Vinyl Record News & Music Notes

Availability: Available to pre-order

Following Todd Terje's incredible 2012 remix of Roxy Music's 'Love Is  The Drug', Bryan Ferry has recruited some of the best producers in the  world to remix his 1985 hit ‘Don’t Stop The Dance’.
Now released  by The Vinyl Factory as a series of three super-deluxe limited   editions of only 1000 copies each - with bespoke screen printed thick  card sleeves housing 180-gram records mastered for vinyl by Noel  Summerville at 3345 Mastering and  crafted on the EMI 1400 in Hayes,  Middlesex.
The track was originally the third single from the  number one album Boys & Girls, and featured long-serving guest  musicians Nile Rodgers, Marcus Miller, Omar Hakim, Andy Newmark and  David Sanborn.

"The recording was done in various studios in  London, New York and Nassau, and the whole process took about two  years," recalls Bryan Ferry. "I  wrote 'Don't Stop The Dance' together  with my co-producer and engineer  Rhett Davies, and I remember the track  originating in some sessions we  did at my home studio in England. We  finally mixed the record with Bob  Clearmountain at The Power Station  studios in New York."

Isaac Ferry hand-picked the producers to Re/Make - Re/Model 'Don't Stop The Dance' in various guises, re-enlisting previous collaborators Todd Terje, Eric Duncan and Greg Wilson, alongside Idjut Boys, Sleazy Mcqueen, Space Coast, Punks Jump Up, and two versions from both Psychemagick and Grasshopper aka in-house keyboard programmer Liam Duggan.

"After  the successful release of 'Olympia Remixes', we decided that my song  'Don't Stop The Dance' should really be revisited by a new generation of  DJs," says Bryan Ferry.

"Since my first solo album in 1973 I've  always tried to reinterpret other people's songs in my own way. So it  has been good to hear 'Don't Stop Dance' in so many different  incarnations. It's fascinating to see how some of the remixes focus on  certain aspects of the song, and some on another...they all take the  track to a variety of interesting places."

3D and the art of Massive Attack

Limited Edition Vinyl Box Set - The Vinyl Factory

"When I was about ten years old, a kid called 3D was painting the streets hard. 3D quit painting and formed the band Massive Attack, which may have been a good thing for him but was a big loss for the city." Banksy (Swindle magazine, 2008)

The Vinyl Factory presents 3D and the art of Massive Attack by Robert del Naja aka 3D - the first book on the visual history of a band who have sold over 11 milliion records worldwide, compiled and designed by 3D using images from a personal archive and original artifacts scanned by the artist for the record.

Robert’s artwork has come to define the iconic style of his band and the book explores their visual history, presenting both familiar and previously unseen work, from his influential graffiti and stencil art in the Wild Bunch-era of the ‘80s to Massive Attack cover designs and paste-ups and paintings. Also included is work made in collaboration with Nick Knight, Tom Hingston, Judy Blame and Michael Nash Associates, as well as unseen photographs documenting Del Naja’s ongoing collaboration with United Visual Artists. And his recent work with filmmaker Adam Curtis.

The 400-page book also features an in-depth interview with the artist, where he describes the development of the band’s artwork and record sleeve designs, as well as offering insight into his processes, and inspirations.

Del Naja’s background as a graffiti artist has shaped his evolving aesthetic, as well as a strong ethos of ‘do it yourself’ creativity. His instincts as an artist were forged in an atmosphere of spontaneity and innovation - from making flyers to throwing warehouse parties - and this way of working informed the first record sleeves he created as 3D.

Inspired by magazine culture and comics, 3D drew on wide-ranging influences, from New York’s hip-hop scene and Japanese graphics, Jean-Michel Basquiat’s cultural juxtapositions to Warhol’s pop imagery, politics and punk.

“I was always told that any artist that wanted to be taken seriously should never paint record sleeves” Robert del Naja

The Vinyl Factory will publish 3D and the art of Massive Attack on 28 October 2013; the hardback book will be priced at £50.

Soundtrack will be made available for the first time anywhere at a special Fantastic Fest Screening Mondo is excited to announce the limited edition vinyl release of the Timescrimes Original Motion Picture Soundtrace at a special Fantastic Fest screening on Thursday, September 26 at the Alamo Drafthouse Lakeline. Director Nacho Vigalondo’s sci-fi thriller became a sensation following its world premiere at Fantastic Fest in 2007, where it was championed for its bold and innovative take on the time travel genre. Filmmaker Eugenio Mira composed the soundtrack, which has never been released previously, and We Buy Your Kids did the gorgeous artwork for the limited edition vinyl.

Composer and writer Brian Satterwhite collaborated with Mondo on the project, "Timecrimes has been hailed by critics and audiences alike as one of the best time-travel films of our time. Much of the film's success relies heavily upon Eugenio Mira's masterful score. His minimalistic approach maximizes the subtle tones and nuances of the narrative with surgical precision while adding a highly refined layer of polish to this high-concept science-fiction thriller.”

The soundtrack will be made available on black 180 gram vinyl, and randomly inserted milky yellow/clear vinyl. It will be available for purchase at the Fantastic Fest screening of Timecrimes on September 26, and will be for sale online a future date. Follow @MondoNews for updtes.
