Pocket Full Of Kryptonite (Pre-Order) by Spin Doctors
This reissue of Pocket Full Of Kryptonite by SoundStageDirect is a special project for both the band and Seth Frank, President and founder of SoundStageDirect. Seth’s passion for vinyl started at the young age of 11 when he began working at the Princeton Record Exchange. It was in that very record store where a friendship between Seth and Chris Barron, the lead singer of the Spin Doctors solidified over a mutual love of music.
As the legend goes, Chris Barron went in to the Princeton Record Exchange in Princeton, N.J., when he was about 13 years old. He met 15-year-old Seth who at the time worked at the store which Chris thought was really cool. With $3 of hard-earned allowance in his pocket, Chris asked Seth, ‘What’s a really good album that’s like, cheap?’ Seth said, “Dude, ‘Live At Leeds,’ It’s a killer album.” And so Chris bought his first vinyl album for 99 cents, and walked out with enough money left over for a slice of pizza and a soda.
The two teenagers who bonded over their passion for music and vinyl records in particular are still friends today, coming full circle with the limited edition kryptonite-green vinyl release of Pocket Full Of Kryptonite. It’s very clear both men still share the same excitement about bringing music to people, each in their own way.
Pocket Full of Kryptonite, originally pressed in 1991 sold over six million copies worldwide and was on Billboard’s pop chart for an incredible 115 straight weeks. As a jam band in the vein of Blues Traveler and Phish, Spin Doctors built a grassroots following by playing anywhere and everywhere. After a live EP caught their early potential, they released this uncharacteristically tight debut album. Featuring several hits that could have appeared on a Steve Miller Band album, Kryptonite became an immediate frat-rock favorite. Thanks to a spotless production, the tight groove of "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong," "Two Princes," and "Jimmy Olsen's Blues" immediately connected with audiences who seemed to find singer Chris Barron's hapless hippie lyrics and goofy grin a winning combination. --Rob O'Connor
The Spin Doctors are currently on tour with all of the original members (Chris Barron, Eric Schenkman, Aaron Comess & Mark White).

Waking The Fallen: Resurrected (Deluxe Edition) (Pre-Order) by Avenged Sevenfold
One of the world’s largest rock bands Avenged Sevenfold presents, Resurrected, a new album experience unlike anything they have ever released. Avenged Sevenfold has personally curated this back from the dead look at their fan favorite, genre defining, breakthrough album Waking The Fallen. This rare new release includes 11 never before heard songs, 23 total tracks, new artwork, a never before seen music video for Unholy Confessions, and a 30 minute film featuring the present day band. This is a must own album for any A7X fan!
Lets take a closer look at this brand new content....
Two new songs, including the lead track Waking The Fallen: Resurrected, which had been lost to history before it was discovered buried deep within the original multi track recordings. Originally intended to make the album as a full song, it was ultimately reworked into a vocal free intro. Later the band drew inspiration from this lost song’s piano intro, building it out into their hit song Beast And The Harlot off of their next album City Of Evil. This song is a previously unknown link between two major era’s in the band’s career.
Four never before heard demos recorded by Thrice’s Teppei Teranishi including, Chapter Four, Remenissions, I Won't See You Tonight Part 1, I Won't See You Tonight Part 2. These early version demos contain alternate lyrics, melodies, and arrangements giving fans a unique and unprecedented behind the scenes look at the evolution of four of the band’s most popular songs.
Five live versions from some of the band’s earliest shows including Chapter Four (Live In Ventura), Desecrate Through Reverence (Live In Pomona), Eternal Rest (Live In Pomona), Unholy Confessions (Live In Ventura), Second Heartbeat (Live In Ventura). Very little live material from this era of Avenged Sevenfold’s career has ever seen the light of day.
A 30 minute documentary featuring brand new interviews from band looking back on the of the lead up, demoing, recording and touring around the Waking The Fallen album. The 30 minute film includes personal behind the scenes home movies and photos from the band’s earliest days. The original Unholy Confessions music video, which has never been seen by the public. This first ever Avenged Sevenfold music video has been locked away with the intention of never being released, but now the band is including this rare video as a tribute to their late drummer The Rev.
Expanded artwork including new photos and illustrations created by the original album artist.

CAN - 14 CATALOG ALBUMS RE-ISSUED ON INDIVIDUAL VINYL FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OVER A DECADE
MONSTER MOVIE, TAGO MAGO, SOUNDTRACKS, EGE BAMYASI TO BE AVAILABLE SEPT 2nd, 2014
Seminal experimental rock group Can will re-issue fourteen catalog albums on vinyl, which have been unavailable on the format for over a decade. The first four to be released - Monster Movie, Tago Mago, Soundtracks, and Ege Bamyasi – are regarded as some of the most groundbreaking works in rock history and are due out September 2nd, 2014, on Mute.
Can will also release The Lost Tapes as five individual vinyl albums, previously released only as a box set.
Can, founded in 1968 by Irmin Schmidt, Holger Czukay, Michael Karoli and Jaki Liebezeit, formed a group that utilized and transformed all boundaries of ethnic, electronic experimental and modern classical music. Regarded as one of the most influential avant-garde rock groups in history, Can were at the forefront of the German krautrock movement of the late 1960’s and early 70’s along with such bands as Neu! and Kraftwerk. Combing elements of psychedelia with classic pop and progressive compositional methods, Can’s music directly inspired major artists of the period such as David Bowie and Iggy Pop, before going on to shape everything from indie rock to electronica.
Can’s powerful influence has never diminished, and their mark is apparent in the bands who freely acknowledge their significance - from Portishead, James Murphy, New Order, Factory Floor, Public Image Ltd, Mogwai, Kanye West and Radiohead.
Earlier this year, Faber & Faber announced they will release a Can biography / symposium, curated by Irmin Schmidt. The biography will be written by Rob Young, and the symposium section will use Can as a starting point for a collection of stories, statements and interviews. For more information, click here
The 33 1/3 series of books have just announced that Alan Warner, a long time fan of the band and the author of the sleeve notes for the acclaimed Can Vinyl Box release, will release a book about Tago Mago in November. For more information, click here
Upcoming release schedule for the entire vinyl reissue series:
October 7th: Future Days, Soon Over Babaluma, Landed, Flow Motion, Saw Delight (inc CD)
October 21st: Can, Delay, Out Of Reach (inc first time on CD), Rite Time, Unlimited Edition

new releases from MergeRecords
Frozen Letter - Spider Bags
Formed in 2005, Chapel Hill, North Carolina’s Spider Bags were largely a revolving cast, with only Dan McGee (guitars, vocals) persevering through the various incarnations of the band. But during the 2011 recording of Shake My Head, the current lineup consisting of Steve Oliva (bass) and Rock Forbes (drums) was finally solidified. Building upon the foundation laid down by its predecessor, Frozen Letter rocks with the clairvoyance of three musicians who have spent a lot of time recording and touring together over the last few years. “When we started this record, we weren’t even thinking about it being released. We just did it to have fun and keep moving forward,” says Forbes. This approach allowed the band to push itself further out into the psychedelic frontier than ever before, aided by engineer/producer Wesley Wolfe. Recorded mostly live over the course of a few days, there’s an exhilarating urgency to the record, as heard in riff-driven rockers like “Back With You Again in the World” and “Chem Trails.” The band brings the tempo down a notch for “Coffin Car,” which finds them mining an ominous morbidity over one of their prettier chord patterns. “We Got Problems” comes on like a true acid trip, alternating between utter terror and unfettered joy. Featuring a heavy and repetitive pattern, a slew of effected guitars, and searing guest leads from Superchunk’s Mac McCaughan, the song encapsulates an entire Spider Bags epoch in under six minutes. Frozen Letter is the band’s fourth full-length record overall and first for Merge Records.
LP is pressed on translucent red vinyl. LP includes a coupon for a full download.

End Times Undone - David Kilgour
The latest album from David Kilgour & the Heavy Eights was recorded in his native New Zealand between 2012 and 2014, but that’s a bit misleading. In fact, very misleading. That span covering three calendar years suggests this might be one of those albums that was slaved over, with weeks-upon-months spent recording and then mixing until every minor detail was perfected. The opposite is true. End Times Undone took so long to finish only because Kilgour assembled his bandmates every four or five months, and then only for a couple days at a time. And when they convened, the tape was rolling almost from the start.
“We’ve become so obsessed with capturing the creative moment as early as possible when we get together,” Kilgour says of making music with guitarist Tony de Raad, bassist Tom Bell, and drummer Taane Tokona.
It’s the perfect way for Kilgour to operate these days, more than 30 years into a career that is equally compelling, consistent, and influential. From his first recordings with The Clean, the iconic band who remain active and whose legend deservedly grows mightier every year, Kilgour has had a distinct sound that has inhabited all of his albums and sounds fresh with every new release.
End Times Undone will be released shortly after a reissue of The Clean’s Anthology, a 46-track set that serves as the band’s defining document that can attest to their pantheon status. End Times Undone is a perfect companion piece to that collection that left off in 1996, and in many ways feels like it could have simply been the next album helmed by Kilgour instead of one that comes nearly 20 years later. That’s what happens when you have an artist so comfortable with his sound and approach that you just turn on the amps and start playing. —David Malitz
All LPs will be pressed on randomly colored vinyl. LP includes a coupon for a full download.

ANDREW LILES – THE MALEFICENT MONSTER
Massively prolific UK artist, and Nurse With Wound and Current 93 member, Andrew Liles returns to Blackest Rainbow. This new full length LP consists of themes, incidental music, bridging songs, interludes, creaks and groans created as imaginary soundtracks for imaginary horror films. 40 minutes of musical interpretations on a ‘horrific’ theme influenced by such maestros as Donald Rubinstein, John Carpenter, Fabio Frizzi and Ennio Morricone. The tracks cover a vast amount of ground including austere orchestral pieces, voodoo drums, torture porn, possession, cheesy 80′s soundtracks, Giallo, 70′s synths, mellotrons, flutes, piano and much much more. Andrew also commissioned legendary UK artist and graphic designer Graham Humphreys, the man behind the incredible original UK quad posters for Evil Dead II and the Nightmare On Elm Street series. Graham has recently worked with Death Waltz for their Zombie Flesh Eaters and their impending City Of The Living Dead reissue.
The LP is released strictly old school style, no digital download, in an edition of 500 in UV gloss finished sleeve, and pressed on 180gm slime green vinyl.

XL Recordings Celebrates 25th anniversary With Star-Studded Box Set
On 25th August XL Recordings will be releasing 'Pay Close Attention,' a compilation that celebrates the key releases and moments from XL’s 25 year history.
XL Recordings is a collaborative endeavour, and many people have contributed to its evolution.
In the song “Out Of Space”, Liam Howlett of The Prodigy provided a blueprint when he sampled Kool Keith of Ultramagnetic MC’s rapping these words: “Pay Close Attention”.
And whilst XL has never had any outside ownership, Gil Scott-Heron advisedme not to even consider XL “independent”; because everything is connected.
This compilation is an attempt to illustrate some of these connections.
Part 1 is the roots of XL; underground music, made for DJ’s. These roots are still growing.
Part 2 features some of the singular talents who have taken the label further than we ever envisioned. There is no unifying genre, and I’ll happily confess to aesthetic opportunism; hopefully the thread of originality is evident though.
We’ve never compromised. The rave music XL first became known for was known as “hardcore”; that spirit continues.
To show our appreciation for your support: thank you DJ’s. And thank you also to the retailers, writers and of course, ravers. -- Richard Russell, London, 2014
