In 2003, Ozzy Osbournes long-standing tour manager, Bobby Thompson, was found dead in his Detroit hotel room. Thompson had been battling throat cancer.
In 2005, Bad Beat singer Patrick Sherry died after a stage dive went wrong during a gig at the Warehouse in Leeds, England. Sherry lept towards the crowd at the end of the bands set and tried to grab a lighting rig from the ceiling but missed and hit the floor.
History:
The Ventures’ instrumental “Walk Don’t Run” hit the charts in 1960.
A riot brook out during a Rolling Stones gig at The Empress Ballroom in Blackpool, Lancashire in 1964 after Keith Richards aims a kick at a yob who was spitting at the group. Two policemen and 30 fans were injured and the damage is estimated at over £4,000.
The Byrds were at #1 on the UK singles chart in 1965 with their version of the Bob Dylan song "Mr Tambourine Man." The first Bob Dylan song to reach #1.
The Beach Boys' "California Girls" was released in 1965.
The Elvis Presley movie "Double Trouble" premiered in 1967.
In 1967, all four Beatles and their manager Brian Epstein signed a petition printed in The Times newspaper calling for the legalisation of marijuana.
Also in 1967, the Beatles meet Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, whose lecture on Transcendental Meditation (TM) they had gone to hear at the Hilton Hotel in London. TM involved the silent repetition of a word or sound to produce a state of mind that reduces stress, calms the mind, and energizes both mind and body. The Maharishi invited The Beatles to travel with him to Bangor, in North Wales, to attend more lectures. They accepted his invitation.
Jefferson Airplane’s second album, the classic “Surrealistic Pillow” went gold in 1967. The record contains two Airplane classics “White Rabbit” and “Somebody To Love.” Both songs were originally recorded by singer Grace Slick’s previous band, The Great Society. Good idea to bring her on board.
In 1969, Paul McCartney recorded a demo of his new song "Come and Get It" at Abbey Road studios in London. McCartney gave the song to The Iveys, (soon to become known as Badfinger). The song was later used as the theme for the movie 'The Magic Christian.' The Beatles also recorded "Sun King/Mean Mr. Mustard" for their forthcoming Abbey Road album.
Paul Revere and the Raiders went to #1 on the US singles chart in 1971 with "Indian Reservation."
Hall & Oates' "She's Gone" was released in 1976.
Thin Lizzy’s classic, and biggest hit, "The Boys Are Back In Town," peaked at #12 in the US in 1976.

In 1976, Elton John scored his first UK number 1 single with "Don't Go Breaking My Heart," a duet with Kiki Dee. It was written by Elton John without Bernie Taupin under the pseudonym "Ann Orson" and "Carte Blanche" and was Elton's first UK #1 after 16 Top 40 hits. John had met Dee when she was working as a backing singer. John would later re-record the song with RuPaul for his 1993, Duets album.
In 1978, the Robert Stigwood film 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band', was released, featuring The Bee Gees and Peter Frampton.
Survivor started a six week run at #1 on the US singles chart in 1982 with "Eye Of The Tiger," taken from the film 'Rocky III'. Also #1 in the UK. Survivor won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance for the song.
The Ritchie Valens biographical movie "La Bamba" opened nationwide in 1987.
Pantera released "Cowboys From Hell" in 1990. It was their first major label release.
Also in 1990 - A wrongful death trial involving Judas Priest opened in Reno, NV. Parents had charged in a lawsuit that the band's "Stained Class" album contained subliminal messages that drove two teen-agers to attempt suicide. The judge cleared the group.
U2 started a two-week run at #1 on the US album chart in 1993 with 'Zooropa' the Irish bands fourth US #1.
UB40 started a seven week run at #1 on the US singles chart in 1993 with "Can't Help Falling In Love." Elvis Presley had the first hit with the song, in 1961, Corey Hart was next up with a top 30 hit in 1987, and Hall and Oates recorded the song for 1990’s, The Last Temptation of Elvis charity album. UB40 originally covered the song for the Honeymoon in Vegas soundtrack, but Bono’s version was chosen instead.
A three-night celebration of Frank Sinatra's 80th birthday began at Carnegie Hall in 1995.

In 2002, a garden centre was sued over claims it killed a collection of the late singer Freddie Mercury's prized koi fish. Mercury's former partner, Mary Austin who inherited the Japanese koi collection claimed 84 fish died when the electricity powering a temporary pond was accidentally turned off by a worker from Clifton Nurseries, of Maida Vale, West London. At the time of Mercury's death he had amassed one of the best collections of the fish in the UK. One koi can be worth £250,000.
Ex-Jane`s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro appeared on FOX`s "America`s Most Wanted" in 2004. He discussed how the show helped catch his mother's murderer. Caroline Navarro was shot in '83 and her killer was apprehended 13 years later on a tip from a viewer.
In 2007, Beyonce tripped down twelve stairs while performing "Ring the Alarm" on tour in Orlando, Florida. Video from the night of the concert captured her stepping on her trench coat and then tumbling head-first down twelve steps at the Amway Arena appeared within hours on YouTube.
In 2008, Rapper 50 Cent sued Taco Bell, claiming the fast food chain used his name and image without permission in an advertising campaign. New York court papers say the advertisement featured the star being encouraged to change his name to 79 Cent, 89 Cent or 99 Cent. The rapper was accusing the chain of ‘diluting the value of his good name.' The advertisement is part of Taco Bell's ‘Why Pay More?’ campaign, which promoted items for under a dollar.
In 2009, Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan fronts a one-off outfit called Spirit In The Sky at a Los Angeles remembrance of the late Sky Saxon, lead singer for the 60’s Garage Rock band the Seeds ("Pushin’ Too Hard"). It’s Corgan’s first public performance with Pumpkins drummer Mike Bryne - who replaced Jimmy Chamberlin.

Former MEGADETH guitarist Marty Friedman will release his tenth solo album, "Bad D.N.A.", in Japan on August 25 via Avex. The CD was produced by Marty and engineered by Steve Hardy and Shinnosuke Miyazawa (LADY GAGA, GUNS N' ROSES) this April/May at The Village in Los Angeles, California.
According to a posting on Friedman's web site, "Bad D.N.A." is "a natural progression, picking up where 'Loudspeaker' and 'Tokyo Jukebox' left off and adding its own twists and turns."
The first Japanese pressing will include the first music video for the title track, "Bad D.N.A.", directed by Visual Trap, which has directed all of the videos for DIR EN GREY.

With the rhythm section of McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones and Sonny Rollins’ bassist of choice Bob Cranshaw behind him, the long underappreciated Grant Green’s take on Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “My Favorite Things” superficially sounds like a transcript lifted from Coltrane’s 1961 Atlantic album of the same name from a few years earlier.
It’s even taken in the same 6/8 time. But listen more carefully and behind the similarities comes guitarist Grant Green’s very different take on the tune’s melodic thrust. Tyner follows Grant’s lead and the result is an adrenaline rush of precisely struck, ultra-clarified notes.
Unlike Coltrane, who takes off into uncharted territory before returning to the tune (that was the first jazz album I ever bought as a kid and that long solo always made me feel like I was walking a tightrope until the group got back to the melody), Green manages an elegant solo that doesn’t wander too far both melodically and rhythmically while sustaining and building the song’s joyful emotional backdrop.
You can listen to Elvin and McCoy alone and get sufficient pleasure from this album. Both adapt different, you could say more sunny personas to accompany Green compared to how they sound with Coltrane. If you love Wes and don’t know Mr. Green, this record will knock you down from Green’s first solo on the title tune, which he penned. There are but four extended tunes on this 1964 recording that strangely stayed in the can until a 1979 Japanese release. An American CD first appeared in 1990.
The sound here, remixed from the original Van Gelder recording is remarkably good and sounds more modern in the best sense of that word than some other albums of the time. It sounds nothing like a “typical” Blue Note, being drier, more detailed and punchier than usual. Being able to hear Green pick notes from an intimate perspective adds to the pleasure. The piano and drums too are very well recorded. An easy album to recommend.

A new generation of fans are giving records a spin

If the refrain that the Internet has killed the music industry sounds like a broken record, consider this: A whole generation has never even heard a record spinning unless a disc jockey's involved.
Yet, the same Internet that slashed so much of the music industry is enabling some local entrepreneurs to continue to profit from a product that might seem counterintuitive: vinyl.
It's not just boomers nostalgic for their youth, either. College kids, collectors, and yes, even those boomers looking for a vintage "Frampton Comes Alive," album are fueling a resurgent interest in LPs.
John Bastone, 49, who ran the Record Room on North Avenue in New Rochelle in the late '80s, and Exile on Main Street in Mount Kisco in the mid-'90s, is one of them.
Within three years of opening the latter store, a Sam Goody branch opened around the corner, and Borders opened directly across the street. Bastone closed the store's doors in about 2004.
However, he and his wife, Margaret, continue to sell CDs and vinyl from their White Plains home. Via their website, recordriots.com, and eBay, Amazon.com and regional record conventions — including one held in May at the New Rochelle Radisson — Exile CDs makes most of its revenue through digital music, but vinyl has helped keep the business afloat.
"It's still a portion of the market," he says. "Even though it's 10 times as popular as it was ... a year ago, it's still a fraction of what it was back in its heyday."
Tony Pradlik can relate. A fellow White Plains resident, Pradlik worked at several record stores — two in Yonkers and another in New York City — before shutting down Rockin' Rex in the '90s. In recent years, he's returned to selling music, but now he's doing it from his house, and on the Internet (www.the-rockin-rex.com), in lieu of a traditional storefront.
The venue has changed, but love for big, round records has not, he says.
"There's always been interest (in vinyl)," Pradlik says. "It's never died."
DJs and hard-core collectors comprise a niche demographic that has sustained the vinyl business for Bastone since the digital revolution. When he visits Purchase College, which he's done eight to 12 times per year for 18 years, students also pay for their penchant for vinyl records — or at least the large album covers that contain them.
"Vinyl outsells CDs when I'm there," he says. "College kids are driving the resurgence of vinyl. I have a theory that kids who live on college campuses (think) 'Why would I spend $5 to $10 on a poster when I can go to a flea market or a yard sale or a street fair and find records for a dollar and just hang up the cover?' ...
For them, it wasn't retro. For them, it was something totally brand new."
There's also value in purchasing common vintage vinyl records.
"You can find a lot of $1, $2 and $3 records, and buy a lot more music for a much cheaper price," Bastone adds.
There's also consumer interest in rarities. Pradlik says some vinyl records never made the leap to digital formats due to legal disputes over music rights, musicians dying off, and other reasons.
For both record dealers, the steadiest and most popular vinyl sales are those featuring classic rock acts, including the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, iconic jazz artists, such as Miles Davis and John Coltrane, and soul legends.
"A lot of the DJs and new bands who use old soul records are looking for beats and samples," Bastone says.
Punk records from the '70s and '80s also generate interest among Pradlik's clients.
"That kind of stuff is through the roof now," he says.
The trend has prompted record labels to issue and reissue albums on vinyl, allowing for additional interest and sales.
Bastone has hopes for bringing a record convention to the Westchester County Center, provided the cost isn't prohibitive. He believes the vinyl trend is best buoyed by the experience of listening to a record when the needle hits the groove.

Yet, the same Internet that slashed so much of the music industry is enabling some local entrepreneurs to continue to profit from a product that might seem counterintuitive: vinyl.
It's not just boomers nostalgic for their youth, either. College kids, collectors, and yes, even those boomers looking for a vintage "Frampton Comes Alive," album are fueling a resurgent interest in LPs.
John Bastone, 49, who ran the Record Room on North Avenue in New Rochelle in the late '80s, and Exile on Main Street in Mount Kisco in the mid-'90s, is one of them.
Within three years of opening the latter store, a Sam Goody branch opened around the corner, and Borders opened directly across the street. Bastone closed the store's doors in about 2004.
However, he and his wife, Margaret, continue to sell CDs and vinyl from their White Plains home. Via their website, recordriots.com, and eBay, Amazon.com and regional record conventions — including one held in May at the New Rochelle Radisson — Exile CDs makes most of its revenue through digital music, but vinyl has helped keep the business afloat.
"It's still a portion of the market," he says. "Even though it's 10 times as popular as it was ... a year ago, it's still a fraction of what it was back in its heyday."
Tony Pradlik can relate. A fellow White Plains resident, Pradlik worked at several record stores — two in Yonkers and another in New York City — before shutting down Rockin' Rex in the '90s. In recent years, he's returned to selling music, but now he's doing it from his house, and on the Internet (www.the-rockin-rex.com), in lieu of a traditional storefront.
The venue has changed, but love for big, round records has not, he says.
"There's always been interest (in vinyl)," Pradlik says. "It's never died."
DJs and hard-core collectors comprise a niche demographic that has sustained the vinyl business for Bastone since the digital revolution. When he visits Purchase College, which he's done eight to 12 times per year for 18 years, students also pay for their penchant for vinyl records — or at least the large album covers that contain them.
"Vinyl outsells CDs when I'm there," he says. "College kids are driving the resurgence of vinyl. I have a theory that kids who live on college campuses (think) 'Why would I spend $5 to $10 on a poster when I can go to a flea market or a yard sale or a street fair and find records for a dollar and just hang up the cover?' ...
For them, it wasn't retro. For them, it was something totally brand new."
There's also value in purchasing common vintage vinyl records.
"You can find a lot of $1, $2 and $3 records, and buy a lot more music for a much cheaper price," Bastone adds.
There's also consumer interest in rarities. Pradlik says some vinyl records never made the leap to digital formats due to legal disputes over music rights, musicians dying off, and other reasons.
For both record dealers, the steadiest and most popular vinyl sales are those featuring classic rock acts, including the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, iconic jazz artists, such as Miles Davis and John Coltrane, and soul legends.
"A lot of the DJs and new bands who use old soul records are looking for beats and samples," Bastone says.
Punk records from the '70s and '80s also generate interest among Pradlik's clients.
"That kind of stuff is through the roof now," he says.
The trend has prompted record labels to issue and reissue albums on vinyl, allowing for additional interest and sales.
Bastone has hopes for bringing a record convention to the Westchester County Center, provided the cost isn't prohibitive. He believes the vinyl trend is best buoyed by the experience of listening to a record when the needle hits the groove.

ELVENKING: New Album Title, Artwork, Track Listing Revealed
Italian folk/power metallers ELVENKING have set "Red Silent Tides" as the title of their new album, which is tentatively due this fall via AFM Records. The CD was recorded at Piranha studios in Karsdolf, Germany with producer Dennis Ward (ANGRA, PINK CREAM 69, PRIMAL FEAR). The album's cover artwork was created by Samuel Araya, who has previously worked on CRADLE OF FILTH's "Thornography" CD.
ELVENKING's last "electric" album, "The Scythe", was released in Europe in September 2007 via AFM Records.

Rush sued by angry fan
Iconic progressive rockers Rush have found themselves on the receiving end of a lawsuit after a disgruntled fan sued the band for cancelling a recent performance. The class action was filed by Rush fan, Christopher Langone who took umbrage with the group’s cancellation of their Chicago show due to bad weather on July 7th.
As Noise Creep reports:
“When Rush cancelled the show due poor weather, it apparently sent Langone into a tizzy and to a lawyer. He is seeking reimbursement for ticket, airfare and other expenses he incurred while making the trek across several states to see the Canadian prog warriors.
Langone is actually going as far as to claim 'breach of contract,' since the ticket and promotional materials stated the show was a 'rain or shine' event.”

Todd Rundgren Plots New Album
(Gibson) Todd Rundgren has inked a record contract with California-based Gigatone Entertainment, which will release his new, 15-track album.
In a statement out Tuesday, Gigatone said Rundgren would approach the recording of his new LP with the same innovative spirit that's informed prior hit albums. The '70s icon – who made his name both behind the microphone (with pop songs like "Hello, It's Me") and the mixing console (producing Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell) – will take part in Gigatone's myRecordFantasy program, which allows fans to executive produce their favorite artist's new album during a three-day camp.
Gigatone is also home to Eddie Money and The Monkees' Micky Dolenz, who also will participate in a myRecordFantasy recording session this August.

Frontier Records Celebrates 30th Anniversary As Southern California's Premier Independent Label
LOS ANGELES, CA. (Top40 Charts/ It's Alive! Media & Management) - Frontier Records (http://www.frontierrecords.com/ ), the independent Los Angeles-based record label founded in 1980, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year with their 100th release, YES L.A., scheduled for later this year. Owned and operated by Lisa Fancher, Frontier is instrumental in releasing classic punk, alternative country, paisley underground, goth and pop records that are considered classic 'must-haves' to critics and serious music collectors alike.
Among the first to tap into the Los Angeles punk scene, Frontier Records' initial success was releasing the classic Circle Jerks record Group Sex.
This was later followed by Orange County's Adolescents' debut known as the Blue Album TSOL's Dance with Me and Christian Death's Only Theatre of Pain. However, it was the eponymous debut LP from Suicidal Tendencies that spawned the unexpected MTV smash 'Institutionalized' that put Frontier on the map. If you caught the Don Johnson vehicle Miami Vice episode featuring Suicidal, you'd know the mainstream finally caught up with the underground.
In light of these early successes in punk rock, it is easy to overlook the fact that Frontier has also released well-known records from bands from a variety of genres: The Long Ryders, Thin White Rope, The Three O'Clock, Young Fresh Fellows, American Music Club and Heatmiser, Elliott Smith's first band. All of these groups and more released full-length-albums on Frontier Records that were as important to the labels evolution as any punk rock angst the label is best known for.
Perhaps most importantly, a woman starting her own independent record label in an overwhelmingly male dominated music industry in 1980 was key in shattering the notion that 'chicks can't rock'. Simply put, women didn't start their own record labels then, especially in the testosterone-drenched L.A. punk rock scene. For founder Lisa Fancher to have survived as an indie label for thirty solid years on, having seen her fair share of record distributors go belly up and put her label in financial jeopardy, makes its survival almost as impressive as its inception.
'When I founded Frontier Records in 1980, I had no idea what running a record label entailed, I just wanted to turn other people onto the local bands I loved,' said Frontier Records founder Lisa Fancher. 'It's pretty cool to have outlasted so many independent – and major – labels thirty years later but what really still makes me want to continue is to continue to release great music that still needs to be heard. Especially now!'
Having begun her music career as a teenage clerk at the Bomp Records store on Magnolia Blvd in North Hollywood— concurrently fan club president for L.A.'s The Dickies and publisher of Biff!Bang!Pow! fanzine— Lisa learned the ropes on how to jumpstart an indie label from the best possible mentors a person could have, Greg and Suzy Shaw at Bomp Records. While her first success came from releasing soon-to-be classic punk titles by new bands, Fancher gradually delved into the world of reissuing out-of-print catalog as well, including Born Innocent from Redd Kross, two legendary slabs of punk vinyl from The Weirdos: Weird World Vol. 1 & 2,Dangerhouse Vols 1 & 2 featuring crucial 45s by X, The Avengers, Weirdos, Black Randy, et al.), the Adolescents' Complete Demos 1980 – 1996 and The Middle Class' compilation Out of Vogue.
In late 2010, Frontier will re-release the digitally remastered Christian Death classic Only Theater of Pain with Rozz Williams' original artwork as well as Dangerhouse's Yes L.A. compilation and other nuggets soon to be announced. Additionally, Frontier has always been a vinyl-oriented label, which considers the limited edition colored vinyl LP their calling card – so expect more colored wax reissues in the coming months.
A 30th anniversary event honoring Frontier Records is in the works and will be announced shortly.

Having begun her music career as a teenage clerk at the Bomp Records store on Magnolia Blvd in North Hollywood— concurrently fan club president for L.A.'s The Dickies and publisher of Biff!Bang!Pow! fanzine— Lisa learned the ropes on how to jumpstart an indie label from the best possible mentors a person could have, Greg and Suzy Shaw at Bomp Records. While her first success came from releasing soon-to-be classic punk titles by new bands, Fancher gradually delved into the world of reissuing out-of-print catalog as well, including Born Innocent from Redd Kross, two legendary slabs of punk vinyl from The Weirdos: Weird World Vol. 1 & 2,Dangerhouse Vols 1 & 2 featuring crucial 45s by X, The Avengers, Weirdos, Black Randy, et al.), the Adolescents' Complete Demos 1980 – 1996 and The Middle Class' compilation Out of Vogue.
In late 2010, Frontier will re-release the digitally remastered Christian Death classic Only Theater of Pain with Rozz Williams' original artwork as well as Dangerhouse's Yes L.A. compilation and other nuggets soon to be announced. Additionally, Frontier has always been a vinyl-oriented label, which considers the limited edition colored vinyl LP their calling card – so expect more colored wax reissues in the coming months.
A 30th anniversary event honoring Frontier Records is in the works and will be announced shortly.

In 2005, research by a car insurance company showed that listening to the wrong sort of music when driving can lead to aggression and distraction. Dr Nicola Dibben a music psychologist said “singing while driving stimulates the mind.” Songs recommended included Pulp’s "Disco 2000" and "Hey Ya" by Outcast, but the Dr said songs like The Prodigy’s "Firestarter" should be avoided.
Kinks frontman Ray Davies played Austin in 2006. The concert was taped for an episode of PBS' Austin City Limits.

The soundtrack to Led Zeppelin’s ‘76 concert film, 'The Song Remains The Same,' was released in a vinyl box set featuring audiophile-quality in 2008. The package includes updated sleeve notes and six extra tracks.
And lastly, there's another soundtrack in 2008. This one is from the Neil Young-directed Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young tour documentary, CSNY: Déjà Vu. "It's got rough spots all the way through it, which I think is refreshing," says Young. Acting as the project’s promo guy Young claims that it’s the "best album the quartet has ever made."

DEAR JERRY: I find it interesting how often someone picks a hit vocal and releases it as an instrumental. Occasionally, both versions become popular.
Less often does a hit instrumental also become a big seller when words are added, or so it seems.
Did a Rock Era vocal and instrumental version of the same song ever appear together in the Top 10? Perhaps “Picnic” or “Only You”?

DEAR MARVIN: Neither of the tunes you mention qualify, though “Picnic” comes close.
The instrumental, titled “Moonglow and Theme from Picnic,” by both Morris Stoloff and George Cates, reached the Top 10. The “Picnic” vocal by the McGuire Sisters did not, stalling at No. 13.
There are three Top 10 vocals of “Only You” (Platters; Hilltoppers; Ringo Starr), and one instrumental (Franck Pourcel's French Fiddles). However, Pourcel's 1959 hit came 15 years before Ringo's and four years after the other two.
Yes, it's a rare combination, but not unheard of. One example that does meet your criteria is “Unchained Melody.”
The instrumental (Les Baxter, His Chorus and Orchestra), along with two vocals (Al Hibbler and Roy Hamilton), all held spots in the Top 10 in May of 1955.
Staying with the same topic, but with a somewhat shady slant, read on:
DEAR JERRY: I have an old cassette tape recording of miscellaneous oldies, one of which is a vocal version of “Raunchy.” No one I've known ever heard “Raunchy” with lyrics. Have you?
According to handwritten notes on the tape box, the singer is Will Shade. Never heard of him. Was this out at the same time as the big hit instrumental?

DEAR JIM: Yes to both, but just answering your two questions does not begin to cover this story. “Raunchy” written and first issued by Bill Justis, was immediately covered by Ernie Freeman, whose version sold nearly as well. Both came out in November 1957.
Then, in late December, “Raunchy” became the first rock and roll instrumental to reach No. 1 nationally.
That same month, “The New Raunchy” came along (Decca 30539) with teen-oriented lyrics (by Red Sovine and Cindy Walker) sung to the familiar “Raunchy” music: “Come on baby do the Raunchy song; come on with me and do the Raunchy song; we'll rock it and we'll stomp it baby, all night long; baby don't you know it's my favorite song;” etc.
The singer is none other than country superstar Webb Pierce. Probably to distance himself from such a daringly different style — pure rock and roll and not the least bit country — the pseudonym Shady Wall is used.
As for the similar sounding Will Shade, he is an old-time Memphis blues singer whose only known record is “She Stabbed Me with an Ice-Pick” backed with “Better Leave That Stuff Alone” (Victor 21725). This 1928 single is now a hefty $1,000 to $2,000 item.
The “stuff” warning from Shade regards drinking “canned heat,” the highly addictive methanol in Sterno cooking fuel: “Canned heat is just like morphine, it crawls all through your bones; I gave my woman a dollar to get herself something to eat; she spent a dime for an egg roll and 90-cents for that ol' canned heat;” etc.
Yes, this is the concoction that inspired the '60s group named Canned Heat to pick that name.
IZ ZAT SO? Be it intentional or coincidental, Webb Pierce's choice of Shady Wall as a nom de guerre for “The New Raunchy” might have amused Rep. Shady R. Wall (D-Louisiana).
When the record came out, the real Shady Wall had just completed his first two terms as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives (1948-1956).

Jimmy Eat World: New Album in September
On September 28, Jimmy Eat World fans will have something all-new to listen to: Invented, the Arizona pop-punk vets' seventh full-length record and follow-up to 2007's Chase the Light.
The news was unveiled in a brief post to the band's website Monday: "[We're] back with producer Mark Trombino (Clarity, Bleed American) -- we made noise and laid down the tunes in our Arizona studio. Touring plans coming your way soon!" The band also posted the new album's cover art.
"Invented" marks the band's first studio album since 2007's "Chase This Light" which landed Jimmy Eat World's highest chart position of their career at #5 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart. Jimmy Eat World's last release may have been three years ago but they've been busy. The boys took a break from the recording of "Invented" to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of their influential album, "Clarity" with a sold out national tour.
Jimmy Eat World's Fall tour plans are being finalized now.

Pink Floyd Bandmates to Reunite Again for Another Live Show
David Gilmour will join Roger Waters on stage for his 30th anniversary tour of “The Wall“. Waters posted the news on Facebook stating that Gilmour had offered to join him on stage for the shows.
Gilmour apparently emailed Waters and offered to play on one of his Wall shows, if Waters agreed to play a charity gig at the HOPING Foundation with Gilmour.
Waters said:
“How could I refuse such an offer. I couldn’t, there was no way. Generosity trumped fear. And so explaining that I would probably be shitting it but if he didn’t mind I didn’t – I agreed and the rest is history. We did it, and it was fucking great. End of story. Or possibly beginning.”
Which gig Gilmour will appear at is still to be decided and will not be announced officially as the Pink Floyd bandmates would like to keep it a surprise.
Many fans have called for Gilmour to appear at more than one show on the tour, but nothing official has been announced yet.

Pink Floyd Bandmates to Reunite Again for Another Live Show
David Gilmour will join Roger Waters on stage for his 30th anniversary tour of “The Wall“. Waters posted the news on Facebook stating that Gilmour had offered to join him on stage for the shows.
Gilmour apparently emailed Waters and offered to play on one of his Wall shows, if Waters agreed to play a charity gig at the HOPING Foundation with Gilmour.
Waters said:
“How could I refuse such an offer. I couldn’t, there was no way. Generosity trumped fear. And so explaining that I would probably be shitting it but if he didn’t mind I didn’t – I agreed and the rest is history. We did it, and it was fucking great. End of story. Or possibly beginning.”
Which gig Gilmour will appear at is still to be decided and will not be announced officially as the Pink Floyd bandmates would like to keep it a surprise.
Many fans have called for Gilmour to appear at more than one show on the tour, but nothing official has been announced yet.

New York, NY – LA-based band Standing Shadows is set to host a 7” Vinyl Release Party at the renowned Origami Vinyl Record Shop in Echo Park, CA. The party will celebrate the release of a special edition 7” vinyl, which will feature tracks from the band’s debut full-length album ‘FIVE YEARS OF DARKNESS’. The event will take place on July 23rd, amidst of a series of tour dates that the band will be playing this July and August throughout California. Most recently, Standing Shadows performed for packed audience at one of San Francisco’s premiere music venues, Rockit Room.
Standing Shadows first introduced music listeners to their signature “electro-obscura-shoegazer-rock” sound with the January release of their ‘High Rise’ EP as well the March unveiling of ‘FIVE YEARS OF DARKNESS’.
