New Metallica LP Soon?

Metallica will enter the studio in September to begin the follow up to 2008's 'Death Magnetic' album. It will be recorded by Rick Rubin.

"Every time [singer] James Hetfield picks up a guitar, there are some brilliant riffs that come out of it, and I try to make sure that they are all recorded and try to do my best to keep up with them and try to put some drums behind them," drummer Lars Ulrich said. "So there are, obviously, tons of ideas sitting around waiting to be had at in terms of turning ideas of James' into songs."

news from CandlelightRecords

DAYLIGHT DIES: New Album Confirmed For October 9th Release

Candlelight Records today confirms October 9 as the North American release date for Daylight Dies’ new album, A Frail Becoming. Mixed by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios (Opeth, Katatonia, Devin Townsend), the album features photography from award-winning Jonathan Mehring and packaging design by Agni Kaster. The release of A Frail Becoming silences a nearly four-year writing gap from the quintet.

"A Frail Becoming is an album which, at many times during its creation, felt as if it may never be realized," states drummer Jesse Haff. "As each of our lives proceeded down different paths, the challenges and obstacles we faced felt daunting and at times impassible. Out of this struggle we forged ahead, determined to write the best collection of music we’ve ever created. Thankfully our perseverance prevailed and A Frail Becoming stands as the most accomplished and varied album of our career."

Recording of A Frail Becoming commenced late 2011. Bassist/vocalist Egan O’Rourke coordinated capturing individual performances of Haff, guitarists Barre Gambling and Charley Shackelford, and vocalist Nathan Ellis. By year’s end, the raw tracks were ready for Bogren’s impressive and critical touches. Haff notes, "While still sounding distinctly Daylight Dies, each songs stands independently on its own, uncompromisingly representing a reflection of the moment in time they were each born in. Expect beautiful and haunting guitar-driven dark metal, enveloped by a wall of rhythms and textures one minute, and deeply expressive guitar leads, solos and acoustic passages the next."

Formed in Asheville, North Carolina circa 1996, Daylight Dies found an immediate and continually growing fanbase starting with the release of their debut EP Idle (2000). Decibel Magazine describes the band’s musical offering as, "a lot like spinning Anathema’s The Silent Enigma, Katatonia’s Discouraged Ones and The Cure’s Pornography at the same time." Blabbermouth notes, "their switch from harsh and anguished vocals to airy, Opeth-esque clean vocal works magnificently to grab the listener’s attention and give one pause for reflection on the beauty within." After releasing one album for Relapse Records (No Reply, 2002), Daylight Dies signed to England’s Candlelight Records in late 2005. The band has since released two acclaimed recordings (Dismantling Devotion, Lost To The Living), performed with labelmates Emperor to two capacity New York City shows, toured North America twice (alongside Moonspell and Katatonia 2006 and direct support to Candlemass 2008), and now ready for the autumn release and anticipated early 2013 tour.

Track List:
1. Infidel
2. The Pale Approach
3. Sunset
4. Dreaming of Breathing
5. A Final Vestige
6. Ghosting
7. Hold On To Nothing
8. Water’s Edge
9. An Heir to Emptiness

Ask Mr. Music by Jerry Osborne

FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 23, 2012

DEAR JERRY: I finally got to see "Backbeat," a film about the Beatles in the years before they became known beyond Hamburg and Liverpool.

It is especially hard to realize that it took two years before Americans knew what was going on in Europe.

Or was there perhaps some publicity here in 1962 and '63 that has been forgotten?
—Ric Fairchild, Brooklyn, N.Y.

DEAR RIC: Buckle up, our time machine is going to revisit some key dates and events leading up to Beatlemania:

October 5, 1962: Their first record as the Beatles, "Love Me Do" and "P.S. I Love You" (Parlophone 4949), is issued in the UK. Though the single topped the "Mersey Beat" survey, that is a regional publication, one heavily influenced by the Liverpool scene, as stated by their masthead: "The North's Own Entertainments (sic) Paper."

It would, however, be another six months before the popularity of the Beatles throughout Britain would catch up with their accomplishments on the Merseyside.

This is evidenced by the success, and lack of it, of their debut record.

Reaching No. 1 on Mersey Beat didn't help "Love Me Do" much on the national level. It entered the NME (New Musical Express) Top 30 at No. 27, on October 27th, only to drop completely off the chart after just one week.

November 24, 1962: The Great Britain portion of Cash Box's International Section carries this tiny blurb, yet one of historical significance: "A&R manager George Martin sees a bright future of The Beatles — a new vocal instrumental group making their debut on the Parlophone label with their own composition "Love Me Do."

Since Cash Box does not quote Martin as the source of this comment, it may have been gleaned from an October press release. (Thanks to Cash Box archivist Randy Price for providing this page.)

Regardless, this single sentence stands as the first mention of "The Beatles" in any U.S. publication — 14 months before America heard "I Want to Hold Your Hand."

Coincidentally, the topic directly below on this page is a mention of Mr. Acker Bilk's recent trip to America, and his new U.S. release, "Limelight." As you will see, Bilk and the Beatles are destined to cross paths again soon.

January 11, 1963: "Please Please Me" and "Ask Me Why," the second Beatles single (Parlophone 4983), is issued, to very favorable reviews.

January 13, 1963: Two days later, the boys made the 100 mile journey from Liverpool to Birmingham, for their first of 12 appearances on ABC-TV's "Thank Your Lucky Stars." Of course they sang the newly-released "Please Please Me."

The show was filmed on Sunday, before a live audience, then broadcast the following Saturday (Feb. 19).

The Beatles were just one act on the schedule, and a group with only one briefly-charted single to their credit ("Love Me Do"), and the still unknown follow-up ("Please Please Me").

Headlining the show, and the one act on the bill with an international smash and million-seller on the resume, was clarinetist Acker Bilk. One year earlier, his "Stranger on the Shore" reached No. 1 in the U.S., UK, and several other countries.

Highlighting the evening was a presentation to Bilk of three trophy-like awards, based on Billboard's 1962 European dee jay poll.

Thankfully, someone snapped a photo of Mr. Acker Bilk on stage, flanked by Billboard's European Director, Art Rosett; local dee jay, Sam Costa; and TYLS host, Brian Matthew.

Also gathered around, admiring Bilk's awards, are seven other guests on the show: Mike Berry; Brook Brothers; Frankie Vaughan; Chris Barber; Alma Cogan; and "John Lennon of the Beatles."

The photo made its way to Billboard in New York, and ran in the Feb. 2nd issue, prominently placed at the top of page four, but only with a caption identifying each person. There is neither a story nor any accompanying text.

Other than a U.S. reader's interest being piqued by Bilk's success in a poll of British dee jays, it is likely very few here paid much attention to a small gathering in Birmingham of folks whose names they did not recognize.

At the time, no one could have imagined the degree of importance of this uncredited photo.

It is the first photograph of any of the Beatles found in a stateside publication.

Their next mention is in the Feb. 16th issue, among the latest music tidbits from Britain, part of the weekly International News Reports: "In a deal with EMI, Vee-Jay will release records made by the Beatles (Parlophone), a promising British vocal-instrumental group that has yet to make a large chart impact here [in the UK]."

Beginning two weeks later, the Beatles regularly appeared in the Hits of the World section, but without photos or commentary. Just titles and artists on the weekly charts from selected countries.

In conclusion, applying 21st century know-how to 50-year-old events can be misleading. In 1962, no one in those seamy Merseyside and Hamburg clubs even had hand-held audio recorders, much less Flip Video capability, and most importantly, the internet.

Still, I can't help but wonder how the Beatles would have fared as contestants on Britain's Got Talent.

IZ ZAT SO? Well documented is how Vee-Jay misspelled the group's name on the first Beatles record issued in the U.S.

First pressings of "Please Please Me" and "Ask Me Why" (VJ 498) credit THE BEATTLES, on both the promotional and commercial labels.

What is not quite so well known is this was not simply a typo. They also used two Ts on their press releases, new release reports, and even in professionally prepared display ads placed in the trades.

If the company knew this record would, in 2012, fetch from $2,000 to $6,000, they would have set a few boxes aside.

Never Mind The Bollocks Here’s The Sex Pistols – Super Deluxe Edition Box Set

LIMITED EDITION BOX SET Available In September

As one of the most iconic and influential albums in music history ‘Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols’ still sounds as powerful and unique as ever, 35 years since the original release. As such an important musical and cultural force the album changed the landscape for records and the music industry.

The original master tapes from the ‘Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols’ recording sessions in 1977 were thought to be lost for many years. Now thankfully rediscovered during the recent move from Virgin Records to Universal Music Catalogue in January 2012 the tapes have been remastered, for the very first time, by Tim Young under direction from original producer Chris Thomas. Some real treats have also been found along the way. The find that will perhaps excite fans the most is the lost 1977 demo studio recording of ‘Belsen Was A Gas’, the only original Sex Pistols composition of the era thought not to be recorded.

Other treats include the inclusion of six demos first included on the infamous ‘Spunk’ bootleg album, released for the very first time in their original, untouched form following the very recent discovery of their original master tapes. These, combined with a selection of unreleased Chris Thomas demo’s and outtakes from the recording of the album – including tracks with Sid Vicious on bass – plus a wealth of live audio and visual material all from 1977 make up a box set that will truly satisfy fans of the band.

Box Set Contents:

• CD1 – Never Mind The Bollocks Here’s The Sex Pistols: 2012 Re-mastered, from the thought lost original master tapes with process overseen by original producer Chris Thomas.

• CD2 – 1977 Studio Rarities & B-Sides: Previously unreleased 1977 recordings including the legendary Belsen Was A Gas with John on vocals plus the original single b-sides, again all remastered from the original master tapes.

• CD3 – 1977 Live: High quality live recordings from 1977, most of which are previously unreleased.

THE OUTLAWS DECLARES ‘IT’S ABOUT PRIDE’ ON THEIR FIRST NEW ALBUM IN 18 YEARS, DUE OUT SEPTEMBER 25

For THE OUTLAWS (@outlawsmusic), it’s not only about the music they’ve made for decades, it’s also about the pride they’ve always put into creating their legacy. As purely evidenced on their much long-awaited sixth studio album, IT’S ABOUT PRIDE is due out September 25 on Rocket Science Ventures. "Tomorrow’s Another Night," the album’s first single, is being serviced to radio on August 20. The band known for their triple-guitar Rock attack and three-part Country harmonies finally returns to the music scene with their first new studio album since 1994’s DIABLO CANYON (Blues Bureau International).

During the last 40 years, the Southern Rock legends--founding singer/songwriter/guitarist Henry Paul and drummer/songwriter Monte Yoho along with lead guitarist Billy Crain, co-lead guitarist Chris Anderson, keyboardist/vocalist Dave Robbins and bassist/vocalist Randy Threet—have celebrated triumphs, endured tragedies and survived legal nightmares to remain one of the most influential and best-loved bands of the genre. Now THE OUTLAWS are back with new music, a new focus and an uncompromising new mission: it’s about a band of brothers bound together by history, harmony and the road. It’s about a group that respects its own legacy while refusing to be defined by its past. Most of all, it’s about pride.

IT’S ABOUT PRIDE is an album four years in the making and perhaps 20 or more in the waiting. For original OUTLAWS singer/songwriter/guitarist Henry Paul, it’s a hard-fought revival whose success can be measured in old fans and new music. "Because THE OUTLAWS have been out of the public eye for so long, it’s almost like starting over," he explains. "But because of the band’s history, we’re seeing this as a new chapter. We’ve written and recorded this album on our own terms, and we’re out to make a significant impression. What our fans loved then they still love now, because we are just as good or even better than we were. Most of all, they recognize the heart of what it is we still do."

For co-founding drummer/songwriter Monte Yoho, the journey is both bittersweet and jubilant. "I still think about the friends we made when we first came into this industry, how we struggled to define this thing that became known as ‘Southern Rock,’" he says. "This new album embodies all the things we shared musically and personally, as well as the relationships we have with our fans to this day. It’s about where we’ve been, where we’re going, and why we still love to do this."

In addition to the touring THE OUTLAWS will be doing over the next few months to promote IT’S ABOUT PRIDE, they’ll also be a part of the "Simple Man Cruise" on Norwegian Pearl along with Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Doobie Brothers, and many others, which departs from Miami on October 27. Fans can check out www.simplemancruise.com for further info.

Of a recent live show, Bill Robinson of Huffingtonpost.com proclaimed: "…(Henry Paul and Monte Yoho) are doing a valiant job at staying true to the original Outlaws melodies…Besides the lyrical genius of Paul's words and the imagery they convey, these songs' music mixes a beautiful, acoustic guitar opening with raucous, hard-driving type leads from there on in."

Formed in Tampa in 1972, THE OUTLAWS became one of the first acts signed by Clive Davis (at the urging of Ronnie Van Zant) to his then-fledgling Arista Records. The band’s first three albums, THE OUTLAWS, LADY IN WAITING and HURRY SUNDOWN (featuring such Rock radio favorites as "There Goes Another Love Song," "Green Grass & High Tides," "Knoxville Girl" and "Freeborn Man"), would become worldwide Gold and Platinum landmarks of the Southern Rock era. Known as "The Florida Guitar Army" by their fans, THE OUTLAWS earned a formidable reputation as an incendiary live act touring with friends The Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Marshall Tucker Band and The Charlie Daniels Band as well as Doobie Brothers, The Who, Eagles and The Rolling Stones. Henry Paul left after the group’s third album to form The Henry Paul Band for Atlantic Records, and later the multi-Platinum country trio Blackhawk. Over the next 20-plus years, THE OUTLAWS would experience rampant personnel changes, tonal missteps, ill-fated reunions and bitter trademark battles that left fans – not to mention Paul and Yoho – frustrated and saddened. And with the tragic deaths of co-founding members Frank O’Keefe and Billy Jones in 1995, and songwriter/vocalist/lead guitarist Hughie Thomasson in 2007, it was feared that THE OUTLAWS’ trail had come to an end.

"THE OUTLAWS were the one area of my career where I had regrets," admits Paul. "More importantly, I think it was the one area in my career where I thought I still have something to prove. I felt compelled to stick my neck out and take a chance of putting this band back together. I knew we would be judged, but I hoped we would be judged on our abilities."

MOS GENERATOR Announce New Album Title and Release Date

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

It’s been five years since the world has heard new material from MOS GENERATOR, and fortunately, that streak is about to end! The brand new MOS GENERATOR full-length album is called Nomads and will be available world-wide on October 23rd, 2012 through Ripple Music. The nine track album features the heaviness and elegant melody that have become the trademark sounds of the band, but this time lyrically exploring the introspective path of soul salvation.

"Nomads, as a whole, is the literal journey that Mos Generator has made," states guitarist/singer Tony Reed on the theme behind the new record, "The songs are interpersonal tales about the struggles that we’ve all faced with each other, our personal lives, the making of this record, just getting through life. And, of course, there are some science fiction themes, as well."

The Port Orchard, Washington rock n’ roll nomads spent almost a year tracking, recording, and mixing the new album until they were happy with the end result, constantly holding the material to the light, never wanting to release anything less than stellar.

"The album had to stand up to the Mos history," continues Reed, "We’ll never put out something that we feel is inferior, and admittedly, there was a lot of second guessing with some of the material selections and mixes."

Nomads will be available through Nail/Allegro Distribution in the U.S., Code 7 in the UK, and Clearspot International through continental Europe. Look for MOS GENERATOR to hit the road throughout the Pacific Northwest in late September and then possible more road work later in the year and early 2013.

Track List:
1. Cosmic Ark
2. Lonely One Kenobi
3. Torches
4. Step Up
5. Solar Angels
6. For Your Blood

Press Release:

Queen Release Greatest Video Hits on DVD in North America

August 28th Sees The Best of Queen's 70s and 80s Promo Videos Get Released in 2-disc Box Set

This 2-disc set packages many of Queen’s classic promotional videos into 1 package for the first time. The 33 videos on display have gone through video restoration and received a DTS Surround Sound mix, along with commentary from Brian May and Roger Taylor.

Disc 1 spotlights Queen in the 1970’s, when the music video began to emerge. This collection highlights some of their most beloved tracks, from "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Another One Bites The Dust", "We Will Rock You" & "We Are The Champions". From the freezing backyard shoots of "We Will Rock You" and "Spread Your Wings", to the visual masterpiece that accompanies "Bohemian Rhapsody", Queen was already showing off the various ways that they visually wanted to represent their music.

Disc 2 shows the masterwork of Queen in the 1980’s, from 1982’s Hot Space album through 1989’s The Miracle. With the advent of MTV in the US, Queen proved that they could be as creative visually as they were on record. From the Metropolis-themed video for "Radio Ga Ga", the spoofing of Coronation Street in "I Want To Break Free" (which would be banned from the network) and the band being replaced by children in "The Miracle", Queen put their stamp on the music video in the best way they knew how: by doing something new and different each time.

Flea Records Album With Proceeds Going To The Silverlake Conservatory of Music

From Flea:

Warning! It is not a Chili Peppers record. It does not have songs that are like the Chili Peppers at all. It is a mostly instrumental, weird and arty record, the music is mostly just me creating soundscapes that are very emotional for me, but certainly not for everyone! Just me tripping out at home. I am putting it out to raise money for The Silverlake Conservatory of Music a community based non profit music school that i am an integral part of.

Thorns - Thorns (double vinyl)

Originally formed in 1989 by mastermind Snorre Ruch, Marius Vold, & Bård Faust (Emperor), Norwegian band Thorns has inspired a great number of acts such as Satyricon, Mayhem, Dissection, & Emperor, mainly due to Snorre's highly influential style of playing & creating riffs on the early Thorns demo tapes. So impressed was Euronymous of Mayhem, that Snorre became second guitarist in the band for a while & his riffs were used in classic Mayhem tracks.

'Thorns' was the band's debut (& only, thus far) full-length studio album. It was released in 2001 & is a cult slice of highly-individual Norwegian black metal, including experimental & sometimes industrial influences along with synth passages to create a chilling yet clinical slice of extremity. The album was notable for featuring Satyr of Satyricon on vocals, a duty shared between songs with the vocal talent of Aldrahn (ex-Dødheimsgard) & the recording line-up also featured Hellhammer of Mayhem on drums. The outcome was a unique & original album which is today considered a cult classic release by critics.

This edition of 'Thorns' contains 2 bonus tracks from the band's 2000 demo; namely the album track 'Existence' but also a previously unreleased song called 'TSoS'. This edition of 'Thorns' is presented officially for the first time on vinyl. On double black 180gm vinyl.

Stolen Babies Reveals New Album Cover Art

Avant-garde act Stolen Babies have recently revealed the album cover art for the band's upcoming full-length album called 'Naught, which is slated for release later this year.

"In continuing our collaboration with artist Crab Scrambly, it was really important to us to create something our fans would want to keep staring at while they caress and possibly fondle it's smooth exterior... not something easily done to a downloadable mp3, I must note," states bassist Rani Sharone. "We hope this album cover brings plenty of candy coated smiles to the masses and even more warm and fuzzy feelings when they see the rest of this little gem that is the album's packaging. Naught is our mutant, not so well behaved second full-length studio album and we look forward to its release!"

The band plans to release more details about 'Naught' in the near future.

Beatles Album Sells For $15,000

A NM copy of the first Beatles album to be released in the US recently sold (July 12th) for almost $15,000 at auction on eBay. A rich record collector paid $14,999 for an "Ad-Back" copy of ‘Introducing … the Beatles.’ What makes the album unique is the back cover of the jacket, which featured a full-page advertisement record company Vee-Jay records used after realizing they had 6K front album covers, but no back cover. The ad has 25 records from their label.

In this world of buyer beware, this particular Beatles LP is one of the most counterfeited records out there (I have a 'bootleg copy myself), so be careful, my friends.....

DEVIL TO PAY Sign With RIPPLE MUSIC; Enter Studio to Record New Album For Vinyl and CD

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RIPPLE MUSIC is proud to announce the signing of acclaimed, hard-hitting American Doom rockers, DEVIL TO PAY to their ever-expanding roster!

The band’s fourth, as of yet untitled, album is set for worldwide release on RIPPLE MUSIC in the coming months and the band will subsequently tour to knock the crowds out of their skulls, including appearances in all the major heavy rock/doom festivals.

DEVIL TO PAY commented yesterday upon the new alliance; "We are stoked to be a part of the Ripple family and to work with one of the most genuine heavy rock labels in the world! Having released our first three albums independently, it’s clear that these guys don't compromise in terms of putting out creative music and are the true believers of heavy rock. The variety of bands and the sheer quality of music they’ve released speaks for itself. We are very much honored that our music earned its place among their ranks!"

DEVIL TO PAY was formed in the beginning of the millennia as a doom rock band with metal/stoner and rock tangents, effortlessly crushing skulls while simultaneously coaxing them to sing along. The band hails the almighty riff, but unlike many of their contemporaries, the song is still king. That is what separates the great bands from the shoulda & coulda bands. Now celebrating their 10th year anniversary, DEVIL TO PAY has aged like Kentucky bourbon, distilling a culmination of years of sweat, highway miles, cigarette smoke and hangovers into crushing compositions and bone-jarring, heavy musical moments.

With a catalog of underground releases, DEVIL TO PAY gained accolades, awards and a hard earned cult-like status. They have established themselves as the go-to band for those searching out more than just a few killer riffs; a foundation of heavy that will flourish under the Ripple banner.

NEO-COUNTRY ROCK SENSATION SHANE GAMBLE SADDLES UP FOR NEW ALBUM RELEASE 9/18/12

RADIANT MUSIC VIDEO FOR HIT SINGLE "TURN MY WAY" EXCLUSIVELY PREMIERES THROUGH BAEBLE MUSIC

"Shane Gamble writes classic, Americana leaning songs, dipping in to pop, country, and dabs of indie rock along the way. Think of it as equal parts Nashville and New York, all tumbling about in songs that are crystal clear in their topical intentions."

"Gamble pens the lyrics to adult alternative tunes, then works through the musical arrangements by blending in aspects of folk, rock, country and Western." --- NORTHERN VIRGINIA MAGAZINE

Shane Gamble, the rugged singer / songwriter with honey-toned vocals and hint of country swag, announces the release of his latest album, on September 18, 2012. Effortlessly yet intricately weaving together Pop, Country, Americana, and Indie Rock, Shane Gamble’s music comes across like a freight train heading full steam on the road less traveled. Propelled by a steady and assured rhythm section, layered guitars, and beautiful vocal harmonies, Shane rhapsodizes about love, adventure, and emotional redemption.

You take one look at Shane with his short tussled hair, a worn denim shirt, leather boots, and acoustic guitar slung across his shoulders – and you’ll know that this guy believes in what music can do to the mind and the soul. Gamble attacks his acoustic guitar with an energy rarely seen at such events. He tends to lean forward on one foot and face towards the microphone – guitar at a downward angle, singing from the depths of soul with earnest conviction.

This neo-country crooner is sharing 12 sparkling & seductive new songs on his forthcoming full-length self-titled album. Shane Gamble is an album that finds him combining radio-friendly songs, ("Turn My Way" & "One Balloon") resonating distinctly with Nashville cats and New York City hipsters alike. Each track on Shane Gamble pulls at a different heartstring, revealing raw and emotive melodies accentuated by Shane’s mind blowing talents on the harmonica.

The music video for the album’s compelling debut single "Turn My Way" had its exclusive world premiere on Baeble Music. "It’s not necessarily about perfection, I just love capturing music that is honest and real. I want you to hear ‘Turn My Way’ and connect with the lyrics on an emotional level, that’s the only hope a song has to leave a lasting impression," says Shane about his leading track.

To celebrate his upcoming release, Shane Gamble will be performing a series of Mid-Atlantic tour dates. Shane Gamble will be available on Tuesday, September 18.

Shane Gamble Track Listing:
1) Turn My Way
2) Bleeder
3) One Balloon
4) Rosalee
5) Way Back To Town
6) Break Your Fall
7) Wish
8) Kissing You Tomorrow
9) Blue Sky
10) Bounce Back
11) Shelter Me
12) Always Did

WITCHCRAFT: "Legend" Cover Art Revealed!

Swedish doom metal icons WITCHCRAFT have revealed the cover art of the band's forthcoming album, Legend, which marks the bands first after a long 5 year hiatus.

Commented singer/mainman Magnus Pelander: "A friend of mine had an idea about a cover for Legend. I developed the idea and gave it back to my friend who then passed it on to another friend who happened to be a designer. The designer then pushed it in a new direction. The result is already legendary."

Bass player Ola Henriksson adds: "The album cover is meant to reflect the music and I think it does that with its heavy, dark & clean design."

Legend will be released September 21 (Europe) and September 25, 2012 (North America) via Nuclear Blast.

Iron Maiden's Steve Harris To Release Solo LP

Iron Maiden's Steve Harris just announced he will release a solo album called 'British Lion' via EMI Music on September 24, 2012. The album is comprised of ten songs that Steve and his collaborators have been working on for the past few years between Iron Maiden tours and releases.

According to the press release: "With a decidedly heavy rock-vibe this roaring debut paints with a full palette of sounds; brooding, melancholic, righteously indignant and exuberantly heavy. With Kevin Shirley at the mixing helm – whose credits include Iron Maiden as well as Led Zeppelin, Journey and Rush among many others – this is an album to sink your teeth into.

"From the growling riffage of opening salvo 'This Is My God' to the heavy forlorn balladry of follow-up Lost Worlds which showcases Richard Taylor’s soaring vocals, it’s clear that ‘British Lion’ is an altogether different beast from Maiden.

" 'Karma Killer', with its dirge-like muscularity, and 'Us Against The World', with its massive chorus, demonstrates just how far ‘British Lion’ has flexed Steve Harris’ considerable musical muscle. Dovetailed with guitarist David Hawkins’ positively gargantuan lyrical guitar melodies, it’s a mere hors d'oeuvre ahead of the epic, riffing-feast of 'The Chosen Ones', with its swaggering bravado.

" 'A World Without Heaven, at a breathtaking seven minutes and infused with progressive elements without ever teetering into self-indulgence illustrates perfectly these songsmiths’ colossal abilities to create a mood and stay there. Supercharged by Steve Harris’ inimitable style, there’s an un-cynical vibe here that’s as refreshing as it is out of place in today’s all-too-categorised music industry.

"And as far as the name ‘British Lion’; 'I’ve always been proud to be British,' explains Steve, 'I don’t see any reason why I shouldn’t be. It’s a massive part of being me. It’s not like I’m flag-waving or trying to preach, this is not a political statement at all. It’s like supporting your football team, where you come from. I just think it lends itself to some really strong imagery too, and to me it fits in with the sound.'

"With Iron Maiden, Steve Harris has become one of the most recognised and successful ambassadors for British music on the world stage. Having released 15 studio albums, sold over 85 million records worldwide and played more than two thousand gigs in 58 countries in the band’s thirty-five year career, his appeal is truly global.

"And now with ‘British Lion’, Steve steps out from Iron Maiden’s illustrious shadow to present a different side of his musical visions."

The tracklisting for ‘British Lion’ is as follows:

1. This Is My God
2. Lost Worlds
3. Karma Killer
4. Us Against The World
5. The Chosen Ones
6. A World Without Heaven
7. Judas
