a year of celebration and rebirth. To celebrate we held a nationwide scavenger hunt. Clues were sent out via Twitter and Instagram, and fans searched around their respective cities hunting for GC goodies. We also organized a 15-year anniversary show featuring bands (including several who reunited for the occasion) artists, fans, and friends all coming together to have a good time.

The Lightning side is punk rock in its purest form. The Cloud side is the new face of Vegas music. You might prefer one side to the other, or you may dislike a song or two on each side. The beauty of this evolution within our various collectives is that you are likely to discover tracks you love and tracks you hate — and you are more than welcome to your opinion.

Regardless of your likes and dislikes, these are the musicians who are working from the bottom up. They are giving everything they have in order to make a name for themselves in a world where SoundCloud and Vine influence album sales more than actual talent. This record is who we are and what we have become. All we ask of you is to keep an open mind.

R.E.M. - Document GAIN 2™ Ultra Analog 180g LP

The last album R.E.M. made before migrating to Warner Bros., and very arguably the last start-to-finish masterpiece the band created in its acclaimed career, Document turned Georgia’s celebrated sons into mainstream stars. Musically unadulterated and sonically pure, the group’s 1987 work epitomizes the unmistakable sound and feeling of college rock during a period where innocence, experimentation, and adventurousness freely collided before being co-opted and branded as “alt-rock.” Document is the record to which everyone refers when citing R.E.M. as the premier example of how a respected band is expected to behave, evolve, and maintain its integrity after experiencing mass success.

Mastered from the original master tapes and carefully pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity’s numbered limited-edition 180g LP edition of this breakthrough set explodes with unrivaled instrumental signatures, deep soundstages, and faithful tonalities that allow listeners insight into the actual makes and models of the guitars utilized on the recording. Sharp and clean, Scott Litt’s widescreen production throws the band into clear relief, magnifying its razor-edged melodies and drummer Bill Berry’s foundation-establishing beats. R.E.M. has never sounded so muscular or righteous.

Indeed, the quartet plays as if on a mission, its electrified energy teeming with a contagious fervor that helps fuel political numbers such as “Welcome to the Occupation,” “Exhuming McCarthy,” “Disturbance at the Heron House,” and “King of Birds.” R.E.M. comes into its own, peeling back the layers on vagueness and utilizing Michael Stipe’s biting lyrics and Mike Mills’ amped-up guitar riffs to punctuate its catchy fare. Aptly, songs dance around a central image of fire.

The group’s hallmark jangle-pop motifs and swooning refrains remain, yet they exhibit a determined attitude and wily quality that brings everything up to another notch. Toss in surf-rock fills, feedback accents, deep-South rootsiness, and subversive undertones, and Document stands as near-flawless statement: A reaction to the social and material currency of its era, a call-to-arms to overcome trauma via hope, humor, and justified anger.

All these characteristics bleed into the manic anthem “It’s the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine),” a renegade shot of beat poetry, delirious delivery, punk-infused vitality, and bounce-around-the-room chaotic abandon that never grows stale. Is R.E.M. serious or joking? Or both? Part of the genius is that it’s still impossible to tell. R.E.M. delights in taking listeners for a ride on Document, the swerving, drifting, stylistic interplay, and brief detours all of a whole, the group relishing in the fun of going for broke and succeeding at all of its goals.

We don’t need to go on about R.E.M.’s standing as a group that’s influenced countless artists and inspired millions of listeners. If you own just one of the quartet’s albums, it should be Document.

INTER ARMA - The Cavern (EP)

Inter Arma follow up their universally acclaimed ‘Sky Burial’ with the epic 40+ minute one-song ‘The Cavern’ ep. Recorded during breaks from the relentless touring the band did on the ‘Sky Burial’ album with the likes of Baroness, Russian Circles and more, this new ep is the ultimate exhibition of the genius that Inter Arma have always hinted at. Unparalleled musicianship meets the soulfully deranged vocalis of Mike Paparo to create one of the most impressive pieces of metal to be released this year. Shifting from Americana laced extreme metal to doom to stoner rock to prog all within a single song, Inter Arma’s ‘The Cavern’ is an opus that will surely be heralded for years to come along the likes of Sleep’s ‘Dopesmoker’ as a work of true artistic vision and endurance.

upcoming releases from our friends at MusicOnVinyl

ELVIS PRESLEY - THAT'S THE WAY IT IS

Originally released in November 1970, Elvis: That's The Way It Is combined eight studio tracks, recorded in Nashville, and four live concert performances recorded in Las Vegas during Presley's 1970 'Summer Festival' season at The International Hotel in Las Vegas. Elvis played dozens of times at The International Hotel in 1969 and 1970 over several number of weeks. Elvis was on a roll and making big plans - including a feature film and studio time in Nashville.

When Elvis arrived at RCA's Studio B in Nashville on June 4, 1970, producer Felton Jarvis had assembled a hot new session band featuring Elvis' on-stage guitar legend James Burton. Five nights of recording generated material for no less than three future albums and four singles, including Elvis: That's The Way It Is.

This brand new 4LP version, That's The Way It Is (Expanded Edition) centers on one show at The International which was recorded and partially filmed by MGM. These show recordings are released for the first time in their entirety. The original RCA album is expanded with four single sides from the period, and a selection of "fly-on-the-wall" outtakes from the June Nashville sessions that produced the majority of tracks for the album.

With remastered audio and packed in a triple gatefold sleeve, this 4LP set includes a 16 page booklet with rare pictures and new liner notes.

ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK - HERCULES

Hercules (2014) is a riveting adventure blockbuster directed by Brett Ratner and starring Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock), Joseph Fiennes, John Hurt and more. It is based on the graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars.

The film was a pleasant surprise to critics. The chief film critic for Variety wrote: "it's a grandly staged, solidly entertaining, old-fashioned adventure movie that does something no other Hercules movie has quite done before: it cuts the mythical son of Zeus down to human size (or as human as you can get while still being played by Dwayne Johnson)" and further added that "[Hercules's] strongest asset is surely Johnson, who continues to foster one of the most affable, guileless screen personas in movies today."

The music epic, driving, classic and cool. All of these adjectives were used to describe the music desired by the creative team making Hercules. Composer Fernando Velázquez rose to the occasion and delivered a fantastic score. The recording sessions took place at Air Studios and Abbey Road Studios in London, with Fernando conducting the tremendous London Philharmonic Orchestra.

ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK - COMING HOME

Zhang Yimou's movie Coming Home (original title "Gui lai") is adapted from the novel The Criminal Lu Yanshi by American-based novelist Yan Geling. The film chronicles the journey of a Chinese dissident from the 1920's to the 1990's, and world premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May of 2014. Filmmaking doesn't get more timeless than this heartbreaking historical romance, a family drama of guilt, love and reconciliation set during the aftermath of China's Cultural Revolution.

The original soundtrack has been composed by Qigang Chen, who worked as Music Director of the Opening Ceremony at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. In 2013 he was voted, along with Mo Yan (Nobel Laureate, Literature) and Lang Lang, "Most Influential Chinese in the World of Culture and the Arts" by a consortium of major Chinese media.

Chen Qigang's score, drawn from vintage Chinese revolutionary symphonies performed by legendary pianist Lang Lang, is a sentimental one. Piano is the main "voice" of this score, with cello, violin and female voices in supporting roles. In order to make it work with the story, the music of Coming Home features simple tunes and forms. Anything excessively rousing is avoided, with the soundtrack largely providing an understated aural backdrop, coming up to the foreground only when the occasion calls for it.

Original Soundtrack - FARGO

'This is a true story…'

Not. Fargo is a fantastic dark comedy-crime drama television series created and written by Noah Hawley and inspired by Joel & Ethan Coen's feature of the same title from 1996. Both Coen brothers serve as executive producers on the series. The show stars Martin Freeman (The Hobbit trilogy), Billy Bob Thornton, Bob Odenkirk (Breaking Bad) and more.

The soundtrack features selections from the show's original music composed by Jeff Russo (Power, Necessary Roughness, About Cherry). Its score is well done, with different motifs or instruments assigned to different characters. For Lester Nygaard (Martin Freeman's character) it's that nearly-whimsical main theme. For the drifter Lorne Malvo (Thornton's character) it's sleigh bell chimes that represent his animalistic nature coming out.

To celebrate its first vinyl issue, we're pressing 1500 numbered copies on icy-white vinyl. Brrr….

FatCat Records present We Were Promised Jetpacks third studio album ‘Unravelling’, the bands most confident and accomplished record to date.  Brimming with emotion and passion, this musically strong and assured album sees the unique and identifiable Jetpacks sound now grown and fully galvanised.

Many of the lyrics within conjure the notion of a conflicted protagonist struggling to keep their life on course, while battling a creeping sense of uncertainty and impending doom. ‘Unravelling’ is a captivating ride of tense excitement, pounding rhythm, huge walls of cavernous guitar and hyperborean beauty, all kept in check by the band’s gifted song writing skills.

‘Unravelling ’ was recorded in Glasgow at the infamous Chem19 Studios with Paul Savage.

Both physical formats are also available to buy in a bundle together with a cotton tote bag and a T Shirt that both feature the disorientating album artwork.

The vinyl is a limited edition yellow

BETTER THAN EZRA - All Together Now

"Better Than Ezra, known for their hits “Good,” “Desperately Wanting,” “Juicy,” and selling out venues for nearly 20 years, will release their eighth studio album titled All Together Now via The End Records on September 9, 2014. (Blue Vinyl w/ download)

Better Than Ezra quickly became a staple in the ‘90s pop/rock scene following their debut album Deluxe in 1995 via Elektra and immediately releasing two new albums within three years of being signed. Friction, Baby, released in 1996, and How Does Your Garden Grow? In 2001, Better Than Ezra released critically acclaimed Closer, followed by Before the Robots in 2005. The latter featured the hit “Juicy,” licensed by several commercials and brands, was also featured in the promotional advertisements for the popular ABC television series Desperate Housewives."

Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats - Mind Control

To coincide with the release their new single “Runaway Girls” – The lost track of Mind Control….

This previously unreleased diehard was pressed at the same time as the others, however was meant strictly for friends and family of the band.

As we’re now going through old stock to clear space we are able to put the remaining copies up for sale, and once they’re gone, they’re gone.

This Diehard double LP is a tri-colour of orange, red and purple. Also included is an orange version diehard patch, a Mt. Abraxas poster and a die-cut gatefold sleeve.

With ‘Mind Control‘ Uncle Acid proves beyond doubt that they are more than worthy of the cult-status already achieved from previous output. Mind Control is a simply stunning piece of work in an era where bandwagon jumping and fake nonsense is the general order of the day. This is genuinely out-there hard rock played from the heart. A masterwork not to be missed!

Revocation Pre-Order New Release 'Deathless'

"Deathless" was recorded with acclaimed producer Zeuss at Planet Z studios in Massachusetts. The album is ten tracks of ambitious, catchy, and undeniably heavy material. Musically, cuts like "Madness Opus" showcase a more deliberate Revocation - restrained, if even moderately so, to deliver a slow, near-dirge like track. Alternatively, the title track highlights the diversity of Davidson's vocals with a catchy chorus. It's an ear worm the likes of which the band had only previously hinted. The rest of the album offers a refreshing variety of music and truly feels like an "album", rather than a collection of similar tracks. This is a refinement, achieved only through years of focusing on their craft.

Davidson adds, "Collectively, we feel that "Deathless" is our finest offering yet. The songs are incredibly varied and each one showcases a different element of the band. Technically, everyone is in top form on this record, as well, and we really pushed ourselves to deliver the best performances possible on all fronts. This is a new chapter and a new beginning for the band; we can't wait for this record to be unleashed in October!"

PAUL COLLINS - Feel The Noise

Paul Collins is a guy who's been around the block. He was one of the progenitors of the early power-pop movement in the '70s in not one, but three influential bands of that era - The Nerves, The Breakaways and The Beat (the latter even appearing on Dick Clark's American Bandstand back in the day). He later turned towards a decidedly rootsier approach to his music, exploring country and folk rock, before returning to the more driving, high-energy sounds of his youth on his acclaimed 2010 Alive Naturalsound effort "The King Of Power Pop". His music has been covered by a host of talented musicians, most notably his song "Walking Out On Love," which Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong performed as part of the punk band's hit Broadway musical American Idiot. Collins has been diligently working the DIY circuit since 2008, playing with some 160 up-and-coming bands in that time, and working harder than he has in his entire career. The music legend is still standing and has the same enthusiasm for the music that he did when he first started rocking out in 1974. On his new album, "Feel The Noise", Paul Collins travels full-circle, tapping into the very spirit of rock 'n' roll that fueled much of his early groundbreaking material. This new album (with a cover featuring a beautiful shot of a younger Paul Collins) is the obvious extension of his most iconic work with, what many still consider to be the one of the most important power-pop band, The Beat.

Produced by Detroit studio legend Jim Diamond, who also plays bass and guitar, and features Dave Shettler (SSM) on drums, Eddie Baranek (The Sights) on lead guitar, and Nikki Corvette.

Incredible STARBURST vinyl ltd to 150, you have to see this vinyl to believe it,  it’s so great you’ll want one just to put on your wall. Even the images dont do it justice. You wont be disappointed!  Each album is slightly different, one of a kind.

THE VENETIA FAIR and SWITCHBITCH RECORDS Release 2nd Pressing of 'Every Sick, Disgusting Thought We've Got In Our Brain'

Boston's favorite theatrical-rock band The Venetia Fair announced a second pressing of their album, Every Sick, Disgusting Thought We've Got In Our Brain on 12" vinyl, offered in a classic format
HERE

Limited to 250 copies, the release will be in bone-colored vinyl with a normal sleeve, featuring album artwork designed by bassist Chark King.

“The first pressing was pretty insane,” commented singer Benny Santoro, referring to the original ESDTWGIOB pressing from last fall which featured a tortoiseshell splatter vinyl and interactive pinwheel-cutout sleeve (as featured on Property Of Zack). “We think it was worth every penny and [even at $30 a pop] they sold out pretty quickly, but we know there are some people out there that don't care about it being flashy; they just want a traditional vinyl experience at a traditional price. For this pressing we pulled the reins in a little bit in an effort to make it more affordable. It's still very handsome and, of course, sounds exactly the same, it just comes in a slightly more modest package.”

Although currently independent, the band will release the vinyl again through guitarist Mike Abiuso's label, SwitchBitch Records based in NYC, which regularly supports artists outside of its roster. Being sold for only $15 a copy, this limited-run vinyl won't last long, be sure to grab your copy while you can!

Death - Spiritual Healing Reissue

Death’s landmark ‘Spiritual Healing’ record is nothing short of genre-defining.  Originally released in 1990, Spiritual Healing marked a new turn in the Death discography, one which ushered in cleaner production, a new level of boundary pushing musicianship and songwriting skills that were previously unimaginable from a metal band.  Spiritual Healing sets the standard for riffs, insane time changes and of course mainman Chuck Schuldiner’s masterful guitar solos.

Ask Mr. Music by Jerry Osborne

DEAR JERRY: You have created many lists requested by readers who could not get the information on their own. Now it's my turn.

Nowhere have I seen a chronological listing of prominent vinyl era musicians who died young, meaning under age 60.

Their style of music doesn't matter, but please limit the coverage to 50 years — 1950 through 1999.

I don't require obituaries, or details on how and why they died, just their name and age at time of passing.

IZ ZAT SO? Ritchie Valens is the youngest to die (Feb. 2, 1959). At just 17, Ritchie is also the only teenager overall.

The youngest female is 23-year-old Mary Ann Ganser, a member of the Shangri-las. The exact cause of her death (March 14, 1970) remains undetermined.

The oldest male under 60 is Conway Twitty who died at 59, and the female is Dusty Springfield, who was also 59, but not quite as old as Conway.

From just the 277 musicians we've documented, whose lives ended during the second half of the 20th century, 36 deaths were categorized as suicides, and 43 as overdoses of drugs and/or alcohol.

At times the line between a suicide and an overdose is hazy, but either way 79 young (in most cases) entertainers died by their own hands.

Vinyl Record News & Music Notes

selected pre-orders from our friends at SoundStageDirect

M83 - M83

M83 is the debut studio album by M83, recorded in 2000 and originally released in North America on Mute in 2005. Produced by both M83 and Morgan Daguenet, the album is predominately instrumental, with dialogue samples from various films and television programs appearing across the songs. The track titles, if read sequentially, form a short story.

M83 has since gone on to release 2011’s Grammy-nominated double album, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming (which contains platinum single, “Midnight City”). M83 scored the soundtrack for the 2013 film, Oblivion (with Tom Cruise), the soundtrack to French film, You and the Night (the directorial debut of his brother, Yann Gonzalez), and most recently contributed the original track, “I Need You” to the 2014 film, Divergent. M83 is currently considered one of the top electronic music artists in the world.

Native Echoes - Beach Day

Beach Day - the name's more about attitude than genre. It's about the ease and breeze of their modern wall of sound. Their tall, bright merge of garage rock, surf pop and girl group sounds is inspired by nostalgia but powered by fresh verve, sitting pretty alongside contemporaries like Cults, Tennis, La Luz, Those Darlins and Dum Dum Girls. And while their native Florida may be in a state of perma-vacation, Beach Day isn't. The band will release Native Echoes on Kanine Records, their second album in two years.

our friends at ThrillJockey have some fantastic vinyl available

The Fact Facer - Holy Sons

Holy Sons is at the center of his many musical personalities and is his longest standing project, acting as an outlet for some of his most personal and direct songs. In Holy Sons, Amos puts his restless imagination to work using a variety of inventive home recording methods to turn melodic slow-burners into multi-layered, atmospheric missives. While his methods and prolificacy provide a kinship with Sebadoh, Ariel Pink and other musicians who have offered countless transmissions from their bedroom floor, Holy Sons comes from the mind of someone who has internalized the minutia of 70s rock music and eschews the stereotypical lo-fi sound for a much deeper and more varied palate. The Fact Facer, his Thrill Jockey debut, bathes Amos’ thoughtful, and even at times philosophical, songs in technicolor darkness, and reinforces Holy Sons as his musical centerpiece.

The songs on The Fact Facer creep up on the listener, their fiercely addictive melodies unraveling slowly and purposefully. Jumping smoothly between many facets of Amos’ songwriting, the album does much to establish him as a talented multi-instrumentalist. From the lysergic leads of “Selfish Thoughts”” to the Danny Kirwan referencing solos of “Transparent Powers” and the skillful acoustic flourishes of “The Fact Facer,” Amos proves himself as adept and creative a guitarist as he is a drummer. It is telling that Amos has built up two Holy Sons bands simultaneously: one based in Portland and one based in New York. Wherever the wind takes him, there are musicians willing to pick up their instruments and follow his lead.

LP version is pressed on virgin vinyl and packaged in a jacket with spot UV gloss printing on cover and a free download coupon. While supplies last mailorder customers will be treated to a purple vinyl edition (LIMITED TO ONLY 500). CD version is packaged in a 4 panel mini-LP style gatefold package.

This is a pre-order for September 23rd street date.

In The Fall - Future Islands

Too many bands in the era of buzz and the blog are taken before their time. The spotlight hits hard and finds a group who has not yet developed, not yet put in the work to find their sound and hone it and make themselves better, and just as quickly they’re gone. Future Islands are not one of those bands.

J Gerrit Welmers, William Cashion and Samuel T Herring have been making music together since 2003, and as Future Islands since 2006, putting in the work. Formed as college friends in Greenville, NC, Future Islands relocated to Baltimore after becoming friends with Dan Deacon, an early and avid supporter of the band. They’ve released a handful of CD-Rs, tapes and limited vinyl releases, and their debut album Wave Like Home came out on UK label Upset the Rhythm in 2008. They’ve toured extensively in the US and Europe, including the Baltimore Round Robin tours and opening for and performing in Dan Deacon’s large ensemble.

For their effort, Future Islands have mastered their style, which Rolling Stone describes as, “adding punishing heft to simple pop melodies, making blippy electropop sound oddly confrontational.” Future Islands calls is “Post-Wave,” taking in part from the emotional fragility of New Wave and coupling it with the power and drive of Post-Punk. Their upcoming Thrill Jockey debut LP, In Evening Air, will be their first proper and timely US album release.

Future Islands’ music is spearheaded by Welmers, whose layers of synths and drums create the landscape for Cashion’s punching-strum bass guitar, that pulses and fights, creating noise and bliss. Herring, who has been called “one of the most magnetic frontmen in indie rock,” finds his space in between. Carving through the music, at times, with a whispering croon, and at others, with a deathly wail.

NOW AVAILABLE : A limited neon pink vinyl pressing of Future Islands' 2010 debut Thrill Jockey release.  Free download coupon included.  In stock and shipping now.

The album is packaged in a special Gatefold jacket with revamped artwork and each comes an over sized/double-sided poster, never printed before. The album has also been remastered specifically for vinyl by Paul Gold at Salt Mastering

"We're Down Til We're Underground" by Give Up The Ghost was originally released by Equal Vision Records on September 23rd, 2003. Produced by Jim Siegel (Blood For Blood, Slapshot) and Tim Cossar, "We're Down…" is true milestone of a hardcore album. Encapsulating the personal growth, strife, and struggle of the band members that helped to create it. From the first strummed notes of opening instrumental "(It's Sometimes Like It Never Started)" the album feels intensely personal and thematic. In many ways, it is as if we are listening to the beat of the open heart of the creators. Because of this, it's difficult to pinpoint any high point in the music and lyrical content. Every song on "We're Down Til' We're Underground" effortlessly carries intense emotional weight in all it's layers. After all, it's an album born out of pressure and pain more so than most hardcore records (past or present) will likely ever be.

Tilts - Cuatro Hombres

The St. Louis quartet TILTS return with 10 brand new tracks of killer rock and roll on Cuatro Hombres, with just enough spice to keep things nice! Guitarist/vocalist Andrew Elstner splits his time between TILTS and TORCHE and can sing like a mofo! These soaring vocals land atop catchy songs both heavy and melodic.

Once again, the band's drummer Ken McCray self-recorded this at Marmadook Studios, then had Richmond, Virginia engineer Ian Whalen (RAH BRAHS, TOMBS, LAMB OF GOD) mix the beast. James Plotkin (ISIS, CAVE IN, THOU) carefully mastered the final banger specifically for vinyl, and separately for the included high-quality digital download.

Rounded out by bassist Shawn Hart and guitar player Andy White, TILTS triumphantly deliver a seriously infectious sophomore album with 10 songs of "ALL KILLER NO FILLER" rock music! Like the debut LP, Tom Huck's brilliant woodcut artwork adorns the sleeve, with righteous pink/clear color vinyl inside.

Friendly Fires - Pala

Named after the island in Aldous Huxley’s 1962 novel ‘Island’, ‘Pala’ has been produced by a mixture of Friendly Fires themselves and Paul Epworth. The album was recorded over the past twelve months in various locations including London, St. Albans, Rye in Sussex, Yvetot in France, and New York

It’s set to build on the success of Friendly Fires’ eponymous debut album that was released in September 2008 and went on to sell over 200,000 copies in the UK, picking up a Mercury Prize nomination and two Brit Awards nominations along the way.

The artwork for ‘Pala’ features a beautiful parrot photograph from one of famed fashion photographer Sølve Sundsbø’s personal projects, while the album also sees musical collaborations with The Harlem Gospel Choir (on ‘Hurting’) and Holy Ghost’s Alex Frankel (who plays Clavinet on ‘True Love’)
