latest editions to the CVR record collection:

The Best Of The Animals On 180 Gram Vinyl

In recognition of the 50th anniversary of the British Invasion, ABKCO Records will release clear vinyl edition of The Best Of The Animals on August 12. This title is now added to ABKCO’s Clearly Classic series, which saw the release of six clear vinyl Rolling Stones titles over the last few years. It will be pressed on 180 gram vinyl with original art. Lacquers were cut by Carl Rowatti at Trutone Mastering from high resolution audio sources mastered at Gateway Mastering.

Fronted by charismatic lead singer Eric Burdon, The Animals exploded onto the world stage in 1964 with their transatlantic No. 1 hit “House of the Rising Sun.” Straddling the line between hard-edged blues and Brill Building pop, the group from Newcastle enjoyed a swath of top 20 singles under the guidance of producer Mickie Most, including “I’m Crying,” “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood,” and “We Gotta Get Out Of This Place.” Recorded entirely within a scant 20-month period ending in September of 1965, The Best of The Animals includes all the aforementioned hits as well as timeless gems such as “It’s My Life,” and “Animalized”, renditions of Chuck Berry’s “Around And Around” and Sam Cooke’s “Bring It On Home To Me.” All of The Best of The Animals tracks were also produced by Mickie Most.

“For me the release of The Best of The Animals on vinyl is a journey back to a working world that doesn’t exist anymore,” said Eric Burdon, who is ecstatic about the upcoming release. “This is the way that all of those songs were originally intended to be heard. I am happy to see more and more young people discover the joy of putting on a record – and the elders rediscovering the thrill of the needle setting down into those grooves.” Burdon then vividly described the organic nature of the recording process in the 60s. “The Animals were a live, living band, coming off of the road and completing an album in two days and then going back on the road again. The moment was captured on quarter inch tape and now it’s returned to you in its original form, 50 years later. Enjoy the trip down memory lane!”
  • All tracks produced by Mickie Most, 1964-1965
  • The Best of The Animals was originally released in 1987
  • Mastered by Adam Ayan, Gateway Mastering
  • Lacquer cutting by Carl Rowatti, Trutone Mastering

Rolling Stones - Hot Rocks 1964-1971 (Vinyl)

It's the rare greatest-hits album that takes on a life of its own. Generally, best-of collections are superseded by updated retrospectives. Hot Rocks 1964-1971 is the exception to the rule: a classic comprised of classics. Originally released in December 1971, this two-LP set is the Rolling Stones' first anthology and one of the band's all-time best sellers. Upon release, it remained on the Billboard album chart for an amazing 243 consecutive weeks with the highest chart position reaching #4. Hot Rocks has been certified 12X platinum by the RIAA. The album carries most of the band's biggest hits; the 21 tracks featured represent seven years of dizzying growth. While the emphasis is on the hits, Hot Rocks also includes several iconic album tracks such as "Play With Fire," "Under My Thumb" and "Gimme Shelter."

This gives listeners a well-rounded impression of The Rolling Stones' music and their ever evolving sound during this critical period. You hear them change from a loud R&B-inspired rock ‘n’ roll band covering their mentor’s hits and making them their own, such as Erma Thomas’ "Time Is on My Side," to true musical innovators with breakthroughs like "(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction," "Get Off of My Cloud," "19th Nervous Breakdown" and, finally, into self-actualized, rebel-poets with "Jumpin' Jack Flash," and "Midnight Rambler." From "Time is on My Side" through "Let's Spend the Night Together," on to Sticky Fingers' "Brown Sugar" and "Wild Horses," Hot Rocks 1964-1971 never lets up! The album tracks were produced by Andrew Loog Oldham, Jimmy Miller, The Rolling Stones and Glyn Johns. Hot Rocks 1964-1971 garnered 11 Top Ten U.S. and U.K. hits and 7 No.1 hit singles.

The Posies Failure Available On Green Vinyl Via Omnivore Recordings

The Posies’ 1988 debut is back and bigger than ever!

Little did Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow know that when they dropped off their cassette to Scott McCaughey (R.E.M., The Minus 5), the clerk at their favorite record store (who happened to do A&R for the indie label PopLlama), that a power-pop dynasty would begin.

Originally released by the band on cassette, then issued on LP (with one track removed for the then-current time constraints), and later on CD, Failure set the independent music world on fire. Omnivore Recordings is proud to reissue this landmark album, complete with eight bonus tracks, including one available for the first time.

Housed in a digipak, Failure contains the original 12 songs, plus bonus material from the highly sought after and out of print 2000 box set At Least At Last, as well tracks from the Spanish only 15th anniversary edition—plus, one track recently located in The Posies’ extensive archives. The booklet contains press clippings and essays from 1988, as well as updated messages from McCaughey and the band.

This 2014 edition sees the original 12-track playlist restored and available on vinyl for the first time since its original issue (and cut by Kevin Gray). The LP (initial pressing on colored vinyl) also includes a download card for the entire CD program.

While Auer and Stringfellow have continued on—whether as members of the reunited Big Star, as The Posies and as solo artists—the journey began at Failure. Step back in time and hear the future.

Contains 8 bonus tracks, including 1 available for the first time anywhere.

upcoming releases from our friends at MusicOnVinyl

GRAND FUNK RAILROAD - CLOSER TO HOME

Produced by Terry Knight, Closer To Home is Grand Funk Railroad's third studio album, and was released in 1970. The album reached Gold record status the same year, making it the group's third Gold record in one year. The album's inside artwork shows a live photo of the band performing at Madison Square Garden in February 1970.

Closer To Home was the record that really broke them through to the commercially successful level of Metal masters such as Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Rather than rushing headlong into their typical hard, heavy, and overamplified approach, Grand Funk Railroad began expanding their production values.

Most evident is the inclusion of strings, the acoustic opening on the disc's lead off cut, "Sins a Good Man's Brother," as well as the comparatively mellow "Mean Mistreater."  But the boys had far from gone soft. The majority of Closer To Home is filled with the same straight-ahead rock & roll that had composed their previous efforts.  180 gram audiophile vinyl and gate fold sleeve

RUFUS THOMAS - WALKING THE DOG

One of the artists who defined Memphis Soul and put Stax Records on the map, Rufus Thomas is known for liking his R&B hard-edged, gritty and earthy. That approach served him impressively well on his debut album Walking The Dog.

In contrast to the sleeker, more elaborate production style favored by Motown, Rufus Thomas rejects Pop elements altogether and thrives on rawness on his hits "Walking The Dog" and "The Dog" as well as inspired versions of "Land Of 1000 Dances" (which became a major hit for Wilson Pickett), Lee Dorsey's "Ya Ya" and John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom".

The title track became his biggest hit. The song was covered by The Rolling Stones in 1964. Many other artists have covered the song, including Aerosmith, Roger Daltrey, Green Day, The Flamin' Groovies, The Sonics, The Trashmen and more.  180 gram audiophile vinyl and insert

THE TREBLE SPANKERS - HASHEEDA

Hasheeda  is the second album by Dutch group The Treble Spankers, released in 1996. Following the success of Pulp Fiction and an "easy tune" hype, The Treble Spankers got massive airplay with the single "Red Hot Navigator" on Dutch national radio.

These musical omnivores didn't  care a rap for trends and externals. They provided magnificent songs by diverse artists such as Kraftwerk, Herb Alpert and 2 Unlimited with new energy. Casually, they added a few classics to music history by means of their own brilliant compositions. Their music is rebellious, and as mysterious as the swamps of Sumatra, and expresses the mysticism of the American Indians.

Between 1993 and 1996, The Treble Spankers played over 500 shows in Europe. The band played a packed Roskilde tent at the Pinkpop festival in front of 10,000 jumping fans and the album Hasheeda ended up selling an impressive 20,000 copies in the Netherlands only. Former band members are now active in The Phantom Four and Los Tiki Boys. 18 years after its original release, the album is reissued on 180 gram audiophile vinyl with insert!

Ask Mr. Music by Jerry Osborne

FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 22, 2014

DEAR JERRY: A fellow in Wales sent me an audio disc he burned from a cassette recorded at a Connie Francis concert she did in the UK, probably not too long ago.

I especially enjoyed the portion of her show featuring a medley a some of her oldies but goodies. It is fairly long as medleys normally go.

Unfortunately the sender didn't provide specific titles of the songs. There are obvious ones of course, but also several that I can't properly identify.

It's a long shot, but can you find out more about this part of her performance. It begins with "Stupid Cupid" and ends it with a couple of her Italian songs.
—Pauline Chambers, Vineland, N.J.

DEAR PAULINE: Thanks to your excellent clues, this long shot was merely a short shot.

In order heard, here are the 14 tunes in what is indeed a lengthy medley, running over 22 minutes, nearly half of the entire concert:

"Stupid Cupid" (1958); "Lipstick on Your Collar" (1959); "Robot Man" (1960); "Everybody's Somebody's Fool" (1960); "Vacation" (1962); "Among My Souvenirs" (1959); "Don't Break the Heart That Loves You" (1962); "Carolina Moon" (1959); "My Happiness" (1958); "Together" (1961); "Who's Sorry Now" (1958); "Where the Boys Are" (1960); "Al Di La" (1962); and "Mama" (1960).

If "Robot Man" is one of the tunes you didn't recognize, that's because it was never issued as a single in the U.S.

Connie once explained to me that, for the American release of "Mama," she had to choose between two songs she had in the can: "Robot Man" and "Teddy." She wasn't real crazy about either number, but disliked "Teddy" less than "Robot Man," and that's why there was no U.S. single of "Robot Man."

We simply did not agree on "Robot Man." She thought it was silly, but I liked it a lot and felt it to be very commercial, especially at the dawn of the space age.

"Teddy," written by Paul Anka, did okay, reaching No. 17 on Billboard and No. 31 on Cash Box.

Meanwhile, "Robot Man" was a smash hit in every country where it was issued. In England it peaked on the New Musical Express chart at No. 3.

Because this concert took place in England, reportedly at the London Palladium, Connie acquiesced and included "Robot Man" in the set.

Stateside, Jamie Horton's waxing of "Robot Man" (Joy 241) became a regional hit in 1960.

As for the other stray in the herd, "Carolina Moon," this is the flip side of "Stupid Cupid," and also appeared on some of the national charts.

DEAR JERRY: Maybe if the television producers read your column they will eventually begin identifying the recordings they use, but that won't help me now. But you can.

On Showtime's hit series, "Nurse Jackie," the season two finale ends with Edie Falco (Jackie) saying "blow me," and a song begins as the credits roll.

Name that tune and I'll go get it!
—Ritchie Mescudi, Reno, Nev.

DEAR RITCHIE: Many folks refer to this song as "You Make Me Nervous," but it really is just "Nervous," and is by Melissa Etheridge.

Issued in 2010, the same year as "Nurse Jackie" wrapped up season two, "Nervous" is one of the tracks on the "Fearless Love" album (Mercury 602527326429).

Now go get it.

IZ ZAT SO? Edie Falco has been nominated 52 times, with 20 wins!

Among those are Prime Time Emmys; Golden Globes; Screen Actors Guild Awards; Satellite Awards; and even a Tony Award.

Most of these are for her work as Carmela Soprano on "The Sopranos" (1999-2007) or as "Nurse Jackie" (2009-2014).

It is a certainty that there will be more awards in the years ahead.

On another front, Edie Falco and Stephen Wallem (Thor Lundgren on "Nurse Jackie") headlined their own Broadway cabaret show in 2011.

Cleverly titled "The Other Steve and Edie," their concerts revealed a little-known fact — this Soprano can really sing!

Metallica 'Death Magnetic' (Deluxe Edition) On Sale

The deluxe vinyl edition consists of five 45-RPM LPs. 180-gram black vinyl in a Stoughton box that includes a lithograph as well as a bonus audio CD. Just as U2 re-embraced their essential U2-ness post-Pop, this album is Metallica becoming Metallica again - specifically, the epic, speed-obsessed version from the band's template-setting trilogy of mid-Eighties albums: Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning and, especially, the progged-out And Justice for All. That much is clear from the 90-second mark of Death Magnetic's first track, "That Was Just Your Life," where the band unleashes a barrage of James Hetfield's dutta-duh-duhnt riffing and Lars Ulrich's octuple-time double-bass-and-snare smashing. That long-vanished sound, as essential to Metallica as variations on the "Start Me Up" riff are to the Stones, is all over the album - you wonder how these fortysomething dudes are going to handle playing it live night after night. Pre-Order Barbara Lynn 'Here Is Barbara Lynn' on 180 gram Vinyl Via LightInTheAttic

To be a woman singing your own blues and soul songs in 1960s Texas was a rare thing. To do so while brandishing a left-handed Stratocaster and bashing out hard-edged licks was even rarer. Yet that’s just what Barbara Lynn did, inspired by Guitar Slim, Jimmy Reed, Elvis Presley and Brenda Lee. And it was a hit: her 1962 debut single, “You’ll Lose A Good Thing,” recorded with session musicians including Dr. John, gave her an R&B chart Number One and a Billboard chart Top 10 hit.

The success of that single took Lynn out on the road with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, BB King, Supremes, Chuck Berry, Guitar Slim, and The Temptations. BB King even wrote a letter to Lynn’s mother to tell her what a talented daughter she’d raised. She appeared at the Apollo Theater, she was twice on American Bandstand, and one of her songs, “Oh Baby (We’ve Got A Good Thing Goin’)” was covered by The Rolling Stones.

Though she was a precocious performer, hers is a talent that came to full bloom on Here Is Barbara Lynn, her 1968 album produced by Huey P. Meaux and originally released on Atlantic Records. The record was conceived as an introduction of Lynn’s prodigious talents, her deeply felt guitar playing, her gutsy soulful singing skills, and her songwriting prowess. It collected her early hit and a raft of new songs, each packed with Lynn’s passion and fire. Yet the introduction to her world–now reissued by Light In The Attic–largely proved to be her swansong. She married in 1970, aged 28, had three children, and largely retired from the music industry for most of the ‘70s and ‘80s. Now touring again, she’s amused to think of her 46 year-old album gaining new fans. “I hear this album, and it seems like… it seems like the old times to me,” she says. "I don’t know, it’s strange to know it’s coming out again. It is going to be a wild, first time thing for me, like going back in time. But I’m excited to see what happens.”

•24bit / 96kHz remastering from original 1/4” tapes
•Liner notes by Jessica Hundley interviewing Barbara, plus rare archive photographs
•180gram LP housed in an expanded deluxe Stoughton gatefold “Tip-On” jacket

Sub Pop to Reissue Pre-Shins Band Flake Music's "When You Land Here, It’s Time to Return"

The Shins have left an indelible mark on the history of music, but before The Shins, James Mercer founded Flake Music in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1992 with Neal Langford on guitar, Phil Higgs and then Marty Crandall on bass and Jesse Sandoval on drums.  Flake Music was a collaborative affair with each member contributing to the songwriting process. From 1992 to 1997, Flake Music released several singles before releasing When You Land Here, It's Time To Return in 1997. Upon the album’s release, Flake Music began touring largely due to support from Modest Mouse, amongst other bands. The rest, as they say, is history (Oh, Inverted World, Chutes Too Narrow, Wincing the Night Away, Port of Morrow, Broken Bells, et cetera).

Now, in 2014, Sub Pop is exceedingly proud to reissue this somewhat forgotten, but important record. Pre-order When You Land Here, It's Time To Return, from Sub Pop on vinyl here, and receive the limited, colored-vinyl Loser Edition of the record on orange vinyl. Also, all pre-orders receive an instant download of the track “Spanway Hits” and access to a full-album stream 1-month prior to street date!

Job for a Cowboy to Release "Sun Eater" November 11th

Job for a Cowboy have wrapped up music and art on their fourth full length album, "Sun Eater." Along with producer Jason Suecof, vocalist Jonny Davy, guitarists Al Glassman and Tony Sannicandro, bassist Nick Schendzielos, and session drummer Danny Walker have crafted a cerebral and accomplished piece of technical death metal. Job for a Cowboy wrapped up touring in 2013 as part of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival that summer. Following that performance, the band collectively decided to sharpen their focus and set an intent on cooking up a record that encompassed their full dynamic range of talent. The group had all agreed on the main course being a desire for futuristic tones, a wider spectrum of textures and tempos, and an emphasis on slightly more ancestral song construction. The result, "Sun Eater," does not just sound like a new record, it sounds like an entirely new band.

Sun Eater will be available via Metal Blade Records on November 11th in North America and November 7th/10th in Europe/UK

Vinyl Record News & Music Notes

from our friends at NewOnVinyl

MR. BUNGLE - MR. BUNGLE

Mr. Bungle is the eponymous debut studio album album by American band Mr. Bungle, released in 1991. The album contains many genre shifts which are typical of the band, and helped increase the band’s popularity, gaining them a reasonable following and fanbase.

Critics deem the album a ‘dizzying, disconcerting, schizophrenic tour through just about any rock style the group can think of, hopping from genre to genre without any apparent rhyme or reason, and sometimes doing so several times in the same song.’ Mike Patton’s lyrics are even more bizarrely humorous than those he used in Faith No More, and they’re also less self-censored, as titles like “Squeeze Me Macaroni,” “My Ass Is on Fire,” and “The Girls of Porn” indicate. This is a difficult, not very accessible record, and the band wouldn’t have it any other way.

Incredibly, the original vinyl version of Mr. Bungle was pressed on a single LP, which – with an album duration of 75 minutes – had a rather dull dynamic sound as a result. For the Music On Vinyl version, we’ve added another LP side to give the music more space to breathe. To top it off, it boasts a unique etch on the D-side!

DAVID BOWIE - PETER & THE WOLF

David Bowie Narrates Prokofiev’s Peter And The Wolf (1978) is a classical music album containing David Bowie’s narration of Sergei Prokofiev’s 1936 composition Peter And The Wolf. The music is performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy. The album reached number 136 on the US Pop Albums chart.

Side One contains the narration by David Bowie of public domain material originally written by Prokofiev. The second side of this LP features Eugene Ormandy conducting Benjamin Britten’s Young Person’s Guide To The Orchestra with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Ormandy and the aforementioned musicians from Philly also back up Bowie on side one.

Critics lauded the album, saying Bowie ‘found his most charming guise since Hunky Dory.’ He tells the well-known fable with his usual eloquence and style, and gives instructions at the beginning for kids to understand how the music corresponds to characters in the story. The accompaniment from the Philadelphia Orchestra is first rate.

The Music On Vinyl re-release includes detailed liner notes on the project by Mary Campbell, specifically geared to “introduce children to the sounds of the individual instruments in the symphony orchestra.”

Both Prokofiev and Britten wrote their respective pieces with this aim in mind.

Only 1500 on Colored vinyl. Including Insert.

Pink Floyd The Endless River Pre-Order Available NOW

The Endless River represents a return to the creative principles that informed the writing process that produced Pink Floyd classics like Echoes, Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Animals.

In early 1993, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright set up their equipment in their own Britannia Row Studios in Islington and created more than hundred pieces of music by jamming together, interacting with each other's performances and recording the results.

They then honed the pieces at David's Astoria floating studio, played them live for 2 days at Olympic Studios in Barnes with an extended lineup (Guy Pratt on bass, Jon Carin on keyboards and Gary Wallis on percussion). After that, the core trio returned to Astoria, and worked further on the compositions, alongside co-producer Bob Ezrin, refining the structure, tempos and arrangements. The result, after lyrics and vocals were added, was the 12 million selling 'Division Bell' album.

Old 97′s 'Too Far To Care'

When the Old 97’s got together in Dallas, Texas, in 1993, bands like The Jayhawks, Uncle Tupelo, Whiskeytown, and Drive-By Truckers were already picking up their guitars and makin’ records. Once enough of these sorts of bands started gracing clubs across the country, the folks who pay attention to musical trends started citing them collectively as an emerging movement. Critics called their music “alt-country” and praised bands like the Old 97’s for their attention to songwriting craft and sweaty rockin’ shows. Since then, the Old 97’s have made their way through nine albums, a few compilations, and numerous legendary live shows, all while maintaining their original line-up.

This year, the Old 97’s are celebrating the 15th Anniversary of their major label debut, Too Far To Care, with an anniversary tour that begins in late August and runs through October. Each show will feature the album performed live, from start to finish, with a second set of more favorites.

Omnivore Recordings will honor the 15th Anniversary of Too Far To Care with a series of special editions. Produced by Wally Gagel (Folk Implosion, Sebadoh, etc.) and featuring guest artists, Jon Rauhouse and Exene Cervenka, Too Far To Care has become a classic of the alt-country genre. The 2-CD set includes the remastered original album plus four session outtakes on disc one and a second disc of original pre-album demos featuring some never-before-heard Old 97’s songs! Additionally, a 2-LP set of the original album, makes its vinyl debut, with the four session outtakes, which are also on disc one of the CD. The first pressing of 1,500 will be released as a limited edition on translucent aqua-colored vinyl with an open-ended black vinyl pressing to follow.

A second single-LP and digital album, called They Made A Monster: The Too Far To Care Demos, carries all the demos from disc two of the CD. This album will have a first-run, limited-edition pressing of 1,500 on translucent yellow vinyl, with an open-ended black vinyl pressing to follow. The demos album is also available separately as a digital album.

ANDREW LILES -  THE EQUESTIAN VORTEX

Death Waltz Recording Company in association with director Peter Strickland and audio historian Andrew Liles are proud to present the world premiere release of a true classic of Italian cinema: the 1977 giallo THE EQUESTRIAN VORTEX. A tale of a coven of witches presiding under a riding academy, the film has been hailed by both critics and detractors as one of the most disturbing pictures ever made, with much of the credit going to the film’s soundtrack. Supervised by director Giancarlo Santini and created by sound engineer Gilderoy, THE EQUESTRIAN VORTEX is less a score and more a journey into the unconscious, where ghosts swirl with ethereal drones as screams echo into the night. Adding to this is the conspiratorial dialogue from actresses Silvia, Claudia, and Elisa, reading bizarre incantations that unleash the full horror of what lies beneath. We dare you to come out unscathed from the bloodcurdling terror that is THE EQUESTRIAN VORTEX.

Pre-Order Wampire Bazaar Ltd. Edition Vinyl

Early Bird Edition limited to 300 on 180-Gram Purple vinyl.

Well would you take a look at that -- Wampire's new album Bazaar was pressed on purple vinyl and looks incredible!

The music in the grooves is even better, offering listeners a variety of unexpected and alluring sonic flavors over the course of its nine tracks -- ranging from raucous riffs ("Bad Attitude") to seductive sax ("Wizard Staff") to charmingly catchy choruses ("The Amazing Heart Attack").

Following the release of their debut album Curiosity in 2013, Wampire went from a duo most accustomed to playing house parties around their hometown of Portland to a five-piece band performing in venues all over the world with groups such as Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Foxygen, and Smith Westerns.

That 12-month span saw Wampire play more shows in more cities, countries, and continents than in all their previous years together combined -- a nearly non-stop barrage of new and memorable experiences that, above all else, forced the band members to become more fully immersed in music than at any other time in their lives.

As a result, when founding members and primary songwriters Rocky Tinder and Eric Phipps returned home at the tail end of the year, they immediately dove into the process of working on a new album in order to capitalize on the creative energy that had been steadily amassing during their days, weeks, and months on the road.

Recorded with trusted producer Jacob Portrait (of Unknown Mortal Orchestra), Bazaar is available on CD, tape, and limited to 300 on the beautiful purple wax!

Vinyl Record News & Music Notes

CVR blog picks of the week:

Deep Purple - Concerto for Group and Orchestra (2002 Remix/Remaster)

Box set, Original recording remastered

Deep Purple survived a seemingly endless series of lineup changes and a dramatic mid-career shift from grandiose progressive rock to ear-shattering heavy metal to emerge as a true institution of the British hard rock community; once credited in The Guinness Book of World Records as the globe's loudest band, their revolving-door roster launched the careers of performers including Ritchie Blackmore, David Coverdale, and Ian Gillan.

Despite continuing lineup upheavals, Deep Purple remained active well into the 21st century. The late '90s and early 2000s also saw the release of many archival releases and collections preserving the band's enduring legacy (Machine Head's 25th anniversary, Friends & Relatives, Rhino's The Very Best Of, and Days May Come and Days May Go: The 1975 California Rehearsals), as well as a slew of DVDs (Total Abandon: Live Australia 1999, In Concert with the London Symphony Orchestra, Bombay Calling, and New Live & Rare). The impressive and timeless sounding Now What?!, produced by Bob Ezrin, appeared early in 2013.

Led Zeppelin I (Deluxe Edition Remastered Vinyl)

Original recording remastered

John Bonham, John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant came together in 1968 as Led Zeppelin. Over the next decade, the band would become one of the most influential, innovative and successful groups in modern music, selling more than 300 million albums worldwide. Their songs are some of the most celebrated in rock n roll history that, to this day, resonate with fans young and old around the globe. Still, no matter how many times you may have listened to their music, you ve never heard Led Zeppelin like this before.

With the 2014 release of deluxe editions of Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II, & Led Zeppelin III, the band will launch an extensive reissue program of all nine of its studio albums in chronological order, each remastered by guitarist and producer Jimmy Page. Led Zeppelin will also open its vaults to share dozens of unheard studio and live recordings, with each album featuring a second disc of companion audio comprised entirely of unreleased music related to that album.

"The material on the companion discs presents a portal to the time of the recording of Led Zeppelin, " says Page. "It is a selection of work in progress with rough mixes, backing tracks, alternate versions, and new material recorded at the time."

The Misfits - DEA.D. ALIVE!

The raw ferocity of the legendary Misfits captured DEA.D. ALIVE! in concert on All Hallows' Eve, in the center of Times Square, New York City! With select tracks from the band's encore set at their hometown show in NJ added for good measure, DEA.D. ALIVE! is an audio Molotov cocktail guaranteed to have bonfires burning bright with pumpkin faces, day or night, all year round. Speakers will virtually melt as a torrential downpour of "Devil's Rain" engulfs the senses, catapulting you front row center into a jam-packed house of horrors. The diverse set of modern day Misfits classics included range from current hits like "Land of the Dead" and "Curse of the Mummy's Hand" on through all-new live versions of earlier-era material.

Deathconsciousness - Have a Nice Life

Have a Nice Life released their debut double-album Deathconsciousness in 2008 to a whimper and critical non-interest; six years later, the band followed it up with 2014’s stunner The Unnatural World. In the meantime, Deathconsciousness has become a cult classic whose seamless blend of shoegaze, postpunk, new wave, industrial and noise influences inspires fanatic obsession. Now, longtime Have a Nice Life collaborator The Flenser reissues Deathconsciousness on colored vinyl with deluxe packaging. The band commented, “Working with Flenser lets us keep things comfortable on our end, while also pressing enough copies to actually meet the need and not creating an artificially inflated collector’s market, as happened with some of our past releases.”

Rhythmic, primal and expansive, Deathconsciousness offers a meditation on death, loss and unrequited love, with repeated listens revealing new layers of depth and meaning. The Flenser’s reissue is accompanied by a 75-page booklet detailing the dark and forgotten history of the Antiochean cult—an engrossing narrative that blurs the lines between liner notes, novella and academic text.

The Man Upstairs - Robyn Hitchcock

The Man Upstairs sees psychedelic troubadour Robyn Hitchcock uniting with legendary producer Joe Boyd (Nick Drake, Fairport Convention, R.E.M.) for one of the most unique outings of his already quite distinctive career. The album – which arrives just one short year after 2013’s acclaimed Love From London – sees the British singer/songwriter musing on mortality, masculinity, and the impossibility of forever via an unexpected intermingling of self-penned originals and “songs I wished I’d written.” Modern standards like The Doors’ “The Crystal Ship” and The Psychedelic Furs’ “The Ghost In You” are reimagined as stark and melancholy folk ballads, and then set to powerful effect alongside haunting new songs like the plaintive “Recalling The Truth.” Hitchcock’s 20th solo studio recording – give or take a few outtake, demo, and rarities compilations – The Man Upstairs is a remarkable portrait of an artist raging quietly against the dying of the proverbial light, even though that light may well be the 9:35 to Winchester coming directly at him.

KANSAS - LEFTOVERTURE

Leftoverture is the fourth album by American rock band Kansas, released in 1976. With Steve Walsh taking a back seat on the production of material, Kerry Livgren stepped up and his compositions retained much of the classically inspired complexity of Livgren's previous work. The album begins with the hit single "Carry On Wayward Son". Kerry Livgren wrote the song as a sequel to the final song, "The Pinnacle", from the previous album, Masque.

Rolling Stone called Leftoverture Kansas's best album to date, and said that it 'warrants Kansas a spot right alongside Boston and Styx as one of the fresh new American bands who combine hard-driving group instrumentation (with a dearth of flashy solos) with short, tight melody lines and pleasant singing.'

2Cellos - 2Cellos

Young Croatian cellists Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, together known as 2CELLOS, have achieved sensational success by taking the cello to a new level. Their playing style has broken down the boundaries between different genres of music, from classical and film music to Pop and Rock. 2CELLOS have no limits when it comes to performing live and are equally as impressive when playing Bach and Vivaldi as they are when rocking out AC/DC. Their debut album is a thrilling collection of chart-topping Rock and Pop songs performed in their signature style.

2CELLOS rose to fame in 2011 when their version of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" took the world by storm. The YouTube video became a massive viral sensation leading to a record deal with Sony Masterworks and an invitation to join Sir Elton John on his worldwide tour. The song charted at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 Digital Songs Chart and landed the 2CELLOS' debut album in the Top 100.

In addition to many sold out solo tours (US, Japan, Europe) and collaborations with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queens of the Stone Age and George Michael, the duo have also appeared on major TV shows such as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Bachelor and many others. Together with the Chinese classical superstar pianist Lang Lang, they appeared at the CCTV New Year's Gala for more than 1 billion viewers.

THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS - FLOOD

Flood is the third studio album by Brooklyn-based Alternative Rock duo They Might Be Giants. Originally released in 1990, the album is generally considered to be the band's definitive release, as it is their best-selling and most recognizable album.

Despite minimal stylistic and instrumental differences from previous releases, Flood is distinguished by contributions from seasoned producers Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley, who as a team worked with artists like Morrissey, Elvis Costello and Madness.

The critically acclaimed album generated three radio singles: "Birdhouse In Your Soul", "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)", and "Twisting".  Other promotion for Flood included TV appearances, promotional videos and an international tour.

Zodiac - Sonic Child

"SONIC CHILD" the new record from Germany’s Blues Rock leaders ZODIAC is mixed, mastered and sounds amazing. Martin Meinschäfer (Megaphon Tonstudios) comments about the recordings: "There is some massive energy coming out of the speakers! In terms of production technology there where no boundaries. The game was: awesome wins! It didn't matter if it was an old deluxe guitar sound or a moog solo. It had to give the song something special, an organic sound and it had to reflect the unconditional love for music. Just the right level of natural room is again featured in the production as it did in the late 60ies and early 70ies records!”

Vocalist & Lead Guitarist Nick Van Delft comments, “The idea behind SONIC CHILD is actually very simple: As a child, you hear music in its purest form. You do this without caring about a certain image, without looking at the band pictures, without thinking about fancy clothes or any other parameters; you just listen to the music and create your own vision of it. Nowadays, it seems for many bands that music isn’t the most important element anymore. That’s why we wrote a concept album about the love for music in general. It is our “Sonic Child”, and we hope you’ll cherish it as much as we do.
