Lee Ritenour’s 6 STRING THEORY

It’s hard to believe that 2010 marks 50 years since Lee Ritenour starting playing the guitar, setting in motion a career that legends are made of. A career that has earned him 19 GRAMMY® nominations, a GRAMMY Award, numerous #1 spots on guitar polls, A Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian SJ Awards, and the prestigious “Alumnus of the Year” award from USC. During his illustrious career, he has recorded over 40 albums, with 35 chart songs and was a founding member of the group Fourplay, considered the most successful group in contemporary jazz. As a young guitarist his diverse musical style became the foundation of over 3,000 sessions, covering a broad spectrum of artists ranging from his first session at 16 with the Mamas and Papas, to Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Simon & Garfunkel and Frank Sinatra. On his latest endeavor, 6 String Theory, Ritenour celebrates the instrument that has allowed him this blessing, the guitar; — by producing and assembling a star-studded tribute with the greatest and soon- to- be greatest guitarists of our time.

Set for release on Concord Records /Monster Music on June 29, 2010, for 6 String Theory, Ritenour is also among the twenty legendary world class guitarists starring on the recording, which he produced along with John Burk of the Concord Music Group. Joining him in this tribute to the guitar, the all-star line-up includes: George Benson, BB King, Slash, Steve Lukather, John Scofield, Robert Cray and Vince Gill among many other superstars. Blending rock, blues, jazz, acoustic, country and classical, they come together for a seamless project that promises to take the listener on a musical journey and exploration of the guitar. Also featured on vocals are BB King, Robert Cray, Vince Gill, Keb' Mo', Taj Majal, Joe Bonamassa and Jonny Lang.

Ritenour also had a musical mission to help launch a new star of the guitar. To do so, he partnered with Yamaha Corp., Berklee College of Music, Monster Music, D'Addario Strings, and Concord Records to hold the international talent search, The Yamaha 6 String Theory Guitar Competition. Hundreds of contestants from over 45 countries posted YouTube videos to enter the competition with six finalists from around the world (one in each musical category) selected at a finals competition in Los Angeles in March 2010. Winning top honors was 16-year-old classical guitarist, Shon Boublil, from Montréal, Canada, who as the winner made his debut recording performance on 6 String Theory and received a four-year full scholarship to the Berklee College of Music.

Ranging from 16 year old Shon, 18 year old, Joe Robinson (winner of Australia's Got Talent) and BB King in his young 80s, 6 String Theory covers it all, from amazingly talented upcoming guitarists to the greatest guitarists of our time. It also shows the high esteem for which Ritenour is held by his peers enabling him to assemble such an awe inspiring cast of musicians to celebrate their mutual love of the guitar. Blending together styles, ages and musical colors, Lee Ritenour’s 6 String Theory promises to be one of the greatest guitar recordings ever made!

Rush sued by angry fan

Iconic progressive rockers Rush have found themselves on the receiving end of a lawsuit after a disgruntled fan sued the band for cancelling a recent performance. The class action was filed by Rush fan, Christopher Langone who took umbrage with the group’s cancellation of their Chicago show due to bad weather on July 7th.

As Noise Creep reports:

“When Rush cancelled the show due poor weather, it apparently sent Langone into a tizzy and to a lawyer. He is seeking reimbursement for ticket, airfare and other expenses he incurred while making the trek across several states to see the Canadian prog warriors.

Langone is actually going as far as to claim 'breach of contract,' since the ticket and promotional materials stated the show was a 'rain or shine' event.”

Pink Floyd, Zeppelin Album Cover Artist Announces Show

Storm Thorgerson, album cover artist for Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, is presenting 20 never before seen pieces of art at the San Francisco Art Exchange for his August show Lovers of Covers.

The show will also feature Storm's classic collection of surreal images and album covers. Storm himself is visiting San Francisco Art Exchange on Saturday, August 14 at the invite only reception celebrating the opening night of his show

Also attending the reception is Storm's design partner, Aubrey Powell. The two visionaries created Hipgnosis, the design company that produced album covers for some of rocks biggest musicians and bands including Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Steve Miller Band, Alan Parsons, Peter Gabriel, Paul McCartney & Wings, The Mars Volta, Muse, The Cranberries, The Scorpions, Black Sabbath, Phish, and many more.

San Francisco Art Exchange is the world's leading dealer of Storm Thorgerson's artwork. The gallery is honored to work with an artist of such legendary status, worthy of Pink Floyd's praise.

"Storm's images were created without any of the software that we take advantage of now," said San Francisco Art Exchange co-owner Theron Kabrich. "The content of most of his amazing images were constructed scenes, assembled or built in real time as on a movie set. Long before programs like Adobe Photoshop were ever dreamt of, Storm was visualizing and developing images that boggled the mind and provoked the imagination. This leads me to believe those who invented such programs most likely would have been inspired by the imagery Storm created."

San Francisco Art Exchange has been the world's leading dealer of popular icon art and photography since 1983. It is the home of pin-up artist Alberto Vargas' collection of drawings and paintings. SFAE has developed relationships with legendary artists, photographers and celebrities around the world and has represented the art of Ronnie Wood, Rolling Stones guitarist since 1987.

In addition to imagery of and by well-known personalities, SFAE has also enjoyed long relationships with famed album cover artists Storm Thorgerson (Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin), Roger Dean (Yes, Asia), and Stanley Mouse (Grateful Dead) and some of the most significant rock and celebrity photographers in the world.

All unique artwork and rare photographs can be viewed in the gallery located in Union Square at 458 Geary Street between Mason and Taylor, and online at www.sfae.com. Gallery Hours: Mon-Wed 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Thu-Sat 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., Sun 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Gigatone is also home to Eddie Money and The Monkees' Micky Dolenz, who also will participate in a myRecordFantasy recording session this August.

Making the rounds today:

Frontier Records Celebrates 30th Anniversary As Southern California's Premier Independent Label

LOS ANGELES, CA. (Top40 Charts/ It's Alive! Media & Management) - Frontier Records (http://www.frontierrecords.com/ ), the independent Los Angeles-based record label founded in 1980, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year with their 100th release, YES L.A., scheduled for later this year. Owned and operated by Lisa Fancher, Frontier is instrumental in releasing classic punk, alternative country, paisley underground, goth and pop records that are considered classic 'must-haves' to critics and serious music collectors alike.

Among the first to tap into the Los Angeles punk scene, Frontier Records' initial success was releasing the classic Circle Jerks record Group Sex.

This was later followed by Orange County's Adolescents' debut known as the Blue Album TSOL's Dance with Me and Christian Death's Only Theatre of Pain. However, it was the eponymous debut LP from Suicidal Tendencies that spawned the unexpected MTV smash 'Institutionalized' that put Frontier on the map. If you caught the Don Johnson vehicle Miami Vice episode featuring Suicidal, you'd know the mainstream finally caught up with the underground.

In light of these early successes in punk rock, it is easy to overlook the fact that Frontier has also released well-known records from bands from a variety of genres: The Long Ryders, Thin White Rope, The Three O'Clock, Young Fresh Fellows, American Music Club and Heatmiser, Elliott Smith's first band. All of these groups and more released full-length-albums on Frontier Records that were as important to the labels evolution as any punk rock angst the label is best known for.

Perhaps most importantly, a woman starting her own independent record label in an overwhelmingly male dominated music industry in 1980 was key in shattering the notion that 'chicks can't rock'. Simply put, women didn't start their own record labels then, especially in the testosterone-drenched L.A. punk rock scene. For founder Lisa Fancher to have survived as an indie label for thirty solid years on, having seen her fair share of record distributors go belly up and put her label in financial jeopardy, makes its survival almost as impressive as its inception.

'When I founded Frontier Records in 1980, I had no idea what running a record label entailed, I just wanted to turn other people onto the local bands I loved,' said Frontier Records founder Lisa Fancher. 'It's pretty cool to have outlasted so many independent – and major – labels thirty years later but what really still makes me want to continue is to continue to release great music that still needs to be heard. Especially now!'

Having begun her music career as a teenage clerk at the Bomp Records store on Magnolia Blvd in North Hollywood— concurrently fan club president for L.A.'s The Dickies and publisher of Biff!Bang!Pow! fanzine— Lisa learned the ropes on how to jumpstart an indie label from the best possible mentors a person could have, Greg and Suzy Shaw at Bomp Records. While her first success came from releasing soon-to-be classic punk titles by new bands, Fancher gradually delved into the world of reissuing out-of-print catalog as well, including Born Innocent from Redd Kross, two legendary slabs of punk vinyl from The Weirdos: Weird World Vol. 1 & 2,Dangerhouse Vols 1 & 2 featuring crucial 45s by X, The Avengers, Weirdos, Black Randy, et al.), the Adolescents' Complete Demos 1980 – 1996 and The Middle Class' compilation Out of Vogue.

In late 2010, Frontier will re-release the digitally remastered Christian Death classic Only Theater of Pain with Rozz Williams' original artwork as well as Dangerhouse's Yes L.A. compilation and other nuggets soon to be announced. Additionally, Frontier has always been a vinyl-oriented label, which considers the limited edition colored vinyl LP their calling card – so expect more colored wax reissues in the coming months.

A 30th anniversary event honoring Frontier Records is in the works and will be announced shortly.

ABOUT FRONTIER RECORDS

Bands releasing records on Frontier include: Circle Jerks, Adolescents, The Weirdos, TSOL, China White, Redd Kross, Thin White Rope, Heatmiser, Young Fresh Fellows, Christian Death, Dharma Bums, American Music Club, The Long Ryders, The Three O'Clock, The Pontiac Brothers

Born on this day in 1944, Estelle Bennett, The Ronettes. Died at her home in Englewood, NJ on Feb 11, 2009 (age 67).

History:

Buddy Holly cuts "That’ll Be The Day" in Nashville in 1956. The track was credited to Buddy Holly & The Three-Tunes (his backing band before the Crickets). The song was re-recorded before becoming a hit.

The Beatles' first U.S. album, "Introducing The Beatles," was released in 1963. By the way, the LP is the most counterfeited album in the world, see web page that explains all the mystery here: http://www.eskimo.com/~bpentium/beatles/intro/intro.html

In 1965, Mick Jagger, Brian Jones and Bill Wyman from The Rolling Stones were each fined £5 at East Ham Magistrates Court, London after being found guilty of insulting behaviour at a Romford Road service station. The three had all urinated against a wall.

Quicksilver Messenger Service and Big Brother & the Holding Co. appeared at the Convention Hall, San Diego, California in 1967.

Vanilla Fudge made its concert debut in New York in 1967.

The Doors perform/lip-synch "Light My Fire" and "Crystal Ship" on American Bandstand in 1967.

The Byrds' "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" album was released in 1968.

In 1969, Aretha Franklin was arrested (disturbing the peace ) for causing a disturbance in a Detroit parking lot.

In 1971, John and Yoko spent the second day filming the ‘Imagine’ promotional film at their home in Tittenhurst Park Ascot, England. Today's footage included the morning walk on the grounds though the mist and John Lennon singing "Imagine" in the white room on his white piano.

"If You Really Love Me" by Stevie Wonder was released in 1971.

Just nineteen days after lead singer Jim Morrison’s untimely departure (death), the Doors were awarded a gold record for their “L.A. Woman" album in 1971.

Paul and Linda McCartney were arrested in Sweden for possession of drugs in 1972.

The Who's "Join Together" was released in 1972.

In 1977, Stiff Records released 'My Aim Is True' the debut album from Elvis Costello in the UK.

In 1979, Little Richard, now known as the Reverend Richard Pennman told his congregation about the evils of rock & roll music, declaring 'If God can save an old homosexual like me, he can save anybody.'

Former actress Martika started a two week run at #1 on the US singles chart in 1989 with "Toy Soldiers."

The soundtrack album 'Batman' by Prince started a six-week run at #1 on the US album chart in 1989.

In 1996, Donovan was forced to postpone a comeback tour of the US because of a 30-year-old marijuana conviction in the UK. American authorities delayed granting him a waiver to enter the country.

Also in 1996, the parents of a teen-age murder victim sued the band Slayer contending that the band's lyrics were "satanic" and inspired 3 teen-age boys to rape, torture and stab the girl to death. Yeah, it was the music ?.....

Simple Minds closed their official fan club in 1999 due to dwindling membership. Pretty smart.

In 2000, Oasis appeared at London's Wembley Stadium, the gig was broadcast live around the world on TV. I still don't see what all the fuss was about.......

The soundtrack to the Bob Dylan movie "Masked And Anonymous" was released in 2003. It contained new Dylan material and an eclectic collection of performers covering Dylan songs.

In 2004, Peter Frampton sued Billabong clothing company for using "baby I love your waves" as a marketing slogan. Frampton claims it is "an obvious reference" to his hit song "Baby, I Love Your Way." No kidding.

The Kerry/Edwards ticket faced another onslaught from the left in 2004 when David Crosby and Graham Nash announce they are running to be co-presidents. Regardless of the fact the Nash, born in England, can`t be president, vice president or even co-president, the pair have an interesting agenda which includes: the cleaning out of Area 51 "to address the illegal alien issue," free money and a night in the Lincoln bedroom to donors who can pay $200 grand for the privilege. I like the idea of free money.....

Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford participated in the 2005 Carlisle Summer Bike Fest. A customized motorcycle featuring images of Aerosmith members also made an appearance. The three day event took place in Carlisle, PA (of course).

In 2005, research by a car insurance company showed that listening to the wrong sort of music when driving can lead to aggression and distraction. Dr Nicola Dibben a music psychologist said “singing while driving stimulates the mind.” Songs recommended included Pulp’s "Disco 2000" and "Hey Ya" by Outcast, but the Dr said songs like The Prodigy’s "Firestarter" should be avoided.

Kinks frontman Ray Davies played Austin in 2006. The concert was taped for an episode of PBS' Austin City Limits.

Johnny Cash was at #1 on the US album chart in 2006 with ‘American V: A Hundred Highways.’ Released posthumously on July 4, the vocal parts were recorded before Cash's death, but the instruments were not recorded until 2005.

In 2007, Ja Rule and Lil Wayne were arrested after a concert in Manhattan on charges of carrying illegal firearms. The rappers were arrested separately, Rule was stopped for speeding when a weapon was discovered in his car and officers who arrested Wayne for smoking marijuana also found a pistol in his car.

Remastered versions of U2's first three albums, ‘80's "Boy," ‘81's "October" and ‘83's "War" are in stores in 2008. The reissues are available in single-CD, vinyl and two-disc editions, with the double-CD sets featuring various B-sides, outtakes and performance tracks.

"Live In Santa Monica '72," a David Bowie concert album previously available only as a bootleg gets its official US release in 2008. "You can hear that we are all pretty high on ourselves," says Bowie. "We train wreck a couple of things . . . but overall I really treasure this bootleg."

The soundtrack to Led Zeppelin’s ‘76 concert film, 'The Song Remains The Same,' was released in a vinyl box set featuring audiophile-quality in 2008. The package includes updated sleeve notes and six extra tracks.

And lastly, there's another soundtrack in 2008. This one is from the Neil Young-directed Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young tour documentary, CSNY: Déjà Vu. "It's got rough spots all the way through it, which I think is refreshing," says Young. Acting as the project’s promo guy Young claims that it’s the "best album the quartet has ever made."

Ask Mr. Music by Jerry Osborne

FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 19, 2010

DEAR JERRY: I find it interesting how often someone picks a hit vocal and releases it as an instrumental. Occasionally, both versions become popular.

Less often does a hit instrumental also become a big seller when words are added, or so it seems.

Did a Rock Era vocal and instrumental version of the same song ever appear together in the Top 10? Perhaps “Picnic” or “Only You”?
—Marvin Babcock, West Bend, Wisc.

DEAR MARVIN: Neither of the tunes you mention qualify, though “Picnic” comes close.

The instrumental, titled “Moonglow and Theme from Picnic,” by both Morris Stoloff and George Cates, reached the Top 10. The “Picnic” vocal by the McGuire Sisters did not, stalling at No. 13.

There are three Top 10 vocals of “Only You” (Platters; Hilltoppers; Ringo Starr), and one instrumental (Franck Pourcel's French Fiddles). However, Pourcel's 1959 hit came 15 years before Ringo's and four years after the other two.

Yes, it's a rare combination, but not unheard of. One example that does meet your criteria is “Unchained Melody.”

The instrumental (Les Baxter, His Chorus and Orchestra), along with two vocals (Al Hibbler and Roy Hamilton), all held spots in the Top 10 in May of 1955.

Staying with the same topic, but with a somewhat shady slant, read on:

DEAR JERRY: I have an old cassette tape recording of miscellaneous oldies, one of which is a vocal version of “Raunchy.” No one I've known ever heard “Raunchy” with lyrics. Have you?

According to handwritten notes on the tape box, the singer is Will Shade. Never heard of him. Was this out at the same time as the big hit instrumental?
—Jim Stotts, Jackson, Tenn.

DEAR JIM: Yes to both, but just answering your two questions does not begin to cover this story. “Raunchy” written and first issued by Bill Justis, was immediately covered by Ernie Freeman, whose version sold nearly as well. Both came out in November 1957.

Then, in late December, “Raunchy” became the first rock and roll instrumental to reach No. 1 nationally.

That same month, “The New Raunchy” came along (Decca 30539) with teen-oriented lyrics (by Red Sovine and Cindy Walker) sung to the familiar “Raunchy” music: “Come on baby do the Raunchy song; come on with me and do the Raunchy song; we'll rock it and we'll stomp it baby, all night long; baby don't you know it's my favorite song;” etc.

The singer is none other than country superstar Webb Pierce. Probably to distance himself from such a daringly different style — pure rock and roll and not the least bit country — the pseudonym Shady Wall is used.

As for the similar sounding Will Shade, he is an old-time Memphis blues singer whose only known record is “She Stabbed Me with an Ice-Pick” backed with “Better Leave That Stuff Alone” (Victor 21725). This 1928 single is now a hefty $1,000 to $2,000 item.

The “stuff” warning from Shade regards drinking “canned heat,” the highly addictive methanol in Sterno cooking fuel: “Canned heat is just like morphine, it crawls all through your bones; I gave my woman a dollar to get herself something to eat; she spent a dime for an egg roll and 90-cents for that ol' canned heat;” etc.

Yes, this is the concoction that inspired the '60s group named Canned Heat to pick that name.

IZ ZAT SO? Be it intentional or coincidental, Webb Pierce's choice of Shady Wall as a nom de guerre for “The New Raunchy” might have amused Rep. Shady R. Wall (D-Louisiana).

When the record came out, the real Shady Wall had just completed his first two terms as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives (1948-1956).

Jimmy Eat World: New Album in September

On September 28, Jimmy Eat World fans will have something all-new to listen to: Invented, the Arizona pop-punk vets' seventh full-length record and follow-up to 2007's Chase the Light.

"Invented" marks the band's first studio album since 2007's "Chase This Light" which landed Jimmy Eat World's highest chart position of their career at #5 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart. Jimmy Eat World's last release may have been three years ago but they've been busy. The boys took a break from the recording of "Invented" to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of their influential album, "Clarity" with a sold out national tour.

Jimmy Eat World's Fall tour plans are being finalized now.

Pink Floyd Bandmates to Reunite Again for Another Live Show

David Gilmour will join Roger Waters on stage for his 30th anniversary tour of “The Wall“. Waters posted the news on Facebook stating that Gilmour had offered to join him on stage for the shows.

Gilmour apparently emailed Waters and offered to play on one of his Wall shows, if Waters agreed to play a charity gig at the HOPING Foundation with Gilmour.

Waters said:

“How could I refuse such an offer. I couldn’t, there was no way. Generosity trumped fear. And so explaining that I would probably be shitting it but if he didn’t mind I didn’t – I agreed and the rest is history. We did it, and it was fucking great. End of story. Or possibly beginning.”

Which gig Gilmour will appear at is still to be decided and will not be announced officially as the Pink Floyd bandmates would like to keep it a surprise.

Many fans have called for Gilmour to appear at more than one show on the tour, but nothing official has been announced yet.

“The Standing Shadows’ genre-intertwining sound comes from using influences from practically all [of their favorite bands]. Rather than coming across as a discontinuous mash-up, the result is a smooth mix of Brit-pop and alternative rock.” – Katie Meschke, UCLA Daily Bruin

On 140 gram transparent blue colored vinyl, and comes with a CD of the album! More than three decades after the release of its visionary debut, Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo, and a full twenty years since its last studio album, Devo is back with the aptly titled Something for Everybody. The long rumored, wildly anticipated album features the band's classic line-up: Mark and Bob Mothersbaugh, Gerald and Bob Casale - joined by drummer Josh Freese (Nine Inch Nails, Guns n' Roses). The album also includes contributions from John Hill and Santi White (better known as rising hip-hop star Santigold), John King of the Dust Brothers, and the Teddybears. Though the songs recorded for Something for Everybody are built on Devo's signature mechanized swing, the recording and presentation of the album saw the band experimenting with an entirely new approach. A series of studies were conducted through the www.clubdevo.com site to help the band with its creative decisions, from color selection to song mixes.

'This Brooklyn act is another male-female duo receiving a lot of buzz, but don't expect the dream-pop vibe of Beach House or the folk-tinged sound of She & Him. Rather, Sleigh Bells make grungy dance pop . . . The group is comprised of guitarist Derek Miller and singer Alexis Krauss, who ended up working as a duo when former members of the band went on to form another buzz-band, Surfer Blood. This debut was produced by Derek Miller. Stereogum has named them a "Band to Watch" and the New Yorker has given them attention. This release comes out on Mom + Pop Music in special partnership with NEET Recordings, a label run by M.I.A., with whom Krauss has been compared.' - Tony Sclafani / Prefixmag.com

Vampire Weekend Sued for Over $2 Million For 'Contra' Cover Art

Aceshowbiz : A cover girl appearing on the front page of Vampire Weekend's latest album "Contra" files lawsuit against the band, alleging them using her image without her consent.

The woman named Ann Kirsten Kennis filed the legal paper at Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday, July 14. In addition to naming Vampire Weekend, Kennis also mentions photographer Tod Brody on the document.

She believes the band obtained a "photographic release" from Brody and claims it contains her forged signature. She blames the band for not bothering to verify the legitimacy of the release. Kennis had the vintage photo, featuring her wearing a yellow Polo shirt, taken back in 1983 when she worked as "a high-fashion model under contract with prestigious agencies in New York City."

She had no idea it was featured on the cover of "Contra" until the band came out promoting it in November 2009. Now, she is seeking more than $2 million in damages for this alleged misappropriation of identity. She argues that "the album design, in which the Photograph is featured prominently, was a substantial factor in generating recognition and buzz for the Contra album, thus increasing sales and profits."

Back in October last year, bassist Chris Baio admitted they haven't met the cover girl and didn't know who she is when asked by MTV. Frontman Ezra Koenig additionally explained what makes the picture of the girl interesting to them, "We just found it very striking.

And part of it is the look on her face. It's not about the color of her hair, or the fact that she's wearing a Polo shirt. What makes it interesting is her face." As of press time, spokesperson for the band hasn't commented on the issue.

Give her a pony and shut her up!

Deerhunter Release Halcyon Digest Track List, Album Cover

Deerhunter is set to release a new album 'Halcyon Digest' on September 28th, via 4AD. The new Deerhunter album is being supported by a grassroots xerox poster effort by the band, in which they'd like people to download the flyer and post copies around their town on kiosks and light poles.

Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox came up with the idea, based on the effect that these posters had on him when he was younger.

He said he was "...always being fascinated with the ephemera of 70's – 80's artrock in record stores like Wuxtry in Athens where I hung out as a kid or Wax 'N Facts in Atlanta. You'd see a photocopied faded B-52's flyer next to a poster for Lou Reed or XTC. It was like an artpunk scrapbook on those walls. It made my head spin. Who are these people? Who are the fucking Residents with these weird-ass eyeball faces?"

The band would very much like it if people would email them with pictures and news of where the posters have been hung. In return, the band will share the album's first single with the poster people before anyone else, giving them the first opportunity to hear the music. They'll also give them an exclusive non-album track.

Renaming Chicago Post Office For Steve Goodman Approved By Congress

The Lakeshore Post Office near Wrigley Field in Chicago will soon be known as the Steve Goodman Post Office after the Senate unanimously approved the resolution. The House had previously voted 371-0 in favor. The bill now goes to President Obama for approval.

Goodman, also known as Chicago Shorty, was a singer/songwriter probably best known for writing The City of New Orleans but endeared himself to his hometown fans with the songs Go Cubs Go and A Dying Cub Fans Last Request. In reality, Goodman was one of the most talented performers and songwriters on the folk scene of the 70's and early-80's, filling his concerts with his own songs and amazing covers of music from the 20's forward. Steve battled leukemia for many years and passed away in 1984.
