Deep Purple's Jon Lord Dead

The legendary keyboard player Jon Lord of Deep Purple has died at the age of 71, after suffering a pulmonary embolism. He had been suffering from pancreatic cancer and was surrounded by his family at the London Clinic.

Lord founded Deep Purple in 1968, and along with drummer Ian Pace was a constant in the band during their existence from 1968 to 1970. He co-wrote many of the band's songs, including the epic "Smoke On The Water."  He remained with the band when they reformed in 1970, until his retirement in 2002.

Mumford & Sons Reveal New Album Details

Mumford & Sons have recently announced the title of their second album.   'Babel' will be released on September 24.

A number of the tracks, including "Lover's Eyes" and "Ghosts That We Knew" have been played in the band's live shows throughout their recent tours.

Speaking about the album, the band said: "We are more than excited to release 'Babel' into the world. We had started writing new songs well before we got into the studio to record. At first, we peeled ourselves off the road quite reluctantly. We love playing live, obviously, but it had also become an important part of our creative process, we had been writing and rehearsing in soundchecks, and sort of 'roadtesting' new songs on our very gracious audiences."

Celebrate Bob Marley's Life and Musical Legacy With a New Collection of Dubs Disc Set

IN DUB VOL. 1 to Be Released July 31st

SANTA MONICA, CA--(Marketwire - Jul 16, 2012) - IN DUB VOL. 1, the first in a series of collections of classic, rare and new dub excursions from the Bob Marley & The Wailers catalog, will be released physically for the first time on July 31st, 2012 by Island/Tuff Gong/UMe. This collection was previously released in digital format only in 2010 with several tracks making their CD/vinyl debut. The debut set features 10 classic dub remixes and a newly-crafted dub version of the classic "Lively Up Yourself" entitled "Lively Up Your Dub," by foundation dub mix engineer Scientist, exclusive to this package.

Bob Marley remains reggae's greatest icon and a monumental musical figure of our time and continues to inspire and influence people around the world. One of the most charismatic and challenging performers in history, Marley was a musical, political and even spiritual figure of mythical proportions -- both poet and prophet, hero and rebel -- whose legacy continues to resonate as his music is revealed and rediscovered by new generations.

The Third World's first superstar and arguably one of the most recognizable human beings on the planet, reggae giant Bob Marley was also celebrated this year in a film, MARLEY, by Academy Award-winning director Kevin Macdonald ("One Day In September," "State Of Play," "The Last King Of Scotland," "Touching The Void" and "Life In A Day"). Produced by Steve Bing (Shangri-La Entertainment) and Charles Steel (Cowboy Films), and executive produced by Bob's son Ziggy Marley and Island Records founder Chris Blackwell, MARLEY featured stunning live performances, intimate interviews with friends and family, and rare documentary footage -- all of which tells the definitive story of the superstar who rose from the ghetto to become one of the greats of popular music before dying tragically young at the height of his fame. MARLEY will debut on DVD and Blu-ray on August 7, 2012.

As an integral companion piece to this critically acclaimed documentary, the official soundtrack from MARLEY was released as a 2-CD collection and a special 3-LP vinyl set. The CD contains 24 tracks, hand-picked by the Marley family and Blackwell, gathering together some of the most significant musical moments of one of the most beloved and cherished artists of all-time. Featured are classic studio recordings, a special Kindred Spirit dub mix of "Exodus" and tracks from various live performances including, for the first time on record, the 1978 One Love Peace Concert performance of "Jammin'" during which Marley joined the hands of bitter political rivals Michael Manley and Edward Seaga, a gesture which went some way towards restoring peace to a strife-torn Jamaica.

"No one in rock and roll has left a musical legacy that matters more or one that matters in such fundamental ways," wrote music writer Robert Palmer upon Marley's posthumous induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Attesting to the power and relevance of that music, Bob Marley lives on.

Jimi Hendrix - Come On (Let the Good Times Roll) / Calling All the Devil’s Children 7” Single
jmi-Hendrix-mini

The second installment in Sundazed’s landmark Jimi Hendrix singles series!

Sundazed presents the second installment in its landmark Jimi Hendrix singles series, which honors the legendary guitar icon’s singular musical genius by presenting it in the same medium in which it was originally experienced by fans: vinyl.

The series’ latest release once again pairs two vintage Hendrix tracks, combining his visionary reading of Earl King’s R&B classic “Come On (Let the Good Times Roll)” alongside the Hendrix original “Calling All the Devil’s Children.” The former track, which Hendrix recorded for his classic 1968 album Electric Ladyland, demonstrates Jimi’s close ties to his blues and R&B roots. The latter demonstrates his skill with long-form improvisation, as well as his playful sense of humor.

Both tracks feature the classic Jimi Hendrix Experience lineup of Hendrix himself on guitar and vocals, Noel Redding on bass and Mitch Mitchell on drums. As with every release in the series, the new single features a color picture sleeve incorporating seldom seen Hendrix photos that capture the legendary artist’s distinctive persona and pioneering spirit.

This new release is the second in Sundazed Music’s historic partnership with Experience Hendrix, L.L.C., which launched in April 2012 with a single featuring two rare Hendrix performances from a pair of 1967 BBC sessions.

In a recording career that spanned only three and a half years prior to his tragic death in 1970 at the age of 27, Jimi Hendrix revolutionized the role of the electric guitar and radically altered the face of contemporary music. He became rock’s first guitar superstar, with an effortless charisma that matched his visionary talent to an intensely original performing style. More than four decades after his passing, his influence upon contemporary music looms as large as ever.
