In Rock (1970): "Among the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever"  - Q Magazine 2000

In Rock is the fourth studio album by Deep Purple and the first with the classic Mk II lineup.

In Rock was their breakthrough album in Europe and would peak at #4 in the UK, remaining in the charts for months. The album was supported by the hugely successful In Rock World Tour which lasted 15 months. For the first time all tracks are credited to the five members of the band.  The 10-minute epic "Child in Time", perhaps the most famous song from this record, would be a concert staple for years.

FIREBALL (1971):  "..showcases the progressive rock and tightly meshed ensemble work that   characterizes Deep Purple at their best"

Fireball is the fifth album by Deep Purple  It would become the first of the band's three UK #1 albums. The album contains seven sizzling cuts. The boogie-inspired "Strange Kind of Woman" single reached #8 in the UK and became a live set fan-favorite up to the present day. The album ncludes such Deep Purple classics as "Anyone's Daughter," "The Mule,""No One Came" and the title track.

MACHINE HEAD (1972): "One of the "100 Greatest Heavy Metal Albums of All Time...an essential hard rock album for any rock music collection."Machine Head is the sixth studio album released by Deep Purple.

Machine Head is often cited as a major influence in the early development of the heavy metal music genre. Commercially, it was Deep Purple's most successful album, topping the charts in several countries following its release. The album reached # 1 in the UK and stayed in the top 40 for 20 weeks. It reached # 7 in the US, remaining on the Billboard 200 for 118 weeks. Includes the Deep Purple classics, "Highway Star" and "Space Truckin'" and "Smoke on the Water" which reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100.

WHO DO WE THINK WE ARE (1973): "This is killer Rock 'N Roll...a must have for Deep Purple fans"
Who Do We Think We Are is the seventh studio album by Deep Purple and their last album with singer Ian Gillan until the reunited in 1984. The original album artwork has many quoted articles from newspapers.

One of them is from Melody Maker July 1972, where Ian Paice says:"Deep Purple get piles of passionate letters either violently against or pro the group. The angry ones generally start off "Who do Deep Purple think they are..." The album hit # 4 in the UK and # 15 in the US and Deep Purple became the best selling artist in the USA in 1973.

Genesis - Selling England By The Pound

Originally released in February 1973, "Selling England By The Pound" was the bands biggest selling album so far. Still with singer Peter Gabriel it included the bands first encounter with the singles chart with "I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe).  The album cover is a painting by Betty Swanwick called The Dream. The original painting did not feature a lawn mower; the band had Swanwick add it later as an allusion to the song "I Know What I Like."  In 2012, the album ranked seventh in Rolling Stone's "Readers' Poll: Your Favorite Prog Rock Albums of All Time."

Vinyl Record News & Music Notes

from our friends at mute

Deep Cuts and The Knife Available for the FIRST TIME EVER IN THE UNITED STATES on vinyl 10/29/13

For the first time ever The Knife’s self-titled debut album as well as their extraordinary Deep Cuts are now available on vinyl in the United States via Rabid/Brille Records (via Mute).

In 2001, Karin and Olof Dreijer made their musical debut with a self-titled album on their own label Rabid Records. Deep Cuts, their follow up to The Knife was released in 2003 but not released in the US until 2006. Both albums were only available on CD until now.

With tracks such as “Bird”, “A Lung” “Pass It On” “The Cop” and “Heartbeats” The Knife quickly cemented themselves as pioneers in the music community. Laying the groundwork for Silent Shout and this year’s Shaking the Habitual, The Knife and Deep Cuts are a welcome re-visit to Karin and Olof’s earliest innovations.

180g LP Box Set, Housed in a Slipcase with a Gold Foil Stamp of the Band’s Logo!

Includes Hotel California - Ranked Among the 10 Best-Selling Albums Ever! Over 4 Hours of Music!

Rolling Stone 100 Greatest Artists - Rated 75/100!

With five number one singles, fourteen Top 40 hits, and four number one albums, the Eagles were among the most successful recording artists of the 1970s. At the end of the 20th century, two of those albums -- Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975) and Hotel California -- ranked among the ten best-selling albums ever. Though most of its members came from outside California, the group was closely identified with a country- and folk-tinged sound that initially found favor in Los Angeles during the late '60s, as championed by such bands as the Flying Burrito Brothers and Poco (both of which contributed members to the Eagles). But the band also drew upon traditional rock & roll styles and, in their later work, helped define the broadly popular rock sound that became known as classic rock. As a result, the Eagles achieved a perennial appeal among generations of music fans who continued to buy their records many years after they had split up, which helped inspire the Eagles' reunion in the mid-'90s.

In September 1971, Frey, Henley, Leadon, and Meisner signed with manager David Geffen, agreeing to record for his soon-to-be-launched label, Asylum Records; soon after, they adopted the name the Eagles. In February 1972, they flew to England and spent two weeks recording their debut album, Eagles, with producer Glyn Johns. It was released in June, reaching the Top 20 and going gold in a little over a year and a half on the strength of two Top Ten hits -- "Take It Easy" and "Witchy Woman" -- and one Top 20 hit, "Peaceful Easy Feeling."

The Eagles toured as an opening act throughout 1972 and into early 1973, when they returned to England to record their second LP, Desperado, a concept album about outlaws. Produced by Glyn Johns and released in April 1973, it reached the Top 40 and went gold in a little less than a year and a half, spawning the Top 40 single "Tequila Sunrise" in the process. The title track, though never released as a single, became one of the band's better-known songs and was included on the Eagles' first hits collection.

After touring to support Desperado's release, the Eagles again convened a recording session with Glyn Johns for their third album. Their desire to make harder rock music clashed with Johns' sense of them as a country-rock band, however, and they split from the producer after recording two tracks, "You Never Cry Like a Lover" and "The Best of My Love." After an early 1974 tour opened by singer/guitarist Joe Walsh, the band decided to hire Walsh's producer, Bill Szymczyk, who handled the rest of the sessions for On the Border. Szymczyk brought in a session guitarist, Don Felder (born in Gainesville, FL, on September 21, 1947), an old friend of Bernie Leadon's who so impressed the rest of the band that he was recruited to join the group.

On the Border was released in March 1974. It went gold and reached the Top Ten in June, the Eagles' fastest-selling album yet. The first single, "Already Gone," reached the Top 20 the same month. But the most successful song on the LP -- the one that broke them through to a much larger audience -- was "The Best of My Love," which was released as a single in November. It hit number one on the easy listening charts in February 1975 and topped the pop charts a month later.

The Eagles' fourth album, One of These Nights, was an out-of-the-box smash. Released in June 1975, it went gold the same month and hit number one in July. Moreover, it contains the chart-topping title song, "Lyin' Eyes," and "Take It to the Limit." "Lyin' Eyes" won the 1975 Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group, or Chorus, and the Eagles also earned Grammy nominations for Album of the Year (One of These Nights) and Record of the Year ("Lyin' Eyes").

The group went on a headlining world tour, beginning with the U.S. and expanding into Europe. But on December 20, 1975, it was announced that Bernie Leadon had quit the band, and Joe Walsh (born in Wichita, KS, on November 20, 1947) was brought in as his replacement. He immediately joined the tour, which continued to the Far East in early 1976.

It took the Eagles 18 months to follow One of These Nights with their fifth album, Hotel California. Released in December 1976, the record was certified platinum in one week, hit number one in January 1977, and eventually sold over 10,000,000 copies. The singles "New Kid in Town" and "Hotel California" hit number one, and "Life in the Fast Lane" made the Top 20. Meanwhile, "Hotel California" won the 1977 Grammy for Record of the Year and was nominated for Song of the Year; the album itself was nominated for Album of the Year and for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group, or Chorus.

The Eagles embarked on a world tour in March 1977 that began with a month in the U.S., followed by a month in Europe and the Far East, then returned to the U.S. in May for stadium dates. At the end of the tour in September, Randy Meisner left the band; he was replaced by Timothy B. Schmit (born in Sacramento, CA, November 20, 1947), formerly of Poco, in which he also had replaced Meisner.

The Eagles began working on a new album in March 1978 and took nearly a year and a half to complete it. The Long Run was released in September 1979. It hit number one and was certified platinum after four months, eventually earning multi-platinum certifications. "Heartache Tonight," its lead-off single, hit number one, and "I Can't Tell You Why" and "The Long Run" became Top Ten hits. "Heartache Tonight" won the 1979 Grammy for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

There's no denying the Eagles helped define the 1970s with insanely catchy tracks like "Hotel California," "Life In The Fast Lane," and "Take It To The Limit." Get back that peaceful, easy Southern California feeling with their 6-LP set, THE COMPLETE STUDIO ALBUMS, featuring EAGLES, DESPERADO, ON THE BORDER, ONE OF THESE NIGHTS, HOTEL CALIFORNIA, and THE LONG RUN.

The Self-Titled "Eagles" Album will include the Original Fold-Out Gatefold Design. "Hotel California" will include the poster that was included in the original release as a washed out black and white, but will now be in full vibrant color as the photographer intended!

Tout Croche - Super Silent

Super Silent is the debut album from Tout Croche. Known for their loud and noisy live improvs, the duo has released this recording in collaboration with The Silent Howl label. The result is an 8 track LP collection of a series of eclectic pieces ranging from chanson française to power electronics, including a  remarkable interpretation of Neil Young's Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black) in which the song is transformed into a dark, slow and heavy rock 'n' roll monster. With the track Dead or Fade Away, the duo mix punk anger with drum and bass rhythms in an energised frenzy that takes noise to a new level whilst The Silent Howl ventures into Hecker-esque ambient soundscapes  . Taken as a whole, the work is reminiscent of the playful sonic explorations of the legendary German band Faust, incorporating a musique concrète vocabulary and a noise/rock aesthetic that is provided by their gutsy  improvisation. Guest appearances from Nicolas Bernier and Rodrigo Constanzo increases the scale and sonic openess of the project. The release is available as a limited edition 180g vinyl and as a digital download.

Hear it and purchase it on The Silent Howl Bandcamp!

Tout Croche is Stephen Harvey and Dominic Thibault making electronic music. A haven of post-genre sonic experimentation, music making that marvels at noise from beautiful ambience to digital distortion. Coming from different musical backgrounds, they found commonality in improvisation and noise. Since October 2011, the duo have been actively developing a live set-up around the use and mis-use of the electric guitar and a rack of digital FXs routed together to create surprising sonic textures. Tout Croche enjoy playing live where their energy and intensity can be perceived by the audience.

Dexter Gordon – Daddy Plays the Horn – Bethlehem Records/ PurePleasure vinyl

Prime bop from Dexter Gordon…

Dexter Gordon – Daddy Plays the Horn – Bethlehem Records/PurePleasure BCP36 – mono audiophile vinyl reissue,  (1955)  ***½:

(Dexter Gordon – tenor sax; Kenny Drew – piano; Leroy Vinnegar – bass; Lawrence Marable – drums)

Before Dexter Gordon became more known as a mainstream tenor saxophonist with a strong blues influence, as well as a master balladeer; in the early ’50s he held his own with beboppers like Wardell Gray in bop sax duels.

For a 1955 Hollywood session, Gordon was recorded on Bethlehem Records with a rhythm section of pianist Kenny Drew, walking bassist extraordinaire Leroy Vinnegar, and drummer Lawrence Marable. Song selection was a mixture of standard ballads and tunes written by Charlie Parker and Dexter himself.

This session has been re-released by the English audiophile LP label, PurePleasure, and remastered by Ray Staff at Air Mastering in London. It has also been put out on CD by Verse Records (not to be mistaken for Verve Records).

On the title track, a twelve-bar blues taken at a mid-tempo, Dexter sets a comfortable mood strongly supported by Drew, who gets an extended soulful solo. “Confirmation,” a Bird bop staple has Dex blowing a little less frenetic than the standard for that time period. Again Kenny Drew gets to have several full choruses, almost getting equal time with Gordon, making the tune as much his as the leader. I dug Leroy’s walking bass lines here. Dexter’s strongest work is on the ballads “Darn that Dream” as well as on “Autumn in New York.” Gordon has few tenor peers who could match him for the lyricism that these ballads deserve. Only Ben Webster comes to mind.

Other highlights can be found on “Number Four” and “You Can Depend on Me,” with the former a medium tempo tune, and the latter having a little more heat. Both show Dex fully in command and a true master of the tenor, which he would continue to demonstrate for another three decades. The time given to Kenny Drew for some extended solos is a nice bonus on this LP. The remastering is first rate as each musician is warmly presented in the sound mix.

TrackList:
Side A: Daddy Plays the Horn, Confirmation, Darn That Dream
Side B: Number Four, Autumn in New York, You Can Depend on Me

Legendary Stiff Records Releases "Ten Big Stiffs" - A Limited Edition Much Anticipated 7" Box Set

Featuring Plastmatics, The Untouchables, Wreckless Eric, Tracey Ullman + more

Released on Razor & Tie Records November 29, 2013

Founded in 1976, STIFF RECORDS was at the heart of the new wave, bringing the world artists as diverse as Elvis Costello, Kirsty MacColl and Ian Dury and what is generally regarded as the first ever punk rock single, “New Rose” by The Damned. The label set the yardstick for music business marketing, with artwork by Barney Bubbles and an array of memorable slogans, not least "If It Ain't Stiff, It Ain't Worth A Fuck".  Stiff continues to this day, with the 2012 UK #1 single “Bom Bom” by Sam And The Womp and a back catalog comprising 150 singles and more than 50 albums of revered 70s and 80s pop, punk and rock.

This LIMITED EDITION 7” Box Set "Ten Big Stiffs" takes you on a tour of the Stiff catalog, and ) which includes ten 7-inch releases, all chosen by Stiff Records, featuring some of the most recognizable tracks from  the label throughout the years: Tenpole Tudor's “Swords of a Thousand Men” (as heard in Aardman Animations' Pirates! in 2012 and in TV ads for EA Games' FIFA 11 in 2011), Tracey Ullman's “They Don't Know” (#8 US hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1983), Wreckless Eric's “Whole Wide World” (MacDonalds TV ads in 2012) and Desmond Dekker's “Israelites” (a classic hit featured in Drugstore Cowboy).

Set for release on November 29, as a Record Store Day exclusive in North America through indie stories via Razor & Tie Records  Ten Big Stiffs is an incredible collector's item, the original sleeve artwork is recreated on each, with the exception of Mint Juleps – Docklands. This is ‘the Stiff 7-inch that never was”.  Scheduled to  have been a 7-inch release back in the day, it originally got overlooked, so collectors are always asking for it. The set also includes Plasmatics, Wreckless Eric, The Untouchables and more. (Full track list below)

Experience the history of STIFF RECORDS, and all the artists featured on this release, through a series of videos produced by award-winning film-maker NIGEL DICK.  The videos will be rolled out over the next month at www.10BigStiffs.com. The British born Dick began his career at Stiff Records as a Press Officer.  He has since directed over 300 music videos and seventeen documentaries, won three MTV Awards, three MVPA awards, two Billboard Awards and a Brit Award.

TEN BIG STIFFS – TRACK BY TRACK

PINK FAIRIES
Between The Lines / Spoiling For A Fight

A remnant of London’s psychedelic club scene, Pink Fairies had already been recording for five years prior to joining Stiff, where they recorded their one and only release “Between The Lines” with new guitarist Larry Wallis.  The band left Stiff after this single, but Wallis, after joining Lemmy in the first incarnation of Motorhead, became an in-house producer at Stiff.

WRECKLESS ERIC
Whole Wide World / Semaphore Signals

Produced by Nick Lowe, who also played bass on the track, “Whole Wide World” is probably the best known track of English rock / new wave singer Wreckess Eric.  More than two decades after its release, it was included on Mojo Magazine’s list of best punk rock singles of all time!  The song has since been covered by Lightning Seeds, The Monkees, The Proclaimers, and Paul Westerberg, among others.

JONA LEWIE
You’ll Always Find Me In The Kitchen at Parties / Bureaucrats

Stiff spotted ingenious songwriter Jona Lewie as he experienced success as a member of Brett Marvin and The Thunderbolts and off-shoots Terry Dactyl and The Dinosaurs.  His career with Stiff spanned five years, and saw the release of 11 singles, the fourth of which was the synth-pop masterpiece “You’ll Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties”, which made it into the UK Top 20.

DESMOND DEKKER
Israelites / Why Fight?

A legend in Jamaican music, Desmond Dekker had a successful touring business, but only sporadic hits through the 60’s and 70’s.  After joining Stiff, Dave Robinson quickly teamed up Dekker with The Rumour and other Jamaican artists who backed him on new recordings of various old hits to create the album Black & Dekker, which included the single “Israelites”, which reached number 10 in the UK.

PLASMATICS
Monkey Suit / Squirm (Live)

Led by the ‘Queen of Shock Rock’, Wendy O Williams, Plasmatics, with their porno sleeves, S&M styling, fusion of punk and heavy metal, were the most parent-frightening and gloriously perverted band a teenager could find in the 80s.  Released in 1980, “Butcher Baby” would have been far better suited for the year 2000.  A band definitely ahead of its’ time.

TENPOLE TUDOR
Swords of a Thousand Men / Love and Food

After appearing in the Sex Pistols’ film The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle, Malcolm McLaren told Ed Tudor-Pole he could “either form a band or go into pornography”, hence Tenpole Tudor was formed.  On Stiff, the band delivered six singles, including the UK chart hit “Swords of a Thousand Men”, as well as two albums.

TRACEY ULLMAN
They Don’t Know / The B-Side

As part of the BBC comedy trio Three Of A Kind, Tracey Ullman was already a household name before joining Stiff in 1983 to record 60’s throwback, bubblegum-pop singles.  The first three, “Breakaway”, “They Don’t Know”, and “Move Over Darling”, all went Top 10 in the UK, with “They Don’t Know” also hitting number 8 in the U.S.

KIRSTY MACCOLL
A New England / Patrick

Originally spotted by Stiff singing backing vocals for the punk band Drug Addix, Kirsty MacColl was signed to a solo deal and released her first single “They Don’t Know” in 1979.  After leaving Stiff for Polydor in 1981, singer-songwriter MacColl returned to the label to work with Tracey Ullman, who had a hit with a cover of “They Don’t Know”, on a cover of her own, Billy Bragg’s “A New England”, which reached number 7 on the UK charts.  This version includes two extra verses specially written for her by Bragg for the release.

THE UNTOUCHABLES
(I Spy For The) FBI / Whiplash

Part of the early 80’s Silver Lake, Los Angeles, ska revival scene, The Untouchables cut their teeth playing covers of the Blue Magoos and the Small Faces.  Upon signing to Stiff, they recorded a few singles, including “(I Spy For The) FBI”, which charted at number 59 in the UK.

MINT JULEPS
Docklands / Docklands 12” Version

The Stiff 7” That Never Was!

An all-female group centered around the four Picket sisters toured with everyone from Sister Sledge to Billy Bragg, as well as singing backup for Bob Geldof and Dr. Feelgood before joining Stiff.  Their soulful, a cappella style fused with earthenware pop songs set them apart from other similar acts.  The single “Docklands” has only previously been released as a 12” (BUY264), never before as a 7”.

Rory Gallagher - Kickback City

Throughout his life Rory Gallagher was a great fan of the crime noir genre and much of his work was inspired by the characters and themes found in the cult detective novels of authors such as Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett.

Examples of Rory's best crime inspired material are central to the Kickback City album, providing the soundtrack to Ian Rankin's newly created novella 'The Lie Factory'. Rory's lyrics and song titles are cleverly woven in to the story.

The unique album Kickback City is completed by the stunning visuals created by illustrator Timothy Truman (DC Comics / First Comics). Also a life-long Rory Gallagher fan, the musician, writer and illustrator has been working in the graphic novel industry since the 80's and is internationally known for his art design for the Grateful Dead.

  • 180 gram audiophile vinyl
  • Includes 44-page comicbook
  • 4 Crime Scene postcards
  • 1 Studio LP: a compilation of Rory Gallagher's film noir influenced songs
  • 1 Bonus LP: Kickback City Live
  • Includes audiobook CD "The Lie Factory", narrated by Aidan Quinn

Ramones - It's Alive

Clocking in at just under 54 minutes, It's Alive by The Ramones is jam-packed with classic Ramones material, 28 songs in total. The band recorded this set on New Year's Eve in 1977 at the Rainbow Theater in London, in front of an ecstatic crowd.

The story goes that during their UK tour 4 concerts were recorded, but the New Year's Eve performance was chosen for release as a live album because no less than 10 rows of seats were thrown at the stage after the concert and it was considered the best of the performances at the venue.

In 2005, It's Alive was ranked number 279 in Rock Hard magazine's book of The 500 Greatest Rock & Metal Albums of All Time. Check out some live footage here: http://youtu.be/OO2ROJ6pr2w
180 gram audiophile vinyl  Gatefold sleeve

The Meters - Cabbage Alley

The 4th Meters album marked their departure from Josie Records and was released on the Reprise label in 1972. Cabbage Alley once again proved that The Meters were one of the finest, rawest Funk groups around.

Hailing from the soggy streets of New Orleans, the Meters essentially invented the second line groove, influencing Funk music like no other artist (OK, aside from a singer by the name of James Brown). These cats are essentially one unified rhythm section, with expertly timed drum breaks, bass driven grooves, bluesy chicken scratch guitars and Southern singalong choruses.
180 gram audiophile vinyl  Includes bonus tracks "Chug Chug Chug-A-Lug (Push And Shove)" Part I & II

John Mellencamp - Lonesome Jubilee

The follow-up to Scarecrow [MOVLP508], The Lonesome Jubilee (1987) expanded on John Mellencamp's musical and lyrical vision on life in the US heartland. Musically, Mellencamp adds more Country and Folk influences than on its predecessor, including fiddles and accordeons. These rich textures are the basis for Mellencamp's lyrics dealing with America's working class life.

This is a must have album for fans of Steve Earle, CCR, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty.  180 gram audiophile vinyl Insert and Gatefold sleeve

Bread - Baby Im A Want You

Bread's 4th album Baby I'm A Want You (1972) was a massive hit, peaking at #3 on the US charts. The core songwriters of Bread, David Gates and James Griffin, delivered a collection of Pop Rock songs that rank among the best that Bread's extensive discography has to offer.

Serious belters like "Mother Freedom" (which also proved a successful single) and "Down On My Knees" with its hard rocking rhythm easily stand the test of time and still sound fresh with every spin. The heavier material is cleverly alternated with softer numbers such as the title track.

This is the first reissue of this classic Rock album since 1973! 180 gram audiophile vinyl and Insert

Death Cab For Cutie - Transatlanticism - Vinyl 2-LP 2013 (PRE-ORDER 10-29)

As musical lunacy goes, things have gotten as crazy as it gets for Death Cab for Cutie since 2002's You Can Play These Songs with Chords compilation. A wildly successful tour with Dismemberment Plan, a collaboration for singer Ben Gibbard with emo-electronic guru Dntel under the Postal Service moniker, and a whole new legion of fans swooning to Gibbard's lyrics as if he were a modern day answer to Kiss Me-era Robert Smith have all amassed considerable hype around Transatlanticism. But the group proves themselves more than equal to the task, answering the call and proving the cynics wrong with their most focused and most mature work in their entire catalog. Transatlanticism wastes absolutely no time and dives in head first with "The New Year," one of the most melodramatic openings to an album since the Smashing Pumpkins' "Tonight, Tonight" from Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. The mellow, mixed-meter percussion and dense atmosphere of "Lightness" is a brilliant lead into the pop-happy "Expo '86" and "The Sound of Settling" before setting up the climatic and intensely dramatic title track. Unconsciously taking a page from Blur's "Sing," the hypnotic drumming and guitar call and responses through the eight-minute climax of the album are backed with a singalong finale that unquestionably will have every audience on the next tour singing along and holding up their lighters. - Rob Theakston (All Music Guide)

The Best Of Crow

With a lowdown bass lick, uptown R&B horns and surging organ punctuating a catchy chorus, "Evil Woman (Don’t Play Your Games With Me)" hit the Top 20 like a comet in 1969 and propelled Crow from Midwest club band into national touring act overnight. Thanks in part to covers by Black Sabbath and Ike and Tina Turner, it's one of the most recognizable hits of the era and, inexplicably, one of the few to not make the transition into the digital age. Until now.

Out of print for four decades, Crow's finest recordings are now available again on CD and 180-gram vinyl editions meticulously mastered from the original tapes. Long-suffering Crow fans can at last savor the best of the band's gritty run from 1969-1971, including not only "Evil Woman," but their other charting singles "Cottage Cheese," "Slow Down" and "(Don’t Try to Lay No Boogie Woogie on the) King of Rock & Roll" -- not to mention deep album cuts like "Keeps Me Running." Both formats also feature a previously unreleased demo cover of the Beatles' "When I Get Home," and the CD edition adds a previously unreleased long version of "Cottage Cheese."

Each edition comes fully equipped with memorabilia, photos and detailed liners by Doug Sheppard of Ugly Things magazine.
