Donna Summer Dead at 63

Legendary disco diva Donna Summer has died.  In a statement, Summer's family praise the singer's religious faith.

"While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy," the statement reads. "Words truly can't express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time."

Summer gained prominence during the disco era of the 1970s, and released a number of albums that have reach gold or platinum status, including the multiplatinum "Bad Girls" and "On the Radio, Volume I & II."  Her #1 Billboard Hot 100 hits included "Hot Stuff" and "MacArthur Park."

Summer won five Grammy Awards and became a member of the Dance Music Hall of Fame in 2004. She has been nominated for inclusion into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
