Ask Mr. Music by Jerry Osborne

FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 4, 2014

DEAR JERRY: You have created many lists requested by readers who could not get the information on their own. Now it's my turn.

Nowhere have I seen a chronological listing of prominent vinyl era musicians who died young, meaning under age 60.

Their style of music doesn't matter, but please limit the coverage to 50 years — 1950 through 1999.

I don't require obituaries, or details on how and why they died, just their name and age at time of passing.
—Bernie Foster, Denver

DEAR BERNIE: A reasonable request indeed, as long as you don't mind getting it in two chunks.

About the only commentary I'll add will be for decedents whose notoriety is primarily based on a group, or ones who share the same name with a different performer, such as Carl Perkins.

Just having a name makes finding an online bio-obit easy.

There are some lesser-known group members who are not included at this time; however, they may be added in the future.

Vinyl Record News & Music Notes

selected pre-orders from our friends at SoundStageDirect

Pocket Full Of Kryptonite (Pre-Order) by Spin Doctors

This reissue of Pocket Full Of Kryptonite by SoundStageDirect is a special project for both the band and Seth Frank, President and founder of SoundStageDirect. Seth’s passion for vinyl started at the young age of 11 when he began working at the Princeton Record Exchange. It was in that very record store where a friendship between Seth and Chris Barron, the lead singer of the Spin Doctors solidified over a mutual love of music.

As the legend goes, Chris Barron went in to the Princeton Record Exchange in Princeton, N.J., when he was about 13 years old. He met 15-year-old Seth who at the time worked at the store which Chris thought was really cool. With $3 of hard-earned allowance in his pocket, Chris asked Seth, ‘What’s a really good album that’s like, cheap?’ Seth said, “Dude, ‘Live At Leeds,’ It’s a killer album.” And so Chris bought his first vinyl album for 99 cents, and walked out with enough money left over for a slice of pizza and a soda.

The two teenagers who bonded over their passion for music and vinyl records in particular are still friends today, coming full circle with the limited edition kryptonite-green vinyl release of Pocket Full Of Kryptonite. It’s very clear both men still share the same excitement about bringing music to people, each in their own way.

Pocket Full of Kryptonite, originally pressed in 1991 sold over six million copies worldwide and was on Billboard’s pop chart for an incredible 115 straight weeks.  As a jam band in the vein of Blues Traveler and Phish, Spin Doctors built a grassroots following by playing anywhere and everywhere. After a live EP caught their early potential, they released this uncharacteristically tight debut album. Featuring several hits that could have appeared on a Steve Miller Band album, Kryptonite became an immediate frat-rock favorite. Thanks to a spotless production, the tight groove of "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong," "Two Princes," and "Jimmy Olsen's Blues" immediately connected with audiences who seemed to find singer Chris Barron's hapless hippie lyrics and goofy grin a winning combination. --Rob O'Connor

The Spin Doctors are currently on tour with all of the original members (Chris Barron, Eric Schenkman, Aaron Comess & Mark White).

Waking The Fallen: Resurrected (Deluxe Edition) (Pre-Order) by Avenged Sevenfold

One of the world’s largest rock bands Avenged Sevenfold presents, Resurrected, a new album experience unlike anything they have ever released. Avenged Sevenfold has personally curated this back from the dead look at their fan favorite, genre defining, breakthrough album Waking The Fallen. This rare new release includes 11 never before heard songs, 23 total tracks, new artwork, a never before seen music video for Unholy Confessions, and a 30 minute film featuring the present day band. This is a must own album for any A7X fan!

Lets take a closer look at this brand new content....

Two new songs, including the lead track Waking The Fallen: Resurrected, which had been lost to history before it was discovered buried deep within the original multi track recordings. Originally intended to make the album as a full song, it was ultimately reworked into a vocal free intro. Later the band drew inspiration from this lost song’s piano intro, building it out into their hit song Beast And The Harlot off of their next album City Of Evil. This song is a previously unknown link between two major era’s in the band’s career.

Four never before heard demos recorded by Thrice’s Teppei Teranishi including, Chapter Four, Remenissions, I Won't See You Tonight Part 1, I Won't See You Tonight Part 2. These early version demos contain alternate lyrics, melodies, and arrangements giving fans a unique and unprecedented behind the scenes look at the evolution of four of the band’s most popular songs.

Five live versions from some of the band’s earliest shows including Chapter Four (Live In Ventura), Desecrate Through Reverence (Live In Pomona), Eternal Rest (Live In Pomona), Unholy Confessions (Live In Ventura), Second Heartbeat (Live In Ventura). Very little live material from this era of Avenged Sevenfold’s career has ever seen the light of day.

A 30 minute documentary featuring brand new interviews from band looking back on the of the lead up, demoing, recording and touring around the Waking The Fallen album. The 30 minute film includes personal behind the scenes home movies and photos from the band’s earliest days. The original Unholy Confessions music video, which has never been seen by the public. This first ever Avenged Sevenfold music video has been locked away with the intention of never being released, but now the band is including this rare video as a tribute to their late drummer The Rev.

Expanded artwork including new photos and illustrations created by the original album artist.

CAN - 14 CATALOG ALBUMS RE-ISSUED ON INDIVIDUAL VINYL FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OVER A DECADE

MONSTER MOVIE, TAGO MAGO, SOUNDTRACKS, EGE BAMYASI TO BE AVAILABLE SEPT 2nd, 2014

Seminal experimental rock group Can will re-issue fourteen catalog albums on vinyl, which have been unavailable on the format for over a decade. The first four to be released - Monster Movie, Tago Mago, Soundtracks, and Ege Bamyasi – are regarded as some of the most groundbreaking works in rock history and are due out September 2nd, 2014, on Mute.

Can will also release The Lost Tapes as five individual vinyl albums, previously released only as a box set.

Can, founded in 1968 by Irmin Schmidt, Holger Czukay, Michael Karoli and Jaki Liebezeit, formed a group that utilized and transformed all boundaries of ethnic, electronic experimental and modern classical music.  Regarded as one of the most influential avant-garde rock groups in history, Can were at the forefront of the German krautrock movement of the late 1960’s and early 70’s along with such bands as Neu! and Kraftwerk. Combing elements of psychedelia with classic pop and progressive compositional methods, Can’s music directly inspired major artists of the period such as David Bowie and Iggy Pop, before going on to shape everything from indie rock to electronica.

Can’s powerful influence has never diminished, and their mark is apparent in the bands who freely acknowledge their significance - from Portishead, James Murphy, New Order, Factory Floor, Public Image Ltd, Mogwai, Kanye West and Radiohead.

Earlier this year, Faber & Faber announced they will release a Can biography / symposium, curated by Irmin Schmidt. The biography will be written by Rob Young, and the symposium section will use Can as a starting point for a collection of stories, statements and interviews. For more information, click here

The 33 1/3 series of books have just announced that Alan Warner, a long time fan of the band and the author of the sleeve notes for the acclaimed Can Vinyl Box release, will release a book about Tago Mago in November. For more information, click here

Upcoming release schedule for the entire vinyl reissue series:

October 7th: Future Days, Soon Over Babaluma, Landed, Flow Motion, Saw Delight (inc CD)

October 21st:  Can, Delay, Out Of Reach (inc first time on CD), Rite Time, Unlimited Edition

November 4th: The Lost Tapes, volumes 1-5

new releases from MergeRecords

Frozen Letter - Spider Bags

Formed in 2005, Chapel Hill, North Carolina’s Spider Bags were largely a revolving cast, with only Dan McGee (guitars, vocals) persevering through the various incarnations of the band. But during the 2011 recording of Shake My Head, the current lineup consisting of Steve Oliva (bass) and Rock Forbes (drums) was finally solidified. Building upon the foundation laid down by its predecessor, Frozen Letter rocks with the clairvoyance of three musicians who have spent a lot of time recording and touring together over the last few years. “When we started this record, we weren’t even thinking about it being released. We just did it to have fun and keep moving forward,” says Forbes. This approach allowed the band to push itself further out into the psychedelic frontier than ever before, aided by engineer/producer Wesley Wolfe.  Recorded mostly live over the course of a few days, there’s an exhilarating urgency to the record, as heard in riff-driven rockers like “Back With You Again in the World” and “Chem Trails.” The band brings the tempo down a notch for “Coffin Car,” which finds them mining an ominous morbidity over one of their prettier chord patterns. “We Got Problems” comes on like a true acid trip, alternating between utter terror and unfettered joy. Featuring a heavy and repetitive pattern, a slew of effected guitars, and searing guest leads from Superchunk’s Mac McCaughan, the song encapsulates an entire Spider Bags epoch in under six minutes. Frozen Letter is the band’s fourth full-length record overall and first for Merge Records.

LP is pressed on translucent red vinyl. LP includes a coupon for a full download.

End Times Undone - David Kilgour

The latest album from David Kilgour & the Heavy Eights was recorded in his native New Zealand between 2012 and 2014, but that’s a bit misleading. In fact, very misleading. That span covering three calendar years suggests this might be one of those albums that was slaved over, with weeks-upon-months spent recording and then mixing until every minor detail was perfected. The opposite is true. End Times Undone took so long to finish only because Kilgour assembled his bandmates every four or five months, and then only for a couple days at a time. And when they convened, the tape was rolling almost from the start.

“We’ve become so obsessed with capturing the creative moment as early as possible when we get together,” Kilgour says of making music with guitarist Tony de Raad, bassist Tom Bell, and drummer Taane Tokona.

It’s the perfect way for Kilgour to operate these days, more than 30 years into a career that is equally compelling, consistent, and influential. From his first recordings with The Clean, the iconic band who remain active and whose legend deservedly grows mightier every year, Kilgour has had a distinct sound that has inhabited all of his albums and sounds fresh with every new release.

End Times Undone will be released shortly after a reissue of The Clean’s Anthology, a 46-track set that serves as the band’s defining document that can attest to their pantheon status. End Times Undone is a perfect companion piece to that collection that left off in 1996, and in many ways feels like it could have simply been the next album helmed by Kilgour instead of one that comes nearly 20 years later. That’s what happens when you have an artist so comfortable with his sound and approach that you just turn on the amps and start playing. —David Malitz

All LPs will be pressed on randomly colored vinyl. LP includes a coupon for a full download.

ANDREW LILES – THE MALEFICENT MONSTER

Massively prolific UK artist, and Nurse With Wound and Current 93 member, Andrew Liles returns to Blackest Rainbow. This new full length LP consists of themes, incidental music, bridging songs, interludes, creaks and groans created as imaginary soundtracks for imaginary horror films. 40 minutes of musical interpretations on a ‘horrific’ theme influenced by such maestros as Donald Rubinstein, John Carpenter, Fabio Frizzi and Ennio Morricone. The tracks cover a vast amount of ground including austere orchestral pieces, voodoo drums, torture porn, possession, cheesy 80′s soundtracks, Giallo, 70′s synths, mellotrons, flutes, piano and much much more. Andrew also commissioned legendary UK artist and graphic designer Graham Humphreys, the man behind the incredible original UK quad posters for Evil Dead II and the Nightmare On Elm Street series. Graham has recently worked with Death Waltz for their Zombie Flesh Eaters and their impending City Of The Living Dead reissue.

The LP is released strictly old school style, no digital download, in an edition of 500 in UV gloss finished sleeve, and pressed on 180gm slime green vinyl.

Voyag3r – Doom Fortress

Doom Fortress is the debut full length album from Detroit’s Voyag3r (pronounced Voyager Three). XL Recordings Celebrates 25th anniversary With Star-Studded Box Set

On 25th August XL Recordings will be releasing 'Pay Close Attention,' a compilation that celebrates the key releases and moments from XL’s 25 year history.

XL Recordings is a collaborative endeavour, and many people have contributed to its evolution.

In the song “Out Of Space”, Liam Howlett of The Prodigy provided a blueprint when he sampled Kool Keith of Ultramagnetic MC’s rapping these words: “Pay Close Attention”.

And whilst XL has never had any outside ownership, Gil Scott-Heron advisedme not to even consider XL “independent”; because everything is connected.

This compilation is an attempt to illustrate some of these connections.

Part 1 is the roots of XL; underground music, made for DJ’s. These roots are still growing.

Part 2 features some of the singular talents who have taken the label further than we ever envisioned. There is no unifying genre, and I’ll happily confess to aesthetic opportunism; hopefully the thread of originality is evident though.

We’ve never compromised. The rave music XL first became known for was known as “hardcore”; that spirit continues.

To show our appreciation for your support: thank you DJ’s.  And thank you also to the retailers, writers and of course, ravers. -- Richard Russell, London, 2014

KORN - KORN

Korn is the eponymous debut studio album by the American Nu-Metal band Korn. It was released in 1994, right after the band toured with Biohazard and House of Pain. The album’s themes mainly consisted of both drug and child abuse. Korn was well received by music critics. The band stormed the alternative scene virtually overnight, and is said to have established Nu-Metal.

Bands like Coal Chamber and Limp Bizkit were inspired by the album’s rage, emphasising similar grooves and song structures, including some Hip Hop elements. Slipknot, Machine Head, and Sepultura were also inspired by the album. The album launched the career of record producer Ross Robinson, who later produced albums such as Three Dollar Bill, Yall by Limp Bizkit and Slipknot’s first two albums.

Cold World -  How The Gods Chill

Years in the making, "How The Gods Chill" is the definitive Cold World album that the hardcore world has been clamoring for. Recorded by Will Yip (Studio 4) and Arthur Rizk (Salomon's Gate) "How The Gods Chill" is a thirteen song amalgamation of Hip Hop character and Hardcore heart. Openers "Blind" and “The Real Deal” bounce and stomp akin to "Urban Discipline" era Biohazard. While "Never Knows Best" and "No More Fun and Games" melodically and respectfully pay homage to influential legends Only Living Witness and Life Of Agony. It wouldn’t be a Cold World album without a myriad of diverse guest appearances. Queens rapper Meyhem Lauren, George Hirsch of Blacklisted, legendary Kool G. Rap, and even Max B are all featured on the album. Altogether creating an infectious melting pot of sound and spirit unlike anything out there today.

Naomi Punk - Television Man

Over the last four years, Olympia-based punk trio Naomi Punk – featuring singer/guitarist Travis Coster, guitarist Neil Gregerson, and drummer Nic Luempert – have been lighting up DIY warehouses and large concert halls alike with their singular brand of mid-tempo, cathartic punk. Commencing their breakout  2012 debut ‘The Feeling’, Naomi Punk return to the fold with their sophomore record, ‘Television Man’ – their first for Captured Tracks. A key fixture in the Northwest DIY punk scene, Naomi Punk channel a similar energy to their contemporaries (Milk Music, Broken Water, Vexx, Gag) and their fore bearers (Wipers, Dead Moon, Nirvana) while cultivating a body of work and aesthetic that is wholly their own. Home recorded in Olympia, Washington over the Fall and Winter of 2013, and mastered by Rick Fisher at RFI, ‘Television Man’ is a collection of oblique punk anthems and collaged instrumental pieces which best showcases the cathartic aggression that has become their signature.

Vinyl Record News & Music Notes

our friends at ThrillJockey have some fantastic pre-orders!

Local Agent - Charlatan

Local Agent is the fourth LP by Charlatan, a.k.a. Brad Rose, label-head of Digitalis, also known as The North Sea and one half of Safiyya. Local Agent is Charlatan's streamlined statement, an amalgam of spy and sci-fi techno with touches of abstract dub, finely mastered by John Tejada.

Local Agent is a great culmination of several years’ work by Brad Rose, who has been studying and styling a conceptual and abstract merge between industrial-beat and techno structures, with a sensitivity for narrative and the description of futuristic landscapes (retro-futuristic / Lab style). While employing his usual set of tools (electronic synthesis, cyclical melodies and techno/abstract rhythms), this time around Brad Rose/Charlatan is also playing inside the most turbulent dub territories, jointed by crushed and anonymous bass lines, to create tracks loaded with kinetic content, pieces that move within the grounds of science fiction and spy thrillers, a paranoia-rich sound apt for a J.G. Ballard novel. Local Agent can be understood as a complete musical work; although there are eight separate tracks, and each has its own personality, the full set creates a drama articulated by chapters, almost like a story-line. And this is also another success of Local Agent, the symmetrical conjunction between two axes that are usually distant: cold post-apocalyptic whisperings, dramatic industrial landscapes; and on the other side, a variety of playful melodic sequences, which function as an interlude or a precedent for freer and more abstract parts that could almost be imagined as a complex, epic confrontation. Local Agent is -metaphorically speaking- the process of a machine-like entity, a halogen-lit golem, a schizoid double agent, and a society that works feverishly for the last few hours before the great crash.

LP limited to 300 copies, pressed on yellow transparent colored vinyl and packaged in uncoated stock jackets with double sided insert, black polylined inner sleeve, and free download card. The download card includes the entire album plus remixes from Roll The Dice and Black Hat.

While supplies last all mailorder customers will receive the Dead Drop as a free bonus cassette.  The Dead Drop contains 8 additional new tracks from Charlatan recorded during the sessions for Local Agent. Dead Drop is limited to 100 pro-dubbed chrome tapes with 4 panel J-card and download code. The tape is not available for sale separately.

This is a pre-order for August 26th street date. All orders containing Local Agent will ship on or slightly before the street date.  All songs produced Brad Rose. Mastered by John Tejada

Instinct Is Forever - Bastard Sapling

After recording and releasing 2012’s critically acclaimed Dragged From Our Restless Trance LP via Forcefield Records, Bastard Sapling has ventured to push their other-worldly black metal creation further into the shattered abyss with Instinct is Forever. After spending years crafting new material, they put their songs in the capable hands of Kevin Bernsten (Triac, Mutilation Rites, Ilsa) at Developing Nations in Baltimore, MD. Simultaneously starker and more serene than their previous efforts, Instinct Is Forever is a step forward in terms of Bastard Sapling’s traditional Scandinavian influences being warped by their own geography and a new experimental approach. The new double LP, set to be co-released by Forcefield Records and Gilead Media on Agust 26, 2014, is armed with guest appearances by Windhand’s Dorthia Cottrell, Evoken’s Don Zaros, and Inter Arma’s TJ Childers. Instinct Is Forever is sure to make a serious impact on North America’s contribution to the medium.

Mastered by Adam Tucker at Signaturetone Mastering. Lacquers cut by Rare Form Mastering. Vinyl pressed at Gotta Groove Records in Cleveland, OH.

2xLP packaged in gatefold jacket. First pressing limited to 400 copies on black vinyl, 400 copies on red and clear vinyl.  CD packaged in 4 panel digipak w/lyric booklet.  This is a pre-order for August 26th street date.  All orders containing Instinct Is Forever will ship on or slightly before the street date.

The Earth Wants Us Dead - Sea Of Bones

Connecticut doom-weavers Sea of Bones bring their 2013 self-released epic to the vinyl format for the first time as a 3xLP. The Earth Wants Us Dead is a deep listen of an album made up of sludging, droning doom containing obvious, but subtle, psychedelic influences. The songs are sprawling and massive, destructive and intense, with plodding, atmospheric power.

The Earth Wants Us Dead has been meticulously re-mastered for vinyl by Adam Tucker at Signaturetone Recording, resulting in a much different listening experience than the original digital masters.

For six years fans of Sea of Bones waited for a proper full-length follow up to their 2007 demo, The Harvest. Although time generally brings decay and death to everything it touches, the result was quite the opposite with Sea of Bones. In 2013 they returned with The Earth Wants Us Dead, an album of sludging, droning doom containing obvious, but subtle, psychedelic influences. The songs are sprawling and massive, destructive and intense, with plodding, atmospheric power. Following the doom assault, comes the title track of the album. A single, 39-minute drone composition that lays the album to rest. Allowing the listener time for reflection and recovery across two full sides of vinyl.

The Earth Wants Us Dead is presented as a double gatefold 3xLP limited to 500 copies : 200 black, 150 clear green, 150 brown. Download code included.  This is a pre-order for August 26th street date.  All orders containing The Earth Wants Us Dead will ship on or slightly before the street date.

Glitter Glamour Atrocity - WHITE HILLS

Glitter Glamour Atrocity is WHITE HILLS’ second album, originally self-released in January 2007 as a limited edition CD and unavailable on any other format until now. The album has now been mastered by Heba Kadry at Timeless Mastering and is being released on both CD & LP with brand new artwork. WHITE HILLS perform album track "Under Skin Or By Name" in the Jim Jarmusch film Only Lovers Left Alive.

Glitter Glamour Atrocity is a snapshot of the band in the midst of an incredible burst of creativity, and was recorded during the same sessions that produced Heads On Fire and Abstractions & Mutations.

Sonically, it is radically different from anything else coming out of the New York underground at the time, and it set the template for the singular concoction of heavy psychedelic music, krautrock, and a worship of pure sound they have explored in different variations ever since. Throughout the album the band explores themes of greed, misinformation, war, hypocrisy and their outcomes within the world’s political and economic systems, presenting these weighty topics with the same air of mystic understanding that underpins their music. Glitter Glamour Atrocity includes the song “Under Skin Or By Name,” the longest running staple in the band’s live set, which the band performed in the acclaimed film Only Lovers Left Alive at the request of director Jim Jarmusch. It is one of only two performances in the movie, which is enamored with the music making process and record collector culture.

Following the mood-setting intro track and the meditative bombast of “Under Skin or By Name,” WHITE HILLS settle into the sparse groove of “Spirit of Exile,” an expression of a desire to live apart from a culture that one does not fit into. These songs glow with the burning vitality and passion of free thinkers trapped in the waning years of the Bush administration. Those sentiments are perhaps most compellingly expressed on “Love Serve Remember,” a warped, surreal vision of life after 9/11 seen through the eyes of someone who witnessed the event first-hand, interspersed with a brilliantly edited speech by Bush himself in which he admits “I was a threat to the United States.”

Glitter Glamour Atrocity was recorded with the first iteration of the trio line-up with Dave W. on vocals, guitar, synthesizers, and sound collage, Ego Sensation on bass and vocals, and Bob Bellomo on drums.

It was recorded at Bellomo’s studio in Passaic, NJ, and produced by Dave W. This new edition is the first time the album has been pressed on vinyl, properly mastered and presented with brand new artwork.

The LP version is pressed on virgin vinyl with a free download coupon.  While supplies last mailorder customers will be treated to a translucent blue vinyl edition (LIMITED TO ONLY 500). CD version is packaged in a 4 panel mini-LP style gatefold package.

This is a pre-order for August 26th street date. All orders containing Glitter Glamour Atrocity will ship on or slightly before the street date.

Savage Imagination - Dustin Wong & Takako Minekawa

Dustin Wong and Takako Minekawa are artistic omnivores, soaking up a myriad of cultural artifacts and styles, savoring bits and pieces and recontexutalizing them into an entirely delightful and playfully intricate songs. Their songs are embued with a relentless cheerfulness that belies their technicality, steeped in the history of Japanese pop music and exuding the joy of discovery and exploration. Dustin and Takako are serious musicians not afraid to play it silly. Savage Imagination is their second album as a duo and shows their collaboration in full bloom. It is an collection of vibrant pop music, laced with the sounds of video games, radiophonic experiments, and indigenous music from around the world.

In preparation for writing and recording Savage Imagination, Dustin and Takako developed a new interface in which they could both seamlessly shift from guitar to keyboards to sampler to vocals, expanding timbral possibilities and allowing them to utilize many of the dynamic looping techniques Dustin perfected in his solo work with this wider palate. As that palate morphs throughout Savage Imagination, Takako breathy but emotionally resonant voice remains a constant, providing characteristically inventive melodies that soar above Dustin’s florescent guitars. On “She He See Feel” Takako sings about quantum physics, human consciousness, and flying above a desert all within the framework of Japanese puns. Their playful energy and omnivorous approach is reflected in the album’s art, a diorama created by the duo while they were recording the music.

Savage Imagination was recorded at home by Takako and Dustin: “We both hit the record button for each other.” Dustin was introduced to the world as a member of Ponytail, and has spent the past several years making incredibly deep and complex albums of looped solo electric guitar for Thrill Jockey. Takako Minekawa first rose to international prominence as a Shibuya-kei singer in the mid-90s with the song “Fantastic Cat” and her albums Roomic Cube and Cloudy Cloud Calculator. She has collaborated with Ryuichi Sakamoto, Cornelius, Buffalo Daughter, Dymaxion, and others. Dustin and Takako will tour Asia and North America this fall as a duo.

First 500 LPs pressed on mint green vinyl packaged in a high gloss gatefold jacket with free download card. CD version in high gloss mini-LP style gatefold package.

Savage Imagination is the duo’s second collaborative album, and Dustin’s first release since he completed his trilogy of solo looped guitar albums last year.

This is a pre-order for September 23rd street date. All orders containing Savage Imagination will ship on or slightly before the street date.

ILSE DELANGE - LIVIN’ ON LOVE

Country-pop singer Ilse DeLange emerged as one of the most successful Dutch artists of her generation with her chart-topping 1998 debut, World Of Hurt [MOVLP938]. Rumors of a new album were heard in mid 2000. The first single "Livin' On Love" was released in October, after which her sophomore studio album Livin' On Love was released.

The album was a musical departure from her debut, leaning more toward Pop/Rock. With this album, Ilse gained even more State-side interest due to her covers of 2 songs by popular American singer/songwriters Buddy and Julie Miller ("I Still Cry" and "Ride The Wind To Me"), and other songs written by Patty Larkin, Jude Cole and Wayne Kirkpatrick. Alison Krauss also provided guest vocals.

In 2001 DeLange started her Livin' On Love Tour, performing in many theaters and concert halls throughout her home country. She won an Edison Award for best Dutch artist in 2000. The album has never been released on vinyl before – which makes a first pressing of 500 numbered copies on white vinyl all the more special!

STEVE HARLEY & COCKNEY REBEL - THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES

The Best Years Of Our Lives is an album by Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel released in March 1975. It was their first album that used Harley's name ahead of the band (the band was previously known simply as Cockney Rebel). This album was a big hit in Steve Harley's native England and on the mainland.

The album contains the band's biggest hit, the million selling "Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)" and "Mr. Raffles". Other standout tracks include the driving rocker "The Mad, Mad Moonlight" and the acoustic ballad title track. The album was recorded and mixed at the EMI Studios, Abbey Road, London and Air Studios, London during November and December 1974. Alan Parsons produced the album.

The Best Years Of Our Lives is a fine, slickly crafted album that will delight Steve Harley enthusiasts and will also appeal to fans of Glam-oriented 1970s English rock.

KENSINGTON - RIVALS

Rivals is the new album of Dutch Indie Rock band Kensington. This band from Utrecht, Holland scored hits with "Home Again" and "Ghosts", performed on the biggest festivals, sold out tours and shows all over the world. They received an MTV Award and multiple radio Awards in the Netherlands.

All these positive experiences were taken into the studio, which resulted in the next step up for these rockers. "Rivals is a search for the enemy inside every human being, and represents two faces of the band: one of light Pop songs and one of dark, epic Rock songs."

Kensington's first single "Streets" is already becoming a hit and the anthem of this year's festival season. The song "All For Nothing" is the title track of the upcoming Dutch thriller movie Bloedlink, which opens the Dutch Film Festival in September 2014, and is already a hit on popular Dutch Radio.

The first vinyl pressing will be released on red wax. This brand new Kensington album also includes a free CD copy!

KEB' MO' - JUST LIKE YOU

Just Like You is the third album by three-time American Grammy Award-winning blues musician Keb' Mo' (born Kevin Moore). Keb'Mo' has been described as "a living link to the seminal Delta blues that travelled up the Mississippi River and across the expanse of America." His post-modern Blues style is influenced by many eras and genres, including Folk, Rock, Jazz and Pop.

Originally released in 1996, the album features guest artists Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt, both on the title track "Just Like You". Unlike the first album, Just Like You features a more Blues-Pop to Blues Rock feel and more of its tracks feature a full band. The album was produced by John Porter (Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Taj Mahal, a.o.).

In 1997, Just Like You won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album. This is the first ever vinyl issue of this classic album!

Busman's Holiday - A Long Goodbye

Busman's Holiday is Lewis and Addison Rogers, brothers of melodic charm and ecstatic showmanship. Lewis plays guitar, and Addison plays drums. The singer/songwriter duo are occasionally accompanied by a string section who fill out their complexly euphonic ballads of love, loss, lust and outer space. Born and raised in Bloomington, Indiana, the pair has toured the U.S. and Canada extensively the past four years, appearing on WNYC's Radiolab, Daytrotter, and backing Jens Lekman.

Though adept in a D.I.Y. aesthetic of acoustic busking with only a guitar and a suitcase drum set, the brothers are equally at home on stage playing their unique songs of wanderlust and first love. Evoking a classic tent-show rock sound joined with the affable atmosphere of the assured vaudevillian, Busman's Holiday possesses their own unique blend of humor and musical talent.

Their debut full-length album, A Long Goodbye, was recorded in the legendary studio-in-a-church owned by Arcade Fire outside Montreal not long before Arcade Fire had to abandon it due to a collapsing roof. It was recorded and produced by Mark Lawson (Arcade Fire, Islands) and mixed by Drew Vandenberg (of Montreal, Kishi Bashi). Also appearing on the album are Jamie Thompson (The Unicorns, Islands) and Sebastien and Alexander Chow (Islands).
