Vinyl Record News & Music Notes

from our friends at SoundStageDirect

Your Blues by Destroyer

Your Blues is a stunning collection of songs and craftsmanship. Bombastic and bold at times, quiet and soothing at others, Your Blues has an almost theatrical quality that informs the compositions. Originally released on CD in 2004, Destroyer’s sixth studio album is now widely available on vinyl, as the December installment in the Merge25 reissue series.

Recorded with the production duo JC/DC (aka David Carswell and John Collins) -- who aided in the creation of Destroyer’s first three discs -- Dan Bejar ditches the band format he used for 2002’s This Night with tremendous results. Fusing a dramatic vocal style akin to that of David Bowie in the 1970s with 1980s studio achievers like Microdisney and Prefab Sprout, Your Blues is regularly breathtaking.

Rock Or Bust (On Sale) by AC / DC **

“Play Ball” is the first track off of AC/DC’s new album, Rock or Bust, and premiered on iHeart Media’s Mainstream, Active and Classic Rock radio formats. “Play Ball” is featured as part of Turner Sports’ 2014 Major League Baseball Postseason campaign and also NFL’s Monday Night Football broadcast.

Rock or Bust features a non-traditional and inventive three-dimensional lenticular cover, which gives the illusion of the band’s iconic logo exploding as the packaging is moved in different directions. This unique 3-D cover art can be seen on the band’s site. ‘Rock or Bust’ was recorded in Spring 2014 in Vancouver, BC with producer Brendan O’Brien and mixed by Mike Fraser. ‘Rock or Bust’ is the band’s first album of new material in six years, following their immensely successful ‘Black Ice,’ which entered charts at #1 in 31 countries and has sold nearly 8 million copies worldwide.

The Boy With The Arab Strap by Belle And Sebastian

This highly anticipated album from Belle and Sebastian arrives with every hope satisfied. Each song is a cunning short story that wraps itself around you like a cozy couch throw. The loose theme running through this 12-song reverie is seduction. It plays out in both the drowsy sexual hopes of principal songwriter Stuart Murdoch's idle protagonists and the giddiness of bandmate Stevie Jackson's "Seymour Stein" and "Chickfactor," which document his bewitchment by the city of New York and its beautiful girls and florid pitchmen. The complex arrangements favor a whimsical diversity best experienced in "Sleep the Clock Around," which features synthesizer bloops, trumpets, and bagpipes! If you haven't figured out that this Scottish eight-piece deserves every iota of hype it's receiving, it's time to have your ears checked and your record collection gone over by a certified professional. --Lois Maffeo

DragonForce's 'Maximum Overload' On Sale

It's astonishing to realize that DragonForce now have a history going back 15 years, and that they're about to release their sixth album. But such is the pace at which music and life move these days that what was seemingly a highly promising young British metal band just yesterday are now an established full force (ahem) on the scene. In fact, their reputation is such that anything new from this lot is regarded as a landmark moment in the ongoing story of metal. But the new DragonForce album is a revelation, one that will surely entice them to another level of achievement.

It's called "Maximum Overload," and that's precisely what you get from the 10 tracks on the main album, plus the five bonus songs for the special edition and a DVD. "We have our own style and sound," says Herman Li, who founded the band in 1999 with fellow guitarist Sam Totman. "And we didn't want to move away from that. Once you've got your trademark approach in place, that's what fans come to expect from you. But we also wanted to challenge ourselves. We didn't want to rehash what we'd done before, but take it all in a fresh direction."

Goatwhore's 'Constricting Rage of the Merciless' On Sale

From the combatant onset of "Poisonous Existence In Reawakening," and the tense, hammering momentum of "Unraveling Paradise," to the punkish urgency of "FBS" and the fiendish cascades of "Schadenfreude" (literally meaning the pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others), Goatwhore spew their unadulterated, subterranean metal as channeled through the historic likes of Motörhead and Bathory, with the insatiable hunger of a pack of wild boars. These are true requiems of revolt, at once predatory, epic, hate-fueled and sadistic. Due at least in part to the sheer synergy that comes from living in a van together for weeks on end, "Constricting Rage Of The Merciless" is razor sharp in musicianship literally writhing beneath the weight of its own sonic enormity. Duet's thick, gnarled guitar tones and bestial vocal accents coil seamlessly around Simmons' and Harvey's, brash, chest-heaving rhythms. It's all punctuated by the imposing voice and cynical prose of Falgoust who literally ran laps around the studio before taking to the mic to summon a more frantic, rasping edge to his signature tirades, now more enunciated than ever before. When Falgoust howls, "WE ARE COMING TO SMASH YOUR IDOLS!" (in traditional metal rager "Baring Teeth For Revolt"), souls weaken, forests die, planets implode. In a saturated metal landscape where sub-genres spawn sub-sub-genres and the very definition of "metal" seems repeatedly distorted by cross-pollinating madness, sacred are the bands who to stay true to their proverbial roots without repeating them.

Will Butler's New LP 'Policy' Up For Pre-Order

Will Butler has been a member of the band Arcade Fire for over 10 years. This is his first release under his own name.

Policy is American music—in the tradition of the Violent Femmes, The Breeders, The Modern Lovers, Bob Dylan, Smokey Robinson, The Magnetic Fields, Ghostface Killah. And John Lennon (I know, but it counts). Music where the holy fool runs afoul of the casual world.

Policy was recorded in one week in Jimi Hendrix’s old living room (upstairs at Electric Lady Studios). Jeremy Gara played drums; other musicians contributed woodwinds and backing vocals. Most everything else was played by Will.

LP includes a coupon for a full download. Preorders will ship to arrive on or around the release date of March 10.

Filter Distortion 'Transition' Pre-Order

Filter Distortion, a four piece electro band from Liverpool, have finally emerged from a self-imposed year of confinement in a windowless room.  The band set about producing their finest work yet, and have certainly achieved their aim with debut album 'Transmission'.  Recorded using just 3 microphones, the band wrote and produced all the album's tracks before mastering with engineer and producer Daniel Woodward at Liverpool's Whitewood Recording Studio.

According to Liverpool's Bido Lito Magazine, "Transition swims in front of you like a neon-lit nighttime drive through the streets of Vice City with Depeche Mode blaring out of the stereo".

'Transition' certainly has a distinct eighties electro feel but the band have given that sound a modern twist, with driving guitars and live drums, to create something incredibly powerful.

The band are attracting an ever-increasing following, thanks in part to having their music featured on UK televstion (Channel 4 and LFC TV as well as BBC 6 Music and international radio. Two tracks from the album 'Cameras in the Dark' and 'Neon Nights' have both been selected as BBC 6 Music's Tom Robinson's Fresh on the Net Fresh Faves.

The album is available as a digital download and limited edition vinyl from selected outlets including Dig Vinyl, Probe Records, Piccadilly Records and mail order via the band's website.

Release date January 12, 2015

Pre-Order William S. Burroughs 'Nothing Here Now but the Recordings' LP

In 1980, Genesis P-Orridge and Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson (then of Throbbing Gristle renown) travelled to New York City to meet up at the fortified apartment, known as The Bunker, of famed beat writer and cultural pioneer William S. Burroughs and his executor James Grauerholz to starting the daunting task to compile the experimental sounds works of Burroughs, which, up until that point, had never been heard.

During those visits, Burroughs would play back his tape recorder experiments featuring his spoken word “cut-ups”, collaged field recordings from his travels and his flirtations with EVP recording techniques, pioneered by Latvian intellectual Konstantins Raudive.  Throughout the next year, P-Orridge, Christopherson and Grauerholz would spent countless hours compiling various edits, each collection showcasing Burroughs sensitive ear and keen experimental prowess for audio anomaly within technical limitations.

By the time 1981 came through, Burroughs had relocated to Lawrence, KS in which to escape the violence and mania of New York City life.  It is in Lawrence that P-Orridge and Christopherson put the finishing touches on the record that would be known as “Nothing Here Now but the Recordings”.  The album would come out in the Spring of 1981 as the final release for the shuttering Industrial Records, brought about by the dissolution of Throbbing Gristle.  The album remained out of print until 1998 when John Giorno and the Giorno Poetry Systems included the album on a multi-disc retrospective CD box set compiling the majority of Burroughs seminal recordings.

Dais Records is honored to have worked with the Estate of William S. Burroughs to finally reissue, for the first time since its original release in 1981, a proper album reissue of William S. Burroughs “Nothing Here Now but the Recordings” in its original vinyl format to celebrate the centennial anniversary of Burroughs. Fully remastered from the original master tapes in a limited edition of 1,000 vinyl copies.

from our friends at NewOnVinyl

The Beautiful Letdown is the fourth studio album by alternative rock band Switchfoot. Released on February 25, 2003, it launched the band into the mainstream on the strength of two top 20 singles: "Meant to Live" and "Dare You to Move." The album was hugely popular and remained a staple on the Billboard 200 album charts for a considerable amount of time. The album sold over 2.7 million copies in the US  and was eventually certified double platinum by the RIAA.

The album won an Album of the Year award at the 2003 San Diego Music Awards. It was ranked #195 on Billboard's Hot 200 Albums of the Decade.

The album featured some of the band's most intricate work to date, and featured a departure from the lo-fi indie rock sound of their previous three albums. This shift to a more layered, heavier rock sound with occasional electronica influences can be attributed to the addition of long-time touring member Jerome Fontamillas as a full-time band member. Contributing more to the recording process by filling in with his added instrumental versatility prompted Foreman to note, "I feel like Jerome is a great team player. I mean the same thing where live he just kind of fills in, is the same thing on the album. He's just a wonderful guy to have around." The sound was also influenced by the fact that "these were songs that we'd played live countless times, songs that we'd lived with."

The score for NBC’s Hannibal might be the closest someone’s come on TV to soundtracking the experience of losing one’s marbles. That someone is Brian Reitzell, who’s composed and supervised soundtracks for Sofia Coppola, Rian Johnson, and Peter Berg. Reitzell released a solo album, Auto Music, earlier this summer and now has the original score for Hannibal’s first two seasons.

All of the music featured on the Hannibal LP’s hail from the first and second season of the series and have been sequenced in the chronological order they appears on the show itself, allowing for an essential listening experience as dictated by the music’s creator.

Each double LP will be housed in a deluxe gatefold sleeve, and Director David Slade has provided rare photography from his personal collection for the artwork. Each LP will come with a download card.

Both seasons are each receiving two volumes of music, for a total of four different LPs, and the variant colors are perfectly themed for the show and its content, including “Tannum Brown”, “Hemochrome Red”, “Travertine Grey”, and “Amarone Grape”, as well as standard black.

There will be 1,000 copies of each color, for a total of 2,000 of each LP in total.

We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes is the second studio album by indie rock band Death Cab for Cutie, released March 21, 2000, on Barsuk Records.

Death Cab for Cutie's first concept album, the album features a story about a ruined relationship. No singles were released for the album.

In 2011, guitarist Chris Walla reflected upon the album stating: "That second record, especially, for years and years has been my favorite ... As I try to figure out what it is about that record that I react to so strongly – we started recording it like twelve years ago – dissecting all those elements and trying to reverse-engineer what happened, I’ve learned so much about what I value about songwriting and about performances."

Jonny Greenwood's Inherent Vice: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Pre-Order

Nonesuch will release Jonny Greenwood’s soundtrack to Oscar-nominated filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson’s new feature film, Inherent Vice, December 15, 2014, with the vinyl to follow March 3. An adaptation of the Thomas Pynchon novel of the same name, Inherent Vice, which will be released by Warner Bros. Pictures in theaters starting on December 12, is set in the tail end of the psychedelic ’60s and stars Oscar nominees Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, and Owen Wilson. In addition to nine compositions by Jonny Greenwood, the soundtrack features “Spooks,” an unreleased Radiohead tune performed by members of Supergrass, as well as other recordings from the movie’s era. Additional performers include The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Neil Young, Can, and The Marketts, among others.

This is the third Anderson film that Greenwood has scored. Their previous collaborations include the critically praised soundtrack for 2007’s Academy Award-winning There Will Be Blood and 2012’s The Master, both released by Nonesuch. Rolling Stone said of The Master that its “visual poetry is matched by Jonny Greenwood’s haunting, hypnotic score.” The New Yorker described the music as “rich and inventive.” The Times of London exclaimed: “Jonny Greenwood’s score is superb.” Of the There Will Be Blood score, the Boston Globe noted that the “squealing, cicada-like strings of…Popcorn Superhet Receiver masterfully evoke the film’s apocalyptic vision of the West.”

Widely known as the guitarist for Radiohead, Jonny Greenwood also is a highly respected composer.

Rhiannon Giddens - Tomorrow Is My Turn + Autographed Print Pre-Order

Rhiannon Giddens, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and founding member of Grammy Award-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops, makes her solo recording debut with Tomorrow Is My Turn, due out February 10, 2015, on Nonesuch Records. (The vinyl will follow on March 3.) The album was produced by T Bone Burnett. Nonesuch Store pre-orders include an exclusive print autographed by Giddens and an instant download of the album tracks “Don’t Let It Trouble Your Mind” and “Shake Sugaree.”

Burnett first worked with Giddens when she performed last fall at a concert he curated at New York City’s Town Hall that was later broadcast on Showtime: Another Day, Another Time: Celebrating the Music of “Inside Llewyn Davis.” In the Huffington Post’s “5 Memorable Moments From the 'Inside Llewyn Davis' Concert,” the top spot went to “Dear Lord: Rhiannon Giddens. The chances are a good many people haven't heard of Rhiannon Giddens, but that's probably going to change ... Giddens performed two songs … and earned the night's one in-show standing ovation.”

Backstage, Burnett was immediately moved to ask if he could produce a record with her. “It was clear the first time I heard her at rehearsal that Rhiannon is next in a long line of singers that include Marian Anderson, Odetta, Mahalia Jackson, Rosetta Tharpe,” Burnett says. “We need that person in our culture.”

For her first solo disc, Giddens chose a broad range of songs from genres as diverse as gospel, jazz, blues, and country. In addition to the traditional “Black Is the Color,” tracks include Hank Cochran’s “She’s Got You,” made famous by Patsy Cline; Dolly Parton’s “Don't Let It Trouble Your Mind”; “O Love Is Teasin’,” popularized by the Kentucky-reared “mother of folk” Jean Ritchie; and Elizabeth Cotton’s “Shake Sugaree.”

Tomorrow Is My Turn was recorded in Los Angeles and Nashville, with a multi-generational group of players whom Burnett assembled. Among them are fiddle player Gabe Witcher and double bassist Paul Kowert of label-mates Punch Brothers; percussionist Jack Ashford of Motown’s renowned Funk Brothers; drummer Jay Bellerose; guitarist Colin Linden; legendary backup singer Tata Vega; veteran Nashville session bassist Dennis Crouch; and Giddens’ Drops touring band-mates, multi-instrumentalist Hubby Jenkins and beat-boxer Adam Matta.

You, Whom I Have Always Hated by The Body & Thou

The Body and Thou are bands with Southern roots that have been pushing the boundaries of heavy metal for over a decade. Both have maintained relentless touring schedules, a dedication to DIY ethics and aesthetics, and a commitment to push their respective brands of extreme music into previously unexplored territories. You, Whom I Have Always Hated is a new collaborative release that showcases both bands’ unique abilities to create music that is emotionally effecting and unrelenting.

On You, Whom I Have Always Hated, each band’s distinctive elements shine through and combine to create something more visceral than the sum of their parts. While the groups have different approaches to live performance and stylistic nuances, they share general creative ideas and have a history subsumed in themes of alienation, melancholy, and despair. They describe the new collaboration as “a twilight dungeon crawl exploring the winding, ruined halls of Mad King Duro’s Castle, best friends at your side, enemies crushed beneath your heels, mysteries solved, and treasures found.”

This is not a split album, but rather a collaboration between The Body & Thou. LP jacket has a black flooded pocket, printed inner sleeve, and free download card.

White vinyl edition is limited to 300 copies and only available via Thrill Jockey Mailorder!!

Blues-Rock Trio Will and the Won’ts Releases Track "Get Out"

New Single "Wake Up Clean"/"Get Out" Available On VINYL!

"Will and the Won'ts combine a bit of baby-boomer era rock ‘n roll, folk and country with the deep roots of americana. That isn’t to say it sounds dated, anything but. Their version has a modern edge which mainly comes through in the way they arrange their songs" (Write.Click.Cook.Listen).

The three members managed to find each other amongst the traffic, beaches, mountains, and bustling music scene of Los Angeles and combine a mutual love of influences ranging from The Avett Brothers, Jack White to Creedence Clearwater Revival.  While studying at the Musicians Institute, Will Risbourg (vocals/guitar), Andrew Bilotti (drums/vocals), and Gui Bodi (bass/vocals) found camaraderie beyond the classroom in 2010 and settled as a three-piece in January 2014. Shortly thereafter, the band recorded their first single "Wake Up Clean" and follow up, "Get Out."

The Soundtrack to the comedy drama St. Vincent (starring Academy Award® nominees Bill Murray, Melissa McCarthy and Naomi Watts), is an irresistible compilation of evergreens and newer hits – including songs from Bob Dylan, The National, and Jefferson Airplane. This 2 LP At The Movies release is a very interesting package: next to presenting the song soundtrack, we've also included the Original Score by Theodore Shapiro on a second disc. Each copy of the first pressing is individually numbered and pressed on blue marbled vinyl.

The soundtrack album includes classics from the 1960s and 1970s, such as Bob Dylan's "Shelter From The Storm" from the 1975 album Blood On The Tracks. Tweedy provides two songs: the funky "Everybody Hides" and the laid-back "Why, Why, Why". In between comes a contrasting classic, the straight-hitting vocals of Jefferson Airplane's "Somebody To Love". This was the band's first and biggest hit, a single from the album Surrealistic Pillow in 1967.
  • 180 gram audiophile vinyl
  • Including 2 inserts
  • 2 LP set contains the Original Score by Theodore Shapiro + the Soundtrack featuring Tweedy, Bob Dylan, The National and Jefferson Airplane
  • First pressing of 1000 numbered copies on (light & dark) blue marbled vinyl

Take A Look In The Mirror is the sixth studio album by American Nu-Metal band Korn, released in 2003. It is the first album self-produced by the band. Korn explained that they wanted fans to hear the music as it should be. They returned to a more aggressive sound as featured on their earlier albums, with guitarists Brian "Head" Welch and James "Munky" Shaffer mostly utilizing thick, heavy distortion and the occasional clean tones for contrast. The album peaked at number 9 of the Billboard 200 album charts and was certified platinum.

The track "Did My Time" was previously released as a single for the movie Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. The single debuted and peaked at number thirty-eight on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Korn's first top-forty hit in the United States. "Did My Time" gave Korn another Grammy nomination in the Best Metal Performance category. The track "Right Now" was accompanied by a provocative cartoon video animated by Spike and Mike.

The album also contains a reworked and re-recorded version of the track "Alive", which had previously only been released on the band's first demo, Neidermeyer's Mind. The track "Play Me" features rapper Nas, making Take A Look In The Mirror the first Korn album since Follow The Leader to feature such a collaboration. Jonathan Davis plays bagpipes on "Let's Do This Now", marking the return of a tradition that has previous to the album, only been absent on Untouchables.

  • First pressing of 2000 numbered copies on silver transparent vinyl

"Beyond good. Beyond evil. Beyond your wildest imagination." The 1986 animated feature film The Transformers: The Movie was based on the animated TV series by the same name. The film was directed by Nelson Shin, who produced the original Transformers television series, and features the voices of Eric Idle, Judd Nelson, Leonard Nimoy, Casey Kasem, Robert Stack, Lionel Stander, John Moschitta, Jr., Peter Cullen and Frank Welker. It also marked the final roles for both Orson Welles, who died just days after his last voice recording session for the film, and Scatman Crothers, who died months after its release.

Set to a soundtrack of synth-based incidental music and hard-driving metal music, composed by Vince DiCola, the movie has a decidedly darker tone than the television series. Stan Bush's song "The Touch", which prominently featured in the film, was originally written for the Sylvester Stallone movie Cobra.

The movie also feature other well known songs including "Instruments of Destruction" by NRG, Stan Bush's song "Dare", two songs by Spectre General, "Nothin's Gonna Stand In Our Way", "Hunger" as well as "Weird Al" Yankovic's song "Dare to Be Stupid". The Transformers theme song for the movie was performed by the band Lion.
  • 180 gram audiophile vinyl
  • Soundtrack of the classic 1986 Transformers movie
  • First pressing of 1000 numbered copies on transparent blue vinyl

Turkey Shoot Soundtrack Available Via DeathWaltz

The notorious 1982 Australian film, Turkey Shoot (Also known as Escape 2000 in the US and Blood Camp Thatcher in the UK) has long been considered the ultimate of Australian Video Nasties. Set in a dystopian future where a totalitarian regime imprison a group of ‘deviants’ to a high security prison destined for rehabilitation and social re-programming. The story involves the group of inmates fleeing from the camp controlled by the draconian warden, a sadistic alopecic henchmen and a bizarrely scripted lycanthropic carnival-mutant…shall we read on..? Produced by Antony I Ginnane’s F.G films (Patrick, Thirst, Snapshot etc…) together with British actor David Hemming (Blow Up, Fragment of Fear, Deep Red), the film was aesthetically influenced by the brutality and savagery of Italian sub-genre cinema, (ie Umberto Lenzi’s Cannibal films and Lucio Fulci’s Zombie films), as well as borrowing the central theme from the 1932 film The Most Dangerous Game. Scored by renowned Australian film composer Brian May (Mad Max, Patrick, The Day After Halloween), the predominantly electronic soundtrack hints stylistically to brooding horror-synth of John Carpenter, the mutant patchbay of Gil Melle’s soundtrack The Andromeda Strain as well as some of the sonic characteristics found in Italian B-cinema (Fabio Frizzi & Goblin). Pulsing synth oscillations and pounding percussion together with inspired sound design all encapsulate the confused and claustrophobic human big-game hunt.

Chain Reaction Soundtrack Available Via DeathWaltz

Described as ‘Mad Max meets the China Syndrome’, the 1980 Australian film The Chain Reaction is an often overlooked entry in the highly venerated Ozploitation Genre. A nuclear disaster themed thrill ride into early 80s Australiana and industrial paranoia. Sitting alongside Night Of Fear (1972) and Turkey Shoot (1982) in the outlandish canon of Australian B-cinema from the 1970s and 80s The Chain Reaction includes its fair share of gratuitous nudity, ocker attitude and souped up vehicular carnage, but also carries a skilled visual style and strong environmental message that sets it apart from its less cerebral counterparts. Composed by unsung composer Andrew Thomas Wilson, the soundtrack is a forgotten piece of 1980s electronic film scoring. A clash between driving electropop and the ominous dirge of John Carpenter’s The Thing and The Fog soundtracks. Layers of icy modular Synth and proto techno rhythms serve as the backdrop to the explosive biological-apocalyptic meltdown.

Gene Clark 'Two Sides To Every Story' Vinyl Reissue

Two Sides To Every Story, the criminally long out-of-print solo album from founding Byrds member, Gene Clark, finally returns to vinyl. 35 years after its initial 1977 release on RSO, High Moon Records re-mastered, 180-gram audiophile vinyl LP is presented in stunningly rich and crisp audio fidelity that will shed new light on this underrated, beautifully-crafted Gene Clark classic. The album was produced by Thomas Jefferson Kaye, producer of Clark’s masterpiece, No Other, and features an all–star cast of musical co-conspirators: singer Emmylou Harris, banjo-virtuoso Douglas Dillard (The Byrds, Dillard & Clark), Country violin legend Byron Berline, guitarist Jeff “Skunk” Baxter (Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell), and pedal-steel ace Al Perkins (Flying Burrito Brothers, Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones).

Love 'Black Beauty' Vinyl Reissue

Black Beauty, the never-before-released masterpiece by Arthur Lee’s legendary band Love is making its first-ever official release in any format, anywhere! Chosen as one of Time Magazine’s most anticipated releases, critics are hailing the album as an instant classic. Black Beauty is that rarest of rock artifacts: an un-released, full-length studio album, from an undisputed musical genius. It represents the missing link in a catalog that also includes Forever Changes, the seminal 1967 Love album the New York Times called “one of the most affecting and beguiling albums of all time.” With Black Beauty, Arthur Lee manages to combine searing ’70’s rock with gorgeous melodies and stellar songwriting – topped off by his most distinctive, snarling, soulful vocals ever. With unparalleled sound, and a wonderfully eclectic collection of songs, the album offers Love fans a rare glimpse into a previously undocumented phase of Arthur Lee’s career, while shining a light for new fans to discover the unique genius that is the music of Arthur Lee and Love. David Fricke wrote about the album in Rolling Stone: “Black Beauty might have been received as a strong comeback for Lee, a turn to steamy R & B, with heavy-guitar punch — if it had come out.” High Moon Records is honored to finally grant Arthur Lee’s wish for Black Beauty to be available to music fans worldwide.
  • 180-gram vinyl LP, packaged in state-of-the-art tip-on sleeve with 11” x 11” full-color, 28-page book with download card for High Quality MP3s.
  • Extensive Black Beauty essay by Ben Edmonds (Creem, Rolling Stone, Mojo), featuring all-new interviews with band members, colleagues and close friends of Arthur Lee.
  • Abundant, never-before-seen Black Beauty-era photographs by Herbert Worthington, cover photographer of Fleetwood Mac’s  Rumours.

Hell Militia 'Jacob's Ladder' Vinyl Release

HELL MILITIA are back with a vengeance! Recorded in Germany’s SOS Studio (SECRETS OF THE MOON, ASCENSION), “Jacob’s Ladder” delivers 8 stunning tracks of disturbing French Black Metal.

Since its founding in the year 1999 by lead guitarist T. Persecutor, the band has been a rising dark star in the underground scene. Now their third full-length “Jacob’s Ladder” bursts unto the world like a black supernova. The French masterfully achieve a unification of old school values such as a harsh and fierce yet accessible song writing with the new dissonant and ruptured sound which is especially explored in their homeland by bands like DEATHSPELL OMEGA or BLUT AUS NORD. This comes as no surprise as members of HELL MILITIA are also active in bands such as ARKHON INFAUSTUS, SECRETS OF THE MOON or TEMPLE OF BAAL. Taste the extremely bitter universe of HELL MILITIA filled with urban filth!

Transparent red disc limited to 200 copies!

Floor - Oblation + The Ladder / Diamond Daves Are Forever

The bonus 7" EP includes 2 exclusive tracks which are not on the album. FLOOR are back! In the wake of their self-titled debut album ‘Floor’ (2002), Anthony Vialon (guitars, vocals), Steve Brooks (guitars, vocals) and Henry Wilson (drums) present ‘Oblation’. Adding a dose of doom and a dash of drone, this new opus perfectly encapsulates FLOOR’s trademark desert rock feeling of shimmering heat, the pound and stomp of heavy engines, and a burning taste of diesel in the air. CONVERGE guitarist Kurt Ballou mixed the album at GodCity Studios (TORCHE, KVELERTAK, HIGH ON FIRE) and the mastering was done by Alan Douches (BARONESS, BLACK TUSK, MOTÖRHEAD). Lean back, crank up and sacrifice to the gods of stoner rock with this mighty ‘Oblation’.
