Jim Cassero, child of the 1960s Bay Area rock and psychedelic music scene, musician, radio personality and owner of Cotati’s Amazing Records, is a full-blown romantic.

How else to explain his staking his livelihood on the appeal of used vinyl recordings?

“I do it for the love of it,” he agrees. “Retail is a slow build up, it takes time and the economy has taken away all the jing-jing-jingle in the pocket that goes for things like record purchases. I probably should have picked another way to earn a living.”

Oscar & The Majestics Reissue

Gary's Oscar & The Majestics were a premier garage rock group in the mid–1960s.

The Steel City quartet were"region" contemporaries of such acclaimed Chicago–bred bands as the Buckinghams, Cryan' Shames and Shadows Of Knight.

Oscar & The Majestics shared a record label with the Buckinghams when signed to the ground–breaking, Chicago–based USA Records, which landed both groups air play on top hit–making stations of the era, including WLS–AM.

At long last, the complete 1960s recordings of Oscar & The Majestics (most being recorded at Chicago's legendary Chess Studios and produced by band leader Oscar Hamod) have been gathered and reissued for the first time by the national archival label Sundazed Records.

The 14–song collection, "No Chance Baby," comes out Tuesday and is being released as a limited edition vinyl LP and as a four-panel gatefold CD, both beautifully packaged with vintage photos, concert poster art, news clippings, and a well–written history of the legendary region group.

PATHOLOGY: New Album Details Revealed 

San Diego-based brutal death metallers PATHOLOGY have completed work on their new album, "Awaken To The Suffering", for a September 13 release. The CD was recorded at Lambesis Studios (owned by AS I LAY DYING vocalist Tim Lambesis) in the band's hometown with producer Daniel Castleman (IMPENDING DOOM, AS I LAY DYING, WINDS OF PLAGUE). This will be PATHOPLOGY's first CD to feature the group's new lineup, including vocalist Jonathan Huber and second guitarist Kevin Schwartz, who have spent time on the road with their new bandmates during recent U.S. and European tours with DEICIDE and OBITUARY.

In 1956, while a song from his first recording session called "Blue Days, Black Nights" is receiving airplay in the UK, Buddy Holly heads back to a studio in Nashville to lay down additional tracks. He is currently appearing at live gigs billed as Buddy Holly and The Three Tunes.

In 1963, the Beatles' first US album, "Introducing The Beatles" was pressed by Vee-Jay Records, who thought they had obtained the legal rights from EMI affiliate, Trans-Global Records. When it was finally released in January, 1964, Capitol Records would hit Vee Jay with an injunction against manufacturing, distributing, advertising, or otherwise disposing of records by the Beatles. After a trial, Vee-Jay was allowed to release any Beatles records that they had masters of in any form until October 15th, 1964. After that time, they no longer had the right to issue any Beatles product.

In 1965, Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Bill Wyman appear in a London courtroom and are found guilty of "insulting behavior" for urinating against a London gas station wall. They argued that the owner had refused to give them the key to the men's room, but they are fined five pounds each.

In 1967, the Doors performed "Crystal Ship" and "Light My Fire" on American Bandstand.

Also in 1967, Vanilla Fudge made their concert debut in New York.

In 1971, thirteen days after lead singer Jim Morrison passed away, The Doors are awarded a Gold album for "L.A. Woman". The L.P. included "Lover Her Madly" and "Riders on the Storm".

In 1971, John Lennon and Yoko Ono spent the second day filming the “Imagine” promotional film at their home in Tittenhurst Park Ascot, England. Today's footage included the morning walk on the grounds though the mist and John Lennon singing “Imagine” in the white room on his white piano.



In 1977, Elvis Costello's first album, "My Aim Is True," was released in Britain. It was later released in the U.S

In 1994, more than 54,000 fans packed Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, as Billy Joel and Elton John performed the first of five concerts together.

In 1996, Scottish folk singer Donovan was forced to postpone a comeback tour of the US because of a 30-year-old marijuana conviction in Britain. American authorities delayed granting him a waiver to enter the country. The tour was designed to promote Donovan's first album of new material in a dozen years.

Also in 1996, the parents of a teen-age murder victim sued the band Slayer contending that the band's lyrics were "satanic" and inspired 3 teen-age boys to rape, torture and stab the girl to death.

In 1999, Gary "Gar" Samuelson, the drummer for Megadeth from 1984 through 1987, died of liver failure at the age of 41.

In 2005, Eugene Record, the lead singer of The Chi-lites, died of cancer at the age of 65. The group is most often remembered for the 1972 US #1 single "Oh Girl" and 1972 UK #3 single "Have You Seen Her".



In 2006, Johnny Cash was at #1 on the U.S. album chart with American V: A Hundred Highways. Released posthumously on July 4, the vocal parts were recorded before Cash’s death, but the instruments were not recorded until 2005.

Spin cycle: Resurgence of vinyl records means new business up their sleeve

The print shop at the Record Jacket Corp. is dim, loud and hot. A single fan pushes the humid air around, and concrete walls and corrugated metal ceiling do their best to trap it inside.

The Wade Ave. workshop near Bloor St. and Lansdowne Ave., all 2,000 square feet of it, looks like an industrial relic, but it just opened in the spring.

A Winkler und Dünnebier record sleeve fabricating machine, 31 feet long and 2 tonnes of steel, takes up a third of the space. Manually operated, it can cut, fold and glue up to 10,000 12-inch record jackets per hour. The machine was made in the 1970s and fell out of use, but just like vinyl sales, has been resuscitated.

Co-owners Paul Miller and Alex Durlak, both 30, and sole employee Jason Cousineau, have tattoos and facial hair. Giant Mac screens sit on the office desks. Close friends, Miller and Durlak bonded over a mutual love of art, music and record collecting.

In 2010, a chance to buy the machine arose, and they decided to combine talents and clients to tap into a vinyl production market that, in Canada, had all but disappeared.

The new venture is one of only two record jacket companies in the country.

Indie record labels expand their releases to meet demands

"It all started a few years back," said Jimmy Peoni. "I was on my way home from a show in Cincinnati, and we stopped in Shelbyville to use a restroom. This bathroom was foul, man, and there was a glory hole in the stall -- the worst I'd ever seen in my life. It looked like it'd been blown open by dynamite.

"I've been back -- that bathroom, that devil's playground, it no longer exists."

The glory hole may be gone, but Glory Hole lives on. Named for that Shelbyville bathroom and dreamed up one night behind Radio Radio, Glory Hole Records is Peoni's one-man label that has released 7-inch records from local acts like Vacation Club and The Kemps, and has been gaining fans and recognition.

Rare Never Seen Before Beatles' Photos Sell For Big Bucks!

Never-before seen photographs of the Beatles' first US concert in Washington DC have been sold in New York for more than 360,000 dollars

The Fab Four played their first US concert on February 11 1964, at the Washington Coliseum, two days after their debut on The Ed Sullivan Show.

Mike Mitchell, of Washington, was 18 at the time and took photographs just feet away. Fifty silver gelatin prints he made from negatives were sold individually at Christie's auction house.

In 1967, The Jimi Hendrix Experience played the first of three nights at the Cafe-a-Go-Go in New York City.

DEAR JERRY: Rather than watch TV reruns, the wife and I decided to pull out a stack of our old 45s and do some reminiscing.

As we played “Ahab, the Arab” (Ray Stevens) she asked me two questions, neither of which I know. Help!

What or who is by Ahab's side in the verse: “He wore a big old turban wrapped around his head, and (??) by his side.”

We listened to it carefully, but still don't know. It could be a ceminol, semintol, or something else. Do you know?

Then we hear about Fatima, a hottie in the sultan's harem, lounging in her tent eating a bowl of what sounds like sugar nails. What is it really?

Also, I recall long ago hearing a longer version of “Ahab, the Arab” on the radio, with considerably more to the story. Missing from the 45 is when the sultan discovers Ahab with Fatima together.

Where does one find the complete song?

DEAR LINDY & JOANNE: Reruns probably would have created fewer mysteries, but here goes:

Ahab never left home without his scimitar, which is the curved sword seen in countless Arabian-themed films and photos. Scimitars are even depicted on the Royal Flag, as well as the National Emblem, of Saudi Arabia.

Sugar nails sounds like a sweet yet dangerous breakfast cereal, but what Fatima is eating is probably not what you'd want with your morning coffee.

She is munching on “a bowl of chitterlings,” which are referred to in some cultures as chitlins. Usually chitterlings are made from the small intestine of a hog; however, in areas where pork is not eaten — including Fatima's homeland — the source of chitterlings is usually lamb.

The single of “Ahab, the Arab” (Mercury 71966) runs 2:47, and that is without the most compelling chapter. That would have added another minute to the story.

To summarize the action in this segment:

The sultan catches Ahab and Fatima together and isn't happy. The fire in his eyes says Ahab and Fatima are about to be scimitar shish kabob.

Using evasive maneuvers, Ahab and Fatima escaped the tent and jumped on Clyde, Ahab's swift and beloved camel.

Off they zoomed across the desert, with the sultan and his army in hot pursuit.

Turns out Clyde was much too fast for ordinary camels, and they left those who would harm them in their dust, er, sand.

Predictably, Ahab and Fatima lived happily ever after.

“El Paso” (4:37) notwithstanding, getting dee jays to play a 3:45 record would have been quite a challenge in 1962, but every Top 40 station in the country jumped on the edited version. Come August, Ray, Ahab, Fatima, and Clyde found themselves at No. 2 nationally, denied the No. 1 spot by Bobby Vinton's “Roses Are Red (My Love).”

Album buyers, be they LPs or CDs, should already have the complete recording of “Ahab, the Arab.”

Someone asked if, in today's politically correct world (gag!), radio stations would play “Ahab, the Arab,” were it just released for the first time.

For input on anything involving radio programming, I know of no one more qualified than John Rook (johnrook.com). He is one of America's most honored and respected people at that craft, and co-founder of the Hit Parade Hall of Fame.

John puts it this way:

“Successful programming is giving listeners what they want. If in doing so you play something that your competitors are afraid to play, then even better! Whether I like it or not, my goal has always been to look for music that excites people — without limitations imposed by content (within reason) or genre. Some of our biggest hits have also been the most controversial. Yeah, I would definitely play “Ahab, the Arab.”

Ray Stevens is widely regarded as one of the most musically talented people ever. He is one of very few who can and does do everything and do it well.

He writes most of his songs, which cover nearly every genre. He also arranges and produces sessions for himself and other artists.

Primarily a keyboardist, a classically-trained one at that, Ray plays many other instruments when the song requires it. Ray's keyboard artistry is heard on numerous hit records by other artists. He can even use his voice to sound like an instrument.

Finally, on some of his tracks that appear to have traditional vocal group backing, it is really Stevens by himself doing all of the supporting vocals!

While a good way to reduce session expenses, not many performers can do it. Well, there is this one guy.


IZ ZAT SO? As an homage to “Ahab, the Arab,” Ray's third highest ranked single — “Everything Is Beautiful” and “The Streak” both reached No. 1 — he founded a production company called Ahab, and named his own label Clyde Records.

Alex Steinweiss Creator Of Album Covers, Dies at 94


Alex Steinweiss, an art director and graphic designer who brought custom artwork to record album covers and invented the first packaging for long-playing records, died last Sunday in Sarasota, Fla. He was 94.

In 1939, Alex Steinweiss was the first art director for Columbia Records, where he introduced a wider application of album covers and cover art. He pitched an idea: Why not replace the standard plain brown wrapper with an eye-catching illustration? The company took a chance, and within months its record sales increased by over 800 per cent. His covers for Columbia combining bold typography with modern, elegant illustrations ”took the industry by storm" and revolutionized the way records were sold.

Over three decades, Steinweiss made thousands of original artworks for classical, jazz, and popular record covers for Columbia, Decca, London, and Everest; as well as logos, labels, advertising material, even his own typeface, the Steinweiss Scrawl. He launched the golden age of album cover design and influenced generations of designers to follow

Steinweiss was active in record cover design from 1939 until 1973, when he semi-retired to devote himself to painting. By his own admission, he has designed roughly 2500 covers.

Spotify: The New Way to Enjoy Vinyl (Or the Closest Thing to It)

As many people can attest to, specially if you are a Generation X’er, I used to buy vinyl records when I was a teenager. Yes, they were fragile, could get scratched easily and if you played them too many times, they would become unusable.

But for me, vinyls represent the long form of an artist’s vision. You would listen to each side in its entirety, just like reading a novel, each song had a place in the story, like a chapter. I would specially like to hear my albums late at night, when everyone was asleep, using a pair of huge leather headphones my dad used to own. I would close my eyes and really listen to the music.

After years of licensing battles, Spotify, a music service that comes from London and has been available there for a long time, finally launched this week in the U.S. After struggling a bit for an invitation, I was finally let in. And all I can say is that I was like a child again, seeing all my vinyl records in front of me, but this time in digital format.

The gramophone record makes a comeback in Malayalam with ‘Timeless Melodies Yesudas' that has eight recent film songs by the singer

Just when the gramophone record seemed to have lost its battle against time and innovations like the audiocassette and compact discs it has made a welcome comeback. There is a romance in the gramophone, something you still cannot associate with the new gadgets.

Satyam Audios has marked the return of the gramophone record in Malayalam with a Long Play (LP) record titled ‘Timeless Melodies Yesudas' that incorporates eight recent film songs by the singer.

History

The first ever `native' recording in India, done professionally by the engineers of the Gramophone Company, England, one of the two major companies in this field during the acoustic era, was in 1902. Two little ‘dancing girls', Soshi Mukhi and Fani Bala, who were associated with the Classic Theatre, were the first Indians to have their voices recorded. Gauhar Jan, an artiste of repute, called the Gramophone Girl and in some of the later records described as the Dancing Girl of Calcutta is considered the first singer to be recorded.

Man Addicted to Heavy Metal

Swedish government to provide income support to help compulsive rock fan go to concerts

In a pretty extraordinary story, The Local reports that 42 year old Roger Tullgren has been medically diagnosed with a non-substance compulsive disorder that means his addiction to heavy metal often impacts on his social and working life.

Three psychologists have now diagnosed the condition, which means that Tullgren is entitled to state benefits - including income support - so that he can attend concerts and indulge other parts of the addiction.

Billboard's first Music Popularity Chart was published in 1940. The magazine had previously printed best-seller lists submitted by the individual record companies, but the new chart combined the top sellers from all major labels. Their first number one song was "I'll Never Smile Again" by Frank Sinatra and the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.

In 1946, 13 year old Petula Clark made her first appearance on British TV on a BBC variety show called Cabaret Cartoons, which would lead to her being signed to host her own afternoon series titled simply Petula Clark.

In 1954, Elvis Presley performed on one what was probably the smallest stage of his career when he appeared on the back of a flatbed truck outside a Memphis drugstore for its grand opening. Elvis was then a member of The Blue Moon Boys trio with Bill Black and Scotty Moore, who took their name from a song they had recorded just two weeks previously, "Blue Moon of Kentucky".

In 1963, Jan and Dean's "Surf City" tops Billboard's singles chart just two weeks after its release. The pair had recorded the song in a converted garage underneath their apartment in Bel Air, California.

Also in 1963, Lesley Gore released "Judy's Turn To Cry", the follow up to her number one hit, "It's My Party". The record was a continuation of the original story and it too became a Top 5 hit in the US.

The Lovin' Spoonful released their first record, "Do You Believe in Magic" in 1965. It will reach #9 on the US Pop chart.

Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" was released by Columbia Records in 1965. It turns out to be his biggest hit ever, climbing to number two in the US and number four in the UK.

In 1968, Iron Butterfly's classic album, "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" entered Billboard's Hot 200 chart at #117. It was the band's second LP and contained the 17 minute title track that filled the entire second side of the disc. A shortened, single version of the song only made it to number 30, but the album climbed to number 4 and went on to sell over four million copies in the US alone. A remastered edition was released by Rhino Records in 1995 that contains the single version as well as a live version of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida".



In 1969, Roy Hamilton, whose version of "Unchained Melody" was the best-selling R&B record of 1955, died of a heart attack at the age of 40. He also scored hits with "Don't Let Go" in 1958 and "You Can Have Her" in 1961.

In 1975, Bruce Springsteen & the E-Street Band opened their Born to Run tour in Providence, RI. It was Steve Van Zandt's first live performance with the band.

In 1976, the Buzzcocks made their live debut in Manchester, England.

In 1978, Steve Martin's novelty tune "King Tut" became a Top Ten hit in the US. Some of the musicians on the track were members of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

In 1986, Santana celebrates their 20th anniversary at a concert in San Francisco that features a jam with all previous members of the band.

In 1991, EMF went to #1 on the U.S. singles chart with “Unbelievable” it spent 14 weeks on the chart before reaching the top.

In 2000, the Evergreen Ballroom in Lacey, Washington was destroyed by a fire. During the ballroom's heyday in the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s, many of music's greats played there: Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Duke Ellington, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Ike & Tina Turner and Fats Domino. Glen Campbell had lived in the kitchen at the venue for a while before he became famous.

In 2009, Jackson Browne settled his lawsuit against US Senator John McCain and the Republican Party after his 1977 hit "Running On Empty" was used without permission in a 2008 McCain presidential campaign ad that aired on TV and the Internet. McCain and the Republican Party apologized for using the song in the ad and said that McCain himself "had no knowledge of, or involvement in, the creation or distribution of the video."

The first four Ramones albums "Ramones" (1976), "Leave Home," "Rocket to Russia" (both 1977) and "Road to Ruin" (1978) arrive in stores today pressed from the original master tapes on 180-gram vinyl, each retailing for $17.98.

This might seem a small thing and in some ways, it is. This music is not new.

But it is unimpeachable. Four of the best rock records of the 1970s, sounding as good as they possibly can in 2011, on the medium for which they were recorded.

For record collectors, aka crate diggers, rare is in the eye of the beholder. Local vinyl vendors know when out-of-town customers make a stop in Cincinnati, they are looking for very personal definitions of buried treasure.

According to Mike Markiewicz, who owns Another Part of the Forest in Over-the-Rhine, collectors from Russia heard about his store through the Internet equivalent of word-of-mouth. They bought a bulk of 70s pop-rock albums from artists like The Eagles, LPs you could probably score at any CD Game Exchange in the dollar bin.

"This place isn't really a record store," Markiewicz says. "I consider it more like a museum of natural history. You never know what people will come in looking for, which is why I carry a little bit of everything."

Glee: The 3D Concert Movie" Soundtrack Coming Soon

"Glee" has already charted with a dozen albums and EPs, and now they're set to release their very first live album: the companion soundtrack to their upcoming "Glee" 3D concert film.

"Glee: The 3D Concert Movie" soundtrack features the cast performing some fan favorites and some of their own biggest hits, including the original song "Loser Like Me," their cover of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'," and their version of Lady Gaga's "Born This Way."

The Dalton Academy Warblers also appear here, offering up their hit versions of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream," Pink's "Raise Your Glass," and Paul McCartney's "Silly Love Songs."

Covers of tracks by Britney Spears, the Beatles, Katy Perry, Michael Jackson, Cee Lo Green, and Barbra Streisand are also included. A version of Florence + The Machine's "Dog Days Are Over" is included as a bonus track, for some reason.

The soundtrack hits stores on Aug. 9, while fans can catch "Glee: The 3D Concert Movie" in theaters beginning Aug. 12 for a limited two-week engagement.

Glee premieres its third season on Fox on Sept. 20.

In 1954, Sun Records released the first Elvis Presley single, "That's All Right", a cover of Arthur Crudup's 1946 tune "That's All Right, Mama". Only about 7,000 original copies were pressed, but the disc became a local hit in Memphis. After the session, Bill Black was said to have remarked, "Damn. In 2001, soul and gospel singer Judy Clay died. Was a member of the Drinkard Singers - who later became better known as The Sweet Inspirations , also worked with Billy Vera, and had hits with William Bell (Private Number), and sang with Wilson Pickett and Ray Charles.

In 2005, James Blunt was at #1 on the U.K. singles chart with “You're Beautiful,” from his debut album BacktTo Bedlam. The UK singer songwriters first #1, spent 5 weeks at the top of the charts.

In 2007, US sales figures were released that showed CD sales falling a further 11.7% since last year. In contrast, vinyl record collectors pushed the demand for 78 RPM platters up by 12.9%.

In 2010, Ozzy Osbourne and his former Black Sabbath band mate Tony Iommi settled a long-running legal dispute over the use of the group's name. Ozzy had filed suit against the guitarist in May of last year, accusing Iommi of falsely proclaiming to be the sole owner of the Black Sabbath name by lodging an application with the US Patent and Trademark Office. The pair released a joint statement confirming they have settled the dispute "amicably".

Born on this day in 1931, Thomas Allen. (Papa Dee), percussionist, War. Died from a heart attack while performing on stage on 30th August 1988.



Born on this day in 1952, Allen Collins, guitar, Lynyrd Skynyrd, (1974 US No. 8 single, 'Sweet Home Alabama', 1982 UK No.21 single 'Freebird'). Collins was behind the wheel in a car accident in 1986 that killed his girlfriend and left him paralyzed from the waist down. He died on 23rd January 1990 aged 37.

Film Surveys The Life And Times Of The Iconic Musician

HBO has acquired the North American broadcast rights to Martin Scorsese’s GEORGE HARRISON: LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD, which will debut in two parts — on October 5 and October 6, 2011 — exclusively on HBO.

London — Lionsgate Home Entertainment UK announced that it will be releasing the film in the UK on 10th October 2011 in three editions – DVD, Blu-ray and DVD Double play (DVD/ BD combi pack), and a beautifully packaged DVD / Blu-Ray Deluxe Edition, which includes an exclusive CD of previously unheard tracks from George Harrison, and a book of photography to accompany the film.

GEORGE HARRISON: LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD focuses the imaginative and inspired eye of one of cinema’s most pre-eminent filmmakers on one of the world’s most influential men. The film takes viewers on the musical and spiritual voyage that was George Harrison’s life, much of it told in his own words. The result is deeply moving and touches each viewer in unique and individual ways.

Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese traces Harrison’s life from his musical beginnings in Liverpool through his life as a musician, a seeker, a philanthropist, and filmmaker. Scorsese weaves together interviews with Harrison and his closest friends, performances, home movies, and photographs. Much of the material in the film has never been seen (or heard) before. The result is a rare glimpse into the mind and soul of one of the most talented artists of his generation and a profoundly intimate and affecting work of cinema.

The film includes interviews with Eric Clapton, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, George Martin, Paul McCartney, Yoko Ono, Tom Petty, Phil Spector, Ringo Starr and Jackie Stewart. They speak honestly and frankly about George’s many talents and contradictions.

The film was produced by Scorsese (through his Sikelia Productions banner), Olivia Harrison (through her Grove Street Pictures banner) and Nigel Sinclair (through Exclusive’s documentary label, Spitfire Pictures). Margaret Bodde served as the film’s executive producer and the film was edited by David Tedeschi (who previously worked with Scorsese, Bodde and Sinclair on the Grammy Award-winning NO DIRECTION HOME: BOB DYLAN and with Scorsese and Bodde on the Rolling Stone concert film SHINE A LIGHT and PUBLIC SPEAKING). Scott Pascucci also served as an executive producer for Grove Street.

The Beatles’ music, those beautifully lyrical guitar breaks and solos, those unforgettable songs of George’s, like “I Me Mine” or “If I Needed Someone,” and the images, in magazines, on album covers, the TV appearances, the newsreel footage, the Richard Lester movies; and then there was the world after the Beatles, when George and his music seemed to open up and flower. I will never forget the first time I heard All Things Must Pass, the overwhelming feeling of taking in all that glorious music for the first time. It was like walking into a cathedral. George was making spiritually awake music – we all heard and felt it – and I think that was the reason that he came to occupy a very special place in our lives. So when I was offered the chance to make this picture, I jumped at it. Spending time with Olivia, interviewing so many of George’s closest friends, reviewing all that footage, some of it never seen before, and listening to all of that magnificent music – it was a joy, and an experience I’ll always treasure.”

Olivia Harrison notes, “Martin Scorsese’s intuition towards George was evident the first time we met to discuss this project. He sensed what George was about: his music, his strong beliefs, his art, his place in the Beatles story, and his extraordinary life afterwards. Marty’s wonderful film has found all of that and more.”

Additionally, in late September, Abrams Books will publish Olivia Harrison’s George Harrison: Living in the Material World, a personal archive of photographs, letters, diaries, and memorabilia from George’s life that reveals the arc of his life, from his guitar-obsessed boyhood in Liverpool, to the astonishment of the Beatles years, to his days as an independent musician and bohemian squire. The book release is intended to coincide with the release of Scorsese’s film.
