Slant of Light - by Mary Lattimore & Jeff Zeigler
Slant Of Light is the debut album by the duo of harpist Mary Lattimore and multi-instrumentalist Jeff Zeigler.
In most cases intimate musical connections take years to foster, with much time spent learning the others’ unique melodic and harmonic languages before true symbiosis can occur. For harpist Mary Lattimore and multi-instrumentalist Jeff Zeigler that type of deep understanding and effortless communication was almost instantaneous. On their first record as a duo, Slant of Light, Lattimore and Zeigler emerge completely synergetic, offering up stunning improvisations that are as advanced melodically as they are texturally. The four pieces on Slant of Light are seductive and picturesque, with Lattimore’s elaborate melodies blossoming out of Zeigler’s tonal beds of synthesizer and guitar. Equally inviting and challenging, Slant of Light is an impressionistic work that draws on musical histories ancient and contemporary, existing outside current trends in music as a whole. There is nothing that sounds remotely like it.
The strong and fast kinship between Lattimore and Zeigler is best understood in the context of their highly collaborative pasts. Lattimore has recorded and performed with Kurt Vile, Meg Baird, Jarvis Cocker, Wrekmeister Harmonies and Steve Gunn, to name a few, and her years touring with Thurston Moore inform some of Slant of Light’s noisier moments. Zeigler has played with members of Chris Forsyth’s Solar Motel Band, The War on Drugs, and A Sunny Day in Glasgow in his group Arc in Round. The contemplative, dynamic improvisations on Slant of Light reflect the collaborative ingenuity of musicians experienced in adapting their playing and sound to fit multiple contexts.
Slant of Light was recorded by Jeff Zeigler in Philadelphia during a city-stopping snowstorm during the winter of early 2014. Zeigler is one of the most in-demand recording engineers in Philadelphia, and has recorded albums by Kurt Vile, The War on Drugs, Nothing, Purling Hiss, and many others. The cover painting is by Philadelphia based artist Becky Suss.

Earth Suck - Oozing Wound
Modernity is a bummer, and humanity’s drive towards its own destruction is at a fever pitch. Oozing Wound finds humor in our ridiculous habits and, by magnifying our most destructive behavior to its extreme end, allows us to laugh at the idiocy and the horror of it all. This mindset is at the center of their second full-length Earth Suck, a collection of destructive thrash that is seemingly teetering at the edge of control and collapse. Zack Weil’s guitar is reckless, his palm-muted chugs coming at breakneck speed and pinch harmonics squealing like sonic bolts of electricity. Kyle Reynolds’ drumming is unrelenting, wild and unrestrained but executed with a level of jaw dropping precision. Kevin Cribbin’s manic, mammoth bass delivers wallop after wallop of fuzzed out low-end. Oozing Wound’s energetic and expansive variation on thrash thrives on antagonistic repetition and addictive riffage, avoiding pretense like a plague. Oozing Wound revels in the absurdity of horrifying realities, playing up fear and desperation to reveal the underlying humor. On Earth Suck they offer increasingly extreme portraits of moral and societal decay
seen through the eyes of those doing the perpetrating. On “Genuine Creeper” Weil embodies a fetus eating its twin: “Kill your neighbor or kill yourself – I creep tonight.” On “Hippie Speedball” he becomes an addict who can’t go to work without getting high: “I can’t wake up without my hippie speedball.”

YELLO - STELLA
Stella is the fourth studio album by the Swiss electronic band Yello, first released in 1985. It was the band's breakthrough album internationally, helped by the success of the song "Oh Yeah", which gained the band worldwide attention the following year after it was prominently featured in the 1985 film Ferris Bueller's Day Off and then two years later in The Secret Of My Success.
At the time of recording, Boris Blank and Dieter Meier began to move away from experimental electronic sounds towards a more commercial Synth Pop and cinematic soundtrack style. Recorded at the band's Yello Studio on the shore of Lake Zurich, the duo used some rather classic electronic equipment; a Yamaha DX7 and a Roland JX-3P, a Fairlight CMI Series II sampler along with an ARP Odyssey synthesizer, the Linn LM-1 and Oberheim DMX drum machines, a Roland VP-330 Vocoder Plus and more.
Two singles were originally released from Stella. "Vicious Games" was accompanied with a video shot in Yello's Rote Fabrik (Red Factory) working space. The second single, "Desire" was also accompanied by a video, shot in Havana in Cuba to match the song's Latin sound. Following the appearance of "Oh Yeah" in Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Secret Of My Success, the song was also released as a single in 1987.

FUN LOVIN' CRIMINALS - COME FIND YOURSELF
Originally released in 1996, Come Find Yourself is the debut album released by the New York based alternative band Fun Lovin' Criminals. Their musical style is primarily eclectic, covering styles such as Hip Hop, Rock, Funk, Blues and Jazz. Their songs often deal with life in New York City, as well as urban life in general, covering such issues as organized crime, recreational drug use, violence, poverty and politics.
The band gained a large following internationally, notably in northwest Europe, around the release of their first albums Come Find Yourself and Loco in the late '90s. Come Find Yourself includes the hit singles "The Fun Lovin' Criminal" and "King Of New York". The biggest hit on the album is "Scooby Snacks", featuring samples from films by Quentin Tarantino and a guitar sample from Tones On Tail "Movement Of Fear."

His debut album I Created Disco (2007) is much more funky and not so much EDM, but contained a handful of chartbusters as well. Harris combined all the right ingredients on I Created Disco; 80's Wave, Soul, Disco, House, Electro and Pop.

MINISTRY - FILTH PIG
Filth Pig is the sixth studio album by industrial metal band Ministry. Originally released in 1996, the title was allegedly derived from a statement made in the British Houses of Parliament, where bandleader Jourgensen was described as a filthy pig by MP Teddy Taylor.
For Filth Pig, Ministry stripped all synthesizers and most samples from their style and made the music almost entirely with ultra-noisy guitars, heavy bass, and real drums. The songs were played mostly at slower tempos than the very fast ones that were used for the compositions on their previous three LPs, giving it an almost Doom Metal feel. Filth Pig was supported with the singles/videos "Reload", "The Fall", "Lay Lady Lay" ( a cover of Bob Dylan's old country-tinged hit) and "Brick Windows."

lullaby and… The Ceaseless Roar is Plant’s first record since 2010’s Band of Joy, which followed 2007’s six-time Grammy Award–winning collaboration with Alison Krauss, Raising Sand. Justin Adams and John Baggott of The Sensational Space Shifters appeared on Plant’s 2002 release Dreamland, while all but Camara and Smith appeared on 2005’s Mighty Rearranger. The new-album line-up recently toured the world before recording lullaby and… The Ceaseless Roar at Helium Studios in Wiltshire and Real World Studios in Bath, UK. The track “Rainbow” was recorded in Contino Rooms in London. Tchad Blake mixed all but three tracks on the album.
“It’s really a celebratory record, powerful, gritty, African, Trance meets Zep,” Plant says. “The whole impetus of my life as a singer has to be driven by a good brotherhood. I am very lucky to work with The Sensational Space Shifters. They come from exciting areas of contemporary music…I have been around awhile and I ask myself, do I have anything to say? Is there a song still inside me? In my heart? I see life and what’s happening to me. Along the trail there are expectations, disappointments, happiness, questions and strong relationships,” Plant explains, “... and now I’m able to express my feelings through melody, power and trance; together in a kaleidoscope of sound, colour, and friendship.”

Badly Drawn Boy - About A Boy
It was an odds-on favorite that Badly Drawn Boy’s warped yet sunny vision of pop would fit in well with a Nick Hornby novel-turned-movie (especially one about a sensitive, literate, slightly confused man struggling with the responsibilities of most persons his age). Still, there were several unknowns going into the project. Could an artistic iconoclast like Damon Gough control himself when forced to conform by writing a set of songs for specific situations? Would his collection of eccentric production touches, pure honey to any introspective music fan, make any sense in the context of a highly anticipated, wide-release film? Could he even write an entire soundtrack, during an era when most artists hardly average an album every three years?
While a first listen proves that Gough’s songwriting smarts are so powerful and wide-ranging they work in any context (much less pop songs for movies), several listens are necessary for its real brilliance to shine through. In a similar fashion to the work of Harry Nilsson, his closest pop forebear, a Badly Drawn Boy song is deceptively simple; his pleasant melodies often cloak a set of sharp, thoughtful lyrics and many graceful harmonic turns. Gough’s voice, emotional with just a hint of gravel, sounds perfect behind the Hollywood sheen of these arrangements, with Tom Rothrock behind the boards.
The single “Silent Sigh” is the highlight, with Gough masterfully trip- ping over his lines and accentuating the title with his breathy delivery. It’s the cumulative weight, however, that really impresses. Each of these songs works well -- even the tossed-off electro-pop pieces “S.P.A.T.” and “File Me Away” -- in either the delightful context of the movie or as a stand-alone work.
Though both artist and label hedged bets by explaining it away as an outside work and not the “official” Badly Drawn Boy sophomore album, it’s difficult to imagine how Badly Drawn Boy could’ve improved on The Hour of Bewilderbeast any better than this astonishing work.

Earth - Primitive & Deadly - Bronze Vinyl 2xLP (Pre-Order)
Primitive And Deadly, is EARTH's tenth studio collection. Dylan Carlson and long term cohort, drummer Adrienne Davies, manage to pull off the trick of completing an Ouroborean creative cycle, twenty-five years in the making, whilst exploring new directions in their music. For the first time in their diverse second act, they allow themselves to be a rock band, freed of adornment and embellishment. As much as Carlson's guitar has always been the focal point of EARTH's music, it's been surrounded by consistently diverse instrumentation. Here the dialog between Carlson and Davies drumming remains pivotal, underpinned by the sympathetic bass of Bill Herzog (Sunn O))), Joel RL Phelps, Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter) and thickened by additional layers of guitar from Brett Netson (Built To Spill, Caustic Resin) and Jodie Cox (Narrows). Perhaps the largest left turn on Primitive And Deadly, though, is prominence of guest vocalists Mark Lanegan and Rabia Shaheen Qazi (Rose Windows) who transform the traditionally free ranging meditations of EARTH into something approaching traditional pop structures.
On "Rooks Across the Gates," a song stylistically the closest to the folk inspired modality of Angels Of Darkness, Carlson stretches out into some of his most lyrical playing to date, creating an almost symbiotic relationship between his performance and the vocals of old friend Mark Lanegan. "From the Zodiacal Light," meanwhile, takes the late 60s San Franciscan/freaked-out jazz-rock transcendence of The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull and quickly re-appropriates that sound into a musky torch song for the witching hour.
This contradictive tension between a band pushing itself ever-forward whilst surveying their history is reflected in the albums twin recording locales. The foundation of the record was laid in the mystic desert high lands of Joshua Tree, California where EARTH recorded hour after hour of meditations on each tracks central theme at Rancho de la Luna. Upon returning to Seattle these were edited, arranged and expanded upon at Avast with the help of long-term collaborator Randall Dunn (who was previously at the helm for the Hex, The Bees Made Honey In The Lions Skull and Hibernaculum sessions).
Thick, dense and overdriven, melodically rich and enveloping, Primitive And Deadly is EARTH reaffirming their position as a singular point in the history of rock.

Founded by Louisville musician Ryan Patterson and including Kayhan Vaziri and Carter Wilson, power trio Coliseum have grown to become one of today's quintessential contemporary punk bands. Successfully melding progressive musicianship, hardcore fervor, and vital social awareness into one constantly evolving artistic vision.

While Coliseum officially joining the label’s roster is a new chapter for us, it feels like a homecoming.”

Los Angeles, CA – August 5, 2014 – Nearly forty years after being recorded, Saguaro Road Records and Knox Phillips are set to release The Knox Phillips Sessions: The Unreleased Recordings of Jerry Lee Lewis on September 23rd on both CD and 180 gram vinyl formats. Recorded in the late ’70s, at Phillips Recording in Memphis by Knox Phillips (son of esteemed producer and founder of Sun Records/Studios Sam Phillips), The Knox Phillips Sessions will be available on all digital and physical platforms including an 11-track (with a bonus song) vinyl record on September 23rd.
At the end of the ’70s, Jerry Lee Lewis left Mercury Records after a successful fifteen years that saw his career spectacularly reborn in country music. Even after amassing 35 country hits there, country music was just one part of Jerry Lee Lewis’ musical soul. Now and then, Mercury had allowed him to deviate from the genre, but never far… and never for long. And, it was time to for a musical walkabout.
Like his father, Knox Phillips intuitively understood how to produce Jerry Lee Lewis, allowing him free rein to plunder his subconscious for half-forgotten songs, and reimagine them in his imitable style —precisely what Jerry Lee had done with “Whole Lotta Shakin” twenty years earlier. Always after midnight, Knox would get a call from Jerry Lee, asking him — maybe telling him — to come open up the studio because he felt like recording. In those sessions, Jerry Lee crossed the breadth of American music from Stephen Foster to Jim Croce. After a nineteenth century gospel standard, “Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior,” Jerry Lee would drawl his way imperiously through pop classics like “Harbor Lights.” To those, he added old country hits like “Room Full of Roses.” Although he wrote none of the songs, he imprints himself forcefully upon them all, perhaps never more so than on the bitterly regretful “That Kind of Fool.”
In all, the sessions capture 10 songs from one of the true giants of American music at his best – an enduring talent playing the music that he wanted to record and making each song into an expression of himself. While The Knox Phillips Sessions has collected dust for the better part of four decades, it’s now time for this brilliant collection to be see the light of day. There have been plenty of Jerry Lee Lewis records, but none like this. The Knox Phillips Sessions will appeal to music fans who wish to hear songs from all across the breadth of American music transformed into a very personal artistic statement from a true interpretative genius.
