Arcade Fire's 2011 Grammy Award winning Album of the Year, The Suburbs, gets a deluxe anniversary CD / DVD reissue. The CD includes two new tracks (one featuring vocals by David Byrne) and an extended version of "Wasted Hours," in addition to the original album. The DVD includes the Spike Jonze film Scenes from the Suburbs, as well as the companion documentary Behind the Scenes from the Suburbs, and the official music video for "The Suburbs." The exclusive booklet features lyrics and 80 pages of photos taken during the film.

I found this article at, of all places at digitalmusicnews.com, and they bring up an interesting problem for the makers of vinyl records.
There haven't been any new pressing plants built in many years, which means that if the small increase in vinyl sales continues to increase, they could start reaching full capacity, (which isn't a bad thing!). However, it will get harder and harder to get something pressed on vinyl, and may even drive the prices up, meaning vinyl sales will probably drop at that point. (makes sense) The old machines do not have 'replacement' parts, so they have to be manufactured on site, just to keep some of these relics operating. read on..... (any vinyl manufacturers have a comment?)
Are The Vinyl Pressing Plants Worried The Vinyl Resurgence Is Just A Fad?
The simple version is that growing demand for vinyl will result in more capacity to handle that demand. Certainly makes sense over the long-term, though right now, it's just not that simple.
For starters, there are a lot of sticky production and expansion issues surrounding the recent surge in vinyl, including a deep suspicion among pressing plants that this is just a fad. And when it comes to capacity, there's a ceiling to consider. "What a lot of people don't understand is vinyl sales are going to get a lot slower before they get a lot faster," said Nick Mango of Limited Pressing, specifically part of a recent discussion surrounding Lyor Cohen's expressed adulation with wax. "There's only a certain amount of pressing plants on the planet. No one is making new pressing machines. Very soon plants will reach full capacity and vinyl will become increasingly hard to get pressed."

The iconic U2 360 world tour is officially over with the band playing their 110th show last night in Moncton, Canada. The band have been on the road around the world on the 360 tour since June 30, 2009; which took them to Turkey and Russia for the first time ever. The biggest audience was 108,800 fans at Stadium Azteca in Mexico City on May 14, 2011.

DREAM THEATER Announce Collector’s Edition Box Set
Progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER are scheduled to release their new album, 'A Dramatic Turn Of Events,' on September 13 on Roadrunner Records. Five Finger Death Punch Announces "Share The Welt" Tour With Hatebreed
Five Finger Death Punch have recently announced it will headlining the "Share the Welt" tour this fall. The tour is in support of the band's upcoming third album, 'American Capitalist, which is slated to hit the stores on October 11th, 2011.

Francis Scott Key was born in 1779. He was an American composer, attorney, poet, and social worker. He was the composer of the "Star-Spangled Banner."
The late Jerry Garcia (Grateful Dead) was born in 1942.
Also in 1942, the American Federation of Musicians went on strike. Union president James C. Petrillo told musicians that phonograph records were 'a threat to members' jobs.' As a result, musicians refused to perform in recording sessions over the next several months, although live, musical radio broadcasts did continue.
In 1954, the "Moondog Jubilee of Stars Under the Stars" took place at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn. Acts on the bill included Fats Domino, Muddy Waters, the Clovers, the Orioles, and Little Walter.
Alt-folker, the late Robert Buck (10,000 Maniacs) was born in 1958.
Also in 1958, Era Records released "To Know Him Is To Love Him" by The Teddy Bears on their Dore label and sends 500 copies to radio stations across the US. The song was written by group member Phil Spector, who was inspired by the words on his father's tombstone. Spector's father had committed suicide when Phil was 12.
In 1960, Elvis Presley was named Public Enemy #1 by the East German newspaper, "Young World."
Also in 1960 Billboard reported the findings of a Seventeen Magazine survey...the average teenage girl listens to the radio two hours and thirteen minutes a day and plays records two hours and twelve minutes a day.
In 1960, Chubby Checker's "The Twist" was released in the US, where it will become the number one song by mid-September. Record industry history was made when Checker's original hit recording re-entered the charts in the Fall of 1961 and by January of 1962, was back in the number one position. It was the first record ever to hit number one on two separate occasions.
Also in 1960, an 18 year-old Aretha Franklin made her first recordings for Columbia Records in New York. Her initial chart appearance would come over a year later when her version of Al Jolson's 1918 hit, "Rock-A-Bye Your Baby With A Dixie Melody" would reach #37 during a two week stay on the Hot 100.
In 1963, the first Beatles Monthly Fan Club Magazine was published. It continued until 1969 and at its peak was selling 350,000 copies a month.
In 1964, the title track from The Beatles' movie A Hard Day's Night topped the record charts on both sides of the Atlantic in 1964. The film was originally titled Beatlemania, until producers heard an offhanded comment by Ringo Starr as he flopped into a canvas chair and said "It's been a hard day's night, that was."
In 1964, Billboard Magazine reported that the harmonica is making a comeback in a big way thanks to its use by Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and Bob Dylan.
In 1964, Jan and Dean's "Little Old Lady From Pasadena" peaked at #3 on the Billboard Pop chart. Although they would place five more songs in the US Top 40, this would be their final Top 10 entry.
In 1964, rockabilly singer Johnny Burnette died in a boating accident while fishing at Clear Lake, California. He was 30 years old. Burnette is most often remembered for his two, 1960 million-sellers - "Dreamin" and "You're Sixteen".
In 1966, the Troggs accomplished the rare feat of having a Top Ten hit in both the UK and the US with different songs. In England, "With a Girl Like You" was a major hit, while in the US, "Wild Thing" led the Billboard chart.
In 1969, the three-day Atlantic City Pop Festival opened in New Jersey. It's the first such festival in the Philadelphia-New York area. Over 110,000 customers paid $13 to hear such artists as Iron Butterfly, CCR, Jefferson Airplane, Three Dog Night, Little Richard, Janis Joplin, Santana, Procol Harem and Joe Cocker perform.
In 1970, Chicago's "25 or 6 to 4" entered the Billboard Hot 100 where it will climb to #4. Many fans are confused about the song's meaning until it is explained that the tune was being written at 25 or 6 to four in the morning.
"The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour" was debuted on CBS-TV in 1971.
In 1971, the concert for Bangla Desh was staged to raise money for victims of famine and war in that country. The show featured George Harrison, with some help from his friends Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Ravi Shankar and some members of Bad Finger. The three disc live album from the show reached number 1 in the UK and number 2 in the US in 1972, as well as winning a Grammy Award for Album of the Year. The concerts, album and film raised nearly $11 million US for the impoverished people of the newly-independent nation of Bangladesh, formerly East Pakistan.
In 1973, 'American Graffiti' premiered in Los Angeles and became something of a surprise hit. The film, centered on a group of teenagers growing up on the West coast of the US in the 1960s, cost just over $700,000 to make, but has garnered an estimated return of well over $200 million in box office receipts and home video sales. The soundtrack album reached #10 in America and has been certified triple Platinum.
In 1974, the Carpenters' album "The Singles 1969 - 1973" became the first LP to be certified Platinum in the UK.
In 1981, MTV made its debut at 12:01am. The first video to be shown was "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles.
In 1987, the Grateful Dead's LP 'In The Dark' entered the Billboard album chart. The disc contains the group's only US Top 40 hit, "Touch Of Grey," which would reach #9.
Also in 1987, Los Lobos' rendition of "La Bamba" becomes the first Spanish language recording to top the UK chart. Ritchie Valens' 1959 version reached #49.
In 1988, a Cincinnati radio station, WCVG-AM, began broadcasting Elvis Presley songs and trivia 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The format would last slightly over a year.
In 1996, Bill Buchanan, who originated novelty records known as "break-ins" with his partner Dickie Goodman, died in Los Angeles of cancer. He was 66. Break-in records used snippets of Top 40 hits as part of a comedy routine. Buchanan and Goodman first used the concept on "The Flying Saucer" which went to number three on the Billboard chart in 1956. The following year brought the hits "Flying Saucer the 2nd" and "Santa and the Satellite". Goodman committed suicide in 1989.
In 2008, a half-hour Beatles recording that included the band cracking jokes and breaking into giggles while they rehearsed material in 1964 went up for auction by the Berkshire-based firm, Cameo. The tape sold for $19,600.
Birthdays today (among others) include Michael Penn (1958) and Adam Duritz of Counting Crows (1964)
The Long-Awaited Sequel to his 1975 classic out on September 13, 2011
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Alice Cooper's widely anticipated new album, Welcome 2 My Nightmare, will be released September 13, 2011, by Universal Music Enterprises. Recorded with longtime collaborator Bob Ezrin, who produced the original multi-platinum Welcome To My Nightmare album in 1975, the album picks up right where they left off, with Alice trapped in his own warped mind.
The original release is an all-time rock classic that spawned a worldwide theatrical tour and pioneering U.S. TV special, and certified Alice Cooper as a visionary trailblazer whose influence persists today in rock, metal, pop, punk, theatre, television, film and much more.
More than 35 years later, Alice and Ezrin have resurrected the horror and humor for a new generation.
"This is Alice's nightmare 35 years later," explains Alice, "Bob and I created this character and we know how to write for him. I play the part but we're not writing for me, we're writing for Alice. We kept the first Nightmare album very personal to us, on this one we found more humor and we were more open. This was our world and we want to present it to the fans. The original album was my first solo album after all those huge hit records with the original band and now that nightmare is exposed, this one can be a little bit more open. The music crosses all sorts of boundaries; we went where the lyrics took us."
There is an array of collaborators on the new album, including original Alice Cooper members Denis Dunaway, Michael Bruce and Neal Smith reunited on 3 tracks; global pop superstar Ke$ha, who affectionately calls Alice "dad"; and legendary Alice and Lou Reed guitarist Steve Hunter, who is part of Alice's current touring band and featured prominently on the first Nightmare album.
Musically, the album ranges far and wide, from trashing disco to garage punk, pop balladry to a rocking number, very much in the spirit of the Rolling Stones. And then there's the ballad "Something To Remember Me By," described by Alice as "the prettiest song we have ever released."
Glimpses of themes from the original album are intertwined throughout, each track representing a different aspect of Alice's nightmare.
From the opener, "I Am Made Of You," through the already established live favorite and first single "I'll Bite Your Face Off," to the surprising duet with Ke$ha, "What Baby Wants," this album is a reminder that albums just aren't made this way anymore.
And musicians do not play together like Dennis Dunaway, Michael Bruce and Neal Smith anymore.
"I wanted a '70s feel for 'When Hell Comes Home,' says Alice, "and I didn't even have to ask for it, it's just how they play and they did it live in the studio. When they got done playing the basic track, Bob and I just looked at each other, that sound is built into their DNA. We didn't need to go and fix anything. The way they finished was a little bit ragged, and that's the way we used to finish songs, that's what I like about it."
Co-writers on various songs include the aforementioned Bob Ezrin, Ke$ha, Dunaway, Bruce and Smith, plus Buckcherry's Keith Nelson, Desmond Child (who famously co-wrote and produced "Poison" with Alice), longtime collaborator Dick Wagner, current touring band member Chuck Garric, and film composer Jeremy Rubolino.
"That's my rebellion," says Alice of the more surprising guests, "I like people that don't belong and yet what they're doing works perfectly. I don't care where it comes from, as long as it's right. If you tell me something doesn't work, I'll work my head off until it does then shove it down your throat."
"I think a lot of my audience is going to go 'KE$HA!?', but she probably wrote the most wicked lyrics in the song – we had to rein her in. I like people to know that just because artists are put in a pigeon hole, that doesn't mean that's what they are. Give people a little room."
With Steve Hunter, one of rock's great guitarists, added to the band's lineup of guitarists Damon Johnson and Tommy Henriksen, bassist Chuck Garric, and drummer Glen Sobel, Alice has been tearing up venues worldwide on his 2011 "No More Mr. Nice Guy" tour.
Alice gave fans an up close and highly personal experience in June with a surprise performance at London's legendary 100 Club, when actor Johnny Depp joined the band on guitar. Alice showcased the powerful band that had blown away the Download Festival crowd the previous weekend.
This year, the original Alice Cooper group was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, and Alice was honored with both the Kerrang! Icon Award in the U.K. and the Revolver Golden God Award in the U.S.

Mention Jamaican music to someone who isn’t a fan and you can bet that a fairly predictable image pops into the head of your listener. Chances are this image looks something like the cover of Bim Sherman’s Exploitation:
Same old Rastafarian colors… Some guy with dreads… A title that refers broadly to political oppression or positive thinking without much in the way of self-critical awareness or irony.
For many people, this vision — of roots reggae and its deified lead singer — is the only face that Jamaican music has to offer. (To be honest, the Jamaican music industry, in its eagerness to capitalize on the popularity of this face, hasn’t done much to contradict it.)
Dig a little deeper, however, and you’ll find a dozen genres lurking beneath the tie-died surface of roots reggae.

Landmine Marathon Streaming New Song "Cutting Flesh And Bone" Online
Landmine Marathon has announced the band's new album "Gallows" is due out September 27th on Prosthetic Records. The "Gallows" cover art was created by U.K. artist Rob "Mid" Middleton, known for his artwork for Napalm Death, Extreme Noise Terror, Deviated Instinct (in which Middleton plays guitar), and more.

Foreigner Celebrate 35th Anniversary With Walmart Release

Foreigner will celebrate their thirty-fifth anniversary with a new multi-disc package in September that explores the band’s rich history with a few bonus surprises.
‘Feels Like the First Time’ will be available as a Walmart exclusive on Sept. 13, featuring two CDs and a DVD. The audio will also be available on iTunes.
The audio portion features two distinctly different album releases. ‘Juke Box Heroes’ collects new recordings of the band’s most famous hits, while ‘Acoustique: The Classics Unplugged’ strips things down with a setlist that features both the familiar hits and some unexpected choices as well.
A live DVD recorded in March during two shows in Chicago rounds out the package.

When I was small and taking the first baby steps into the world of popular music, it was a few vinyls that one of my uncles played on which I cut my teeth. Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ray Charles, Elvis Presley… he even had a Nana Mouskouri album. I actually remember the Nat King Cole album that he had—a 10-inch LP named Nat King Cole Sings For Two in Love (the slightly tattered cover—it was released in the early1950—didn’t show King Cole but a white couple who seemed to be out on a date). The eight or ten songs on that album, as on most of my uncle’s vinyls, were about love. I was seven or eight when I heard those records and quite possibly didn’t know what the heck they were about but they were an introduction to pop songs, jazz, blues and all of what shaped my later taste in music.
A few years on, I got to hear The Beatles and the Stones and Simon and Garfunkel. My father had a few tracks on his spool tapes of George Harrison songs—if I remember right, only the ones that had him playing the sitar. But strangely, music in physical form was not the way I began listening to and getting introduced to rock and roll and all the exciting stuff. It wasn’t records or tapes that you could actually keep in physical form but the radio. As soon as I was allowed to touch the knobs of the old Bush valve radio that we had, with its strange net-like antenna strung across the ceiling, I discovered two afternoon programmes—the weekday Lunchtime Variety and Sunday’s Musical Bandbox.
Haken have recently announced the band's new album 'Visions,' and have revealed the cover artwork and track list. The album is set for release in October. The band commented on the album's progress through two Facebook posts:
"Mixing. Done! All thanks to the mighty Christian Moos! What's that? There's a guest musician featured in Visions who also played on the soundtrack for The Empire Strikes Back?!"

In 1964, country singer Jim Reeves was killed in a plane crash when the single engine aircraft flying from Arkansas to Nashville crashed in thick fog. After Reaves' death, his widow continued to release his material well into the 1980s.

Also in 1969, Elvis Presley kicked off a four-week run at the Las Vegas International Hotel (his first live show since 1961). He reportedly netted $1.5 million for the shows. The menus included an Elvis special – polk salad with corn muffins and honey.
In 1971, James Taylor went to #1 on the US singles chart with the Carole King song “You’ve Got a Friend.” The song would go on to win the 1971 Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male. Taylor scored nine other solo US Top 40 hits during the ’70s.
Also in 1971, Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds had the top tune on the Cashbox Best Sellers list with "Don't Pull Your Love". Dan Hamilton, Joe Frank Carollo and Tom Reynolds enjoyed their first taste of success in 1965 with a group called The T-Bones when they scored the Top Ten hit "No Matter What Shape" that was used in Alka Seltzer commercials.
In 1971, a 22 year-old security guard was stabbed to death by an ex-convict at Forest Hills Stadium in New York just before a show by The Who. The ex-con, Kerry Flaherty, had allegedly been denied admission to the concert.
In 1976, Blue Oyster Cult's epic cut "Don't Fear The Reaper" was released (from their 1976 album, 'Agents of Fortune')a pure classic rock song if there ever was one.....
Orleans' "Still The One" was released in 1976 (classic example of pure crap.....).
In 1982, Survivor's "Eye Of The Tiger" sat atop both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Cashbox Best Sellers chart. The song, which was commissioned by actor Sylvester Stallone for the theme for the movie Rocky III, would receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song and go on to sell over five million copies.
Selena's "Dreaming of You" debuted at #1 on the Billboard chart in 1995. It was her first English album. Selena became the first Latin artist to debut at #1.
In 1999, Christina Aguilera scored her first U.S. #1 single with “Genie in a Bottle,” also #1 in the U.K. The song spent five weeks at #1 on the U.S. chart and helped win Aguilera the Best New Artist Grammy.
The iTunes Music Store reached 3 billion songs sold in 2007.

Mike Love: Beach Boys Planning New Album for 50th Anniversary

The Beach Boys are planning to commemorate the group's 50th anniversary with a new album involving all of the remaining members, although frontman Mike Love says it's more in the planning stages at this juncture and probably won't surface until 2012.
"Where we're at right now is Brian (Wilson)'s written some songs, I've written some songs (and) we're talking very seriously about getting together and co-writing and doing some new music together," Love tells Billboard.com.
According to data from the Entertainment Retailers Association and Official Charts Company vinyl sales were up 55% in the first half of the year. And while they still remain a niche product overall, ERA stats also suggest many music fans will pay a premium to buy music on good old fashioned vinyl.
A total of 168,296 vinyl records were sold in the UK in the first half of 2011, compared with 108,307 in 2010. Radiohead contributed 20,771 of those vinyl units with their ‘King Of Limbs’ record, while limited edition vinyl releases for the increasingly popular Record Store Day helped boost the overall sales of the format as well.
Commenting on these stats, ERA boss Kim Bayley told CMU: “Vinyl may still be a niche format, but it is growing fast. Whether it is the ‘warmer’ sound many music fans appreciate, the large-scale artwork of a twelve-inch sleeve or its sheer retro appeal, vinyl seems to be capturing the imagination of buyers despite the fact it typically costs twice as much as a CD containing exactly the same music. Much of the focus in the music industry [of late] has been on cutting prices, partly in response to the rise of internet piracy. The success of vinyl shows music buyers will pay a premium if we deliver them a package they really love”.

Hippiefest: Gary Wright interview

In 1976, when "Dream Weaver" and "Love is Alive" shot up the charts to the No. 2 spot virtually back-to-back, the rock world celebrated singer-keyboardist Gary Wright, formerly of the British band Spooky Tooth. Despite vocals reminiscent of Stevie Winwood and a look reminiscent of David Bowie, Wright was no Brit. He hailed from ... New Jersey.
Born in Cresskill and a graduate of Tenafly High School, Wright is coming home to perform on Aug. 9 in Red Bank, Aug. 10 in Morristown and Aug. 12 in Englewood as part of the Hippiefest tour alongside Felix Cavaliere, Mark Farner, Dave Mason and Rick Derringer.

This is a confession, not to you forgiving readers, but to my girlfriend. I just had to spend £122 on a 7in copy of Do It by Pat Powdrill – and I got a bargain

I have a confession to make. Not to you, the dear, sympathetic Guardian readership, but to my girlfriend, and possibly my accountant. On 19 July, at 1.18pm precisely, I spent £122 buying a 7in single off eBay. It's a purchase I had been planning in general for the previous 18 months and intently for the six days before I actually stumped up, and now it's over, now I've won (and how ironic that word feels at the moment), I feel an uncomfortable mixture of elation, guilt and stone-cold fear.
The record in question is Do It by Pat Powdrill, my favourite northern soul single of all time.

Digital music explosion leaves some music fans hungry for vinyl

When the man who heads one of the biggest up-and-coming cloud music services wants a serious listening experience, there's only one place he turns.
He drops the needle onto an LP.
"I have a dedicated listening room in which I only listen to vinyl," says David Hyman, CEO of Berkeley-based Mog, an online subscription music service. "The sound quality is incredible."
If that sounds like a contradiction, it's not. At least not to Hyman, who says "Mog subscribers should be happy that's what I hold as my standard."
While few would argue that digital music -- either on personal libraries played on MP3 players or accessed via cloud-computing music sites such as Mog, Oakland's Pandora or Lala -- represents the present and future for most listeners, that doesn't mean more tangible means of listening, like vinyl records, will die.
Especially vinyl. Call it a culture clash or an appreciation for a classic sonic experience, but lots of loyal listeners refuse to budge from the format that has been around since the late 1800s.
Metallica says on their website that on the week of December 5, 2011, there will be a full-on Metallica week in the Bay Area of San Francisco. The legends will be playing four shows for Met Club [their official fan club] members only at the historic Fillmore in San Francisco on December 5, 7, 9, and 10 to celebrate their 30th anniversary. These unique shows will include special guests and events, rare songs, varied set lists, odds and ends, and all the nutty stuff you expect from Metallica... fun for the entire family!

ZZ Top’s new album is now finished, being mixed, and will be released in the fall of 2011. Billy Gibbons tells Mojo magazine, “It sounds and feels like Tres Hombres, with a few elements of the Eliminator period thrown in. A pretty wide range, from basic blues to slightly more fancy stuff.
Songs recorded include “Flyin’ High,” “More Slower Blues.” “Chartreuse” and “Have A Little Mercy.” The latter is, says Gibbons, inspired by early B.B. King cuts.

Heaven and Hell Records to Release M-16 'Locked and Reloaded'
Heaven and Hell Records uncover another forgotten gem from 1980s New York. The competitive scene was full of great hard rock and heavy metal bands but only few would rise to the top and constantly pack out the areas venues, Schenectady's M-16 were one of those who did.
From the bands early beginning in 1981 as a local cover band playing metal standards from Maiden, Priest, and Def Leppard M-16 quickly built a reputation in the area. Every time you would scan the local papers and magazines M-16 would be playing somewhere and sure to sellout the place. By 1988 the band released their only album to date 'Locked and Loaded' a solid piece of hook filled melodic hard rock. By the following year the M-16 would disband, although the band would reform.
This year Heaven and Hell Records plan to release M-16 'Locked and Reloaded' for the first time ever on CD. The reissue is part of the 'Lost Relics' series and will be re-mastered and include bonus tracks and more.

MACHINE HEAD Post Tracklist and Cover Art For New LP
MACHINE HEAD is scheduled to release their new album, 'Unto The Locust,' on September 27 via Roadrunner Records. Brian Jonestown Massacre readies career-spanning singles collection
On August 30th, neo-psychedelic rockers Brian Jonestown Massacre will celebrate the band's 19th anniversary with The Singles Collection (1992-2011), a collection of tracks only previously available as 7" singles via A Records.
This includes “Convertible”, “Their Majesties 2nd Request (Enrique’s Dream)”, as well as from their most recent vinyl release in "There’s A War Going On”. Additionally, there are a couple of songs (“Thoughts of You” and “Never Ever”) the band recorded in 1993 under their Acid alter ego. Each of the 22 tracks on the two-disc set have been remastered and the release comes with a 24-page booklet. Check out the tracklist below.
An issued press release also reports that Brian Jonestown Massacre is currently recording a new album in Germany, which will be released in 2012.

This Time Next Year Releasing New Album
This Time Next Year have recently announced that they will release their second album, 'Drop Out Of Life' on September 27 on Equal Vision Records. The album was produced by New Found Glory guitarist Chad Gilbert (A Day To Remember, H2O, Fireworks), engineered by Paul Miner (New Found Glory, A.F.I., Atreyu) and mixed by Paul Leavitt (Circa Survive, All Time Low, Darkest Hour).
Vocalist Pete Dowdalls has said the following about the upcoming effort:
“Drop Out Of Life is our way of encouraging people to quit whatever brings them down in life and go find out what it is you love. If you hate something, why keep doing it? We're not telling people to give up; we're telling them to drop out. Life can be really tough but it's up to you to make it better. Be positive, always look forward, and do what you want.

Lanie Lane Records With Jack White For Blue Series
Lanie Lane has recently recorded two tracks with Jack White. The tracks will be released on vinyl and iTunes through White’s Third Man Records label, as a part of the Blue Series. Lane’s release will be availiable on the 23rd of August, featuring two tracks that contrast each other, the first is a sassed stomp number called Ain’t Hungry. The second is described as a wailing waltzing lament to withheld love, named My Man.
Commenting on the experience of working with White she said “It was an honour to be asked by Jack to record with him at Third Man. I was so inspired by the whole process and by how raw and instinctively everything happened. I got so much out of the experience and I’m very proud of the end result.”
Although "Dystopia", ICED EARTH's 10th studio offering, is not a concept album, founder Jon Schaffer admits there are unifying themes to several of the songs — and even an appearance by band mascot "Set Abominae."
"I've always been fascinated by the darker side of life," Schaffer said during a break from master tracking ICED EARTH's forthcoming CD. "Movies like 'Metropolis', 'Brazil', and 'The Matrix' resonate with me. The same for albums like '2112', 'The Wall', and, of course, 'Operation: Mindcrime'. Their images of a soulless, repressive society stuck with me over the years. It must be the sci-fi fan in me."

The Jesus & Mary Chain Catalog Reissued
All six studio albums by art-rockers The Jesus & Mary Chain will be reissued this fall via the Edsel imprint of UK-based label Demon Music Group. It appears they will go in chronological order, with 1985’s ‘Psychocandy’ and 1987’s ‘Darklands’ set to come out on September 19, followed by 1989’s ‘Automatic’ and 1992’s ‘Honey’s Dead’ on September 26, and 1994’s ‘Stoned and Dethroned’ and 1998’s ‘Munki’ on October 3.
Each album will be reissued as a 2CD/1DVD set, including B-sides, live sessions, TV appearances, and rare or unreleased material. The first two reissues come with 30 bonus tracks each, including the rejected track “Jesus Fuck,” an unreleased version of “Darklands” with strings, a 1985 acoustic John Peel session, and much more. Both reissues also feature 32-page booklets that “tell the band’s story in their own words” and also include contributions from Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie, who was a drummer for JAMC in their early days.

The Who Announce the Release of 'Quadrophenia: The Director's Cut' Box Set

After the 1971 album Who's Next, Pete Townshend returned to the "rock-opera" concept, so dramatically realized through "Tommy," with another ambitious double-album masterpiece. Based around the story of Jimmy, QUADROPHENIA tells the tale of a young mod and his struggle to come of age in the mid-1960s. The story also takes its influence from the band's early fans from the original mod era, and its themes of teenage angst and disaffection still resonate strongly today.
The project was intended to reflect the four characters of the Who and features some of Townshend's most inspired, personal songwriting—way ahead of its time in scope and purpose.
This is one of the most widely recognized albums of the Who's career because of its classic depiction of mod culture, its renowned imagery and the magnificent music and powerful performances.
The album is hugely significant in popular culture, influencing many other artists, musicians and film-makers – inspiring the classic 1979 British film by Franc Roddam and the U.K. "mod revival" of the 1970s.
"This 2011 revisit to the Who's 1973 'Quadrophenia' recording is inspired by current and continuing interest in the project," explains Townshend. "The Who performed a concert version of the piece at the Royal Albert Hall in 2010 for the Teenage Cancer Trust with excellent reviews, and the success of that event led to the prospect of a Who tour in 2012 based on the album. The last such tour was between 1996-1997."
The album is scheduled for release via Universal Music Enterprises in November 2011. The box set gives a unique insight into the creation of this landmark album and will feature a remaster of the original double album, Pete Townshend's previously unheard demos including songs that didn't make it onto the original album, an exclusive eight-track 5.1 sound DVD, a deluxe hardback book, previously unseen personal notes, photographs, memorabilia and other exclusive material that will be announced over the coming months.
Quadrophenia: The Director's Cut will be the definitive version of the album and a must for any self-respecting fan of the Who—and beyond.
To accompany the box set, double vinyl, a 2-CD digi-pak and digital versions will also be released.
Candlelight Records has confirmed October 4th as the North American release date for Absu's new album titled 'Abzu'. As previously announced, the album is part two of a planned trilogy of recordings from the Dallas-based mythological occult metal band. Mixed by J.T. Longoria (King Diamond/Solitude Aeternus), the album features the original works of Polish artist Zbigniew Bielak (Watain, Behemoth, Destroyer 666, Vader).

TRIUMPH’s Classic Breakthrough Album ‘ALLIED FORCES’ To Be Reissued as Killer Vinyl Package for 30th Anniversary
For the updated version of ‘Allied Forces,’ Triumph worked with legendary producer Bob Ludwig, starting directly from the original source material. The album art will replicate the packaging of the original vinyl, reproducing the 4-color UV inner sleeve with all of the original photos, lyrics and credits.
Pressed onto 180 gram vinyl, the release will also include a download card so that fans can have a digital version for portable listening. This download will also include a bonus video.
Triumph’s 1981 release, ‘Allied Forces’, was the album where it all came together for these Canadian prog-metallists – great compositions, great performances, and great album design…back when album designs mattered!
And now, fans will be able to take a highly welcomed trip down memory lane, as ,‘Allied Forces’ will be reissued as a “30th Anniversary Vinyl Edition” on Tuesday, September 22 2011.
The album’s original tracks are from the actual EQ’d masters (as prepared by the legendary Bob Ludwig), while the packaging itself will exactly mirror the original ’81 vinyl version (including the four-color, UV coated inner sleeve, complete with photos, lyrics and credits).
The record itself will be pressed on pristine 180 gram vinyl, which will also include a download card, so fans can download this rock n’ roll classic , as well as a free video, directly to their digital player.

In 1959, the Isley Brothers record their second single, "Shout", which will not achieve great chart success, but would sell over a million copies and become a Rock and R&B classic. The Isley's next four singles flopped and they would not have another hit until "Twist And Shout" in 1962.
In 1961, Bob Dylan performed at the Hootenanny Special which was broadcast as a twelve-hour radio special.
Peter, Paul and Mary's "Blowin' In The Wind" was released in 1963.
Also in 1963, the Newport Folk Festival resumes after a four year layoff with Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and Peter, Paul & Mary.
In 1963, with the US charts full of hot rod songs, Capitol Records sent disc jockeys a list of car terms and phrases to help promote The Beach Boys latest release “Little Deuce Coupe.”
The Beatles film "Help!" premiered in London in 1965. Critics didn't like the movie as much as "A Hard Day's Night" and even John later commented that "the best stuff is on the cutting room floor."
In 1966, Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker made their live debut as Cream at The Twisted Wheel, Manchester, England.
In 1966, Bob Dylan received serious neck injuries when he crashed his Triumph 55 motorcycle while riding near Woodstock, New York. He had just come off a British tour using The Band as his backup group. During his nine month recovery, "Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits" was released and The Band began work on their first album, "Music From Big Pink", that would be issued in the summer of 1968.
1966, Datebook published Maureen Cleave’s interview with John Lennon in which he said, “We’re bigger than Jesus now.” American Christians reacted with outrage, organizing “Beatle bonfires” and burning the group’s records.
An edited version of The Doors' "Light My Fire" reached number one in the US in 1967. Eventually, many radio stations would start playing the full six minute and fifty second album cut, which features a longer instrumental break. Despite its American success, the record could only manage #49 on the UK chart when it was first released, but reached #7 when it was re-issued in 1991
In 1972, Gilbert O'Sullivan started a five week run at #1 on the US singles chart with "Alone Again (Naturally)". The follow-up, "Clair" would reach #2 the following November.
In 1973, Led Zeppelin lost $180,000 in cash when a thief made off with their safe deposit box from two Madison Square Garden concerts in New York City.
In 1974, 32 year-old Cass Elliot, a one-time member of The Mamas and Papas, died in London following an appearance at the Palladium. A post-mortem the following day said that she died as a result of choking on a sandwich and from inhaling her own vomit. It's later revealed that she suffered a heart attack. She was staying at Harry Nilsson’s London flat when she died. Her biggest solo hit was "Dream a Little Dream of Me", which reached number 12 and was actually backed by the rest of The Mamas and The Papas. Cass Elliot's body was cremated and her ashes were buried in Maryland.
In 1978, "Macho Man" becomes The Village People's first Billboard chart entry. It will top out at #25.
In 1987, Ben & Jerry's introduced Cherry Garcia in honor of the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia.
In 1988, record producer and pedal steel guitar player Pete Drake died of lung disease. He worked with Elvis Presley, George Harrison, Ringo Starr and many others. He played on such hits as Lynn Anderson's “Rose Garden,” Charlie Rich's “Behind Closed Doors,” Bob Dylan’s “Lay Lady Lay” and Tammy Wynette’s “Stand by Your Man.”
In 2005, John Lennon's handwritten lyrics for "All You Need is Love", gathered from his music stand after The Beatles' final television appearance in 1967, sold at an auction in London for $1 million to an anonymous bidder.
