A "Please Please Me" getting the top spot has become about as common as VP Joe Biden saying something that would have had your mother call out to you to run and get your grandfather's medication. The real story this week is that for the first time since the last time someone dropped $25k on a diamond braclet infused Ice Cream Sundae at Serendipity 3, a prevously unknown Soul 45 topped $5k on an audio clip alone - no holy grail status, no spot in Keb Darge's playlist - just the clip in the eBay ad. The Emeralds 45 is a Chicago uptempo dancer that got bidders as excited as they can get. By comparison, the De-Lite's acetate, a known entity with holy grail status (don't know if it's on Keb Darge's playlist but many DJs spin it) gets the #5 spot.

Ultimate Hits: Rock And Roll Never Forgets Bob Seger Collection Coming In November

Capitol/EMI has scheduled a November 21st release date for a new double disc/career-spanning 2CD set Bob Seger collection called 'Ultimate Hits: Rock And Roll Never Forgets.' The 26-track collection includes "Night Moves," "Turn The Page," "Hollywood Nights," "Mainstreet," "Old Time Rock And Roll," "Like A Rock," "Her Strut," "We've Got Tonight," "Against The Wind," "Still The Same," and many other Seger classics, as well as the Detroit rocker's two #1 radio singles from this year, "Downtown Train" and his current #1 Classic Rock hit, "Hey Hey Hey Hey (Going Back To Birmingham)."

The collection also includes Seger's rendition of the Holiday classic "Little Drummer Boy," its first appearance on a Bob Seger album, as well as the original mono version of Seger's first hit "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man." All songs on the album have been meticulously remastered from the original master tapes.

Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band return to the road throughout November and December for the second leg of their hugely successful 2011 North American Tour. The tour's upcoming stops include New York City's Madison Square Garden, Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Center, Los Angeles' Staples Center, Orlando Calling Festival (Seger's first festival performance since 1980), Baltimore's 1st Mariner Arena, Ottawa's Scotiabank Place, Dallas' American Airlines Center, Phoenix's US Airways Center, Oakland's Oracle Arena, and more. Seger will top off 2011 with his 50th concert of the year, a special New Year's show at Las Vegas' Mandalay Bay Events Center. Rolling Stones’ Some Girls Reissue Includes Newly Discovered Track

The upcoming re-issue of the Rolling Stones’ epic 1978 album, 'Some Girls,' will include a recently unearthed unreleased track that will also be issued as a single.

According to Reuters, producer Don Was discovered the recording, which was made by the Stones while they were working on 'Some Girls' in Paris. The song, “No Spare Parts,” features Mick Jagger on electric piano, Keith Richards on acoustic piano, Ron Wood on pedal steel guitar, Charlie Watts on drums and Bill Wyman on bass, according to Universal Republic Records. The label went on to say the recording was produced by engineer Chris Kimsey in early 1978, and that it features a “country guitar twang, subtle groove and soulful storytelling.”

Andy Shernoff, founder and songwriter of NYC punk/hard rock legends The Dictators, is currently in residency at Lakeside Lounge in NYC...The Dictators are responsible for 1975's proto-punk clasic Go Girl Crazy!, which included the punk-infused cover of "California Sun," two years before the Ramones recorded their version. Shernoff grew up in New York City, in the Queens neighborhood of Jackson Heights. He attended elementary school with Johnny Thunders and Flushing High School with the Fleshtones. After high school, he attended the SUNY New Paltz Music Department. There he started the music magazine The Teenage Wasteland Gazette, known for its sarcastic, wise-guy attitude. The publication's contributors included famed rock critic Lester Bangs, who invited Andy to write for Creem magazine. Shernoff's early profession of choice was rock journalist.

Shernoff went on to become a musician, songwriter, record producer and oenophile. He is a founding member of The Dictators, one of the seminal New York proto-punk bands, for which he composed the lion?s share of the material, played bass guitar, keyboards, sang back-up and occasional lead vocals. He has been involved with a variety of other musical projects over the years, most notably the heavily Dictators-populated Manitoba's Wild Kingdom and Joey Ramone's sole solo studio album, Don't Worry About Me.

In the fall of 2009, he embarked upon a series of solo shows playing songs he wrote or co-wrote and telling the stories behind them. In the spring of 2010, those shows would become "When Giants Walked the Earth - A Musical Memoir by Adny Shernoff," with several tour dates scheduled in the Eastern U.S. and Canada. Shernoff sang "California Sun" in the official Major League Baseball promotional video for the 2010 All-Star Game. Other projects include garage-rock band The Masterplan, featuring members of The Fleshtones and the Waxing Poetics.

His songs have been recorded by The Ramones, Mary Weiss (of the Shangri-Las), Dion DiMucci, Carolyne Mas, Turbonegro, The Hellacopters, Drivin 'N' Cryin, The Del-Lords, Toilet Böys, Young Fresh Fellows, The A-Bones, The Nomads, The Untamed Youth, The Fastbacks, The Vikings, The Streetwalkin Cheetahs, Texas Terri, Tom Clark, The Screaming Tribesman, The Meatmen, Electric Frankenstein, The Prissteens, The Alter Boys, Metal Mike Saunders (Angry Samoans), Furious George, Corpus Christi, Jeff Dahl to name but a few.

As both a journalist and a musician, Andy Shernoff is often credited as "Adny Shernoff," a deliberate typo transposing the second and third letters of his name. Shernoff has never explained the reasoning behind this stylistic quirk.

Vinyl record sales are the rise - fans can tell you why

A quarter-century ago, it seemed shiny, digitally recorded CDs would be the end of vinyl records.

We'd seen the demise of the eight-track tape, and with cassettes on their way out as well, CDs seemed to be the heir apparent. Then MP3 players came along, and with them a whole new way to listen to music. It appeared records were destined to become just a distant, dusty memory.

But then something happened: People started to get interested in vinyl again. Partly fueled by nostalgic baby boomers looking to re-experience their youth, and a younger generation that perhaps discovered records scouring their parents' vintage collections, there was a renewed interest in buying records.

True audiophiles will tell you the sound quality of vinyl versus CDs and MP3 players is obvious. They love the sound of the needle hitting the record, the slightly scratchy timbre and the pureness of it. They say they get something deeper than they do from listening to their iPods with ear buds.

The next year, Apple opened the iTunes digital music store; even though it held only 200,000 songs, a natural synergy was created with the iPod. In the 1990s, when it was assumed that the CD would quickly kill both vinyl and cassette tape as the preferred method of transmission for recorded music, Troy Bennett was still collecting records.

“I remember when I was younger, I inherited a ton of records. That was my intro to vinyl. I definitely was drawn to it very early on,” said Bennett. “Something grabbed me about that sound. It’s got that warmth that nothing else can really replace.”

In 1961, Chubby Checker appeared on the "Ed Sullivan Show" and performed "The Twist."

In 1964, The Who, then known as the High Numbers, auditioned for EMI Records, who turned them down.

"Get Off My Cloud" was released in the U.K. by the Rolling Stones in 1965.

In 1966, the Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations" made its debut on the US singles chart. It was a song that Brian Wilson and Mike Love wrote and Brian spent six months working on. The tracks were recorded in seventeen different sessions in four Los Angeles studios, at a cost of over sixteen thousand dollars. The recording engineer would later say that the last take sounded exactly like the first, six months earlier. The record would reach number one on December 10th 1966 and be nominated for Song Of The Year at The Grammy Awards, but lost to "Winchester Cathedral" by The New Vaudeville Band.

In 1966, according to Cashbox Magazine, ? And The Mysterians had the best selling tune in America with "96 Tears". The song has since been ranked #210 on the Rolling Stone list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Also in 1966, the Supremes became the first female group to have a number one album on the US chart when the LP "Supremes A-Go-Go" reached the top. It knocked The Beatles' "Revolver" from the head of the list.

In 1969, Paul McCartney publicly denies rumors that he is dead. The most recent of many "clues" of this Death Hoax was the fact that he was the only barefoot Beatle on the newly released "Abby Road" LP cover. He wrote “Dirty Old Town” and “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” a #1 hit for Roberta Flack in 1972). Acts including Planxty, The Dubliners, Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash recorded his songs. He was the father of singer and songwriter Kirsty MacColl.

In 1990, Pearl Jam played their first ever concert when they appeared at the Off Ramp in Seattle.

In 1992, Members of Boyz II Men receive awards for having the longest running #1 song of the Rock era. "End Of the Road" broke Elvis' record of 11 weeks, previously held by "Don't Be Cruel / Hound Dog".

In 1996, sales figures were released that showed that the Beatles sold 6,000,000 albums from their back catalog and a combined total of 13,000,000 copies of "The Beatles Anthology 1" and "The Beatles Anthology 2". A poll revealed that 41% of sales were to teenagers who were not even born when The Beatles split up in 1970.

John Lennon’s Tooth Goes To Auction

It's being reported that one of John Lennon‘s teeth is going under the hammer on November 5th in Stockport, England. The tooth is expected to fetch as much as $16,000 during Omega Auction’s Vinyl, Music & Film Memorabilia sale. The story goes that the tooth was gifted by the the late Beatles star to his then housekeeper Dot Jarlett; when she was working for him at his Kenwood mansion in Surrey, England, in the late ’60s.

“He was in the kitchen and he had this tooth which he had wrapped in a piece of paper,” Dot’s son, Barry Jarlett, told the BBC. “He said, ‘Dot will you dispose of this’ and then he said, ‘Or, as your daughter’s a Beatles fan, you can give to her as a souvenir.’”

“It is something that we felt was very personal and my mum actually gave it to my sister who has kept it safe,” Jarlett continued. “He was very generous to my mother.”

Omega Auctions’s Karen Fairweather says the Lennon tooth, which comes with an affidavit verifying its authenticity signed by Dot Jarlett.

Karen Fairweather also says, "This is the most wonderful and weird item that we have ever had for sale. It is a truly unique item and it is really difficult to put a value on it. We are expecting it to achieve at least £10,000 but it is not unknown for items as rare as this to reach six figures."

Famed Rock & Roll Photographer Barry Feinstein Dies

WOODSTOCK, N.Y.-  Legendary behind-the-scenes photographer Barry Feinstein, who also shot iconic album covers for Bob Dylan and George Harrison, has died in upstate New York. He was 80.

Feinstein’s best known images include the picture of Dylan on the cover of 1964’s “The Times They Are A-Changin’” and of Harrison sitting among garden gnomes on his 1970 solo album, “All Things Must Pass.”

Time-Life Finally Releasing CDs of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Performances

Over the last few years, Time Life has issued a number of different DVD sets featuring highlights from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies ranging from a 10-disc set to smaller, themed packages; however, they've never released the performances on CD or in the digital marketplace.

On November 1, the label will release The Best of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame + Museum Live, a three-CD set that includes highlights from throughout the years including performances by Bruce Springsteen (6!), the Who, the Kinks, Cream, the Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton and many, many more.

Dr. Katrina McFerran, a researcher at University Of Melbourne — which consistently ranks among the best universities in Australia and the world, especially in the biological and health sciences — is immersed in a new study that aims to find out why some young people use heavy metal music in a negative way.

By conducting in-depth interviews with 50 young people aged between 13 and 18, along with a national survey of 1000 young people, McFerran is looking to develop an early intervention model that can be integrated into schools to impact positively before behavioral problems occur.

The Soggy Bottom Boys Reunite as O Brother, Where Art Thou? Turns 10

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- This year marks the 10 year anniversary of O Brother, Where Art Thou?, the landmark film and soundtrack that sparked a cultural phenomenon. To this day it still has a significant influence and impact on modern pop as evident in some of today's top acts, from Neo-traditional Americana bands from The Secret Sisters, The Civil Wars and Carolina Chocolate Drops to alternative mainstays Mumford & Sons, and Fleet Foxes.

For the first time since their notable O Brother, Where Art Thou? appearance, the fictional Soggy Bottom Boys reunite with original cast member Tim Blake Nelson joined by the scene stealing yodeler Pat Enright (guitar), Alan O'Bryant (banjo), and Mike Compton (mandolin), all from the Grammy® Award-winning Nashville Bluegrass Band, for a video shoot at the Tennessee State Prison for the song "In The Jailhouse Now" from the original motion picture soundtrack. Along with ALBUM OF THE YEAR honors, the album won GRAMMYs® for "I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow" performed by Dan Tyminski, Harley Allen and Pat Enright, and "O Death" by the legendary Dr. Ralph Stanley.

Earlier this year, UMe celebrated the 10th Anniversary with an expanded two-CD set, O Brother, Where Art Thou? – Deluxe Edition, with legendary original producer T Bone Burnett personally involved in all aspects of this release.

The album that rocketed bluegrass, roots and even Americana music from the 20th Century into the new millennium features a 14-track bonus disc. Twelve of these newly-released songs were recorded during original sessions for the film, most of which went unheard on-screen. This release marks the first time these tracks have been made available in any format.

The second disc of the O Brother, Where Art Thou? – Deluxe Edition features artists who appeared on the original album (John Hartford, Norman Blake, the Fairfield Four, the Cox Family and the Peasall Sisters) plus some who did not (Colin Linden, Alan O'Bryant, Ed Lewis and Van Dyke Parks). The disc's previously recorded tracks are "Tom Devil" by Ed Lewis and the Prisoners, and "I'll Fly Away" by the Kossoy Sisters. An alternative version of "In the Jailhouse Now", sung by the late Harley Allen, with Pat Enright's signature yodel, is also on the bonus disc.

In 1955, Elvis Presley, Bill Haley, The Four Lads and Pat Boone appear together in concert at the Brooklyn High School auditorium in Cleveland, Ohio.

Also in 1955, "Day-O" was recorded by Harry Belafonte. It reached #5 in the US in early 1957 and later became Belafonte's signature song.

The Elvis Presley film "G.I. Blues" premiered in 1960.

In 1962, Bobby “Boris” Pickett and the Crypt Kickers started a two-week run at #1 on the US singles chart with “Monster Mash.” It became a #3 hit in the UK 11 years later in 1973. The song had been banned by the BBC in the UK, deemed offensive. This novelty song, which was recorded in less than two hours, has now become an annual favorite.

It was released as a "double A-sided" single with "Day Tripper", the first time both sides of a single were so designated in an initial release. Both songs were recorded during the Rubber Soul sessions

McCartney wrote the words and music to the verses and the chorus, with lyrics that "might have been personal", probably a reference to his relationship with Jane Asher.  McCartney then took the song to Lennon: "I took it to John to finish it off, and we wrote the middle together. Which is nice: 'Life is very short. There's no time for fussing and fighting, my friend.' Then it was George Harrison's idea to put the middle into waltz time, like a German waltz. That came on the session, it was one of the cases of the arrangement being done on the session.

The only time The Beatles played this live was on their final British tour in November/December 1965. McCartney didn't perform the song until 1991, when he played it on his 1991 MTV Unplugged appearance. On his 2002 Back In The US tour, McCartney played a solo version on his acoustic guitar.

The remaining members, Gary Rossington, Allen Collins, Billy Powell and Leon Wilkeson were seriously injured, but all recovered.
