Fleet Foxes Announce New Album
Alt-folk darlings the Fleet Foxes have recently announced their much-anticipated follow-up to their 2008 debut album. The Seattle-based group will release 'Helplessness Blues' on May 3 through Sub Pop. The title track, which indicates that the sophomore record will feature more delicate harmonies and instrumentation, is being offered as a free download on SubPop.com.
Once again, the band recorded songs with Phil Ek, who produced their first album and both of their EPs. Once again, the music features acoustic guitars, yearning choruses and five-part vocal harmonies. And once again the cover art – this time by painter Chris Alderson, not Pieter Bruegel the Elder – evokes a homepsun nostalgia.
Fleet Foxes have also announced a short North American tour this spring. The 15-date trek begins April 30 in Vancouver, Canada.

AEROSMITH Guitarist Hopes To Complete New Studio Album This Year
AEROSMITH guitarist Brad Whitford has told the Boston Herald that the band is "really starting from scratch" during the songwriting sessions for the group's new album at the home recording studio of longtime collaborator/producer Marti Frederiksen.
"We basically go in the studio, just stone cold, and try to come out at the end of the day with another song, and so far it's worked great," Whitford said. "It has been great working at Marti's. His whole house is basically geared toward making music, so that's what we are doing all day long."

THE CHARIOT Seven-Inch Single Detailed
Georgia's THE CHARIOT is preparing to release limited-edition seven-inch vinyl album. Side A features two tracks. Track 1 is entitled "Music of a Grateful Heart" and is a brand new unreleased track from the "Long Live" recording sessions. Track 2 , "Graciously" is an alternate and extended version of the "Long Live" track "The Audience". Side B of the seven-inch is an etching of the band's familiarly infamous skull logo. The vinyl comes in four different colors with 250 pieces pressed per color (total of 1,000 copies). Each color set is hand-numbered 1 through 250. Each set will be available for purchase in a different way; one being available only at official tour dates from the band themselves, one is available at the official pre-order with a limited time bundle package, one will be made available exclusively through Hot Topic, while the remaining color set will be available to purchase at local music retail stores.

Did You Know?
more stuff everybody should know...
Every time you lick a stamp, you're consuming 1/10 of a calorie...really, is licking stamps a dietary problem for some?
Porcupines float in water (especially when they are dead)....
The poison-arrow frog has enough poison to kill about 2,200 people...powerful frog, eh?
A polar bear's skin is black. Its fur is not white, but actually clear.
Rubber bands last longer when refrigerated.
Peanuts are one of the ingredients of dynamite.
The longest one-syllable word in the English language is "screeched."
Donald Duck comics were banned in Finland because he doesn't wear pants. Same reason I am not allowed there anymore....
China has more English speakers than the United States.
and on to music history for the day:
The 7" 45 rpm record was introduced in 1949 by RCA as a smaller, more durable and higher-fidelity replacement for the 78 rpm shellac discs.
In 1954, backed by his Jazz ensemble, Big Joe Turner records the original version of "Shake, Rattle and Roll". The tune will top the Billboard R&B chart next June, but did not cross over to the Pop chart. Some of the original lyrics, that would have been considered highly sexual at the time, were changed when Bill Haley recorded the song five months later.
In 1963, 17 year-old Neil Young performed his first professional date at a country club in Winnipeg.
In 1964, Beatlemania comes to America when "I Want To Hold Your Hand" becomes the first of twenty Billboard number one hits for The Beatles. It would stay on top for seven weeks, with world wide sales of fifteen million copies.
At Abbey Road studios in London in 1967, The Beatles started work on a new song "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." It wasn't until The Beatles had recorded the song that Paul McCartney had the idea to make the song the thematic pivot for their forthcoming album.
Sgt Pepper tidbits:
3 days after the album came out, Jimi Hendrix opened a concert with this. McCartney and Harrison were both there, and were very impressed that Hendrix learned it so quickly.
The hand-painted drum skin used on the cover of the Sgt Pepper album was sold at Christie's House in London on 10th July 2008 for £541,250 ($1,071,000) - setting a record for non-lyrics Beatles memorabilia.
The album was heavily produced and took 129 days and about 700 hours to complete. The Beatles first album, 'Please Please Me,' was recorded in less than 10 hours.
The crowd noise was dubbed in. The Beatles had stopped touring by then
In 1969, Tommy James and the Shondells started a two week run at #1 on the US singles chart with "Crimson And Clover."
The Eagles released Greatest Hits 1971-1975, now one of the biggest records in history, was released in 1976.
In 2004, Justin Timberlake caused a huge uproar when he tugged at Janet Jackson's outfit and revealed her left breast live on US TV during the half-time show of Superbowl XXXVIII (38). Four days later, that scene would become the most searched for image in the history of the internet.
In 2008, US space agency Nasa announced that "Across the Universe" by the Beatles was to become the first song ever to be beamed directly into space. The track would be transmitted through the Deep Space Network - a network of antennas - on the 40th anniversary of the song being recorded, being aimed at the North Star, Polaris, 431 light-years from Earth. In a message to Nasa, Sir Paul McCartney said the project was an "amazing" feat. "Well done, Nasa," he added. "Send my love to the aliens. All the best, Paul."
Born on this day in 1948, Rick James, US singer. Found dead at his Los Angeles home on August 6, 2004.
Born today in 1954, Mike Campbell, guitar, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
