M83 - M83

M83 is the debut studio album by M83, recorded in 2000 and originally released in North America on Mute in 2005. Produced by both M83 and Morgan Daguenet, the album is predominately instrumental, with dialogue samples from various films and television programs appearing across the songs. The track titles, if read sequentially, form a short story.

M83 has since gone on to release 2011’s Grammy-nominated double album, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming (which contains platinum single, “Midnight City”). M83 scored the soundtrack for the 2013 film, Oblivion (with Tom Cruise), the soundtrack to French film, You and the Night (the directorial debut of his brother, Yann Gonzalez), and most recently contributed the original track, “I Need You” to the 2014 film, Divergent. M83 is currently considered one of the top electronic music artists in the world.

Native Echoes - Beach Day

Beach Day - the name's more about attitude than genre. It's about the ease and breeze of their modern wall of sound. Their tall, bright merge of garage rock, surf pop and girl group sounds is inspired by nostalgia but powered by fresh verve, sitting pretty alongside contemporaries like Cults, Tennis, La Luz, Those Darlins and Dum Dum Girls. And while their native Florida may be in a state of perma-vacation, Beach Day isn't. The band will release Native Echoes on Kanine Records, their second album in two years.

The Fact Facer - Holy Sons

Holy Sons is at the center of his many musical personalities and is his longest standing project, acting as an outlet for some of his most personal and direct songs. In Holy Sons, Amos puts his restless imagination to work using a variety of inventive home recording methods to turn melodic slow-burners into multi-layered, atmospheric missives. While his methods and prolificacy provide a kinship with Sebadoh, Ariel Pink and other musicians who have offered countless transmissions from their bedroom floor, Holy Sons comes from the mind of someone who has internalized the minutia of 70s rock music and eschews the stereotypical lo-fi sound for a much deeper and more varied palate. The Fact Facer, his Thrill Jockey debut, bathes Amos’ thoughtful, and even at times philosophical, songs in technicolor darkness, and reinforces Holy Sons as his musical centerpiece.

The songs on The Fact Facer creep up on the listener, their fiercely addictive melodies unraveling slowly and purposefully. Jumping smoothly between many facets of Amos’ songwriting, the album does much to establish him as a talented multi-instrumentalist. From the lysergic leads of “Selfish Thoughts”” to the Danny Kirwan referencing solos of “Transparent Powers” and the skillful acoustic flourishes of “The Fact Facer,” Amos proves himself as adept and creative a guitarist as he is a drummer. It is telling that Amos has built up two Holy Sons bands simultaneously: one based in Portland and one based in New York. Wherever the wind takes him, there are musicians willing to pick up their instruments and follow his lead.

LP version is pressed on virgin vinyl and packaged in a jacket with spot UV gloss printing on cover and a free download coupon. While supplies last mailorder customers will be treated to a purple vinyl edition (LIMITED TO ONLY 500). CD version is packaged in a 4 panel mini-LP style gatefold package.

This is a pre-order for September 23rd street date.

In The Fall - Future Islands

Too many bands in the era of buzz and the blog are taken before their time. The spotlight hits hard and finds a group who has not yet developed, not yet put in the work to find their sound and hone it and make themselves better, and just as quickly they’re gone. Future Islands are not one of those bands.

J Gerrit Welmers, William Cashion and Samuel T Herring have been making music together since 2003, and as Future Islands since 2006, putting in the work. Formed as college friends in Greenville, NC, Future Islands relocated to Baltimore after becoming friends with Dan Deacon, an early and avid supporter of the band. They’ve released a handful of CD-Rs, tapes and limited vinyl releases, and their debut album Wave Like Home came out on UK label Upset the Rhythm in 2008. They’ve toured extensively in the US and Europe, including the Baltimore Round Robin tours and opening for and performing in Dan Deacon’s large ensemble.

For their effort, Future Islands have mastered their style, which Rolling Stone describes as, “adding punishing heft to simple pop melodies, making blippy electropop sound oddly confrontational.” Future Islands calls is “Post-Wave,” taking in part from the emotional fragility of New Wave and coupling it with the power and drive of Post-Punk. Their upcoming Thrill Jockey debut LP, In Evening Air, will be their first proper and timely US album release.

Future Islands’ music is spearheaded by Welmers, whose layers of synths and drums create the landscape for Cashion’s punching-strum bass guitar, that pulses and fights, creating noise and bliss. Herring, who has been called “one of the most magnetic frontmen in indie rock,” finds his space in between. Carving through the music, at times, with a whispering croon, and at others, with a deathly wail.

NOW AVAILABLE : A limited neon pink vinyl pressing of Future Islands' 2010 debut Thrill Jockey release.  Free download coupon included.  In stock and shipping now.

We're Down Til We're Underground - Give Up The Ghost

Deathwish, under exclusive license from Equal Vision Records, are proud to announce the reissue of "We're Down Til We're Underground" on vinyl format.

The album is packaged in a special Gatefold jacket with revamped artwork and each comes an over sized/double-sided poster, never printed before. The album has also been remastered specifically for vinyl by Paul Gold at Salt Mastering

"We're Down Til We're Underground" by Give Up The Ghost was originally released by Equal Vision Records on September 23rd, 2003. Produced by Jim Siegel (Blood For Blood, Slapshot) and Tim Cossar, "We're Down…" is true milestone of a hardcore album. Encapsulating the personal growth, strife, and struggle of the band members that helped to create it. From the first strummed notes of opening instrumental "(It's Sometimes Like It Never Started)" the album feels intensely personal and thematic. In many ways, it is as if we are listening to the beat of the open heart of the creators. Because of this, it's difficult to pinpoint any high point in the music and lyrical content. Every song on "We're Down Til' We're Underground" effortlessly carries intense emotional weight in all it's layers. After all, it's an album born out of pressure and pain more so than most hardcore records (past or present) will likely ever be.

Tilts - Cuatro Hombres

The St. Louis quartet TILTS return with 10 brand new tracks of killer rock and roll on Cuatro Hombres, with just enough spice to keep things nice! Guitarist/vocalist Andrew Elstner splits his time between TILTS and TORCHE and can sing like a mofo! These soaring vocals land atop catchy songs both heavy and melodic.

Once again, the band's drummer Ken McCray self-recorded this at Marmadook Studios, then had Richmond, Virginia engineer Ian Whalen (RAH BRAHS, TOMBS, LAMB OF GOD) mix the beast. James Plotkin (ISIS, CAVE IN, THOU) carefully mastered the final banger specifically for vinyl, and separately for the included high-quality digital download.

Rounded out by bassist Shawn Hart and guitar player Andy White, TILTS triumphantly deliver a seriously infectious sophomore album with 10 songs of "ALL KILLER NO FILLER" rock music! Like the debut LP, Tom Huck's brilliant woodcut artwork adorns the sleeve, with righteous pink/clear color vinyl inside.

Friendly Fires - Pala

Named after the island in Aldous Huxley’s 1962 novel ‘Island’, ‘Pala’ has been produced by a mixture of Friendly Fires themselves and Paul Epworth. The album was recorded over the past twelve months in various locations including London, St. Albans, Rye in Sussex, Yvetot in France, and New York

It’s set to build on the success of Friendly Fires’ eponymous debut album that was released in September 2008 and went on to sell over 200,000 copies in the UK, picking up a Mercury Prize nomination and two Brit Awards nominations along the way.

The artwork for ‘Pala’ features a beautiful parrot photograph from one of famed fashion photographer Sølve Sundsbø’s personal projects, while the album also sees musical collaborations with The Harlem Gospel Choir (on ‘Hurting’) and Holy Ghost’s Alex Frankel (who plays Clavinet on ‘True Love’)
