Official Tracklisting & Cover Art For Santana's Guitar Heaven

Santana and Clive Davis have collaborated for the highly anticipated Guitar Heaven: The Greatest Guitar Classics Of All Time, which is ude to be released on September 21st. An official tracklisting for the album has been issued, along with cover art. The first single will be a tribute to George Harrison - a cover of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" featuring india.arie and Yo-Yo Ma. It will be Santana's first album since 2005.

The Allman Brothers Band Returning To The Stage

The Allman Brothers Band have announced a three-night stand at Boston's Orpheum Theatre in November, part of "an East coast intimate theatre tour of Evening With shows." More shows are expected to be added soon.

It's the legendary band's first shows since Gregg Allman's liver transplant, which forced several cancellations this summer, including Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival. "I'm ready," said Allman. "I've been itching to play since I got the operation and am glad to be back. Can't thank everyone enough for their help and support."

As for the group's future following Gregg's surgery, guitarist Warren Haynes says, "It's really hard to say. I know [Gregg] personally feels like he's got a new lease on life. He's healing up and feeling better...Depending on the day you talk to him, he's already talking about getting back on the road. I think he has a lot of things that he wants to pursue himself, with his own band and projects and stuff. And even before this situation, the band was looking forward to winding down the schedule a little bit. So we'll see."

It's good to see them back......

Working For A Nuclear Free City Unveil Cover Art

The band recently released the album artwork and track listings for their upcoming October 12th release 'Jojo Burger Tempest.' The album is a double album, with the title track taking up the entire 30-minute second disk. Working for a Nuclear Free City is made up of brothers Jon and Phil Kay and their friend Gary McLure. Their band has been called Uk’s favorite electronic-rock band, and they have been gaining a steady stream of support for the past few years. Their songs have landed in both Matt Damon’s Green Zone and Playstation 3’s Infamous.

Now the band are back with their newest offering, 'Jojo Burger Tempest.'

Motionless in White Reveal Creatures Tracklist, Cover Art

Motionless In White (hailing from Scranton, PA) is thrilled to reveal the cover art and track listing for the band’s debut album, 'Creatures.' Recorded in Ocala, FL with Andrew Wade (A Day To Remember, The Word Alive), the album is scheduled for release on October 12, 2010.  Singer Chris Motionless could hardly contain himself when speaking about the album.

“I can absolutely promise that this is going to be one of the most pissed off and unique records of 2010,” he said. “We’ve taken our time to make sure our debut album is worth the wait – and believe me, this will be worth it.”  "Everything we’ve done has completely defined our own sound and will make it near impossible to catergorize us in any one specific genre,” he explained. “I don’t think ANYONE has any idea what to expect, or even moreso, I don’t think anyone is ready for what they’re about to hear!”

Weezer Unveil New Album Cover Art

Weezer have unveiled the cover art for their upcoming new album, ‘Hurley.' The cover art features a close up shot of actor Jorge Garcia who played Hurley on ABC’s hit show “Lost“.

The band are set to release the album on September 14 via their newly signed label, Epitaph Records.

Marissa Nadler Releases Acoustic LP, Covers Record, 2 New Songs

After a pair of metal collaborations with Xasthur and Sailors With Wax Wings, ethereal-voiced folksinger Marissa Nadler has picked up her acoustic guitar again and switched on the vox reverb for a slew of new solo songs. In addition to the digital release of her self-recorded demos for 2009’s Little Hells (“acoustic versions, complete with extremely alternate versions/lyrics of each song”) via Reverb Nation, Nadler is offering a 17-track covers album (with handmade packaging!) on Etsy, hoping to use profits from the release to help finance the production of her forthcoming record.

What’s more, Nadler is offering two new songs—”Daisy, Where Did You Go?” and “The Sun Always Reminds Me of You”—for free!

Midlake's The Trials Of Van Occupanther Gets Re-Released By Nova Posta Vinyl

The members of Midlake are in the middle of the busiest year they've ever had: They've already toured the world, won a MOJO award for Best Live Act and won a DOMA for Best Indie Rock act. Now the band has announced the vinyl re-release of their seminal album, 'The Trials Of Van Occupanther.'

Nova Posta Vinyl, the label responsible for the re-release, is actually owned and run by Midlake guitarist Eric Pulido and Denton singer-songwriter Robert Gomez. Nova Posta Vinyl is also responsible for the vinyl releases of Gomez's Pine Sticks and Phosphorus and Matthew And The Arrogant Sea's Family Family Family Meets The Magic Christian. Pulido is thrilled by the chance to re-release the disc and adds that "putting out records that are already established like Van Occupanther might be the future of [the label]."

"Everywhere we go people ask, 'Do you guys have vinyl?'" the slightly jet-lagged Pulido says this morning. Bella Union, Midlake's label, discontinued the pressing of Van Occupanther several years ago. "I was surprised that they didn't want to repress it themselves," Pulido adds. "Vinyl always sells."

Suicidal Records To Unleash "No Mercy Fool!/The Suicidal Family" This Fall

Another treat from the Suicidal Records stable, "No Mercy Fool!/The Suicidal Family" features re-recorded tracks from Suicidal Tendencies' second album, "Join The Army" originally released in 1987, as well as tunes from the second full-length from "No Mercy," Suicidal Tendencies guitarist Mike Clark's speed metal band (which found ST vocalist Mike Muir on vocals) from 1986.

Since their beginnings in Venice, CA in the early ‘80s, Suicidal Tendencies have led the charge in the skate punk/thrash metal movement, consequently influencing an entire generation of bands along the way. Now, over two decades later, the time is right to unleash these lost gems, re-recorded and released for fans old and new to enjoy for the very first time. Also included is a new version of the classic Suicidal Tendencies track, "Possessed To Skate." A video for the song is also in the works. Stay tuned for additional plans to celebrate the record's release.

Albatross reveal cover art, track list, & stream new track on Myspace

Horror metal band ‘Albatross’ from Mumbai, who recently signed to Demonstealer Records, have revealed the cover artwork and tracklist for their debut EP ‘Dinner Is You,' which is a sick, sadistic tale of cannibalism and the Kuru disease, which is a nervous system disorder afflicting cannibals, making them laugh uncontrollably. Each song is a spine-chilling story told through skull crushing metal.

The album has been mastered by Grammy nominated guitarist Andy LaRocque from King Diamond/Death.

The Ting Tings Announce Comeback Single 'Hands'

The Ting Tings have recently announced details about their new single "Hands," which was written and produced by the duo's Jules De Martino and Katie White, and mixed by Calvin Harris. It is scheduled to be released on October 11 on digital download and limited 12” vinyl.

"Hands" is the first piece of new material from the band since their 2008 debut 'We Started Nothing,' which sold over two million copies.

History:

Hank Williams was fired from the Grand Ole Opry in 1952 and told not to return until he was sober.

Elvis Presley’s most successful song of the ‘50s, “Don’t Be Cruel,” was released in 1956.

Booker T. and the MG's classic instrumental song, "Green Onions," was released in 1962.



Neil Sedaka started a two week run at #1 on the US singles chart in 1962 with "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do," his first US #1 as an artist.

The Kingston Trio were the mystery guests on TV's "What's My Line" in 1963.

In 1964, the Beatles started recording their fourth album at EMI studios in London, England.

The High Numbers, (later to become The Who), played at The Railway Hotel in Harrow, England in 1964. Just before the band were due on stage, Roger Daltry’s father-in law came into the venue and dragged the singer outside and hit him. The band started their set and Daltry appeared back on stage after the fight.

The Beatles' "Help!" film opened in New York in 1965 (nearly two weeks after its London premiere).

At a press conference held at The Astor Towers Hotel in Chicago in 1966, John Lennon apologized for his remarks that The Beatles were “more popular than Jesus". Lennon told reporters “Look, I wasn’t saying The Beatles are better than God or Jesus, I said ‘Beatles’ because it’s easy for me to talk about The Beatles. I could have said ‘TV’ or ‘Cinema’, ‘Motorcars’ or anything popular and would have got away with it…”



In 1966, the Beatles arrived at Chicago's O'Hare Airport to start their last tour of the US.

The first Beatles single on their own Apple Records was released in 1968. The single was "Hey Jude" b/w "Revolution."

In 1967, the Small Faces, the Move, Marmalade, Paul Jones, Pink Floyd, Amen Corner, Donovan, Zoot Money, Cream, Jeff Beck, John Mayall, Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac and the Crazy World Of Arthur Brown all appeared at this years UK Reading festival. An advance 3 day ticket cost $4. Arthur Brown's trademark flaming helmet burnt out of control and organiser Harold Pendleton's father-in-law had to douse the flames with a pint of beer.

Apple Records was formed in 1968.

In 1969, Diana Ross introduced the Jackson 5 to 350 special guests at a Beverly Hills party (even though it was Gladys Knight who discovered them).

Elvis Presley filed for divorce from Priscilla in 1972 (it became final14 months later).

Guitarist Henry McCullough and drummer Denny Seiwell both quit Wings in 1973.

The "American Graffiti" film opened in 1973.

After seeing KISS play at a New York hotel in 1973, producer Bill Aucion offered to become their manager and promised a record deal.

The Edgar Winter Group's "Free Ride" was released in 1973.



Keith Moon of the Who collapsed at a Miami hotel and was hospitalized in 1976.

In 1976, EMI Records signed a deal with a Soviet record label to release Wings’ “Band On The Run” in the Soviet Union.

The Knack started a five-week run at #1 on the US album chart in 1979 with "Get The Knack."

Led Zeppelin played their last ever UK show when they appeared at Knebworth Park, England in 1979. Also on the bill, The New Barbarians, Todd Rundgren, Southside Johnny and the Ashbury Dukes, Chas and Dave and Fairport Convention.

Sonny Bono appeared on ABC-TV's "Love Boat" in 1979 (this is the first and only time I will ever reference the "L Boat!).

Ray Parker JR. started a three week run at #1 on the US singles chart in 1984 with the theme from the film 'Ghostbusters.' Parker who had been a session guitarist for Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye was accused of plagiarizing the melody from Huey Lewis and the News song "I Want a New Drug," resulting in Lewis suing Parker, the pair settled out of court in 1985.

In 1989, three members of L.L. Cool J crew were arrested and charged with raping a 15 year-old girl. The incident took place after a concert when the girl had won a backstage pass on a radio contest.

Kiss arrived on Hollywood Boulevard to unveil their star on The Walk Of Fame in 1999. The band had released over 30 albums and sold over 80 million records world-wide.

Black Sabbath, Linkin Park, Slipknot and Marilyn Manson all appeareded at the Ozzfest at PNC Bank Arts Centre, New Jersey in 2001.

Nelly and Kelly Rowland started a seven week run at #1 on the US singles chart in 2002 with "Dilemma."

Bruce Springsteen started a two week run at #1 on the US album chart in 2002 with ‘The Rising,' the singer's fifth US #1 LP.

In 2005, a court ruling stated that anyone who purchased Evanescence's "Anywhere But Home" CD/DVD package at Wal-Mart stores in Maryland prior to the first of the year can get a refund because the disc did not carry a parental-advisory sticker warning of explicit lyrics. A Maryland couple sued Sony BMG Music Entertainment and its Wind-Up Records subsidiary over the absence of a sticker.

Kid Rock and a reunited Alice In Chains performed at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis SD, in 2006.

In 2008, the four surviving founders of the Allman Brothers Band initiate a lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG) over alleged unpaid royalties from sales of CDs, digital downloads and ringtones. The suit claims the band hasn’t been paid the proper rate for sales of their music that originally appeared on the Capricorn label. The musicians are seeking more than $10 million in damages.

Also in 2008, Karl Wiosna from Graig, near Pontypridd in Wales had his stereo equipment and music collection destroyed after being served with a noise abatement notice, which he later admitted breaching. Environmental health officers were alerted by neighbors who complained about the unacceptable volume Wiosna was playing his Cher and U2 records. Two tape and record decks, a radio and CDs were seized and destroyed by the council, he was also fined more than $300.

Rolling Stones’ Ron Wood joined Pearl Jam onstage in London in 2009. "You're supposed to save the best for last, but we're not," singer Eddie Vedder tells the fan-club only audience as Wood comes onstage. The guitarist plays four songs with PJ including “All Along The Watchtower.”



John Fogerty's cover of the Everly Brothers' "When Will I Be Loved," the first single from his album "The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again" was available exclusively through iTunes in 2009. Fogerty (ex-Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman) and Bruce Springsteen duet on the track.

The Wonder Years And Heroes For Hire to release split 7" vinyl

To coincide with their forthcoming Australian tour, US pop-punk act The Wonder Years will be teaming up with Australia’s own Heroes For Hire for a limited-edition vinyl release titled A Split Record. The release is the handy work of Boomtown and Hopeless Records.

There will be five different purchase options for A Split Record, including multiple color combinations and one-off tee shirt designs from both bands.

MUSICA DIABLO's Debut To Receive Vinyl Release

MUSICA DIABLO — the São Paulo, Brazil-based thrash metal project featuring SEPULTURA singer Derrick Green, guitarist André NM (NITROMINDS), bassist Ricardo Brigas, guitarist André Germani Curci (KORZUS, THREAT) and drummer Edu Nicollini (NITROMINDS) — has inked a deal with the French label Deadlight Entertainment to release the band's debut album on vinyl.

"Musica Diablo" came out on May 28 via SAOL / H'Art / Zebralution. The CD's cover artwork was created by Gustavo Sazes, who has previously worked with ARCH ENEMY, GOD FORBID and OLD MAN'S CHILD.

Jefferson Airplane Never-released Live Albums To Be Issued On Collectors' Choice

On October 26, 2010, Collectors' Choice Music Live will release four previously unreleased live albums: Live at the Fillmore Auditorium 10/15/66 Late Show - Signe's Farewell, Live at the Fillmore Auditorium 10/16/66 Early & Late Shows - Grace's Debut, Live at the Fillmore Auditorium 11/25/66 & 11/27/66 - We Have Ignition, and Return to the Matrix 2/1/68.

The first three releases document the astonishing growth of the band, and follow the near-seamless absorption of Grace Slick's voice and material into the Airplane's sound just as they were entering the studio to record Surrealistic Pillow. The fourth release captures the group triumphantly returning to their home turf at Marty Balin's club The Matrix for a relaxed, exploratory set in an intimate setting, performing material from their first four albums, including Crown of Creation, seven months before its release. Hand-picked by a team of devotees, annotated by frequent Airplane flyer Craig Fenton (author of the book Take Me To A Circus Tent: The Jefferson Airplane Flight Manual), and featuring rare photos inside handsome digi-packs, these concerts distill and express the dream and promise of the Haight-Ashbury scene.

•Live at the Fillmore Auditorium 10/15/66 Late Show - Signe's Farewell: The Grace Slick era of the Airplane has understandably received most of the attention paid the band over the years. But they had released a good album (Jefferson Airplane Takes Off) and were already a powerful live outfit before Slick came aboard. The 10/15/66 release not only marks the first appearance on CD of a live recording featuring Signe Anderson with the band, but also her very last show. Both Marty Balin and the Fillmore's Bill Graham give her shout-outs. Songs include "3/5ths of a Mile in Ten Seconds," "Tobacco Road," "Midnight Hour," "High Flyin' Bird" and "Chauffeur Blues" (which Grace never performed out of respect for Signe, who'd made the old blues tune her own). It was the end of an era. But a new one was about to begin the very next day, and is the subject of the 10/16/66 release.

•Live at the Fillmore Auditorium 10/16/66 Early & Late Shows - Grace's Debut: The 10/16/66 volume chronicles the first set of concerts featuring Grace Slick as a member of the Airplane, a mere day after Signe Anderson officially left the band. The band has yet to add the material Slick brought to the band ("Somebody To Love" and "White Rabbit) to the set list, but Grace's harmony work with Marty and Paul is impressive, and you can literally hear her confidence growing from the first set to the second. The album contains "The Other Side of This Life," "Let Me In," "Don't Let Me Down," "Run Around" and "High Flying Bird," plus versions of "3/5ths of a Mile in 10 Seconds" and "Tobacco Road" with the new line-up, and Leiber & Stoller's "Kansas City," which has never appeared on any Airplane studio or live album. Surrealistic Pillow photographer Herbie Greene contributes photos. Things would never be the same for the band or for '60s rock.

•Live at the Fillmore Auditorium 11/25/66 & 11/27/66 - We Have Ignition: CCM Live subtitled these shows "We Have Ignition" as they believe this is when the Airplane transformed from a high-flying bird into a psychedelic spaceship (but not yet a Starship.) It's difficult to believe, when comparing these November shows with Grace's live debut on 10/16/66, that only six weeks have elapsed. Not only has the band (particularly guitarist Jorma Kaukonen) progressed as musicians, but the infusion of Surrealistic Pillow material some four months before the album hit the stores shifts the focus of this folk-rock band to rock. Included are "Plastic Fantastic Lover," "High Flyin' Bird," "Bringing Me Down," " D.C.B.A-25," "My Best Friend," "Go to Her," "She Has Funny Cars," "3/5ths of a Mile in 10 Seconds," "Skip Spence's "J.P.P. McStep B Blues," "White Rabbit," "Today" and more. Two rarities are a mind blowing, 9:45-minute version of "The Other Side of Life" (performed for a photo session) that neither its author, the folk singer-songwriter Fred Neil, nor the band could ever have anticipated, and the only known recording of an instrumental known in some quarters as "My Grandfather's Clock." This is the Airplane at its early apex.

•Return to the Matrix 2/1/68: The Airplane returned to the first club they ever played, the Matrix, in 1968 for a 103-minute show at the height of their commercial prowess. They band premiered two songs from the Crown of Creation album (which was months away from being released): "Share a Little Joke" and an instrumental version of "Ice Cream Phoenix." They also performed "Blues From an Airplane," a song from its first (pre-Slick) album. Also here: "Somebody to Love," "Young Girl Sunday Blues," "She Has Funny Cars," "Two Heads," "Martha," "Kansas City," "Other Side of this Life," "Today," "Won't You Try/Saturday Afternoon," "It's No Secret," "Watch Her Ride," "Plastic Fantastic Lover," "Ballad of You and Me and Pooneil," "White Rabbit," "Fat Angel" and "3/5ths of a Mile in 10 Seconds."

Antony and the Johnsons EP Coming This Month Ahead of New Album

Antony and the Johnsons will release their new five song EP "Thank You For Your Love" on August 24. The title-track is the lead single from the forthcoming album "Swanlights" also being released by Secretly Canadian on October 12.

On "Thank You For Your Love", Antony expresses a soul-infused cry of gratitude, but the song progresses into urgency, leaving behind the 4/4 rhythms and breaking into an emotional gallop that reveals an underlying pathos. "You Are The Treasure" is the calm after the storm, "My Lord My Love" closes the A side as a song for a lost childhood. The B side features two unusual covers accompanied by Kevin Barker on Acoustic Guitar, the first is Bob Dylan's "Pressing On", Antony's take is sweet, upbeat and beautiful. "Imagine" collaboration with avant-garde ambient composer William Basinski is a foreboding take on John Lennon's hallowed song.

Artwork for the EP features photographs Antony took when he first arrived in NYC as a teenager in the early 90's.

Antony and the Johnsons will also release their new album, "Swanlights", on October 12th in the US via Secretly Canadian. Abrams Image will simultaneously release a special edition of "Swanlights" which will include the CD inside a 144-page hard cover book containing Antony's paintings, collages, photography and writing. The album only version of "Swanlights" on Secretly Canadian will also include the song "Flétta", a duet with Björk. The album and book are a continuation of Antony's work exploring his connection to the natural world.

More Jimi Hendrix Reissues Coming in October

Legacy Recordings have recently announced the second installment of releases for their 2010 Jimi Hendrix Catalog Project, available October 19, 2010. Legacy's next round of titles will include deluxe editions of Jimi Hendrix Experience: BBC Sessions and Jimi Hendrix: Blues, his legendary Live At Woodstock performance, and Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year, the highly collectible Jimi Hendrix Christmas EP.

Originally released in 1994, the Jimi Hendrix: Blues album features 11 blues performances recorded by Hendrix between 1966 and 1970 showcasing the guitarist's mastery of the 12-bar form. The new deluxe Legacy edition comes packaged in a six-panel digipak with an expanded, 36 page booklet and includes a bonus DVD featuring an expanded, 30 minute version of "Jimi Hendrix and the Blues" from the Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues series. Directed and Produced by Alex Gibney, Janie Hendrix and John McDermott, the film features interviews and live performances not seen in the original PBS television broadcast. A double-disc 12" vinyl LP audiophile edition of Jimi Hendrix: Blues will also be available.

The Legacy edition of Jimi Hendrix Experience: BBC Sessions brings together recordings from Hendrix's appearances on a variety of BBC radio and television broadcasts from 1967 through 1969. The two CD Jimi Hendrix Experience: BBC Sessions comes packaged in a six-panel digipak and includes a never before released 30 minute bonus DVD documentary. The film features the group's famed January 1969 appearance on "Happening For Lulu" which featured Hendrix interrupting the live broadcast to perform a ferocious rendition of Cream's "Sunshine Of Your Love" together with interviews with Jimi Hendrix Experience bandmates Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding as well as BBC staff producers Jeff Griffin and Bernie Andrews detailing the legendary sessions. The acclaimed 2 CD set includes Hendrix's unique interpretations of such classics as Bob Dylan's "Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window?," Muddy Waters "Hoochie Coochie Man" [with noted British blues enthusiast Alexis Korner on slide guitar], the Beatles "Day Tripper" as well as two songs featuring the dream pairing of Stevie Wonder with Hendrix. Jimi Hendrix's watershed Live At Woodstock album, the artist's most popular live performance, will be reissued in a two CD set, available in both digipak and brilliant box configurations as well as an audiophile, three-disc 12" vinyl LP edition.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year, the Jimi Hendrix seasonal single, features the celebrated 1969 medley of "Little Drummer Boy," "Silent Night," and "Auld Lang Syne" backed with "Three Little Bears." Merry Christmas & Happy New Year will be reissued as a CD as well as on 7" vinyl in a picture sleeve.

The upcoming wave of 2010 Jimi Hendrix titles culminates in the long awaited release of West Coast Seattle Boy: The Jimi Hendrix Anthology, a definitive career-spanning four CD box set which tracks Hendrix's remarkable journey from R&B sideman to international stardom. The deluxe set is filled with previously unreleased Jimi Hendrix Experience recordings plus demos, alternate takes and more. Bill Chase and three members of his band were killed in a plane crash in 1974. Chase had the 1971 US Top 30 hit "Get It On."

Jerry Garcia guitarist and singer from The Grateful Dead died from a heart attack at the Serenity Knolls rehabilitation clinic in San Francisco in 1995 (age 53). Garcia co-founded the New Riders of the Purple Sage and also released several solo albums. He was well known for his distinctive guitar playing and was ranked 13th in Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitarist's of All Time"



Spice Girls manager Bob Herbert was killed in a car crash in Windsor, England in 1999. Herbert was behind the formation of The Spice Girls and Five and had managed Bros during the 80's.

Born on this day in 1955, Benjamin Orr bass, vocals, The Cars. Orr died of cancer on 3rd October 2000.

Born today in 1939, Billy Henderson singer, The Detroit Spinners. Henderson died from complications from diabetes on Feb 2, 2007 (age 67).


History:

Britain’s answer to Elvis, 17 year old Cliff Richard, signed a record deal with EMI records in 1958. Also on this day Cliff Richard started a four-week residency at Butlins Holiday Camp in Clacton-On-Sea, Essex as Cliff Richard and the Drifters.

Johnny Horton cuts "North To Alaska" at his last recording session in 1960.

Today in 1962, Robert Zimmerman legally changed his name to Bob Dylan.

In 1963, the first ever edition of 'Ready Steady Go! was shown on UK TV. Introduced by Keith Fordyce and 19 year-old Cathy McGowan. The first show featured The Searchers, Jet Harris, Pat Boone, Billy Fury and Brian Poole and The Tremeloes. T he final show was in Dec 1966 after 175 episodes. Originally 30 minutes long, it expanded to 50 minutes the following year and soon attracted the most popular artists, including The Beatles, The Lovin’ Spoonful, The Rolling Stones, The Four Tops, The Kinks and many others.

The Rolling Stones appeared at the New Elizabeth Ballroom in Belle Vue, Manchester in 1964. Two policemen fainted and another was taken to hospital with broken ribs after trying to control over 3,000 screaming teenagers.

Bob Dylan and Joan Baez performed on stage together for the first time in 1964.

Jerry Lee Lewis appeared at the Sunberry Jazz & Blues Festival in 1967 and worked the crowd into such a frenzy that British officials stopped the show and ask Lewis to leave the stage.

He does it again! Jerry Lee kills ‘em at the England's National Jazz and Blues Festival in 1968. The audience was so revved up that the next act (The Herd) refused to go on.

In 1968, after the other Beatles had go home for the evening (2:00 am), Paul McCartney stayed behind and recorded "Mother Nature's Son," taping 25 takes at Abbey Road studios. The song was included on the ‘White Album.’



James Brown & the Famous Flames appeared at Balboa Stadium, San Diego, California in 1968.

During a North American tour in 1969, Led Zeppelin appeared at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.

"Hot Fun in The Summertime," by Sly and the Family Stone, and "Easy to Be Hard" (from the Broadway production "Hair") were released in 1969.

The Bee Gees started a two week run at #1 on the US singles chart in 1975 with "Jive Talkin," the group's second US #1 hit.

The last two songs the band played were "We Are The Champions" and "God Save The Queen." Over 120,000 fans attended the show, also on the bill were Big Country, Belouis Some and Status Quo.

In 1991, Rick James pled innocent to charges that he imprisoned, tortured and sexually assaulted a woman in his California home.

In 2005, Marc Cohn survived being shot in the head during an attempted car jacking as he left a concert in Denver, Colorado. Cohn was struck in the temple by the bullet but it did not penetrate his skull. Police said a man tried to commandeer Cohn's tour van as it left after a show, the attacker was fleeing police after trying to pay a hotel bill with a stolen credit card.



The James Gang embarked on their first tour in 35 years in 2006. All three members of the group's definitive lineup are present: singer-guitarist Joe Walsh of Eagles fame, drummer Jimmy Fox and bassist Dale Peters. The first stop in Morrison, CO.

Also in 2007, Jennifer Lopez won $545,000 in a case against her first husband, who planned to publish a book claiming she had several affairs. Lopez claimed Ojani Noa had violated a previous legal settlement preventing him from revealing private details about their relationship. The star claimed Mr Noa offered not to publish the book in return for $5 million.

Them Crooked Vultures, a supergroup featuring Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl, Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones and Queens Of The Stone Age's Josh Homme gave their debut performance at the sold-out Metro club in Chicago in 2009. They performed a 12-song, 80-minute set.

Back in the 1970s, upper middle-class drawing-rooms in India were considered incomplete without a record player and a cache of albums to its side. That was a time songs couldn't be downloaded by pushing a button in a retail store or on a computer keyboard. Albums were like friends for every occasion. There was no greater joy than placing an LP gently on the turntable, watching the needle settle in the groove and letting the sound of music take over.

Then cassettes, CDs and MP3s came and colonized music stores. By the early 1990s, vinyl records had vanished from drawing-rooms and receded from public memory like a forgotten melody. Vinyl junkies would still scrounge around for their fix at curio and collectors' shops and ‘chor bazaars'. But, like all outdated technology, the vinyl record seemed headed for a slow, painless death.

No longer. Taking its cue from global trends, the vinyl — made from polyvinyl chloride, hence the name — is being revived from its comatose state in India. From last October, EMI Music India has released more than 125 titles at retail outlets in Chennai, Bangalore, Kochi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Gurgaon. Cities like Pune, Delhi and Kolkata are next on the list. The titles range from GenThen favourite Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" and Eagles' "Hotel California", to GenNow's Arctic Monkeys ("Humbug") and Radiohead ("Pablo Honey"). More than 1,000 units are up for sale. "It feels good to have revived the format," says Anand Srinivasan, EMI's senior manager, international labels.

Music company Saregama is also exploring the market. "We are checking with stores on the demand for LPs and should have feedback in about a month, which will help us decide whether to press and import some," says its vice-president, Atul Churamani.

The vinyl's reappearance democratizes listeners' choice. But nostalgia doesn't come cheap. The new ‘old' LPs start at Rs 695 and special four-LP sets are tagged at Rs 5,995. Freebies are thrown in as a lure. Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" comes with posters and stickers, which are not available with the CD format. Music industry executives say prices are high because India does not have any record-pressing plant and the albums are imported. "But if sales go up, prices will come down," says Srinivasan.

Those in the business are optimistic. Mangesh Shinde, chief manager, Reliance TimeOut, says that retail response has been positive. Though vinyl occupies no more than six feet by 10 feet of space in their Gurgaon outlet, about 150 records have been sold in the past four months. "One music aficionado drives one-and-half hours from Kottayam to Kochi and buys 10 to 15 LP records each time," he says.

Global trends indicate the market has grown in the last five years. Nielsen SoundScan, a data information system that tracks sales of US music products, says 2.5 million vinyl records were sold in 2009, 33% more than in 2008 and more than any other year since the survey began in 1991. But this January, The New York Times put things in perspective by pointing out that "vinyl remains less than one per cent of the overall sales."

Nonetheless, there's a new buzz about vinyl in the west. Vinyl addicts say listening to music in the old analog format offers a more rounded, richer sound, rather than the clearer but soulless audio of the digitised mode. This has prompted record companies and musicians to woo this growing minority of vinyl-lovers. In 2008, Warner Brothers reissued Metallica's back catalogue only on vinyl. Churamani of Saregama adds, "We have released three LPs in Europe over the last couple of years via the licensing route. The latest is Charanjit Singh's "Ten Ragas To A Disco Beat", which has just come out about a month ago."

But music lovers like Chandan Mitra are not optimistic about vinyl. There's a huge market for the software, says Mitra, by which he means vinyl records of Hindi film classics and popular Western music of the 1950s and 60s. "But procuring hardware is a huge problem. Most have junked their old turntables. For those who still own one, maintenance is extremely difficult. I got mine repaired from Old Delhi but it conked out again after a fortnight. Besides, turntable needles aren't readily available," says Mitra, a newspaper editor and Rajya Sabha member.

That's a familiar complaint. Add to that a basic fact — vinyl's rivals, such as CDs, MP3s and USB ports, are more convenient and can even be played while on the move.

Yet hope floats on the "hardware" front too with retail stores planning to sell turntables soon. "We have ordered turntables from Austria. The shipment is expected to arrive mid-August. In fact, we have already booked 10 orders in Bangalore," says Shinde. They will cost anywhere between Rs 19,500 and Rs 99,000.

So can vinyl make a comeback, especially when an entire generation has grown up enjoying free, if illegal, music without guilt? It won't be easy. For too long have the young defined music by easy availability and mobility. Press a phone or iPod button and Sonu Nigam comes alive. In comparison, records and turntables seem horribly prehistoric. Churamani agrees the demand will probably be "collector-centric or a fad for the younger generation". In other words, it will be sharply niche; something that would give the serious music lover something to brag about to his MP3-listening neighbour. For Srinivasan of EMI, the jury is still out. He is waiting for October to review the annual response.

But for those who liked the old LPs, there is once again the chance to enjoy music in a different way — looking at album artwork, reading the back cover, rather than relegating music to a formless, digitised happening. For them, life is on song once again.

One instance of the scene supporting itself is when fans help their favorite bands get back on their feet by donating money after suffering the all-too-common gear theft. Boca Raton’s PROTAGONIST suffered a similar fate in June when $22,000 worth of gear was stolen from their trailer just outside of their hotel room, as they were about to enter the studio with Stephen Egerton (Descendents, ALL) to record a new album. In order to help one of its own, PAPER + PLASTICK RECORDS has established an eBay auction of 43 rare Paper + Plastick vinyl test-pressings, and will donate all proceeds to the band.

"When you’re a young band, you are scraping for everything. Any roadblocks, large or small, seem like they might be, and in some cases, can be the end of the road,” confides Paper + Plastick founder Vinnie Fiorello, who has experienced it all with his band Less Than Jake. “Having all of your gear and trailer stolen would fit in the "Uh oh we're fucked” category of problems a band has to deal with, but in the face of that, Protagonist goes on. Born on this day in 1925, Felice Bryant, songwriter with her husband Boudleaux. Wrote Everly Brothers hits, "All I Have To Do Is Dream," "Bye Bye Love," "Wake Up Little Susie" and "Raining In My Heart" a hit for Buddy Holly. She died on April 22, 2003.

In 2009, Willy DeVille died at the age of 58 following a battle with pancreatic cancer. The band he formed, Mink Deville, appeared at the legendary CBGB club in New York in the 1970s and scored the 1977 hit "Spanish Stroll."


History:

In 1954, Elvis Presley appeared at the Eagles Nest in Memphis Tennessee, (the first of 12 shows at the venue in this year). The advertisement in the local paper read; “See and hear Elvis singing That’s All Right and The Blue Moon of Kentucky.”

The Quarry Men played at the Cavern Club in Liverpool in 1957, (without Paul McCartney who was away at Boy Scout summer camp). The Cavern was still a jazz club, but skiffle was tolerated, but when John Lennon dared to play "Hound Dog" and "Blue Suede Shoes," the club owner sent a note to the stage saying, "Cut out the bloody rock!"

Paul Anka made his TV debut on ABC's "American Bandstand" in 1957.

The movie "Beach Party", with Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello, opened in 1963.



The Turtles' remake of Bob Dylan's "It Ain't Me Babe" was released in 1965.

Mike Smith (Dave Clark Five) had two ribs broken when he was pulled off the stage by a fan in Chicago in 1965.

Herman's Hermits went to #1 on the US singles chart in 1965 with "I'm Henry VIII I Am." The single was only released in the US. Singer Peter Noone once interviewed Elvis Presley for UK music paper New Musical Express.

The Goose Lake International Music Festival was held in Leoni, Michigan in 1970. Over 200,000 fans attended the three day festival. Acts who appeared included, Jethro Tull, 10 Years After, Mountain, Chicago, Bob Seger, John Sebastian, James Gang, Stooges with Iggy Pop, Brownsville Station, MC5, Rod Stewart and Flying Burrito Brothers.

The Bee Gees started a four week run at #1 on the US singles chart in 1971 with "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart." It was the group's tenth US hit and first #1.

With Flo and Eddie on board, Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention recorded "Just Another Band From L.A." at U.C.L.A. in 1971.

Elton John and Kiki Dee were at #1 on the US singles chart in 1976 with the insipid "Don't Go Breaking My Heart," giving Elton his sixth US #1 hit. It was written by Elton John without Bernie Taupin under the pseudonym "Ann Orson" and "Carte Blanche."

Fleetwood Mac started a five-week run at #1 on the US album chart in 1982 with 'Mirage.' The bands third US #1.

John Cougar (aka John Mellencamp) landed at #2 on the U.S. chart in 1982 with the million selling "Hurts So Good." It’s kept out of the top spot by the Human League’s "Don’t You Want Me."



In 1987 - A Los Angeles judge threw out a lawsuit against Ozzy Osbourne. The lawsuit had been filed by the parents of a teenager who had committed suicide while listening to Ozzy's song, "Suicide Solution."

Cypress Hill started a two-week run at #1 on the US album chart in 1993 with 'Black Sunday.'

In 1997, Garth Brooks played to the largest crowd ever in New York's Central Park. An estimated 1 million people attended the live concert with an additional 14.6 million viewing live on HBO.

Violence erupted outside a Dave Matthews Band concert in Hartford, CT in 1999. 55 arrests were made in the parking lot of the Meadows Music Theater.

In 2000, the family of Jimi Hendrix won a case at an international panel to evict the holder of the Internet address www.jimihendrix.com.

In 2002, Three members of Oasis were injured when the taxi they were travelling in was involved in a crash during a US tour in Indianapolis. Noel Gallagher, Andy Bell and Jay Darlington were all taken to hospital and treated for cuts and bruises.

Mariah Carey was at #1 on the US charts in 2005 with "We Belong Together."

Godsmack headlined the third night of the Rock 'N The Rally music festival in Sturgis, SD in 2007. It's part of the five-day Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. "Godsmack is more excited about this show than any other show we've played in the last decade," says singer Sully Erna. "Not only is biking truly a part of our lifestyles, but Sturgis is the Cadillac of events." The concert was filmed for DVD release.

In 2008, Elvis Presley's peacock jumpsuit, was sold at auction for $300,000, making it the most expensive piece of Elvis memorabilia ever sold at an auction. The white outfit with a plunging V-neck and high collar featured a blue-and-gold peacock design, hand-embroidered on the front and back and along the pant legs.

Classic Re-presses Sonic Spectacular, issues new 45rpm Box Edition on Clarity Vinyl

World Music probably before there was such a term, this musical description of a dramatic, colorful Australian aboriginal dance ceremony told mostly with western classical musical conventions and instrumentation, though a ominous sounding primitive instrument called a bull roarer makes a dramatic appearance.

The music is brutal and sometimes violent, and as the liner notes predict, you will be reminded of Stravinsky and say to yourself “Austrailian “The Rite of Spring.”

The annotation suggests, however, that were you to listen to field recordings of the actual ceremony, you’d hear that the composer has capture that and not “The Rite of Spring.”

The cinematic music is populated by heavy percussive attacks and dramatic shifts in mood and dynamics as the New South Wales born composer John Antill brings the mysterious night time before the fire light conducted ceremony to life.

Side two switches hemispheres with the Argentinian composer Alberto Ginastera’s relatively short ballet based on a South American Indian legend, written when he was but 20 years old. It too combines the classical with the primitive and will remind you of “The Rite of Spring.”

The recording is legendary and this reissue at 33 1/3 sounds one hundred times better than the original vinyl, The dynamic range and the depth charge bass attacks will almost have you running for cover. The double 45rpm box set version on Clarity Vinyl must be staggering.

If you’ve got full range speakers, this record will give them a real workout. An enormous soundstage, an intimate perspective, unrestrained dynamics and solid imaging and sense of three dimensionality combine to produce a memorable sonic spectacular that will grab and hold your attention with each play.

Like “The Rite of Spring,” or “Pictures at an Exhibition,” or some of the other great choices as introductions to classical music, this pairing offers fast moving, evocative musical excitement built upon a strong percussive bed that attacks and excites.

The first pressing at 33 1/3 a few years ago sold out. This re-press will most likely do the same in both editions. This record is highly recommended, whether you’re into Mahler or you’re a metalhead.

Antony Covers Lennon, Dylan on New EP

It's been announced that Antony and the Johnsons are releasing a five track EP, featuring unique covers of the John Lennon classic "Imagine" and Bob Dylan's "Pressing On." The former is transposed into the first person and rearranged by ambient composer William Bansinski, while Antony is joined by guitarist Kevin Barker on the latter.

The five track EP takes its name from the track 'Thank You For Your Love', which will also appear on 'Swanlights' and will be released as its lead single. It also includes a bonus track from last album 'The Crying Light' called 'My Lord My Love' and a new song 'You Are The Treasure'.

KAMELOT Album Cover Revealed

KAMELOT is back and offering a glimpse of what is to come and they have unveiled the cover artwork for their highly anticipated 9th studio album, 'Poetry For The Poisoned.'

The strikingly dark, beautiful artwork is from Seth Siro Anton. He sums up his experience in working on Poetry For The Poisoned: “It was a great challenge for me as an artist to visualize the music of this new KAMELOT masterpiece. Really difficult, as I had to combine a Fine Art aesthetic and technique blended with a really dark, melancholic, poisoned atmosphere. I am really satisfied with the final result; it’s definitely the darkest artwork for KAMELOT so far…. A sweet poison for the eyes that successfully addresses their new poetry of music.”

Frontman Roy Khan assures that Poetry For The Poisoned will both please the band’s existing following and expose the universe of KAMELOT to a whole range of new fans. “Poetry For The Poisoned is our longest and toughest production so far, but when I hear the result I know it was well worth the struggle,” he says.

Yoko Ono Opposes Fresh Parole Bid From John Lennon's Killer

Yoko Ono has written a letter to the parole board at New York's Attica prison opposing the release of John Lennon's killer Mark Chapman, her lawyer has confirmed. Chapman, who was jailed for 20 years to life for killing the former Beatle in 1980, will find out next week if he is entitled to early release.

In her letter, Lennon's widow said parole would “bring back the nightmare, the chaos and confusion once again”, adding: “Myself and John's two sons would not feel safe for the rest of our lives.”

Chapman, 55, shot Lennon dead outside his apartment in New York. He is housed in a special unit apart from other prisoners at Attica and his daily tasks include cleaning up offices, reports the New York Daily News.

Let him out, he will get what is coming to him...........

The Charlatans Announce New Album And Tour Dates

The Charlatans have announced the North American release of "Who We Touch" on September 14, 2010, via The End Records. The 10-track album was produced by Youth (Killing Joke, Primal Scream, Paul McCartney) and the first single will be "Love is Ending." The band - Martin Blunt (bass), Jon Brookes (drums), Tim Burgess (vocals), Mark Collins (guitar) and Tony Rogers (keyboards) - will be heading to America a week prior to the album's release for a tour that begins September 7 in Atlanta, Georgia and wraps September 22 in Los Angeles, California. The tour marks the first time in over four years since The Charlatans performed in North America. Tickets are on sale now.

Fully remastered by T. Dallas Reed (Stone Axe/Mos Generator) the songs have a fresh vitality while never losing the '70s edge that made them so endearing in the first place. The original six tracks will be accompanied by a ton of previously unreleased tracks and never before seen photographs. The CD edition includes twelve bonus cuts and an 8-page booklet that features live shots and of the band at some of their most candid moments, while the double LP edition includes 10 bonus tracks and is pressed on two-toned black and white vinyl.
