Corrosion Of Conformity - Wiseblood 

One of the most well-known Corrosion of Conformity albums, Wiseblood was their 5th full length release, peaking at #104 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart in the US in 1996. The history of Corrosion of Conformity in modern heavy music is highly significant, not least due to Pepper Keenan's formation of Down along with Pantera's Philip Anselmo, leaders of the New Orleans NOLA scene. A totally authentic heavy band and movement, COC naturally progressed from their thrashy, underground days to pushing the boundaries of what was classed as heavy music. Decibel Magazine refer to COC as 'a crucial stylistic lynchpin in the bridge between metal and punk' that 'irrevocably re-shaped crossover's sonic possibilities.'. Foghat - Fool For The City

Some songs are so ingrained in our consciousness that they are immediately identifiable upon hearing one or two notes. Featuring one of the most indelible riffs ever played, Foghat's air-guitar anthem "Slow Ride" is such a tune. The hit single turned the British band into stars and catapulted 1975's Fool for the City up the charts. And what a ride it is. We hear a lot of yearning today about the good-old, glory days of rock and roll, the simple kind that just locked into a good beat, turned out a raunchy groove, and simply kicked you in the butt. YOB: Doom metal classic 'Catharsis' to see deluxe vinyl reissue

Relapse Records is proud to announce the re-release of YOB's psyche-doom metal classic Catharsis on vinyl. After being out of print on vinyl for over six years, Catharsis has been given the deluxe re-issue treatment and will be released the way it was meant to be presented. Re-mastered from the original tapes by Tad Doyle, the reissue features stunning new artwork by Aaron Edge, and brand new liner notes from Guitarist / Vocalist Mike Scheidt.

Catharsis will see it's official vinyl re-release on March 4th in North America, March 3rd in the UK/World and February 28th in Germany/Benelux/Finland. Traveler, Trey's newest studio album, was co-produced with Peter Katis (The National, Interpol, Jónsi) at Tarquin Studios in Bridgeport, CT. THE SUPREMES - I HEAR A SYMPHONY

Like no other, Motown's founder Berry Gordy knew how to market 'his' acts. The Supremes (later named Diana Ross & The Supremes) were his mainstream Pop offering, bridging the gap between Soul and popular music, while even incorporating Classic themes (like "A Lover's Concerto" was inspired by Bach).

I Hear A Symphony (1966) contains some of the best tunes written by famed producing trio Holland-Dozier-Holland, as well as great cover versions of popular songs like "Unchained Melody" and the Beatles' "Yesterday".

BARON ROJO - VOLUMEN BRUTAL

Volumen Brutal is the second album by Spanish Metal band Barón Rojo, recorded at Ian Gillan's Kingsway studio in 1982. The record sold more than two million copies worldwide.  Its lyrics are in Spanish, but for the international market none other than Bruce Dickinson took care of helping the band with an English translation. This made the band especially popular in the UK, where they graced the cover of Kerrang! Magazine. "Stand Up" (the translated version of "Resistiré") was released as a European single.

DAVID GATES - FIRST

The first solo album of Bread's lead singer, aptly named First (1973), meant a new direction for the Pop icon. After Bread's demise, David Gates wanted to venture into different directions. At the time of recording he was clearly just leaving the crossroads, as this album stylistically resembles his former band. At times this collection of 9 songs begins to show a hint of individuality that he would develop fully on subsequent solo albums.

Behind the singer is a strong group of musicians; accompanying him are Jim Horn, Jim Gordon, Larry Carlton, Russ Kunkel and Mike Botts, among others. The album opener "Sail Around The World" made it to a single.

DEAR JERRY: I got really excited when I read that a standard retail issue of "Baby I Want You" and "Pray for Me" (Hog 1000), by the Moments, sold for nearly $3,800. That's quite a bundle for a record from the 1970s.

My interest is because I have a Hog special promotional version specifically for radio station use. I'm thinking it is even rarer than copies made for retail sales in record stores.

Whether or not mine is in the same value range is a big question, because this special promo has "Pray for Me" on one side and nothing on the reverse. It is absolutely blank!

Was this done intentionally?

How does having just the one song affect the value?

DEAR MICKEY: The effect on value is huge, all because they chose only the B-side for that promo.

The A-side of the original Hog 1000 is clearly "Baby I Want You," and that is the side collectors want most.

The sole intention of single-sided promo records was to eliminate the possibility of dee jays playing a B-side, thus drawing attention away from the "plug" side.

About the only reason to put "Pray for Me" on a one-sided promo is if the record company wanted to flip-flop the sides, in hopes the B-side would become the A-side.

All of which in this case was moot, since neither side made anyone's chart.

Sorry to say, your excitement, though understandable, is probably overblown. The single-sided "Pray for Me" routinely sells in the $100 to $200 range, not exactly chump change but far less than store stock copies fetch.

For the record, these Moments are not the same as the hugely successfully gang who, in 1970, put "Love on a Two-Way Street" in the Top 5.


DEAR JERRY: One of the records I bought in the '70s is "Chick-A-Boom," by Daddy Dewdrop.

As was always my habit when I brought home a new record, I gave the B-side a spin.

It turned out to be what I would call a filler. It was nothing special but suitable for a non-hit side. What intrigued me more was the odd title, "John Jacob Jingleheimer Smith."

Has there ever been a song title with a person's name longer than this? I can't think of one.

DEAR ANITA: For me, there is one tune whose title is memorable mostly because of its lengthy name: "Jose Villa Lobo Alfredo Thomaso Vincente Lopez," a 1968 single by Rex Allen (Decca 32322).

Whether we count the number of words (seven) or characters (38), this song tops "John Jacob Jingleheimer Smith," with its four words and 26 characters.

Unlike "Jingleheimer," a silly children's song, "Jose Villa Lobo Alfredo Thomaso Vincente Lopez" is a believable name. It is also an adventure story in which Lopez explains that his name wasn't always this long.

He reveals that during the Civil War, each of his three sons died in battle — Alfredo at Vicksburg, Thomaso at Bull Run, and Vincente at Gettysburg.

To honor his sons and their bravery, Jose added each of their names to his own.

Interestingly, the original 45 by the song's writer, Leon Payne (1963), is simply titled "Joe Lopez" (Starday 620). That same title is used for this track on Payne's "Americana" LP (Starday 236), also issued in '63.

Five years later, on Rex Allen's Decca release, Jose's full name is used: "Jose Villa Lobo Alfredo Thomaso Vincente Lopez."

As for "John Jacob Jingleheimer Smith," it existed long before Daddy Dewdrop gave it a "Chick-A-Boom" treatment and made it a rocker. Jim Lowe sang about this fellow in 1955 (Dot 15429), about one year before his first and most famous hit, "The Green Door" (Dot 15486).


IZ ZAT SO? Most post-'70s recordings of what we once knew as "John Jacob Jingleheimer Smith" have the title changed to "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt." This is true even when used in Sesame Street skits.

I have no idea why … unless they just wanted to increase their character count to 28.

Infinite Religions is a series of experimental albums seeking new answers for old questions. Duality is Part One. Composed of two songs—"Life" and "Death" —Duality explores the cycle of our existence. When played in exact synchronicity, "Life" and "Death" manifest a third song called "Duality".

This limited-edition release of 99 records features artwork created as a visual accompaniment to the music. Duality will also be available on CD and as a digital download beginning January 21, 2014.

With catchy hooks, three part harmonies, and a drummer who fires her ‘guns’ harder than most of her male compatriots, Bad Cop/Bad Cop bring to mind the ‘90s heyday of chicks who actually rocked, from the snarl of The Distillers and synchronized vocals of Dance Hall Crashers to the guitar prowess of The Muffs and wry lyrics of Lunachicks. All hailing from different parts of the U.S., the foursome met in Los Angeles while playing in bands like Compton SF, The Radio Sweetheart, The D’Maggs, The City, Angry Amputees, and Cunt Sparrer. After playing at the “Lilith Bear” party during San Francisco Bear Pride 2013, they were supported and encouraged by an unlikely audience member: NOFX’s Fat Mike. “After our set, Mike approached and said he liked all the songs and that he was going to do something with our band. I almost crapped myself, and the rest is history,” says singer & guitarist Stacey Dee.

Hole - Celebrity Skin

The 4th album by Hole was a huge commercial achievement, successfully bridging the gap between Grunge and guitar Pop. The band revolving around Kurt Cobain's widow Courtney Love carved a niche for themselves as the seminal female fronted Grunge group.

Established in 1991, the band functioned as a cathartic outlet for enfant terrible Love, which makes their work incredibly compelling. Their 1998 album Celebrity Skin revealed a polished, energetic sound. Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins co-wrote 5 songs on this superb album, among which the title track and "Malibu", both of which were released as singles.

Although the album reached #9 on the Billboard Top 200, original vinyl copies of Celebrity Skin were made in small numbers – therefore making this very first reissue ever a much needed one for the fans!

Painted Palms - Forever

Whether living four states away or four blocks away, Reese Donohue and Christopher Prudhomme have always used the Internet -- at first out of necessity, later out of preference -- to collaborate on their songwriting.

Although the cousins grew up together in Lafayette, Louisiana, Donohue eventually moved to San Francisco, while Prudhomme stayed near New Orleans.

The newfound distance between them forced the pair to start sending song ideas back and forth via e-mail, a virtual exchange that quickly spawned Painted Palms' first release, Canopy, which was discovered by of Montreal's Kevin Barnes

Tours with of Montreal, Braids and STRFKR soon followed before Prudhomme moved out west to San Francisco, where Donohue still lived.

Yet, despite being in the same place for the first time in years, the duo continued writing songs apart from one another -- completing individual ideas in isolation and piecing them together through the computer.

And so, the songs that would eventually form their debut full-length Forever, came together as if the musicians were still separated by 2000 miles: Donohue sending a short, looping beat and Prudhomme replying with a vocal melody before continuing to bounce the track back and forth between them until it was complete, this time focusing on creating songs with classic pop structures.

As if crafted by tailors so skilled you can never find the seams, the songs on Forever provide no hint of their patchwork beginnings. Instead, the album is permeated with blissfully buoyant tracks like "Here It Comes" and "Forever," which glide smoothly on a foundation of instantly memorable melodies.

Elsewhere, touches of Painted Palms' most prominent influences -- '60s psych pop paired with modern electronic production -- are clearly evident, as on the dark and driving hooks that propel lead single "Spinning Signs."

Don't be fooled, though. Underneath the sunny sonic exterior, the lyrics on Forever exist in a different place, with much of the focus centered on how it feels to be caught between the external world and one’s own thoughts.

"Thinking about myself too much I can see that / I don't know what to be," sings Prudhomme on Forever's title cut.

And in that moment a hint of irony is apparent, for as much as the members of Painted Palms want to get out of their own heads, they're awfully good at writing songs that will immediately get stuck in yours.
